Thank you for this, I look forward to watching all the videos on this topic. It is a rich full-featured synth, and you provide the keys to the kingdom. Nice.
Thanks ! But you know I just had to reply with a relevant Sun Tzu quote: "The general who wins the battle makes many calculations in his temple before the battle is fought."
I've had a really hard time to actually use the FM knob yet because it just always feels so destructive but some of the sounds you made sound dooope. Gonna play around with that when I get home. Thanks for the inspiration!
Twiglet has been a good buoy so i've rewarded him with one but i'm sure he won't mind me using it occasionally - really appreciate the ' tutes' so should be up and running in 2 shakes of a lambs tail. This thing is dope on a rope and hotter than a fire in a tumble dryer....
That's excellent news. Mr Twiglet's paws may have trouble with the small buttons but a connected MIDI controller is always useful or perhaps a nose upon the randomizer?
Hi, I just got this in the mail. The manual is for eagle-eyed people only. The one I got online is easier to read but it does not explain how to access the patterns, and how they are organized and stored. I'm hoping that you can shed light on this. I'd like to be able to save patterns to specific locations and recall them at will.
Hey Richard, do you know if there's a way to make the LFO Reset option work in keyboard mode? Just started using DB01 with external sequencers, but it seem to work only with the internal one : /
No way that I know of. A shame since then you'd have a useful envelope. A workaround is to put sync on to about 8 and then to match your playing to the sync rate. Changing the phase can also help. And it can sometimes be interesting to have two "envelope" shapes - one when it hits at the start of the sync rate and then again part-way through.
Hope you can help - i've powered up for the first time but the display briefly flashes up BB1 then reverts to a 0 and i can't seem to access the config menu ? Any thoughts please ? Can't get the option to factory reset and the sequencer - first led is not pulsing - clearly because the bpm is zero i would assume ? Laters - pressed shift and config used select to get to fact rst pushed select twice - counts down from 5-0 then pressed select again and bingo it's working ! Think it'll take a bit of getting used to but i mainly want it for my lion impression tutorials - i'm going to do a roaring trade ....
Sorry to hear this :( Usually a zero in the display means it is waiting for an external clock, but nothing is being input. Yet even in this state it is usually possible to get to the config menu with shift+config . Did you buy this one new? Are you sure the power is good and the supply is correct? If you can't get to the config menu then there's almost nothing available to do. The only thing I can think of would be to try a firmware upgrade. Please let me know how you get on.
@@RichardDeHove Hi Richard - yes i got round it by getting in to config mode and did a factory reset so all's good now.I bought it as a B stock item so got a good price. The only downside i can see at the moment is the lack of headphone output but i've got a headphone amp so i can use it - it's the only piece of kit i have without one ? Nice synth though !
Another amazing video. Very appreciated! I realized I am not smart enough. I am reading the manual but would not have discovered what you are showing many times. May I ask you something? Is there a way for this and the Lxr 02 to play in subdivisions of Tempo of that of the incoming Clock ? Say I have an Ableton project in 160 bpm and want to play the Db 01 in 80 bpm so I can program a more sustained sound in relation to the Project is there a way of getting them synced but "Ableton 160bpm and Db 01 80bpm?"
Thanks SD. In answer to your tempo question the easiest hardware option I can think of would be to use the clock in rather than MIDI. There are various Eurorack modules that convert MIDI-to-clock and then give you a choice of clock rates. You'd then use that clock speed to run the DB-01. Or if you're running the DAW as the master then perhaps this free plugin might be good: www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/clocker.html
@@RichardDeHove wow! Don’t have the time to test it before the weekend but this ableton plug-in looks amazingly handy! Exactly what (I think) I need! . Do you have a way that I can send a few dineros as a thank you for the help? Cheers and thank you !
Hey Richard, need to ho through all yiur db videos again, they are great. Quick question, I'm using an external clock as my master is there a way to send a reset signal to the db sequencer?
The DB-01 picks up external resets very well. I use a little ERM MIDI Clock and that has a reset/restart which resyncs the DB-01 if needed. btw I've been thinking maybe I need to do a 2023/4 version of this getting started video. What do you think?
@@RichardDeHove a 23/24 version would be great to see!! Unfortunately I'm not running any midi, my main clock soure is the erica synths drum sequencer which is going clocknout to a buffered multi so I can spread the 1/8 clock source around my rack, I have trigger 16 on the drum sequencer going to another mult that spreads the reset signal .... with this setup, not sure how I both dbs to follow a reset
@@gracecore Ah yes I see your issue. Hmmm. The way I sync up Euro and MIDI is to run everything from a master MIDI clock and to have a MIDI-to-clock converter in the rack, that way anything that needed a reset would get it from the MIDI restart.
@@RichardDeHove Hi Richard, need your help again, my external clocking is not working, so for now I just want to synch the two DB01 together, I want one as a master to control the star and stop of the other sequencer, Im running a midi cable out to midi in and have midi clock enabled on both units however the second DB is not starting at all when i hit play on the first one...any thoughts?
Thanks for this! One quick question, when going straight to headphones from the synth, is it only mono or is there a setting for stereo through headphones?
The dedicated filter envelope only changes the relative time. For better envelope control use the LFO. Have reset ON so that each note triggers a new envelope. For the longest envelope have sync OFF. Then change the LFO shape to vary the envelope.
Had to reset the Baseline DB-01 as it was not working but it is fine now. I am a complete novice and have the baseline DB-01 , Roland tr-8s and the Korg minilogue xd . Id like to set them all up together but i need some advice if anyone has any?
Hi PS. I think your first job would be to decide what's going to be the master. My guess is that the 8s would provide the master clock for the DB-01 and Korg. Possibly MIDI out to the Korg and clock out to the DB-01; or maybe MIDI through from the Korg to MIDI in on the DB-01 (not sure of the Korg's options though).
@@RichardDeHove You're a star, thank you for your reply. I have something to go on while trying things out, watching various tutorials. Really appreciate your help. Philip.
Edit: This was a really good question so I decided to expand on the info below and make a video actually showing it: ua-cam.com/video/TQ34sw9lNu8/v-deo.html ... you could press and hold a step and use the select knob to increase the gate length to 100. Gives a longer note but obviously isn't actually tied. You could also fake it by turning the envelopes up, the filter down, and give a single step a high filter modulation amount so that it has a long decay but everything else will sound short. You can also give the impression of long and short notes by using the LFO with sync on and reset off, the LFO filter amount high and the filter itself low. Finally, a run of notes with gate 100 in the arp also gives a good tie effect. Maybe one more DB-01 video about "extra things" is needed :)
I can't even figure out there the pattern banks are. Even Roland manuals explain how patterns are organized, where they are stored and how to access them.
