    It looked like it was a new customer for you. You will get burnt sooner or later doing that “free recharge” for new customers. Now, existing customers with a long relationship with me, sure I’ll do that. The same reason I don’t do free estimates or weekend service calls for new customers. Your question should always be. Why aren’t they calling the guy who put that new American Standard unit in or did their last service. Like a divorcee, there is a reason.

      You’re right about that. What I do if I feel good I’ll charge them the service call and the Freon in advance and when I comeback to replace the unit I’ll deduct the fees then

      Haha. He’s saying a free charge but I do the same thing a lot of times. It helps me to keep that customer comfortable so hopefully they won’t call anyone else to see if they can do a replacement sooner and I’ve lost that changeout. I’d rather risk a little refrigerant to get the changeout instead of an uncomfortable client calling another company to see if they can get to them sooner. Just saying. I think this is a good idea. Another good video. Keep up the hard work. 👍🏼

    Sometimes the leak is at the Schrader valve.

    • @Balticblue93
      @Balticblue93 24 дні тому

      Quite often it is the valve core and no seals on the caps. I always start there when leak testing. I replace the valve cores and caps on every system I have to recharge or top off.

    • @Balticblue93
      @Balticblue93 23 дні тому

      @@gregpewtress2952 Not hardly, try living in Colorado and tell me that nonsense. It’s very common but most techs are too stupid to find a leak, they just sell a fix they think will work for big commissions or a full change-out because all they care about is their own wallet. Most R22 systems leak from there. Half the time, the systems don’t even have caps on the ports. It isn’t hard to find leaks to repair. But I am the owner and a tech, my guys can’t pull that crap with me. But I do pay well for them to be thorough. It’s part of every PM. I don’t mind upselling, if it’s truly needed. But we test, not guess. Half the time, we are fixing some else’s problems. Good for us, bad for the customers. I love being the second or third opinion. I get the repair or replacement a majority of the time. I take the time to explain things to the customers and I don’t mind helicopter clients. Men are naturally curious, if they are inclined. But I explain to them not to mess with things they aren’t trained on. Customer service and a good rapport is the key to success. Check the schrader valves for leaks anytime a system is low. You will be surprised.

      And then you’re out $160-$250 for 2 pounds of refrigerant. They can pay me to top it off if it’s a new customer, like in his case.
      New customers are notorious for getting the “free recharge”, having you get the equipment delivered, then canceling the changeout, because they found someone cheaper or suddenly don’t have the money or they’re nice and cool so why should they change it out now.

    Might as well create a new refrigerant that can’t be properly disposed of by dumping MO99 or whatever that was on top of R22, right? I remember when you first started making videos I thought they were the best hvac videos on UA-cam. That was before you started pushing products for the companies that pay you to do so. Don’t get me wrong I love Fieldpiece and own thousands of dollars worth of their tools. RLS on the other hand, I’ll stick to flowing nitrogen and brazing before I ever waste my money on an overpriced press tool or fitting. Still enjoy your videos, but could do without the advertising.

I’ve been burned several times buying tools that don’t last or just flat out don’t work. I don’t see where these guys get the time to setup a camera and film their work. I have way too many calls and installs during the summer to spend time filming and editing. I’m glad there are guys that do it though because I find it entertaining and sometimes I even learn a thing or two.
