  • These are two episodes from the Dutch-German-Japanese-Spanish animated children's show Alfred J. Kwak. It originally aired from 1989 till 1990 and was based on a Dutch stage show by Herman van Veen. The show was remarkable for a children's cartoon because of its inclusion of adult themes such as income inequality, Apartheid and the rise of fascism.

    Episode 4 - My Father is Henk: • Alfred J. Kwak - Ep4 -...
Episode 22 - Dolf Is Justice: • Alfred J. Kwak Episode...

Even after so many years watching this as a child I still get happy and nostalgic listening to the intro. I loved Alfred as a kid.

You haven't seen the episodes where Alfred is serving the navy and they get a spy on board of their ship. That spy is a sparrow, in Dutch a sparrow is called a "Mus". The sparrow is spying for Russia that's in the series called Musland or freely translated to English "Mussia". I Loved (and still love) this series as a kid. It's all about the world, politics, the good and the bad... Endless topics. Thanks and credits to Herman van Veen and to the German artist Harald Siepermann (died too young in 2013) who was the animation father of all the characters in the series.

The young crow in clip #1 is the same crow in clip #2 (his name is Dolf).
His beak is yellow because his mother was a blackbird, making him a hybrid. His mother dies when he's young and his father is implied to be an abusive alcoholic. He fears becoming a victim of racism and, because of this, becomes obsessed with painting his beak black to hide it. He confesses this when trapped in the well with Alfred when they're small children.
In season 1, Dolf is a deuteragonist, and he's shown becoming more and more of a villain (despite Alfred's attempts to befriend and be nice to him), until it culminates in season 1 finale, where he becomes a bird hitler. His characterization (and the overall storyline) detoriates in season 2 though, because it consist of mostly unrelated oneshots that don't actually affect anything, and his final confrontation with Alfred in the last episode is..... less than i expected.

Is saw this cartoon is my youth in The Netherlands, this cartoon was great. Really educative. Learning about history, politics, crisis, like hunger or deceases and also science. It was great. Like reading a historybook. Dolf is rechtvaardig, is just like a combination from Hitler and Napoleon.

Great of you that you watched the Crow Party episode Entertainmenthoek. Very important part of our history and yes a bit of a heavy theme indeed. Your reactions are priceless and as a Dutch citizen I find it of course very amusing. Alfed has a girlfriend of color though. Her name is Winnie Wanna (from the South Africa of that animal universe). Great video keep it up!

Alfred is raised by a mole because his parents and siblings were killed in a road accident in episode 2. The mole (Henk) was a family friend and adopted Alfred when he was orphaned. He's also one of the main characters through the whole series.

It was more of a hit and run than an accident. Alfred's parents were carrying their ducklings in a large clog to their new home. They had to cross a road to get there. Alfred got out of the clog to chase a butterfly, and his godfather (the mole) stayed behind with him to make sure he didn't get lost or hurt. At the same time a fancy car full of wealthy businessmen was driving down the road, and they hit and killed Alfred's parents and siblings. The wealthy businessmen fled the scene leaving the bodies were they were, in a very similar way as the ´´afluenza kid´´ did a few years ago. That's why Alfred was raised by his godfather, who also became his father.

And the tycoon (K. Rokodil) becomes the second main villain for the whole series, until he gets arrested in the penultimate episode.
It's unclear if Alfred and Henk ever found out that it was Rokodil who killed Alfred's family.

    •  8 місяців тому

@@Dreamweaver393 When I watched the episode, it looked more like it was built up to be an accident.
When Rokodil and (I think) Hannibaal take off in the car, he knocks a statue over, showing carelessness.
Later, it is nighttime and very rainy, with a shot from the inside of the car showing that it is difficult for the two to see what is ahead.
Then there is a lightning strike that causes the driver to steer wildly in surprise.
This all culminates into a second lightning strike that startles them and causes the car to move wildly and then hit Alfred's family.
      EDIT: spelling and phrasing.

This was one of my favorite shows as a kid, alongside Candy Candy and Clémentine. This is why it shocks me when parents say children are too young to be taught about certain things. Clémentine was a brave little girl who traveled through stories fighting evil, and she lost the use of her legs for a while, but that didn't stop her. I learned what domestic abuse was from Candy Candy, and also that WWI happened. I learned about Apartheid and WWII watching Alfred J Kwak, all before I was ten years old. It's not that you can't teach kids about the Holocaust, Apartheid, slavery, and other crucial historic and also current issues, it's all about knowing how to talk about according to each stage of development. Kids are a lot smarter than ppl give them credit for, and frankly, I feel a lot of times it's more about the parents not wanting to talk about these issues, period.

Wel the intro is kinda accurate though... Because this show has more than 25 episodes within a range of 3 episodes sometimes 4 an other theme. Like growing up, losing parents, being wrongfully accused, Aliens and space trips, fishery and envirolmental problems, Dictatorship / monarchy and politics, love and entertainment (see the episode of michael duckson ;). And there is also an episode about slavery and black/white issues.

Yeah, this is not a show that you can watch a few episode of and get... in general, it seems pretty notable for having many storylines spanning multiple episodes. I remember that when the power of fascism was growing to its highest, we had a week off school and I missed an episode (it was on a channel that we didn't have at home). Next week, the good guys were fugitive. I was so curious to know what had happened in between those episodes!
I did later watch the entire show on UA-cam, with my family. I'd highly recommend it. :)

The show is about dutchculture history and polotics. The crow is defently hitler/nazi. Even the writer said so. That main crow is calles dolf(very close to adolf).
The main story deals with different problems that happend in sociaty. And was focussed on Young childeren. Like 4-8 years i beleive. The show wasnt affraid to show he bad side of dutch history. Including the nazies who took over. And show that some dutch people sided with the nazis. But the nazi part is only a few episode and not the main plot.

89 was a different time, they just about got away with it, hidden under the masses of 'boy' cartoons, like Transformers, he-man, thundercats, etc! They only had Dolf's Crow Party in full force for about 3 episodes. Then he'd make breif appearance's throughout the rest of the series.

Yeah Alfred the Duck was aired in my country around 93 and at that time I didn't know what fascism is or who Hitler was so I definitely didn't draw parallel. 😀 But those soldier episodes were the best. As a white person, I'm not being offended by it the slightest and since the world got fakk'd since, I honestly think that a cartoon like it would not be aired today. 😀👎
