Been towing both a 17' Key West Center Console and a loaded 6X12 Box trailer ~2500 cross country many times. Pulls far better than most other V6 SUVs I have owned in the past with the exception of a 2008 Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 Merc Diesel. Very happy with the light towing capability and how the car handles at highway speeds and in the mountains over the 3 years I have owned it.
is that 2500 lbs? I believe this is a Canadian channel so not sure lol. IM trying to 3900 lbs, with this vehicle but just not sure if the 4 cylinders can handle it.
A friend of mine hauls his boat with the CX-9 in the summer. Four people plus extras and loves the way it handles. He uses that manual feature extensively to help out the load. Great video - thanks!
Really appreciate the towing review! Been looking for one...I did get my 2" installed on the cheap with Uhaul...only $375 including the wiring harness...which is about 1/2 that of the dealer. I will be towing a 6x12 trailer and XUV...so I'll be about 2500lbs...sounds like I could add a couple dirt bikes and still be OK.
im 6,1 200 pounds and i fit in the back room pretty comfortably, and the turbo set up on this cx-9 is amazing and no turbo lag either! mazda has done an extremly good job on this car! i can see a new Mazda speed with AWD coming out soon and it will deffinitly be be tough for oyher competetors to compete!
CubanoMX There's almost too much torque for the CX-9. It needs more grip with some better tires. We get quite a bit of wheel spin even with TCS on and dry conditions. We have the front wheel drive touring with premium pkg.
Stephen, this is too funny. After watching you (and others) review some sea-doos, I bought one. Then, I wanted to see a review of a CX-9 towing - and there you are again!!! Showing me exactly what I wanted to know, which is how it tows a jet ski. Thanks for the great videos!!!
Great review! I am surprised as to how much low end torque this vehicle has. The CX-9's styling is just so bold and eye catching. This vehcicle is the epitome of "You can have a stylish car that doesn't compromise practicality". Also, if you want to check out my UA-cam channel. I am 15 and love everything cars. With your help I can reach my goals and dreams. Keep up the great work!
Just picked up the 2022 model, Mazda no longer offers OEM Class III 2" reciever. Only Class II 1 1/2" reciever. Probably for liability reasons as Class II maxes out at 3500 lbs, the towing capacity of the CX9. Didn't know how widely used Class III was so essentially threw $600 out the window. I can make it work with Travel trailers but Adjustabke hitches don't seem to exist for Class II so have to buy a preset drop hitch and wire in a 7 pin connector for a brake controller.
+sic22l not the turbo. regular turbo normally start to kick in power at 3500 or 4000 rpm. the new cx9 have DPTURBO. it's like a biturbo. a clever design able to provide full torque since low rpm (2000) with premium or even regular gas!
So I am getting a 2014 CX-9 GT with the tow prep package and only FWD. it has a larger transmission oil cooler, radiator stuff and something else I don’t quite get. What does this all mean for me?
sic22l not really. this is why BMW have twin turbo, to avoid lag until 3500 rpm. full torque from 2000rpm and regular gas is just an incredible tech and design.
@ray conforti nope. Had to buy a different car. Nissan pathfinder platnum with tow package. I'm very upset bc I did a lot of research before buying the TT. Now I owe 10,000 over all.
I am towing a Coachmen Clipper 108ST with the 2016 CX-9 Grand Touring AWD. My trailer weighs about 2,600 fully loaded as measured by a vehicle scale. I can barely tell its behind me most of the time. The CX-9 makes a great towing vehicle for a small load like this. I highly recommend that you get a brake controller installed and use electric trailer breaks on the pop-up so as not to overheat the CX-9 brakes and simply for safety. Also, make sure you factor in the fully-loaded weight of the pop-up (the GVWR), NOT the dry weight that the manufacturer advertises. I am very happy with the towing performance of the CX-9 with my 2,600 lb pop-up and 4 passengers with cargo in the CX-9.
love you buddy but i can't stop that one from come out, nice review though. 3:50 only 2700 pounds, you should have stayed on the mower, it would have reach max capacity right away.

@@XRPirates_Booty 3900 is too much. Engine would have no problem, but the hitch and weight rating is too low for that much weight.

Mazda has already announced that they have no intention (as of right now) of making anymore speed3's or speed6's 😢💔
NormileGuy and the motor have too much torque for a Mazda 3. is just too much.

Why no mention of the Dynamic Stability Control and Trailer Stability Assist standard on on that Signature Trim Level?
Towing light stuff shouldn't be an issue, good thing mazda didn't install cvt transmissions bc that would be a different story.

good for soft towing and family vacations
This guy is the one from Bad Santa?
lmao
I'm impressed by the torque numbers on this 4 cylinder,315@2000rpm.
Turbo does the job.

CubanoMX Modern turbos are kicking in really early. Look at VW's TSI or BMW engines.
The reliability on this engine will be utter shit.
***** that statement is backed by what proof?
Great review! Concise.
Straight to the point. Nice.
Any good RVs that I can tow with this? I have a 2020 CX-9 and I know not much trailers are over 3500 pounds
Good information
Good review.
4 pin wiring = no trailer brakes. Not legal for 3500 lbs in a lot of states.
No run over brakes known in the states? 3500 lbs without brakes? no wonder that you got the highest death toll of the first world...
So I am getting a 2014 CX-9 GT with the tow prep package and only FWD. it has a larger transmission oil cooler, radiator stuff and something else I don’t quite get. What does this all mean for me?
I can see myself pulling a sea-do with a white or black CX-9.
0:18 That's a bit too loud.
PS. Max torque at 2000 rpm is not surprisingly low in a turbocharged engine.
regular turbo start providing power at 3500. this is a dynamic pressure turbo. it's like a biturbo.
CubanoMX That was 15 years ago. Today turbos are different. VW's 1.8 TSI gives you 200 lb-ft from just 1600 rpm.
sic22l not really. this is why BMW have twin turbo, to avoid lag until 3500 rpm. full torque from 2000rpm and regular gas is just an incredible tech and design.
CubanoMX BMW has twin scroll turbo to avoid lag. It's a single turbocharger.
I have a travel trailer of 3300 dry weight. Is this safe with a class 3 hitch?
im interested to know if you towed with it? Im trying to tow around the same if not a little more.
@ray conforti nope. Had to buy a different car. Nissan pathfinder platnum with tow package. I'm very upset bc I did a lot of research before buying the TT. Now I owe 10,000 over all.
can you tow a sedan with it
Prob not since a car will weigh 3500 plus.
Also, what about a small pop up camper like a Coleman.

thats really good mpg for big truck
Is this guy the kid from Bad Santa?
what's with the discount knockoff Craig impostors?
love you buddy but i can't stop that one from come out, nice review though.

нормальные обзоры делаешь давай больше видосов...
Anyone tow with a CX-5? I’m hesitant.
I am just a jet ski...no issues.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
