  • In this video, I am going to show you how I take on the mighty Cajon Pass grade using dynamic braking and train brakes. Real world operations are probably not represented correctly here as this is a sim and I am not a real railroader. Let me know if this helps you enjoy the sim!
    Hope you enjoy!

12:30 A good real-life technique there, since the summit of Cajon is long and flat, is to drag the train over. As in you keep pulling the train and set your air on the flat so you're basically stretch braking it over the side of the hill. It keeps you stretched and keeps your power up so you can control your speed and when you're ready to transition into dynamics, your brakes are already on, warm, and sticky. I've tipped over Cajon a zillion times doing that both from Summit and Hiland, works like a charm. I never liked floating in just low dynamics, at least not right there, you have no brakes and not enough dynamics to hold anything back and it creates too much slack. I'd hate to spill my -beer- I mean Coffee.
