    **SO READ THIS TOO**
    After completing my review I started having issues with the ambient LED lighting. It randomly shut off and would become unresponsive. After a full power off (a few times) I finally got the default red back. But on occasion it just randomly goes off again. I reached out to notify HP of this as well.
    The mix of incredible, to defect is unfortunate. This monitor exceeds expectations in so many ways, but finds small ways to let me down while it does.
    From the weak warranty, the factory failed QA defects, and the un-responsive HP Omen division I'm left wondering if it is a 'take your money and run' type of situation. For the amount of money someone invests in to this display, this tool, this statement of enthusiast extremism I believe the consumers deserve more.
    It is a great display, but at this point the price does not compliment the product. It doesn't deserve to cost 1300 USD just yet. This of course is my opinion.

    I had it for about a year, and it worked well for the most part. almost right at a year i started having power issues with it and HP was not very helpful in the sense where i didn't have the receipt (my fault) so i was only awarded a $500 limit to take it in to a HP supported location to have it repaired.

      Yes I think it is worth it for that price. Any sort of flicker that bothers me comes from any panel using some variant of adaptive contrast. It looks like a constant shifting/flicker while it tries to achieve the deepest blacks. This is okay in some regards but in large I'm just that guy that cannot stand it so I cut it off on all my devices that use it.
      Other than adaptive contrast when it's on I have had no issues with the panel(s) in either version.

      The AOC Agon can be had for $400.00 less and it can hang with all the other 21:9 1400p IPS GSync units out there. Definitely on the short list!

    • @Dios67
      @Dios67 7 років тому

      I just RMA'd my AG352UCG as I couldn't get the g-sync to stop flickering. Also, the color "banding" on middle colors like gray was bad and it showed in games. It had light spots in one long vertical/horizontal area that looked like a giant reticle cross-hair across the entire screen. It was also darker on one side than the other (with gray, black looked ok). Mine was manufactured in April 2017 and according to other users should have been fine with the flickering. Others determined it was a video driver issue that Nvidia addressed but I tried multiple ones including beta drivers with no luck. I was running it on a EVGA GTX1080 FTW2 but I also tried a EVGA GTX980 FTW.

    I watch A LOT of tech channels and have never seen yours. I have got to say I really hope your channel grows and succeeds. This was a 10/10 review with great commentary and honest opinions. I didn't even know about the Omen as the bigger tech reviewers I watch have yet to cover it and I'm only just doing my own research on high end 21:9 monitors. Anyway just wanted to give some positive feedback and tell you you earned a sub with this video.

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому +1

      hotshot619 thanks that's good to hear! It can be hard trying to find a balance for what people want to see and what I think they want to see 😊 hopefully the bigger channels can cover what I did not for people. The embargo was up March 12 confirmed by an HP rep, so I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen anything else myself.

    Would you mind commenting on if the monitor has the typical ghosting issues of a VA panel when there is a dark color on a light background.
    For example, does the test on this site testufo.com/#test=ghosting leave a dark trail behind the moving UFO?

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому +2

      That is an excellent test to cite. I'll pin this after I give people a chance to see the other pin.
      Yes someone else had inquired on ghosting, it does exist, but the overdrive (internal response time, not refresh rate) set to max does an excellent job. I checked it on cyan and yellow for you @1440, corona effect is minimal (but not impossible to see) To achieve this it is best to set to fastest for OD, and have refresh to 100hz, I hope this helps.
      Artifacting in gaming, or shadow blur/motion blur can be whooped up on by pairing it with gsync, disable adaptive contrast, set OD to highest, and enjoy. Again great test to cite, and good luck.

    • @Himcor
      @Himcor 7 років тому +1

      Since you have a good video camera you could try to film the monitor doing some of the rests? The one HNLDream mentioned is a common standard for responsiveness but this one will reveal inverse ghosting effects too if the overdrive is exaggerated. testufo.com/#test=chase&background=404040&leading=000000&trailing=00FFFF&distance=32&pps=960&height=180

      I'm not sure how to adjust that for an Xbox - it's an aspect ratio. What the games allow and what the consoles aspect ratio can be set to. I'd recommend checking system settings and seeing if they can be adjusted to match the monitor.

