kept a few CBS Id's and few CBS promos (one block includes promos for Beauty and The Beast, Dallas, and Falcon Crest the other batch contains one Knots Landing i just love BOTH Game Show AND Soap Opera Genre so much lol) and CBS Newsbreak
Bob has such an charming character and good humor. He is one of those cases where the gray hair made him even more distinguished. He always had a great sense of class.
Yeah unlike Drew Carey, he still sucks 13 years later.
I was 5 in '87, but as kid especially in the 80s, My Grandfather would be in his Recliner laid back watching the Price is right. Sadly I lost my Grandfather in 2006. But when I heard of Mr.Barker's Death it took me back to my Grandfather's Day of watching. But I'm Blessed enough to still have my Grandmother who will be turning 100 next Month. I told her, that she and Mr.Barker was Born in the same year of 1923. She said she never knew they were the same age. My he R.I.P
"The Price Is Right" is/was/and will always be a rite of passage of all school kids when home from school and "sick." 😂
Yes❤❤
Every time I was sick or summer vacation from Elementary School was spent with Bob on The Price Is Right. I love hearing Rod Roddy announcing.
Must see TV I loved for that show
R.I.P. King Bob Barker 1923-2023.
The 80s just gives me a happy feeling, I can't explain it.
I was about a year & a half here. The sound of this show literally makes me feel like a baby.👶🏽💕 I’m 37. It’s the strangest thing.🤦🏽♀️😩🤣🤣🤣
This is why you stayed home "sick" from school...
Always "felt better" by 11:00
Exactly! And called in sick for work! Lol
This and reruns of the Golden Girls. I was “sick” a lot 😂
One time I was out sick w strep throat in 87 when I was 10. N everyday my mom would give me my dose of amoxicliin that tasted like bubble gum at 11 am right when the show started. Great memory
I must’ve been home sick this day. At 16 I should’ve been in school this day. But I remember watching it with my grandmother and she was so happy he let it show.
My favorite thing too watch when sick from school❤❤ and during summer break and xmas break 😊
So true.
The Sultan of sick days
That's right!
Dear Bob,
Thank you for helping to take care of me when I was sick at home from school a lot.
I love you,
-Will
I love his gray hair!!!! He looks very handsome that way
This show came on at 11am when I would stay home sick from school--I grew up on east coast.
This is like an IV dose of childhood. OMFG. Lol. I love everything about this. Also, Barker was a handsome man.
Bob Barker was such a class act everything looked good on him.
i remember this day vividly... the shock when he walked out ... as a kid i thought he looked so old, now he looks so young and vibrant. RIP Bob
I was five when this aired. Somehow I remember it. "Mommy, mommy, look at Bob Barker"
Mary kicked some butt on 3 strikes
Me too I was five in preschool
I remember it too. I was six.
I was in first grade and I remember this day also. I said the same thing to my mother too.
I was just 15 days old lol.
I loved this show and Bob.
Was a favorite show as a kid ..😊
RIP BOB ❤
RIP Mr. Bob Barker...You will always be the best Price is Right host in my book.
Omg!! I remember this when I was 16. I was watching this with my grandmother. When he came out she said, “Wow, I’m SO happy he let his gray show.” I didn’t think it was a big deal, since my grandmother always let her gray hair show. I didn’t even know his hair was dyed that whole time. Watching it now I fully understand, partly because I’m now going gray.
Bob Barker was 64 there, live 35 more yrs!🎉
I just love that the price is right kept its 70s vibe thru bob's run. At some point in the 80s, there had to be a producer meeting to decide... " Hey we've let this 70s theme go on a bit long.. do we update or just run with it as our thing? " I love their choice to just keep it as a feature
That's really fun. He handled it really well and everyone was down for it. Good timing. Thanks for sharing!
Hear the great Rod Roddy. Ohhh, Yes. You just knew something AMAZING was about to happen. Loved this episode
I thought, too, Rod's intro had a little more oomph to it.
Yes, Rod Roddy was the GREATEST
I remember him as the voice of Mike the Microphone on Disney's House of Mouse.
I remember this episode lol. I was on break at my year round school and my mom saw it and said, "he looks very handsome for a white man". That was high praise from my mom.
That's racism actually lol.
Bob is half-Sioux.
I was luckily a contestant around Aug 1993 or 94. Cant remember. I was about 22 years old. Name got called then I bid closest and won a large globe that lights up when touched ($1400). I got the pick a pair game but lost a dinning room set. At the wheel I went first and got 2 35s = 70. The second contestant went over but then the last girl got a dollar. That ended my Price is Right glory!
