The comments here are really dissapointing, as a Cypriot, I am super happy this video was made so early! Cyprus has really blended well into the European Community and we are proud to be a member! Thank you so much for this video, have been a fan for ages, it was great to see our little island so well represented!! 🇨🇾🇪🇺
As a Cypriot, I love the EU. Maybe the older generation don’t share the same enthusiasm but the EU has given me the opportunity to expand my horizons and enjoy a higher standard of living. The EU has supported my life in many ways that Cypriots as a whole might not appreciate but I’m proud to call myself European.
Hi! Italian here for you. I am interested in foreign politics, especially EU politics, and something I have always wanted to know is how it is the situation in Cyprus. Like, you know, about the division. Do yo know people from Northern Cyprus? And how are they living the situation? Sorry if I was rude, I just wanted to learn things politicians do not like to talk about. Sending love from Italy🇮🇹❤️🇨🇾
@@micheleletizia9533 mate the living situation in Cyprus is better than in Italy I know many Italians that moved to Cyprus only for work. And the border with north Cyprus is open, in 2023 a record number of Greek Cypriots crossed to the north
As a Cypriot and an economist, the EU has helped the island massively. However, in my opinion, joining the eurozone was a mistake as we couldn’t devalue our currency in 2013, which led to extremely tough economic times here in Cyprus.
I'm not so sure about it being a mistake, devaluing a currency can help at times, but I always feel it's a cheap way to paper over the cracks in the economy, which is usually where major economic reforms are needed. Devaluing the currency can work in the short term, but it rarely solves the underline issue in the economy, especially when it comes to being competitive on the world stage, which reforms are the better option. But to be fair, most will always take the easy option out, which devaluing a currency is easier to do, reforms, especially big reforms are usually not popular with the people of the country but a lot of the times are needed if a country wants to stay competitive at the higher end of living standards.
As one of the many EU Citizens (German in this case) who moved to Cyprus permanently, it is absolutely great that Cyprus is part of the EU. A very developed economy that feels like any other cultural hot spot within the EU. But of course with its distinct Mediterranean & Middle Eastern flair and heritage. I think it is a great win for the EU, and also one of the most beautiful, and unique places due to its location, and culture, when it comes to EU members. Also, as pointed out, a very important strategic location and save haven within the whole region that projects EU influence, and values. That Cyprus is no part of the Schengen Area is a bit of an annoyance on a daily basis when it comes to traveling, or receiving packages. I think this economy would benefit greatly from joining it, so I hope that there will be a way to join, on the sooner side. Germany had its own challenges with the reunification, it will not be easy and a big task. And take decades. Economically, and culturally, since both parts also have developed that differently - like with Western and Eastern Germany. But this also shows, it can be done, eventually. Glad to be here, while still in the EU :-) PS: And well, the part about many very wealthy Russians, or their relatives & offspring whose source of wealth seems "a bit dubious" ... does not need any elaborated investigation. Just a visit to Limassol - but to be honest, there are some parts within the EU, or next to it, that give you that impression.
Or maybe we can be done with it quicker if we (as a union that we keep calling ourselves), finally do what should have been done decades ago and cleanse the island nation of the Islamofascist regime to the north? Led by Turkey, who doesn't even recognize the RoC, badmouths and scoffs us (the EU) daily and threatens 2 of our fellow EU members with war? I think diplomacy ain't gonna work on this one, chief! Diplomacy is meant for democracries with a Western mindset. It's not feasible with dictatorships that mainly reside in the East, hate the West with a passion and have made sure to brainwash the majority of their people against us.