    Hi Eight-six, I am looking to pick up an ultrawide monitor and was originally going to go pick up the LG 34UC80-B for $550, however, I just recently ran across a deal for the Omen 35 @ $629, I was wondering, at almost half off the original pricing, would you recommend this monitor over those available in comparable price ranges? I will not actually be gaming on the monitor much, I am a stock trader so I spend a lot of time charting and using trading software (looking at stagnant screens so I need something with a pleasing color profile). I am currently working from an 2017 iMac with 2 cheap acer monitors (the worst issue with the acers is that the brightness doesnt adjust with that of my imac, so at night time they are too bright even on the "eco" setting, and the colors are not nearly as vivid as the imac's screen itself so it gives your eyes that haze feeling after a long time of staring), I was thinking I would replace the acer's with 1 ultra wide monitor (assuming I'll have nearly the same screen real estate and way better image quality and immersion experience). What do you think of this monitor vs anything else I can buy in the sub-700 range?

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  5 років тому

      For that price the Omen is a top pick. Especially if you're looking for affordable gsync. If you don't need gsync the LG monitors are pretty primo too. I know several people who like the LG ultra wides

    • @masterybydeez
      @masterybydeez 5 років тому

      Thanks for the response! I think I'm going to go with the Omen, I'm using the imac for now but I might pick up a iBuyPower Snowblind desktop later on this year which definitely could take advantage of that gsync. Either way it will be a huge upgrade from what I have now, and something I presume will not need upgrading for several years.

    From what I understand the current G Sync module only supports up to 2 display outputs. 1 via Displayport and 1 HDMI.
    The new PG27UQ will feature 2x Displayport 1.4 and 1x HDMI 2.0 leading me to believe there will be a G Sync v3 out soon.
    Thanks for the review but I'm a little disappointed in this monitor. I guess the wait goes on.

    Awesome Honest Review!
    Currently debating between the HP Omen X35 and the Asus ROG Swift PG348Q.
    I have the HP Omen 27 G-Sync 165Hz Gaming Monitor and I really enjoy it. But the only problem I have with it, is the color accuracy even after color calibrating it. Nonetheless, it is a great monitor for the price I got it for at Walmart during a clearance, so can't complain much ;)

    Good review. You can tell its not IPS by the way it slightly washes out with off center viewing even in the video. Unfortunately input lag has not been professionally tested on this yet. For $1300 and only VA I think there are better options.

    First time i've watched one of your videos, and must say great work! This monitor is currently on sale in Norway for about 1100 USD, but we do pay 25% VAT here so thats less than 900USD excl VAT. seems like a more reasonable price. Or I would even say a good deal for such a monitor

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  6 років тому

      Are Skøien thanks, and yes I think for 900 USD it’s a more reasonable deal. It feels way over priced still especially with so much good out there for much less. TBH it’s really a feeling of paying for GSYNC more than the monitor itself. Any gsync vs freesync feels that way 😕

    Nice review of the monitor, could you comment on the colours vs an IPS panel? deciding between x34 and this monitor

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому +2

      Lewis Dale this panel is very similar to IPS, a lot of my comparisons (and why I kept slipping up) is amva and IPS are pretty close in my book. The ideal thing about IPS is color gamut, and viewing angles. This amva panel does an excellent job giving me what I like about IPS panels like my ud88.
      I mentioned to someone else the adaptive contrast may be a like it or hate it thing. I recommend not using it because I personally feel it screws with beauty of the color

    Hello @eight-Six I'm very interested in this monitor as I've been shopping around for an Ultrawide for quite some time. Obviously my first choices were the Acer x34 and ROG Swift but this one caught my attention because of the super slim bezels and edge to edge display which is very important to me.
    Pricing aside which you recommend this to me or wait for something like X34p? Also would you mind doing some off-screen recording of some games like Diablo3 or Witcher3 for me?

