In 2004 all new comers to the EU joined with a single treaty. That meant all would join or noneone would join. Accession Treaties require unanimous support. Greece said that they couldn't support the treaty unless Cyprus gets a green light, despite the division. Nobody believed that there would be a war in the future in Europe back then so they gave their blessings.

as long as it is part of the deal and will be watched and guaranteed by third parties which was the case, there is no problem with it. If you understood everything carefully, you should admit the fact that both before the start of the conflict and during the conflict, at every step, Greek either started the fight, took advantage of the negotiations, kept breaking the deals and committed crimes against civilians during their retreat. Through out the conflict, third parties like UK were also consistent with their unfair approach. Turkish concern about same things happening again was completely justified. Instead of believing the same parties which kept failing at being honest, a gradual withdrawal was necessary. Watching over the situation and making sure things are returning to normal. The leader who tried to stick to the agreement was removed with a coup. Even today the same intentions are clearly visible. Extreme nationalism became the only ideology on the island. On the other hand, Turkish demand on economic zone conflict is that it should be established according to international law. The Greek approach to Aegean sea is pretty much the same as how China handles the south China sea. The partition should be based on mainland coastlines first, then the islands and their surrounding waters should be carved out. Normally when it is not in conflict with something else, 12 miles is the standard however since here it is in conflict with Turkish zone and it also creates international conflict by turning the aegean sea into another straight completely controlled by Greece. When you increase the coastal waters from 6 to 12 miles the map looks truly fked up. One could violate Greek borders by just swimming a little too far from the beach on the Turkish side. Claiming one third of the east Mediterranean arguing that a tiny island swimming distance from Turkish coast gives Greece the right to do so. Imagine Britain claiming everything in between the Falklands and British coast, it would be retarded and hilarious right? Greece is trying to do pretty much something like that. EU not agreeing with it or Greece claiming X or Y doesn't matter. The LAW matters. We can see the same situation today with Israel. ICJ's authority is completely ignored by the same powers who find Turkey in fault in all these matters. They turn a blind eye to a genocide and they support the whole thing, completely ignoring the international laws. So all those arguments and support for Greece is just based on interests, not on law, fair assessment or something like that. Just pure bs. All they care is that if there is resources in the Mediterranean, they should get it. Shell, BP, Exxon.. all coming in like flies.. Who the fk would expect USA or EU to be fair really? Who gets surprised by seeing them just talk pure bs and support ridiculous Greek claims?? The most dangerous part of it all is that Greece is putting itself in great danger by creating an enemy which it can't win against. Instead of working together, nonstop provoking, trying to bully, seeking confrontation just makes life much more expensive, uncomfortable, unsafe and delays the development Greece needs badly. Turns the country into an American military base, capitulating to USA and EU, billions going to weapons... it is a true mess. After all nothing is achieved because looking at Turkish arms industry, there is no short or mid term possibility for Greece to catch up. Turkey has no intention of invading Greece or its islands.. Obeying the international laws and making fair treaties would be enough for a good relation between these nations and for that west has to stop pretending to be fair and actually be fair.