Thank you for covering our little corner of the world. I wish that the EU would take a more active role in the reunification process. The EU was established as, and still effectively is, an ongoing Peace project. In that sense there are a lot of lessons and experiences that can be put into practice here. Peace ☮️
I'm sure they will at some point, but over the last decade, they've had so much on their plate, and EU powers are limited in some areas, especially on forign policy matters, which is what's needed to resolve the situation with Turkey.
@@paul1979uk2000oh no, they did take an active process. Just in a negative way. They accepted the south Cypriot government into the EU despite the southern one rejecting the plan that was agreed by US, EU, Turkey and UN
If you could, we in Ireland do not use GDP or GDP per capita when studying the health of our economy. Instead, we use adjusted gross national income (GNI), which puts us just over with Finland, but below several others. There are a lot of multinationals here for such a small nation throwing off our stats here. So internally we always disregard GDP in almost all things relating to economics. Instead putting an asterisk by the adjusted value, stating later it's GNI in subtext.
@@EUMadeSimple It would be better and fairer to others when compared to the rest of the EU. Officially, we have been using adjusted gross national income instead of GDP for close to 10 years. We are absolutely not as productive as our GDP figures say and the government agrees. But also please note that Multinationals hire a massive 12% of some of our most highly paid working population. And there are conditions where they must reinvest a portion of their profits on R&D in the country. It's not the caymen islands. So we are a tax haven, and many wright us off as such but we come with many caveats. Making us less competitive with other EU countries such as Malta and Hungary. Yet multinationals are still set up here because they get both tax cuts and crucially an English-speaking, 3rd level educated people.
@@razvanciobotaru3089 With European ascension, Moldova would not need to unite with Romania as there would be free movement and trade between both states as if they are one. Here in Ireland, though N. Ireland is not in the EU anymore we have a caveat making it partially still in, we have total rights of free movement, healthcare, voting rights, and free trade and on top of it all, there is not even a single border checkpoint or even a road sign or a line on the road saying which country you are in. It feels like one country again for the last 24 years except they don't use euros. But who uses cash anyway? It's pretty great, and there is no big will anymore down south to officially reunite as they would be a net expense for us if we did. Let the UK pay the bills while we enjoy an essentially united Island. I assume Romanians will think the same if Moldova joins the union. We are all in it together after all, so there may be a border, but it would be all in name only.
I've never really put much stock in GDP per capita numbers, it doesn't really tell us much about the quality of living in countries, and like you said, there are a lot of multinationals companies in Ireland for the size of the population that distorts the GDP per capita numbers. The irony being, the more billionaires and millionaires there are in a country, the more it can distort the numbers, the US is a prime example of that, which clearly the living standards are not living up to what the GDP per capita numbers suggest. Not sure what the best measures is to use, but we clearly need a better option that's more accurate for the living standards in a country, especially from the bottom up.
Having been visiting Cyprus since 2001 I can see how much things have changed. Covid ravaged especially Nicosia, been there few weeks ago and it's worse that it was during pandemic. But all in all I'm really glad that Cyprus is in the EU and I think it stabilized the region, invited investment (especially in real estate) and I hope EU will help with reunification at some point. I visit this beautiful part of Europe almost every year and love Cypriot-Greeks.