And yes, I had to pay tax on the globe which I still have after 30 years and show off to anyone who sees it.
Fun story! The globe must be actually nice too, for that price in the early 90s.
You should search around on UA-cam, you might find your episode.
What was Bob Barker like? Do you remember your conversation with him?
I’m crying 😢 right now. Rest in peace Bob Barker thanks for the memories.
I remember watching this episode live. My Mom came into the room as the show started and saw Bob Barker and was like "oh my gosh! What happened to Bob?" haha.
1:01 Twenty Years of Bob hosting with Grey Hair officially begins
And back in the days of when standing ovations really meant something.
Was the standing ovation for the hair?
Lmao back when eating a hamburger meant something
Boy, that Mazda 323 was fancy!!😂 Mary was quite the player, no strikes and giddy as heck!☺💲
That speed queen washer dryer combo just might still be around today. They were and are absolute tanks!
Highlight of being home sick was watching this, eating some top ramen soup, and sleeping
I think we all love Bob either with dark hair or gray! It doesnt matter!!! I tried to get the episode when he came out on the turn table to come on & Betty White was a guest star!! I honestly dont remember it.
September 14, 1988 is the episode where Bob comes around on the turntable.
I like dark in all, but I'm used to his white hair.
It’s like a 45 minute show and Bob did 10 minutes on his hair 😂 legend
Um 3 and a half minutes.
Rod Roddy! The perfect replacement to Johnny Olson!
The next shocking event in game show history will be on 9/18/2001 when the late Alex Trebek shaved his iconic mustache.
What a fabulous playing of 3 Strikes!
I happen to be home that day
not much to do
but the TV
AND THIS EPISODE
OF THE PRICE IS RIGHT
WILL FOREVER TO ME BEING MONUMENTAL MOMENT IN TIME
I was 4 when this aired, super nostalgia right here. Watching Price Is Right with my mom and sister as a kid is one of my favorite childhood memories
I remember watching this with my Grandma. I was blown away how different he looked. I was 11. I miss you Nana❤️❤️
The smile on Holly's face when she revealed the losing price with that first contestant🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow.... I actually remember this episode! This used to come on before I got on the bus in Kindergarten. I kept wondering what happened to his hair😂😂
woohoooooooooooooo you go Mary xxxx no strikes. that was fabulous and for the lady playing at home... thats awesome. i used to watch this daily when Bob was hosting. RIP Bob love you always
How bad is TV today to watch these reruns from 35 years ago LOL I love them of course :D
I know right
I watch almost no current TV. I watch all the 80s and 90s reruns from my childhood.
10:22 YES!!! Mary done hit a grand slam playing 3 Strikes! And winning an '87 Mazda 323 hatchback to boot!
And so did Consuelo Grepo on Benicia, CA, who watched TPIR on independent station KOFY-TV 20 San Francisco (since then Group W owned-and-operated KPIX-TV Channel 5 pre-empted much of CBS' daytime schedule up till 1994).
Consuelos been dead for 12 years
From the GLC to the 323, to the Protégé, to the awesome Mazda3.
it was a crying shame how CBS affiliate KPIX deprived much of Northern California of T.P.I.R. by replacing this show with tabloid crap like "People are Talking", for a long time period.
I'm over here cheering for Mary winning that car nearly 40 years ago haha, I know she's long since passed but I hope she had a great rest of her life after this episode!
bittersweet seeing all the fun people above middle age in these old episodes, reminds me of my late grandparents
Spoilers! 😂😂😂😂
I just realized Bob Barker had the same cadence and speech delivery of Jack Benny.
Which is ironic because Studio 33 is the same studio where Jack Benny did his show.
I had to go look up video clips of Jack Benny. you're right! I guess it was just the way they did it in the 50s and Bob carried it over through the 00s
My fav era!! The bob i always knew and started watchin 😊
"Fingers Greco" sounds like someone that will come break your kneecaps if you say you didn't like Bob's hair!
I love Bob Barker may he forever rest in peace
LOL I love it. This was the day I turned 4.
I had just turned 5 a month earlier and I actually remember this episode. I was ignorant of hair dyes, and I didn't understand how his hair became white overnight.
This guy had charisma coming out of every pore
That’s the Bob Barker I’ll always remember. RIP Big Price
The gray hair Bob Barker, my favorite appearance
Same here, made even better with Rod Roddy sounding beyond Excited to introduce him.
Same here
It is so much fun to watch these and try to guess the prices on prizes taking inflation into account.
I was living in Germany when this aired but did not see bob with his grey hair until 1988 when we came back from Germany because the American forces network or (AFN) which is the channel for the Americans stationed there in the military did not air the price is right. Exciting to see it though.