@@antoniosdimoulas3566 for someone who claims the mediterranean as greek and forever greek since ancient greece, it is pretty dumb to bs about turks dreaming about ottoman. In a single comment you made it clear that everything i said is right. You people are extremely nationalistic and you think the entire place belongs to you or something. For turks you are just an annoying neighbor, barking too much, taking power from allies standing behind you. Do you realize how similar your position as a nation to that of israel? Brits made it possible for them and Russians made it possible for you. EU and USA stand behind both of you. Your purpose is to act as a buffer between middle east and europe, be a good puppy and do as you are told. They don't care about you but they need tools like you. You are just the part of this carrot and stick game. If americans want to put pressure on turkey, all of a sudden your bs claims are back on the table. As soon as they get along, nobody cares about your claims again. Same happens with pkk. If they are getting along, nobody cares, but if turks are not behaving as americans want, all of a sudden pkk and kurds are back on the table. If countries in the region were being good neighbors and cooperating, all of them fkers would have to kiss our ass. But instead you are dreaming about greater greece, trying to claim the entire mediterranean, despite the massacres and clear goal of ethnic cleansing on cyprus, claiming that turks are at fault. Saying no to annan plan to unite the island because you still want enosis. You are afraid and creating this whole bs with your maximalist approach. Remember, without your fake allies, you have no chance of making such unfair claims, and you know that they are not reliable. You have been there done that and let's hope you learned your lesson. In 2020s with greece being a nato and eu member turkey has 0 intention of fking around with greece. They got their hands full on the other end of the land. Syria, iraq, iran etc.. however you love to support even terrorists, as long as they are fighting turkey. How the fk are you 24/7 fking with your neighbor and accusing them of doing so? When did turkey support, host and finance a terrorist organisation targetting greece? You are just very very dumb and you are just being used, and abused. Yet still you are dreaming about constantinopol. It is so funny that greeks don't like it being called istanbul, because it is very dumb that they don't know that istanbul is what some greek in anatolia was calling it. Turks came to anatolia and picked the word istanbul from the locals so it is pretty much what your ancestors called it in that region. Please pull your heads out of your butts and try to be fair, respect the international laws and work together. Do not let anyone step over you and do not attempt to do so either. If ww3 kicks off, do not see it as your opportunity to conquer your neighbor and regret it again.

6:25 This statement about the reason why Greek Cypriots rejected the Annan plan, shows complete lack of understanding the issue and worse. It wouold have taken less than 5 minutes of research to uncover a few impartial resources on the web that state the very valid concerns which are:
    - The plan denied refugees the right to recover the property taken from them by force after the turkish invasion
    - The plan did not include a settlement regarding the repatriation of Turkish settlers living on Greek Cypriot owned land, a war crime by turkey that is the equivalent of ethnic cleansing, as turkey's plan is to change the demographics of the island by bringing illegal settlers from mainland turkey
    - The Anan plan was in clear violation of EU acquis & international law by placing a permanent restriction on Greek Cypriots' rights for freedom of movement and establishment, in their own country no less.
    - The Annan plan also perpetuated the presence of the turkish occupying troops allowing them to remain on the island indefinitely and exonerated turkey from any war crimes it committed in Cyprus, required Cypriots to pay for the cost of the turkish invasion (including compensation for property loss),
    - But worse of all, the plan would have made Greek Cypriots (78% of the population) a minority in ALL 3 branches of their country’s government and would have resulted in increasing friction and destabilization, exactly what happened in 1963, only 3 years after the original constitution was forced upon the Cypriot people who did not have a chance to vote for it or even have any input

12:55 Thank you for explicitly mentioning the demographic elephant in the room: The settlers. In the occupied zone, the settler population is currently believed to outnumber the locals. This is quite significant for an EU member state. I think the only somewhat comparable situation elsewhere in the EU would be the Russian settler population residing in Latvia and Estonia. Under EU pressure, these settler populations are gradually disappearing as their descendants either acquire citizenship or leave.
To be clear: The Turkish settlers and their children are NOT Cypriots! They are ineligible for Cypriot citizenship (and hence EU citizenship), because their presence on the island is a violation of the Geneva Convention. Only the pre-invasion population and their direct descendants are eligible for Cypriot (and EU) citizenship. The rest are foreigners.
Having a fictional citizenship in the puppet state created by Turkey is completely null & void. Neither the UN nor the EU recognizes such fake citizenships. Anyone wishing to obtain citizenship in Cyprus will need to apply in the normal way, like in any other country.

The collective West has no idea what happened to the Turks in Cyprus and you obviously don't know either.
It's called "Peace Operation in Cyprus" Here 👇👇
On July 20, 1974, Ecevit announced the start of the operation, which he said would "have a great contribution to mankind and peace."
The Turkish operation prevented the "annexation" of Cyprus and provided protection to Turkish Cypriots who had suffered for years at the hands of the radical Greek Cypriots.
Turkish paratroopers were deployed at various points of the Island, while fighter jets flew low over the land. Following the UN Security Council's (UNSC) call, Turkey stopped its operation and agreed on a ceasefire with Greece.
Nikos Sampson stepped down as president at the end of the fighting, with a total of 57 Turkish soldiers being martyred and another 184 wounded at the end of the three-day campaign. The junta government of Greece collapsed following the peace operation."