Fun fact for myth nerds: its where it takes place the story of Galatea aka the first confirmed waifu. And another one for history nerds: the island of Cyprus was home to the last Crusader State (apart from Rhodes)
I'm surprised this video doesn't mention the elephant in the room: Demographic engineering orchestrated by Turkey. The settler population in the occupied zone is currently believed to outnumber the non-settler population. These settlers and their children are ineligible for Cypriot citizenship (and hence EU citizenship). Only the direct descendants of the pre-occupation population have an automatic right to Cypriot citizenship and voting rights. Cyprus is unlikely to simply grant citizenship to people who arrived by forceas settlers without the permission of the government. These settlers and their descendants will likely end up in a legal "grey-zone", much like the Russian settler populations in Estonia and Latvia: as permanent residents with no prospect of ever being allowed to vote or getting a passport.
@@admiralspyro9722 That was what Kofi Annan tried but failed to implement. But who knows, perhaps other EU countries will volunteer to offer permanent residency to the settlers as a compromise solution? They make up a substantial share of the population of the island, but for most other EU countries, absorbing them would not be a problem.

The ignorance in the comments is crazy but this is UA-cam after all. Cyprus has always been known as an island that is European in culture and Middle Eastern in its temperament. The reality is that it’s defined by its majority Greek population and geographical location. Cyprus influenced European history and also early Christian history. It was the first island to convert to Christianity. 1:20 Cyprus has been predominately Greek for over 3,000 years. Turkey - knowing Cyprus was Greek, killed ten’s of thousands of Greeks - most civilians and priests in the 19th century and transported thousands of Muslims to change the island’s demographic character. The U.K. - knowing Turkey wanted Cyprus, used the Turkish Cypriots to fight the Greek Cypriots when they wanted Enosis with Greece. The Turkish Cypriots before the Brits never fought with against their Greek Cypriot neighbours. The irony is that the U.K. did promise Cyprus to Greece before the end of the Second World War. 3:25 indeed - Turkey threatened its own Turkish Cypriots to leave the government. The coup in Greece was funded by the CIA and knew the Turkish army would invade. Turkey did not invade Cyprus to save the Turkish Cypriots. Truth? Turkey said that even if Turkish Cypriots didn’t exist, they wouldn’t let Cyprus unite with Greece. Every country in the world - apart from Turkey - recognises the Republic of Cyprus as the only legitimate state in Cyprus. Turkey is a dictatorship. All Turkish Cypriots have access to ROC citizenship cards. More Turkish Cypriots have left Cyprus after Cyprus’ invasion than before it. Cyprus being in the EU has been a massive asset to its citizens.
I think Cyprus should be part of Greece (hoping that Türkiye will one day become a less authoritarian country and can therefore also become an EU member)
Even if Turkey were to improve, it'd not mean Cyprus joining Greece, as neither the people nor any political party within Greek Cypriot politics support such a move, & a reunited Cyprus would have its Turkish Cypriot population back, who would vehemently oppose such a thing, not to mention that a reunification deal would likely come with a "neither partition nor annexation" clause.
@@atruv2089 Basically, if this intent were to hypothetically be pursued, everything would depend on how the Turkish Cypriot population might react. Obviously in my comment there was what in my opinion would be more fair to happen, implicitly contextualized in a peaceful scenario. I know that the reality can be very different
Initially Greek Cypriot were against independence and pro- union. But now we have become accustomed to independence and we don't feel like it would be economically or administratively efficient for the politicians in Athens to control our business. We barely trust our own Cypriot politicians..

i wouldn't label Cyprus as an "Asian country" but as a Mediterranean country. The Mediterranean is the sea between 3 continents, so its islands should be called Mediterranean and we should not use labels such as Asian, European, African etc. I hope Cyprus will be free in the future since this island-state suffered a lot by Empires and its neighbors because of its significant geostrategic location.

As a Cypriot, I am calling the EU to encourage both sides to find a solution. I want them to be impartial because we know that the majority of the EU is christian countries. They must spend more time with both sides and needs to build a bridge between the two communities. Unfortunately because of the strategic location of Cyprus seems like for no ones benefit to find a solution.

Wait, isn't territorial disputes supposed to exclude any state from candidacy? Is this only the case where it is a comfortable excuse, like with Georgia and Ukraine?
Not really, Ukraine Moldova, and Georgia have territorial disputes and are all EU candidates...We also have the Kosovo situation. My country Portugal also has territorial disputes with Spain and both joined the union, the same happens with other countries that are already in the EU
Territorial disputes exclude a country from joining NATO, as is the case with Ukraine and Georgia, that's what you might be remembering. Cyprus is also not a NATO member.
Since it was conquered by Alexander the Great in 333 BC, Cyprus has been bound to Europe. It was part of the Hellenic state, the Roman empire, the Byzantine empire, then ruled by Frankish dinasties, then part of the Republic of Venice and finally it was conquered by the Ottomans in 1571. That's where you picked up...skipping only 1904 years of history
To reunify the island, one solution could be to resume negotiations for accession to the EU with Turkey. Essentially, if Turkey liberates the island, negotiations can start over again.
Belgium and the Republic of Cyprus are two very similar countries. Both of them are fake countries with no historical basis. Britain established both as outposts against the major regional countries.
The obvious solution is, to wait for Erdogan to retire, or be voted out, and then start to draw closer both Turkey and northern Cyprus. Many Turkish people would like to be EU members and the economic benefits, I dont think I need to iterate on that.

