Why wouldn't you support this channel? Hardworking, honest couple, with ecological values and principles. Devivering a wholesome down to earth project with a vision to do the right thing. No BS, and of course the Odin element is a sure winner. There are so many skills being shown here and this couple are integrating into the local community and it looks as if they are integrating with them.

Hi Phillipe, the earthworks you are doing is - in my professional opinion - major. In most countries and local councils, it would need the certification of a civil engineer. The issues involved are:
    1. Slope stabilization. To prevent the slopes from failure. This could mean installing retaining walls. There are many types. If no retaining walls are used, then the slope incline must be no more than 45 degrees.
    2. Surface Water Drainage. This is very significant and cannot be stressed enough. Whenever humans alter the natural drainage lines of existing land, the water will move in ways that may affect the existing buildings.
    3. To deal with drainage, proper drains need to be built with inspection pits and invert levels. These must be calculated.
    4. Underground water tables. As there is a well on the site, I'm absolutely sure there are one or more underground water tables. These cannot be disturbed. Doing so will affect the geology of the area.
    5. It's very dangerous to excavate so close to the buildings. The earth will fail and will affect your buildings. The buffer should be at least 6m with a retaining wall.
You really should speak to an experienced civil engineer about all the above.
    Hope this helps.

@@alpanapaul8210 Glad you aren’t my neighbor. What if all the runoff now floods through the neighbor’s buildings? What if the neighbor’s well goes dry? What if the barn wall collapses?

I agree if the wall height was staggered bottom wall under 1.2 metres high with a step and then another retaining top wall a metre high approx .Probably height restrictions on retaining wall height without a permit. Also behind the building needs an engineer report done which may need a concrete footing to support the building under the ground to possibly ?dig a trench. If poss place your old small concrete and stones in it . Then place a large flexible drainage pipe that come in different sizes with holes on a decline for water to exit and then put more stones around it and pumice around it and cover with dirt same applies for drainage behind retaining walls. Another possibility is to dig out the concrete floor and or put plastic sheet over the existing and concrete over the top then paint with concrete sealer ?

    So many things this week!
First and foremost: Philippe is a born teacher! There I am, 76 French born grandma, living in the States now , learning mechanical tricks. Batteries? Check! Digger? Check.
6 years ago, I bought a GMC Suburban with a100 thousand miles on it. I couldn’t afford a $70,000 new car. I have a large garden. I carry stuff: straw, compost, mud, horse manure, etc… I dreamed of a pickup truck but they were too expensive. I grow a lot of my own vegetables. This old Suburban has been a godsend! I had it revamped by a local mechanic friend. I called it Myrtle, an antiquated American name, just for fun. This halfbreed of a Landover is perfect for you guys.. We had those in the Sahara Desert. You cannot kill them..🤪🤪
I look at the buildings, and I’m home , once again , in the land I was born in. I grew up in the Loire River, next to Orléans.
I had such fun watching Odin calling his cat! Lucie! Tucie! My own daughter ‘s first word was Kitty, aka , cat. She would call everything out with kitty first: cow kitty! Dog kitty! This child of mine is now fifty two and has grown children, but you know, the memories do not die.
When you put this video, you do not know who you will touch.
You touch me. I enjoy watching you.
    Bisous à tous.

Dear couple and baby, happy to see you! In a video, a while ago, you mentioned the hypothesis that the former resident created this hill behind the barn. However, I do not know whether he asked the old residents of the village to obtain confirmation of his hypothesis. I see your hard work in removing all this land, and I wonder: from where, how and what is the objective of the former resident to get this land and create this hill there, even though he has spent hours of work, fuel... including It makes your projects take longer, and the rain contributes to this too. I see the color of the earth, its compaction on this hill and I wonder if this hill wouldn't be natural to the place and, with just the barn being built in an inappropriate place, etc. Health and prosperity to the beautiful family.

    • @DomaineSauvage
      @DomaineSauvage  3 місяці тому +3

Hello, there has probably always been a hill close to the old barn but it has become higher probably with the addition of the new barn they had to get rid of there soil somewhere.. remember these are 200+ years old so a lot has happened in those years and not many around to tell us how it was. We can only make estimated guesses that it wasn’t like this in the beginning by an old barn door at the back that is useless now with the hill against it. An old farm road that is a metre deeper then it used to be etc.

@@DomaineSauvage You too Phillipe! I have an uncle who is also a "jack of all trades" and can be a carpenter, plumber, excavator, and electrician, like yourself. He and my grandparents build a campground in NJ that they put their heart and soul into for 50 years. I admire them a lot for what they did and saw how much it hurt them to finally sell it. I guess that because of that history and what my wife and I did, I find your adventure so mezmerizing. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure that we'll show up one day. Good luck!

We do not call them 'wacker plates' in NZ - never heard of that - they are compactors. ! Good that you can fix it - with Claude's help, encore une fois! Bravo, Claude 🙂 Oh that mound (of dirt) has become a mountain ... This is a huge undertaking. 'Moving mountains'. ... There is more than enough dirt to form a pond ... You must be careful. Soil is unstable, you can get slips at any time but esp. after rain. Please take care ♥♥♥

There's a colloquialism (slang) for strimmers too = weed wackers - I wonder if thats related or from the same source lol. My son picked that up from some US tv prog, either The Simpsons or Family Guy. He's the same age as Philippe 🙂
