Thank you all for watching & commenting! You are all very much appreciated. We sealed the entire elbows because it was falling apart and it is only temporary. Better safe than sorry! The duct specialist I picked up parts from recomended 26 guage double wall but I will confirm with the manufacturer to confim as im hearing mixed opinions. Leave a comment if you know what should be here. Follow me on Instagram @JumpRmantech. Stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️

I heard if you wrap painters tape around the duct it would make the mastic look cleaner

Make sure you start up your combustion analyser outside. The carbon monoxide auto zeros on start up so if you start it up in the mechanical room you may have CO but a reading of 0.
It’s definitely not good for that pipe to have such large holes. 30 gauge is a thin but I would also suggest looking for possible causes of the corrosion. Typically it’s somehow related to condensation of the flue gases. Water inlet temperature could be too cold or an exhaust fan could be running pulling in flue gases for example.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the flue piping not being sealed. The heat of the gases causes them to rise quickly and should actually place the flue in a negative pressure. Your combustion analyser should have a draft reading you can use to verify this. Sealing them can possibly cause too much of a draft although your draft hoods are meant to prevent this. Just a few things to look into and consider.
As far as double wall goes, which is often called B vent, it’s usually used to give you a smaller clearance to combustibles. B vent must have 1 inch clearance but single wall needs 18 inches.
Appreciate your videos! Not too many fellow commercial techs on UA-cam.

All that should be a minimum of 26-22 GA
as long as your in a Mech Rm single is acceptable as long as you use 24 GA or heavyr

You have to be careful. Any running boiler will let co back from that common plenum. Hopefully you were working with all boilers that feed that plenum off

my guess would be since its single wall and due to the temperature difference between the hot exaust gas and cold basement in combination with exaust gasses being corrosive it was the perfect storm for this

The issue I see is condensation.. either because low flue temps. Or because the room is not conditioned. As long as the installers follow the factory specs. for the flue pipe,, then there’s no room to complain. Now, the silver tape thing is completely unacceptable and the tech should be fired. The double wall should help though. Usually, when the heaters exhaust are manifolded, there’s an external exhaust motor/barometric system.