about the Netherlands i don't know. About Liberia, i guess it has to do with the Cypriot merchant fleet. Both Cyprus and Greece has vast merchant fleets and as we know some ship-owners prefer to use foreign flags because of the lower taxation in countries like Liberia. THE EU IS THE REAL REASON WHY TODAY CYPRUS IS DIVEDED. TAKING GREEK CYPRIOTS IN THE SOUTH INTO EU AND NOT TURKISH CYPRIOTS IN THE NORTH. IF THE EU CAN SEE THE WAY TAKING TURKISH CYPRIOT INTO THE EU AS EQUAL TO GREEK CYPRIOTS THEN I THINK CYPRUS CAN BE UNITED, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE DIVEDED FOREVER BY TRNC BEING RECOGNISED BY UN
@@giuseppearleo6324 it has nothing to do with money, the majority of the Greek Cypriots wanted and want the unification of Greece and Cyprus, with the English promising to give us the Grand Island if we had joined their side in the First World War, but they didn't kept their promise, something that over the years led to the creation of EOKA an organization who wanted the liberation of Cyprus from the English empire and the unification of the Grand Island with Greece, with the only one opposing them (beside the English occupators) being the communist part and the turkish minority of around 20.000 people
@@taotao19741 you said well, "wanted". It's 2023 now, not 1974. Ask Greek Cypriots what they want now. I highly doubt they want to join a poorer economy and a disorganized state. They just aim to take back northern Cyprus.
Turks and Greeks cannot live together on the island. If you read the history of the island, there were very bloody conflicts between the two groups. Instead of forcing this, why don't we accept two separate states within two communities in a civilized way? 1/3 of the island belongs to the Turks and 2/3 belongs to the Greeks. Keeping it like this is the best way for peace and tranquility. While the Turkish side said yes to the Annan Plan, which was put to vote in 2004, the Greek side rejected it. Despite this, the Greeks were rewarded with unification by the European Union, even though they rejected it. Taking such a crisis candidate into the EU before the crisis is resolved has caused a headache for Europe as a whole and is not a professional decision.
Organizing Annan Plan referendum one week before their accession to the EU was a mistake. Turkish Cypriots voted yes to join the EU, while Greek Cypriot President Papadopoulos urged voters to vote no and said "We'll join the EU even if we vote no". Even though the EU later wanted to lift economic sanctions because Turkish Cypriots voted yes; they couldn't because one of the new members at that time blocked it. Guess which one?
EU destroyed solution in Cyprus by taking Greek Cypriots in EU . Should have waited until solution then take the all Cyprus now it is impossible to find solution .
Cyprus's EU membership is a breach of international law since the founding agreement of the state prohibits Cyprus from joining any international organization of which both Türkiye and Greece are not members
Keep in mind I am not super educated on the topic so this might be both a HOT and *stupid* take. Do the people of Northern Cyprus wish to reunite? It seems fairly democratic and stable to me, so I imagine that if they did it would have happened after all this time. I see that reunification's benefits would be more about geopolitical tensions between Turkey and the rest of NATO. So N. Cyprus might as well get recognized, join the Western institutions and I feel this would make for more stability on the island, as long as both remain independent of Greece and Turkey, respectively.
