Thank you for being the only person for harmonic balancer installs that show the back side of the harmonic balancer during install. Man thank u. You’re the only person I have found that did that. Much appreciated. You got guys that do the video perfect and don’t show the back side lip. Thanks again
Thanks for sharing. I'd recommend using the installer tool made for LS motors, from summit racing. 40 dollars and very easy to use. hammering on the balancer runs the risk of damaging the thrust bearing causing crank end play to be impacted. i believe 240 ft. lbs is what is recommended. If you use the re-usable ARP bolt, its 235 ft. lbs.
Lucky Muse can you help me. Please explain how I can do this. My brother and sister-in-law niece and nephew have a 1994. 88 Royale. And if it's $20 can get it fixed that would be a blessing that would be an amazing thing
This is for a Ls motor if it had a Ls motor you can go on line and fine the installation bolt with washers for around 20 bucks that'll make life a lot easier if it's the original motor might want to look up videos for that model specificly thanks for watching
I read it's suppose to be 240 llbs ft torque for the old bolt then 37 for the new bolt the old bolt isn't gonna break right when I torque it to 240???? When I tried to torque it down it was very hard I could get it to 240 I was only able to get it to 129 I used a digital torque wrench and I used ft pounds
+john doe no it won't break it's a very thick bolt and they have it set so high so that the bolt won't back out and fly off...that's what happen to my buddy he has a LSA in his Impala and his harmonic balancer flew off
Correct torques. Get it all the way using the old bolt to torq to 240 Ft lbs. Remove old bolt and use new bolt and torq to 37 Ft lbs. After it is torq to 37 Ft lbs.then turn the bolt another 140 degrees. This is correct way to install a LS 2 harmonic balancer.
That's what a Chevy dealership told me as well but seems a bit sketchy to me I'd use an installation tool so I could at least slid it on better so the old bolt had more threads then use the old bolt to pull it snug
+john gonsoulin no worries first thing first you safe secondly everyone makes mistake and it's long as you learned from it no short cuts and do it right the first time ive learned that the hard way

+Jake G I actually have the tool now best investment ever no doubt about that thanks
couldn't you heat it up in the oven and then install?
@@jb6574 whats all that heat do to the rubber seal??
@@DestroyAllorNothing dry it out and become brittle lol...i mentioned the oven method because ive heard quite a few people using this method
@@DestroyAllorNothing nothing the seal is made for heat.
how did you keep the engine from turning when torquing the bolt? Thanks
Is there supposed to be a gap in the back of the harmonic balancer or it it supposed to be pressed up against the engine block?
check it before removal dude.
This is 5 years old. But did you fixed it ? I have the same issue.
Harbor freight has a 3 pulley kit for like $20 and pulled off my old one really quick

Did you have to remove the front bumper in order to get in there?
+Adrian Becerra no sir our impalas and Caprice has plenty of work space I did this with the raidator on to
And how did you make sure it was lined up properly? There’s no key in mine either.
Just slap it on
what do I have to do to tighten the balancer with 240ft lbs. and stop the engine rotation. how do you stop the engine rotation.
Use a pipe or bar to stop the crank and air gun or torque wrench and a strong ass arm...thanks for watching
Don't use an air impact gun

235 .lb ft for the ARP
I'm watching this because mine flew off 😑
+john gonsoulin your have to torque them down to like 250 crazy right but that's the only way to play it safe
96blkonblkSs yeah I didn't go that high and I didn't replace the bolt. Learning the hard way!

john gonsoulin so did mine
@@johngonsoulin7413 wasnt goig to replace my bolt either. AM NOW. cheers bro.
I can't believe how many bums there are who hit the thumbs down! mash that thumbs up!
Not a good idea to beat on the crank like that you should invest in the balancer install tool
I have one and beating it isn’t going to hurt it (NOT A GREAT IDEA) but trust me it’s fine doing a update on this video showing the proper way
That’s not the proper way to install it they do have installation tools you can either buy or borrow from your auto local store.
But you’re looking up videos on how to install one? 😅🤣😂👍🏾