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому +1

      Hey! Yeah I plan on shooting some extra stuff to help answer some other questions people have had. I'll try and get some of that done.
      The 'micro edge' they advertise is really just that to me. A lot of times advertisements make these displays seem 9and appear in pictures) that they flow out like an infinity pool. It has a small border you can see in the video.
      If you mean the general thickness of the panel itself I think its reasonably slim for a curved UW.
      The one people seem to have eyes on is the AOC Agon, seems to be a fan favorite on Reddit. It looks like something I would buy.

    I'm not really understanding why there is HDMI 1.4 on this? HDMI 1.4 doesn't support 3440x1440 at 100hz it needs 2.0 for that. Am I wrong? Has any one tested this?

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому +1

      You are not wrong, 50hz is what you're looking at if you're using HDMI 1.4. Part of the lacklusterness here. It's a way to have an additional input for something like a laptop. Not ideal for gaming.

    The warranty is shorter for HP because if your monitor is ever faulty they dont do repairs, they just ship you a replacement next day outright, and you just put the faulty one back in the back in that box.

  • @austinverlinden2236
    @austinverlinden2236 5 років тому

    The unit has a 1 year warranty most likely because HP OMEN failure rate is less than 1%. So Its that good that they're confident it will last you longer than a warranty.

    If you need the ultrawide space than you should have it. If the space helps and you do just a little gaming, it seems like a better fit for you. If she does heavy gaming and you don't require the space, than she should have it. For only gaming, not work, she should also have it. AMD cards usually cant run 3440x1440.

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому

      William Suan AMD cards can run that format just fine 😉 I like the 21:9 format but I'll likely take the twin 27" monitors and let her have the UW for now! Maybe I'll snag it back after I rebuild my main rig, but first I have a build for a giveaway to finish.

    I wish they would make a 32" with Gsync. I'm definitely not dropping 1300 on a monitor just for that. Idk why they only make a freesync 32 inch one.

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому

      Micah Powers Gsync is nice... I have a crackpot theory about why gsync is always more expensive.
      AMD is pro consumer pricing, they've always had better pricing for their GPUs and more affordable alternatives.
      Nvidia has always been (at the top tier) more expensive. So it feels like... if you want nvidia you're already willing to pay more for their cards, so pay more for their proprietary tech in monitors.
      Freesync monitors tend to be far more affordable. Idk maybe just a crackpot theory but that's how it makes me feel.

    I don't get HP's decision over this. Why did they decided to price this $1300 especially at THIS specific time? It has exact same specs of 4ms response time and 100hz refresh rate like x34 and pg348q which has already dropped from $1300 price tag from aging. Literally the only good thing about this is the extra 1 inch of space and sexier look but by no means I do not think that would justify the price compared to the competitors. They even have decided to use a lower VA panel compared to IPS on the others. Which is another weird thing because it has been known that the VA panel is easier to have higher refresh rate than IPS but they decided to leave it at 100hz. I know it will be difficult to have high refresh rate with ultrawide qhd but if they are trying to compete with Acer and Asus with VA panel with this price, they should have at least try to squeeze in more refresh rate. Or instead lower this price around $900-800 which would definitely attract lot more lower end consumers who wants to get qhd ultrawide for gaming.

    Matt, great review. Wanted to chime in on the G2G score. This is purely marketing. It's a meaningless number manufactures coined to sell more monitors. It literally means nothing. There are several videos on this and forum post write ups. Thanks for bringing this up. I love to see when reviewers take time out to educate their audience.

