It's nice to know Dewey and Gerry stuck together all these years even though their popularity went downhill after the 70's . They had quite a bit of hits which people still love to hear in concerts.

in the 80´s the "you can do magic" was listened in every radio station, i started with their first LP recorded by george Martin after the Beatles but only recentelly i discovered and listened several times to sister golden hair ,this because i saw a late 70´s dr.peppers central park concerts with America ,first i stayed watching because they had a lot of footage of people around and in the park that year, it made me remenber other times

In 1972 - 73 ..... I was laying in my van in the California Sierras on an overnight, a few bones with the sittin' round the camp fire moments before ..... I put a cassette into the dash player and became entranced in THE SOUNDS of "America" - a great thing had begun and I enjoyed the ride .... this one and all that followed ! My favorite was SANDMAN ! Riverside was Dewey's first fully-fledged song (as songwriter) and the band still performs it live (2021/22), and it sounds AMAZING, still!! I can never listen to it just once at a time - - The melody, mood, lyric, beat; Dewey's silky smooth, soulful voice and Gerry's masterful guitar licks: Great music never fades, it just gets sweeter with age! Long live America!!! 👑🎸🎶🌟

Late 70’s I played the grooves off of the Hideaway album. Bought it on a whim was pleasantly surprised. Best memory was of my uncle driving us to the drag strip in NJ with lonely people playing on the radio and him singing out of tune. America is part of the soundtrack of my life.

I first came across the band America when I heard the song: “Horse with No Name.” At the time I was looking for an acoustic sound that might be a substitute for Crosby, Stills, and Nash who had been having their own difficulties and were heading for a break-up. America filled that void and I’ve been a fan ever since. I’ve seen the band nearly a dozen times and they have never disappointed. The sound that they have created is authentic and their own brand. Keep up the great work and unique sound. Kudos America for making music 🎼 Terry Flood, Weehawken, NJ ❤

Take a look at America's latest albums. Listen to all of the songs. There is some awesome music on there. Incredibly underrated.
Listen to the 1994 album "Hourglass", 2007 "Here & Now", and 2015 "Lost & Found". These albums are stacked with great work.
Also the reviewer didn't even mention their latest album "Lost & Found" and barely touched on the other previous two that I've mentioned.
In my opinion America is one of the greatest bands of all time.

I saw America after coming back from Vietnam in 1972. I was then stationed in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. I can't remember if I saw them in 72 or later in 73. One of the band members had just got married and possibly spending their honeymoon there. I dont recall which band member was celebrating their honeymoon BUT the concert was awesome....glad they are still out there. Also I am an Air Force kid, so we do have something in common....

I grew up in UK and for some reason in a memory dating back to childhood
I always link Ventura Highway with Rockford PI . He always seemed to be driving along the beautiful California coast and that's how California is fixed in my
memory today. I've never been there and I realise the Reality is nothing like
that but ....who cares ?! For me California means Ventura Highway in the
Sunshine and Jim Rockford in his car . RIP Jim Garner and Dan Peek. 🙏🙏

As a Brit in the mid 80's I used to drink at RAF South Ruislip with my US Marine friends in the enlisted bar.
Earlier though in the early 70's I saw America a few times. The one that I remember was at a Church hall in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (England). The hall was less than half full, smell of pot everywhere, you could walk right up to the stage only a few few away from them. Little did I know then what they'd turn into!

Also, you gentlemen started as friends & still are with something in common; your love of music & God-given talent which you constantly worked @ thru more than 50yrs w/ups & downs of life on "a world stage"/how cool is that plus you "kept it real" 'cause you knew how lucky "the gift" was but didn't rest on them but your "life force" plus LOVE of family & friends & fans reflected the results of such hard work for when I view your concerts/listen to the Majic of the Music it transports me to "beautiful, basic truth & simplicity which to me means the Power of the Divine thru one of the "great communicators" in our lives: M U S I C/sorry 'bout goin' on & on" but entertainers like you all over the world matter now more than ever w/positive "on-off" switch of the crazy to the Simple. Peace to you all always & thank you once again. (P.S. my favorite song amongst all your incredible repertoire is the simple solo one whose title doesn't come to mind due to "temp age/brain gas whichthankfully goes away"🙄

IIRC, Horse With No Name was NOT on the first album. Not initially. It was a stand-alone single that became a hit AFTER the album had been released. So the record company then issued a revised version of that first album containing that track. That's why those albums have the declaration "includes...A Horse with No Name" because by then it was already an established hit.

I also found the research to be solid and I learned I a lot about the group from this video, so way to go on that! As with other viewers, I found the narration to be a bit too fast (as if you were reading from a teleprompter that was moving at a speed that you were struggling to keep up with). As the result of this, and also slurred words at some points, I had to stop and go back to listen to certain passages again. In addition to slowing down the delivery, I believe that you could benefit from a speech therapist, which in turn would likely help improve your future videos. In conclusion though, thank you for all your effort in making and posting this informative video!

I think any video with the content of what happened to the band America needs to focus on several things but foremost it needs a little detail on Dan Peek’s departure. The band was never the same after he left. He felt as though being in a rock band was too detrimental to his spiritual life. Often, when this happens it’s the guy in the band that is the partier. The guy with destructive behavior. That was Dan. I don’t think Gerry and Dewey ever forgave him for bolting. That was pretty huge in what happened to this band and it was totally glossed over and almost ignored in this video.

All are American except Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell mothers were English.

"Rooeyslip".....love the way Americans pronounce some of our towns! It's Ruislip but that's understandable of course, after all we pronounce Trottiscliffe "Trozley!!

My favorite from Holiday. To me though, their first album is really their best. Three guys with 12-string acoustic guitar arrangements sounds so amazing.

Actor Bill Mumy, from Lost in Space, played with them. At least in the studio, possibly some live dates. Not sure.