Turkish Cypriots wish to unite, Turkish people living in the North claiming themselves Cypriots do not. Majority of Turkish Cypriots have fled the country after the invasion, it has become more common to come across a Turkish person rather than a Turkish Cypriot. It's only harder for Cyprus to become one with this many Turkish people living here
How can you even think such a possibility. The north part of Cyprus, is occupied by Turkey since 1974. The majority of all those are still our stolen lands and properties . PLEASE We expect from you people to RESPECT that
As a Cypriot I hate the EU just as much as the local (corrupt) government if not more. We really aren't European in culture. Maybe Mediterranean at best, but we also share a fair amount of Middle Eastern culture. Many EU policies don't account for us since we don't have direct borders with other EU countries, we don't have a large population nor are we culturally similar. All the EU did was destroy our economy. They didn't do anything regarding the Turkish crisis we face for decades. I rather have Russian ivestors in the country that boost the economy than European restrictions and economic crises. The EU has been stripping us away from our national roots (I'm not a nationalist but they have crossed the line) and bombard us with rules and regulations. Cyprus would bebetter off without Europe
I think no one gives a hoot about the Cyprus issue, you see happy Europeans vacationing to turkey promoting Turkey, investing in turkey doing trade deals with turkey, EU funding to Turkey all this wonderful benefits and rewards for occupying northern cyprus and they think that there will be a resolution to the cyprus issue. it's like taking a criminal out of jail and telling him to be a good guy, rewarding the criminal's behavior or a kid stilling candy and not trying to teach the kid that stilling is bad, and then they wonder why Turkey does not do anything. When a kid is bad you have to teach the kid that if he does bad he must be punished and learn a lesson not pett them and move on.
Letting Cyprus in the EU was a mistake in my opinion. As long as they don't actually have control over their territory, they are a "half-state" in a permanent state of conflict. This could become very bad for us.
Cyprus hasn't been in acrive war for 49 years, the Annan plan was a bad deal, that was negotitated without the people's consent. It is absurd to say because a country was a victim of invasion, they shouldn't join the EU. If anything this encourages peace as Turkey can't risk worseing relations with the EU by invading Cyprus.
I really hope for the reunification of the island (under the total control of the Nicosia government), but I think it is impossible for Greek Cypriots to claim the houses of their grandparents who are on the other side of the island. Those homes may simply no longer exist. Probably, when reunification occurs, Cyprus will adopt a Bosnia-Herzegovina model.
By not letting Cyprus in the EU means that you make the entire island-state a hostage of Turkey and its politics.. Turkey is happy with the current status qvo, it is something it wanted since ever.