There are totally two different nations in Cyprus. Turkish Cypriots who are Muslims and have it's language (Turkish) and traditions. On the other hand, there is Greek Cypriots who are Orthodox and Greek spoken with their traditions.
There is nothing common between these two nations, Other than living on the same island as North Turkish and South Greeks.
The unification of Cyprus is a Greek ongoing ENOSIS dream. Annexing the island with Greece. There is no room in this plan for Turkish Cypriots even if they have none of the Turkish Cypriots will leave under the greek flag. Therefore Unification of Cyprus is only a dream for the Greeks and the European countries who are using Cyprus as their far east front.

In my view, I think the unification of Cyprus at this point is near to impossible to achieve as there are too many differences not only in terms of politics and ideology but also major differences in demographics, culture, religion and language. This is not like the scenario with the division of East-West Germany or even North-South Korea for example in which at least both sides have populations which are similar in terms of language, culture and religion and that they have hopes that they will reunite one day. And with the scenario of Cyprus has too much irreconcilable differences and adding to the extreme differences in culture and language, I’m sorry to say but I think they should remain separated with Northern Cyprus being recognised as a distinct sovereign country. The only thing left is that whether they would have a peaceful route in which they would negotiate for a deal that would have both Cyprus and Northern Cyprus either have a joint deal between two countries or they could join the EU and have a soft border like what it’s like with the Schengen areas of EU in which people within the area would travel and access freely in between territories while not infringing and interfering each other’s right to exist as sovereign states or a hard border which could be catastrophic.

So where does the "right to exist as a sovereign state" come from? The truth is that the Turks have no such right on the land they stole from us, which is why the pseudo state they declared on our territory is legally invalid according to the UN and can never be recognized.

You failed to mention that Greek Cypriots are the 82% of the population, and also the native people of the island who have inhabited the whole Cyprus for 1000s of years. The Turkish Cypriots are a small minority of 18% which was created in our island during Ottoman rule (Ottomans conquered Cyprus centuries after they conquered the Balkans) and was never the majority in any part of Cyprus, until the 1974 Turkish invasion and ethnic cleansing. The solution is for the liberation of Cyprus from foreign occupation, and the Turkish Cypriot minority can be equal Cypriot and EU citizens with full minority rights. So called "solutions" which essentially legalize the stealing of our lands by the Turks and on top of that equate the 82% native population with the 18% of Turks, mostly Anatolian Settlers by now, will obviously be rejected by the native Cypriot people, since such "solutions" do not solve our problem, which is the stealing of our lands by the Turks.
Why don't the AngloAmericans propose such "solutions" for Ukraine? Give to the Russian minority (also 18%) the 30% of Ukraine as their own federal state, and offer to them 50% power share. At least the Russians are actually the majority in most Eastern regions of Ukraine, unlike the Turks who were never the majority in the north part of Cyprus until the ethnic cleansing of 1974.

In the first 5 minutes of the video, the mass rape and genocide of Turks by Greeks on the island is not mentioned, and it is shown as if Turkey has occupied the island with a “conquest” mentality. First of all, let’s state that Turkey is a guarantor state that guarantees the independence of the Republic of Cyprus as a result of the London and Zurich agreements. In 1974, Nikos Sampson, who aimed and intended to unite with Greece and was also a genocidal maniac, directly disrupted the constitutional order by overthrowing Makarios with the support of the Greek junta government and gave legitimacy to the guarantor states to intervene in the island. In the video, it is mentioned as if Turkey’s excuse for occupying the island was the result of this coup, but it is a humanitarian necessity to intervene in the island due to what could happen if Nikos Sampson, who is referred to as a Turkish butcher, had taken control of the island. Let’s also address another mistake mentioned in the video: today, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is an independent state and there is no Turkish occupation on the island. The Blue Homeland doctrine, which is also a cult, was mentioned with a narrative that gives the impression that “Expansionist Turks are thinking of conquering the whole world starting with your faith,” but let’s state that this doctrine is a legitimate defense against Greece’s unilateral occupation of the Aegean islands not mentioned in the Lausanne Treaty and its arming in the Aegean for years, which is contrary to the disarmament of the islands mentioned and not mentioned in Lausanne. In this context, the Blue Homeland is actually a state project, not a government project. This thesis was developed against the fact that the Turks are treated as if they have no 1577 km land border in the Mediterranean with the Greece-Israel alliance
It is true that there is a paranoia of invasion against Turks in the Western world. The reason for this paranoia is undoubtedly due to the fact that the Ottoman Empire ruled over the Western world for years and the wars that Europe lost against the Ottoman Empire. However, Turkey is no longer a world power like the Ottoman Empire or in a helpless state like it was in 1919. In this context, Turkey does not have a desire to completely take over Cyprus, nor can it leave the Turks on the island to the initiative of the Greeks and the Western world.
    Yurtta sulh cihanda sulh.

