Love the group and can't wait to see them for the first time this spring (I still get goosebumps hearing Horse With No Name and instantly go back to first grade when it was on the radio all the time). And I have to mention Dick Clark's amazing talent; we can joke about his Bloopers and New Years shows and Publishers Clearinghouse schmaltz and all that. But his mic skills, going with the flow, self-deprecation, all in impromptu mode, while still sticking to the "script" is just so impressive. A real pro he was.
Hi dear Louise ! Thank you for your comment. I love America since I was teenage. I love Gerry Beckley because He is a great singer and a great songwriter. He is a very handsome too Lol...I made videos about America and posted it on UA-cam. Please, watch: Gerry Beckley CHASING the RAINBOW, Dewey Bunnell Ventura Highway-- and others. Nice to meet you. God bless you dear.Thank you. 🇧🇷❤🇧🇷
Just my humble opinion, but they were better when they produced themselves, and they were absolutely brilliant their first album. I intend no disrespect to George Martin, but in pursuing a legend like Martin, America forgot they were exceptional themselves, as the first release showed. Moreover, with Dan Peek, the three constituted a fantastic WHOLE much greater than the exceptional parts. All in all, three really bright, musical cats. That first album.............the acoustic guitar sound, the playing, the harmony, the atmospheric songs....were wondrous, and one doesn't hear the likes of it these days what with all the processing and autotune oriented material.
@@ladyi7609 Yeah, even though they're American (Even Dewey changed to an American nationality) I feel like we have claim in them as well as brits since they started here and Dewey was born here. They are an American-British group just like the Jimi Hendrix experience is an American-British group as well.
NO, EVANGELINA. DAN IS AMERICAN, JUST LIKE DEWS AND GERS. GREAT AMERICAN BAND. JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE WAS AN AMERICAN-BRITISH BAND BECAUSE OF THE OTHER TWO-THIRDS OF THE BAND. I'LL SHOW MYSELF OUT.

XD Here's what's funny. When I go to Cars videos, its all girls on Benjamin Orr. When I go to America vids, I notice its Gerry Beckley. Hey man. I'm a straight guy and agree lol.
Their accents reveal their upbringing. I couldn't actually tell which kind of American accent they both belong to, and the answer is that they didn't grow up in the US... they mostly grew up in London, and I can feel that clearly, especially Dewey's accent sometimes verges on English 'singsongs'.
As someone who grew up and lived in many different parts of London i honestly can't feel any british in Dewey's accent... American accents don't all sound the same, even the same regional accent can sound different between individuals and it's even more so the case at the time... He sounds way more "Standard" American than any british accent i've heard, Dewey doesn't sound very different from some Americans i've talked to
@@donquixotedoflamingo5510 I'm a Scot, lad. I'll tell you: Gerry sounds really General American to me. I know his dad was from Chicago, he's got nothing like a Chiago accent, though. He'd spent some time as a child in Virginia, but anyway always in a US Air Force Base, very little contact with the locals... then he had to move to Germany with his English mum and his dad, until he was a teenager and came to Britain. Dewey sounds more southern, somehow Dixie. He'd been living in Biloxi as a youngster, but again, little contact with the locals. He then moved to California and finally got to London. His mum is from Yorkshire, though. What I can perceive in Dewey's sing-a-song voice (much more than Gerry's) is something that to me is alien to American accents, which tend to be all very relaxed and so enormously stretched. He doesn't do that.
@@220773 I don't agree about the sing-a-song voice being Alien to the US since i've heard many Americans with it, speaking in a are "short" sounding manner (Unrelaxed/not stretched). Althought Alot of americans speak in a very relaxed and stretched out manner like you said so i understand where you're coming from, chances are he got the sing-a-song voice from here in the UK anyway.... Dewey's accent sounds more like a standard American accent than a Southern one to me, although it does have a southern touch to it now that you mention it.
@@220773 I think the sing-song voice is more of an individual trait rather than an accent trait. The average American tends to speak in a more relaxed manner compared to the average brit for sure. But still... plenty of Americans out there have that rising and falling unstretched pitch manner of speaking. I don't think the sing-song is that uncommon in the US.

This was real music. And such nice people, they had good parents and were moral and kind, that's America...
These guys are absolute gems. God bless America
I agree with you.
@@logicalnetwork1611 why are they not in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame?
Gerry Beckley....sigh...😍😍😍
Dewey's pretty adorable, too. They're so kind and humble.
America made their network debut on American Bandstand on Saturday December 4,1982 singing “Right Before Your Eyes” and “You Can Do Magic”😀👍🏿🎸🎶
One of my all favorite bands ❤

They are very down to earth in concert. They come across as super humble. Now, all that aside, how are they not in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame?

They started in London! And both Dewey and Gerry have English mums, so they're half-British anyway. :)

Great questions from DC
Dewey nota MIL!!!! Banda nota MIL!!!
dewey's so cute and hot
Why do they call him dewey hes birth name was Lee martin.
Somebody called him Dewey on the beach when he was surfing, making fun of him for being a surfer dude. Lee liked it so went by Dewey from then on.
Gerry ❤️❤️❤️
There was a murder committed in the house on abbeyroad. It was in Victorian times.

What episode is this?
It's from Nov/Dec 1982. I distinctly remember this appearance on American Bandstand.
wtf i find Gerry Beckley attractive 😐😐
I agree. I find Gerry Beckley handsome too. But when Gerry had long hair, in his younger years, he looked like a hippie.
the interviewer 'Dick' Clark lives up to his first name. He was soooo NOT prepared ...he got soooooo much wrong!
They had to HATE lip synching on American Bandstand.
Rainbow 🌈 Theatre 👍
Shame Dick Clark didn't do his homework before this interview. He wasn't really interested in the band and came across as arrogant.
He's always like that with all artists.
Not as good without Dan Peek.