You are skipping some chronological facts. In 1975 the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus was established following the agreement at UN level that a united and federated state would be established at the end of negotiations. The TRNC was not established in 1974 but in 1983 with strong impetus from within the Turkish Cypriot politics. In fact, Turkey was vehemently against the declaration of TRNC and in the face of this fait accompli that happened during the period when Turkey itself moved from a military rule to democracy, Turkey had to recognise TRNC. You are skipping a whole decade in the story. Yet still love your videos =)
Everyone knows why and how Cyprus is accepted to the union. 😅The most realistic idea is two separate states. Turks and Greeks don't leave together for a half century Greek side in EU, Turkish side with an agreement with Turkey like France- Monaco and the British bases continues to be part of UK. Good morning Europe, you missed the train.
This video is a joke. not to say, based on post-truth presentation of facts. This video fully silences THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT PRIOR TO JOINIING THE EU or better "Admission of Cyprus" into the EU: The UN Plan to re-unify the island under Kofi Annan and the following referendum which was accepted by Turkish Cypriots and rejected by the Greek Cypriots. EU had declared prior to the referandum, that only a unified Cyprus would be admitted. And then: The Greek part was admitted although THEY REJECTED the re-unification. Today the divisioning force of Cyprus is no other actor than Brussels itself.

I'm not in E.U. but i think a confederation might be one the solution if Cyprus citizens wants to be reunited. The northern turkish state and ROC would still exist but as states under a national confederate government. Maybe directorial government would be a good good option so the leader are both from turkish state and ROC just like in switzerland instead on the old system where the president is greek cypriot while the vice is from turkish.
As a Cypriot in his almost mid-thirties, I am hugely disappointed with the EU. First of all one of the primary reason of joining the EU was the threat from Turkey, over the years EU did nothing whatsoever either to sanction Turkey for it's support of pseudo-state, which Turkey staged on the occupied part of the island. Cyprus could have well been a net exporter of the oil and gas to the EU, replacing Russia on this market. Again, EU did nothing to help Cyprus to prosper in this direction, Cyprus oil & gas reserves were discovered more then 10 years ago, and what - nothing! Moreover, the pseudo-turkish state tries to drill and extract oil from Cypriot exclusive economic zone, and we receive no support from EU, where are the sanctions on Turkey? Why more than 30% of our country is still occupied and EU does not even think of extracting political pressure upon Turkey. How comes that Cyprus, being an EU member is less important than Ukraine? International Law does not apply to Cyprus? Euro is another massive problem, everyone who lives in Cyprus will understand me, try to take out a car loan, or a mortgage - it is impossible. Younger generation is completely missing out on economic benefits, that the EU can give them. Cyprus does not control it's own economy, we only listen to orders from EU and the only thing we can do, is to obey. The interests of simple people is completely ignored. Illegal migration is an also major issue, over past 5-6 years the neighborhoods have changed completely, it is not safe any more to walk in the night time, who is responsible for all this? Turkey which is allowing thousands of refugees to sneak into Cyprus and EU which forces us to receive those refugees. Again no sanctions from the EU against Turkey, which is no only occupying more than 30% of our country but is also bombarding us with refugees. And we can't stop this because we are applying the common EU policy to refugees. Last but not least, Cyprus used to have good relations with Russia, a lot of investment & tourism was coming from Russians, now everything is completely cut off, what do we suppose to substitute these money with? Refugees? I don't understand why Cyprus has to suffer economically applying sanctions against Russian tourists and investments, when EU completely ignores the fact THAT CYPRUS IS AS AN EU MEMBER STATE HAS MORE THAN 30% OCCUPIED BY TURKEY. Apply the sanctions against Turkey for God sake! Help please an EU member state to de-occupy it's country. I know that Ukraine is an ally of EU, but Cyprus is IN THE EU FOR 20 YEARS NOW! And we have less rights than Ukraine? OUTRAGEOUS! Sexual education of our kids in elementary school (dimotiko)? What is this shit ? Why do we have to comply with something that was not even a problem in our society? I don't say that lgbtq+ don't have rights, of course they do. But why those rights seem to be more important that the rights of straight people and their kids? Enough is enough #Cyexit

Cyprus is also a developed nation, that has a real per capita income, higher than Spain and now almost that of Italy (And the tax haven argument's don't hold up Eurostat has published that Cyprus has higher average wage than Spain for example) with a good, mostly non-corrupt, functional government with free and fair elections. Many of those other places have serious governance issues. This isn't an EU bias, its a bias towards governments that can do their job.