    • @jonchrys
      @jonchrys 6 місяців тому

Quite a bit of what you say is correct but you have put your own spin on it.
Yes the invasion was within it's guarantor rights to reinstate the constitution not to remain and bring over 100k settlers to occupy the land and properties of others ( a war crime by the way)
The coup was by the Junta ( a dictatorship) who attempted to assassinate President Makarios then fell following the invasion and the reinstated president Makarios was at the time a very vocal non union with Greece supporter hence why the dictators tried to get rid of him.
The inter communal troubles before 1974 were by both sides and both sides look back now in shame and I believe have learnt from these mistakes. Lets also not forget that a lot of these atrocities were committed by the minority the majority looked on in horror many from both sides can tell you how Greeks saved Turks and Turks saved Greeks from the mobs.
You say the TRNC is not an occupying entity, if you really believe that you should watch some demonstration in the north by genuine Turkish Cypriots who call Turkey an occupier . (if you ask i will give you the links and await your comments on them as i would be interested to hear them)
Turkey has done nothing for the Turkish Cypriots ( again if you want to hear the truth i can send you links not from outsiders but from Turks themselves) example did you know they are entitled to free health care in the south many have even been sent abroad for treatments not available in the south paid by the south .
As for the treaties read them properly first of all. Plus in some areas maybe there has been some military build up but that's due the casus belli and the 150k strong Turkish Aegean Army on the coast and the threats.
Can you give me the date Greece’s unilateral occupation of the Aegean islands? I cannot find it anywhere in the history books all I could find was ancient greek sites on them and their return to the rightful owners after the Ottoman empire fell.( some sarcasm there but i think it's deserved)
The one thing we can agree on is that the Turkish Cypriots need a solution that gives them some added security ( not that they actually need it but to put their minds at rest so we can go forward )
As for blue homeland I get why you maybe be upset but geography is geography only mother earth can change that.
The law regarding territorial waters is clear 12nm everyone is bound by that.
The issue re EEZ is more complicated and neither of us are qualified on that issue simply stating coastline length is irrelevant. I was going to write a lengthy explanation but its too complicated but basically can Turkey be trusted that agreeing anything with it will not cause it to create a president in the future bearing in mind that Turkish logic does not conform to most peoples logic ( not intended as insult )
as for paranoia of invasion against Turks Is there a neighbour you have genuine friendly relations with?
As for Greece between the people there is a love affair it's the politicians who have the issues.
The one thing I ask of you is to stop portraying Turkish and Greek Cypriots as enemies we have more in common than you could ever imagine only a genuine Cypriot can explain that.

The Turks from Steppes of Mongolia expelled the Greeks( the native inhabitants) from the Northern part of Cyprus after 5000 years of continuous presence on the island. As they also did in Anatolia and Armenia. The planning of occupation of the island by the Turks was done by Henry Kissinger.

Yeah give all the Balkans to Greece as well, since the Slavs came there shortly before the Turks came to Anatolia. While at it remove all the Germanic people from the British Isles as well, since they invaded shortly before the Turks came to Anatolia. Give France back to the Celtic people, since the Germanic Franks arrived there shortly before the Turks came to Anatolia.
Turks arrived in Anatolia in 1071. Almost all of Europe was shaped between the 6th and 11th century. If we go by Greeks living somewhere before the Turks get Northern India too. Since you know, Alexander was there...
Living for centuries somewhere is not enough for some reason. Such a backwards nationalistic logic...