The energy, the crowd, the etiquette, and the attire of the audience speaks to how far we as a nation have declined. Our national epitaph will read: With Freedom Comes Responsibility.
R.I.P Bob Barker 1923 - 2023.💔🕊️
I remember this change rocked the community of the retirement home my grandparents lived in at the time. People were all in a tizzy delirious with ecstasy.
I remember watching this too- in college at my apartment chilling, instead of at the library where I was supposed to be. Lol😂
As a kid, I thought that Bob Barker switched places with Johnny Carson, not realizing that Bob Barker actually went gray (or was already gray, but was tinting/dying his hair).
A standing ovation for not dying his hair! I recall this was a news item in Canada.
It certainly brings back memories to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!
Bob in this episode is only a couple years younger than Drew is now and looks much better .
Bob Barker with gray/white hair was more handsome and sophisticated than when he had dark hair.
80's and 90's! Peak game show era.
Too many mornings at 11 am i was home from school watching this
RIP Mr Barker, we'll miss you!😭
Sick day.from school...it was this show and soup
7UP and crackers for me, and the humidifier if I was feeling really bad.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd so excited about seeing someone with gray hair! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They LOVED you Bob...Rest in peace...I AIN'T gonna even hold you...😑
seeing that desktop telephone cracked me up sideways. not only its a phone, but its a calculator and a clock. now thats worth 895 dollars in 1987
1987 is when this episode aired.i saw this episode.this is back when bob barker was the host and rod roddy was the announcer.
Thanks captain obvious.
@@andrewscasualmtb Grow up.
This was about a week before my 9th birthday...I miss those days.
I think Phyllis was the real life Rose from the Golden Girls🤦
those lights were pretty exciting as a kid
I miss Rod and Bob. California looked so happy.
And it seems here that Bob still had some hints of his former hair in this first gray look, before going full gray some time later.
It took a while for all the dye to finally wash out.
Amazing how Bob looked this old for 40 years
The gray hair looks better than the beard Drew Carey now sports.
The BEARD must GO
I agree!
@@danielmaddox7792 REMOVE BEARD. RESTORE PRICE IS RIGHT
I think Drew is doing great though
Same
I loved the old cast and crew! The models were all natural beauties nothing fake from teeth down to their nails! The today's set is too florescent in colors, and everything moves way too fast...like the show on steroids. RIP Bob, no one can replace you or those real beauties
3 trips and a car for a showcase? Omg, they wouldn't do that nowadays
I miss the old Pick-A-Pair with the carnival wheel and music.
by then Bob was already 63 going on 64,
it was about time he let his hair go gray.
Vinny continue to host the show for another 20 years and now he's 97 still with us
@@redmustangredmustang I hope he lives to be well past 100 :)
ua-cam.com/video/_-8dytUtjlQ/v-deo.html
He is 99 years old today
And now he's reunited with Dorothy Jo (his wife).
20:30. Desk top phone had me laughing when it rolled out.
I love that they gave him a standing ovation for it.
“Alright Happy, nice and easy…..that was NOT nice and easy…”
i like the sound quality of this episode
There is no "CBS StereoSound" yet but i am not sure. I think those began around October or November 1988.
Couldn't even get that sailboat for 15k today in 2023
43:38 “This are it.”
$1100 for a showcase? Lady, this isn't the 1950's!
Spoilers :p
She wasn’t wrong
😂
RIP Bob. They should’ve showed the beginning of this episode during the tribute episode.
So weird to think that price is right's ratings actually got better when Bob decided to stop dying his hair
Andes Candies @26:32 They were very popular and so many flavors back then.
One day before my birth (as well as the day baby Jessica was pulled out of the well), one of my favorite TV personalities revealed his true and final form!
13:41 I want you to know we deal in accuracy here. Look what Janice is doing to this picture of me. See that, the grey hair? (Laughs)
Wow Bob Barker's new hair and Baby Jessica. What a day!
They carried the shows music from the 70s straight into the 80s.
It wasn’t that different in the 90’s either
One thing I noticed is in those days they'd actually describe the product.
"Quench your thirst and replenish your electrolytes with a delicious and refreshing Gatorade, available in 10 different flavors. Gatorade, the Thirst Quencher."
Today it'd be, "That's a 28 oz bottle of Gatorade."
The voice of game shows like vin scully is the voice of baseball
When I would pretend to be sick to skip school in the 90s and early 00s I thought TPIR was retro. Now I realize it just never changed and was more stuck in time, like grandma’s house.