CORRECTION: Between 1955 and 1974, there were attacks and massacres against the Turkish Cypriot minority by the Greek Cypriot armed forces many times. The Bloody Christmas massacre of December 20, 1963 is one of the most famous examples. As a result of the military coups that took place in Greece and subsequently in Cyprus in 1974, Turkey did military intervention to protect the Turkish Cypriot minority, with the right granted by the 1960 Constitution of Cyprus. Therefore, Turkey did not occupy the island! I love following your videos, but I was very sad to see that you explained historical facts without researching them and distorting them a bit. Please include comparative sources in your videos that support your arguments!
Atrocities happend on both sides. Some would say exacerbated by Turkey. So an invasion of Cyprus was inevitable . At 3:56 it correctly says "swift intervention". The coup happend on 15 July ,the invasion happend on 20 of July, its impossible to plan an invasion in five days( NATO allowed the invasion to happen because it didn't want two NATO members to go to go to war , not a good look) . The invasion was more a geopolitical issue for Turkey because if Cyprus united with Greece it would block Turkey from the Mediterranean. Something that should never happen btw Cyprus should be an independent nation and collaborate with Turkey.
Man just Google massacres in Cyprus and you will find that both sides were brutal towards each other because Forces from turkey and Greece fulled the hate

Glad to be here, while still in the EU :-)
PS: And well, the part about many very wealthy Russians, or their relatives & offspring whose source of wealth seems "a bit dubious" ... does not need any elaborated investigation.

If you could, we in Ireland do not use GDP or GDP per capita when studying the health of our economy. Instead, we use adjusted gross national income (GNI), which puts us just over with Finland, but below several others.
There are a lot of multinationals here for such a small nation throwing off our stats here. So internally we always disregard GDP in almost all things relating to economics. Instead putting an asterisk by the adjusted value, stating later it's GNI in subtext.
I'll look into it, especially when doing Ireland
Do GNI for Luxembourg and Switzerland.

The settlers will most likely get citizenship as part of a unification deal. But I hope not.
@@admiralspyro9722 That was what Kofi Annan tried but failed to implement. But who knows, perhaps other EU countries will volunteer to offer permanent residency to the settlers as a compromise solution?

Why would Cyprus want to join Greece? They have a much better economy and legislation system, and are also wealthier than Greece.

For the 100th time, we dont want to join EU.
10:35 typical rhetoric but western governments have more Russian money than tiny cyprus …. Think Luxembourg and Switzerland
ikr, big countries can mingle with russia all they want but you can't...
Never understood why Cyprus it's not greek territory
One nation two states deal?!?!
It's seems to me like Greece's biggest island.
Stop crying
The Annan plan was disastrous for the Greek-Cypriots. The state would not be able to function.

Cyprus's EU membership is a breach of international law since the founding agreement of the state prohibits Cyprus from joining any international organization of which both Türkiye and Greece are not members

Wrong video mate.
Cyprus is just diet Greece, honestly.
The majority of all those are still our stolen lands and properties

The nest for who wants eu passport:)
Erdogans ottoman aspirations are going to be his downfall! By 2100 at least, Cyprus will be complete!
@@NobodyAnywhere-xi9dz If not in 2100 at least at 3000 it will be. : ) I don't know by that time human civilization may cease to exist so it may be possible to cross Green Line for Greeks Turks or anyone who wishes.
Today the divisioning force of Cyprus is no other actor than Brussels itself.
i dint even know Cyprus was an EU state ...
That's, at the very least, very heretical of you. ESPECIALLY if you are a European citizen!
@@georgedevries3992 I would never have thought that a country with such messy relations with borders could enter the EU... so it newer crossed my mind that they could be part of EU ... because all I know about Cyprus is its location and that they have problems with the border...
Yeah it is in the EU however Cyprus is in Asia.
I wish you good luck.

If Cyprus an Asian country with serious territorial problems can join the EU, why can't Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine and Georgia do the same?

Cyprus is also a developed nation, that has a real per capita income, higher than Spain and now almost that of Italy (And the tax haven argument's don't hold up Eurostat has published that Cyprus has higher average wage than Spain for example) with a good, mostly non-corrupt, functional government with free and fair elections. Many of those other places have serious governance issues. This isn't an EU bias, its a bias towards governments that can do their job.
Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine are all in Europe and will eventually join the European Union.
Moldova has to give up Transnistria and rejoin Romania.
Ukraine has to give up Donbass, Kherson, Zaphorizia, Mykolaiv and Odesa Oblasts.