    Just curious, what does the VESA mounting adapter look like? Would it be possible to get a picture. I currently mount my LG 34" curved monitor (non-Gsync) and I'm considering a GSync panel, either Acer, Asus, or this one, just shopping around. Also thinking about waiting till we get a Display Port revision to allow for 21:9 over 100Hz (it's a dream, but I like dreaming xD)

      I've noticed with streaming services on movies I have a lackluster taste for it over IPS, the color gamut is impressive where it counts. Gaming, editing, and so on. I did a crush test per a Reddit users request which at best details the ability to distinguish minute changes. I made sure to image so it could be seen to help people. (See the link below). There are instances I feel like the UD88 (my LG UHD IPS) succeeds more where this AMVA lets me down... but in gaming, I feel the color gamut, exceeds my UHD. I ran EIZO to test (among many things) color from a real world perspective, I can say everything was very on point. As in excellent. My statement stands on price though, I had too much I wasn't super fond of to justify the price.

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому

      Vismantas Bagdonas visuals are totally a personal preference to me. When gaming and using her 10 series with gsync it is a stunning visual experience. It looks great. For other tasks it depends on monitor settings. I loath adaptive contrast.
      For not being an IPS panel I like it, but I think at the end of the day IPS is always going to be my favorite. This VA has taught me I have room in my heart to love both 😉. So manufacturer defects aside, if the price was right (equal to x34) I may just choose this over it. Until that's the case though I'm very bang for buck driven. Sorry idk if this helps I try to stay on the fence because personal tastes differ. It's hard to say 'better' or 'worse' because it's an opinion.

    So this display does not have HDR right?

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому +2

      When it comes to visual stuff they are not my forte, so someone feel free to jump in on this. HDR is the ability for an imaging device to capture a range of depth, not a devices ability so much to display. Sensors in cameras are rated (from my understanding) by their ability to encompass the color spectrum. (blacks are more black and whites are more white with everything in between).
      Some display devices (again from what I understand as there is no real governing body to the market aspects of displays) will say it is HDR capable, or an HDR TV, and all this really means from my understanding is that they boast the TV or Monitor is capable of showing you the HDR the recording sensor was able to facilitate.
      This is loosely based off the black 'crush' test, so if this answers your question, the color gamut on the monitor is incredible, and I can distinguish all tests on the crush test. (see the link in the about section for some extra clips of the monitor tests).
      The outrageous claims of contrast ratio are the 'you will like what you see' statement manufacturers make.
      Recordings are optimal in high dynamic range when they can be reproduced by a visual aesthetic in a display. The color gamut here is immense (in the X 35) and the contrast is on point. Anyways, hope this helps, if not, someone more informed can jump in and take over ;)

      Thank you verry much for you're eply really appreciated it :D
      i am looking for UWQHD monitor, i recently sent back the asus pg348Q because of terrible back light bleeding and a unimaginative amount of IPS glow which kinda made the monitor useless and for a "premium monitor" wit a "premium" price tag i found that not accepteble.
      So i have been orienting for other UQHD and this one doens't look that bad!
      Only thing i'm worreid about is the A-MVA panel that is being used, i used IPS monitors for a long time and i have doubt about A-MVA and it's colours, and since i don't know anyone with a A-MVA panel monitor to try it out i see this a "risk" factor specialy if you look @ the price tag!
      anyway..... :P thanks for the link!

    • @EightSixMatt
      @EightSixMatt  7 років тому

      Jeffrey Basemoine I'm more interested in a strong helpful community than anything 😉. They call this panel AMVA+, it is good and it very much feels IPS. I like the monitor a lot despite my issues with it, I still strongly disagree with pricing. It's just not worth the premium price tag in my opinion (and I stand by this). The ultra wide world is a beast, and in a way I'm still waiting on something that offers REAL world awesome. There is a solid reddit community with a lot of guidance to offer (ultra wide/21:9 master race). They have been a spectacular resource for me.

    I believe NVIDIA is the go to brand for displaying amazing graphics on monitors such as this. If she is running a GTX 1070 or 1080, I believe this monitor would go hand in hand with the card. If you start dipping down into the NVIDIA 900 series, performance may be impacted quite noticeably
