  • We spend a while being boat bums in Bequia, anchored in the protected Port Elizabeth Bay, drinking in the laid back island life but as always getting a few boat chores done.

Ben you are so lucky to have a Wife that’s beautiful, can cook and isn’t afraid to work her ass off ! You better be very nice to her because you will not get another like her in a million years. I’m 49 been married 18 years to the same kind of woman and I’m the luckiest man in the world ! Im a former Sailor US Navy 89-95 USS Ranger CV-61 F-14 squadron Wolfpack we shared the same hanger as Topgun and we were the nighttime strike carrier during Desert Storm. Your channel is the best of all the sailing channels hands down. When we retire we want to get a Hunter 42 and sail the Carribean and Mediterranean as well. Ive never had a sailboat and have so much to learn so you guys teach me so much thank you ! God bless....

Stumbled across your video blog by accident the other day and have been addicted ever since. First of all what a great couple you appear to be! Second love the content. There is something for everyone... sailing, sight seeing, maintenance and technical bits, passage planning, messing around etc...good luck on your trip and keep up with the posts please.

All episodes very much appreciated. Also love the fact that you two talk about the cost of things, like checking in and groceries. That's expensive, but I suppose the locals are paying too, those who can afford to shop. Probably a lot of garden grown veg & fruit, and local fish in their diet. Different life to the UK, where we eat South African oranges and New Zealand butter.

ted renard absolutely, I think a lot of locals grow their own fresh produce but the dry goods are still expensive for them. We're very spoilt in the UK with both variety and cheap food...but local is always best no matter the cost 😊

Great channel, I've just watched your 3 latest vids and now I'll do what I always does when I "fall in love" with new sailors: go back and watch you from the beginning.
    You got a new subscriber.

another great vlog guys keep up the good work!
hanging your rain catcher using the shrouds on the mizzen mast, and under the main boom to the mast in the front center of the rain catcher as the lowest point with the sides above to the main mast shrouds keeps the awning taut even in strong winds when at anchor, then hang a bucket with a skinfitting and hose plumbed in at the Vee formed by the rain catcher just below the boom kicker, works better than skin fittings in the awning as no matter how fast the bucket fills all runoff water is collected.
stocking up in trinidad will save loads of money for tinned stuff, dry goods, sauces etc which are locally produced there, trini is the cheapest in the eastern carib, untill you get to columbia.flour rice, lentils etc decant into tupperware containers with bay leaves inside this will stop the weavils that might be present.

Love your work guys. Perfect view of cruising lifestyle - you give us the highs & lows in equal measure without the hype and you manage to stay authentic. Pls don’t fall into trap of SLV (used to love them but they have lost the plot) and pls continue the path you’re on with your genuine experiences & insights - everything from how to fix a a bilge pump through to how to enjoy a sunset set cocktail on SV Bora Bora!

AC8232 Not trying to disagree with you but it disturbs me when sv bora bora talk about not having enough money to buy proper food. They need more patrons and most sailing video viewers are not old salts but people looking for some escapist entertainment after a long day at work. Just trying to help them make progress in the survival game. Respect.

Its always nice to see your videos -- thanks for posting them! I sailed to Bequia almost 25 years ago and had a pleasant, albeit short, visit. Not surprisingly, provisioning anywhere in the Grenadines is expensive, but it's hard to resist milk, butter, and fresh veggies. Continued good luck!

Nice video. Good to see you use subtitles when some audio scrambled. Maybe think about why Elayna from SLV makes such engaging videos. She started off doing them as updates to her mum and family so they were intimate, friendly and explained everything in simple terms, very 'G' rated as well. She's retained that style and built on it and it seems to appeal to a very wide audience. Maybe think about who you want as an audience and build a style around that .. just a suggestion. Plain guitar music seems to always work well as background in sailing videos.

Brilliant. So enjoyable to watch, and share your experiences. I particularly like the cooking segments and the interior living shots. I’m super impressed with Nick’s knowledge and passion for food, and then there’s Ben mechanical ballsiness and passion for innovation. I repeat watch your videos more than most others. Thanks for doing this.

Another suggestion to help money go farther and keep up good health: There is a book titled "Diet For a Small Planet" It is a vegetarian cookbook that explains the way to combine vegetarian components to proved complete protein. Meat protein is very expensive as there is a 90% energy loss when the plant matter eaten by the animal is converted to meat - i.e. A beef cow will eat ten servings of grain that could feed ten humans in order to produce one serving of beef. This accounts for the much greater expense of eating meat. thus eating plant based foods is more efficient and less expensive, and in many cases easier to store for long periods. However it is necessary to combine plant foods properly to get the complete range of essential amino acids (the building blocks for protein). For example a person may get their protein from peanut butter. However, peanut butter is low in one of the essential amino acids needed to build protein in the body. So you will get protein but most of the peanut butter will be unused by the body as the profile of amino acids is short on one of the essential amino acids. The solution is to find another plant component that is high in the amino acid that is low in peanut butter. Many people in third world countries have unknowingly developed diets utilizing complementary components that create a "complete" protein. Beans and rice are an example. Who hasn't eaten a bean and rice burrito. When eating complementary proteins one feels full and satisfied after the meal instead of having to eat more or go for a candy bar to fill the gap. Other aspects that the book explains are absorbabilty and utilization. For instance, one of the best complete proteins is eggs. They are almost completely absorbed, and contain an almost perfect matching amino acid profile to the one needed by the human body (for boating, with the idea of longer term storage, one may need to buy powdered eggs - camping stores might be a source). Milk protein, on the other hand, though having a decent matching amino acid profile, is poorly absorbed so only about 4% of the protein is used (though it might be a necessary source of calcium - however there are vitamin supplement liquids containing calcium, magnesium, vit D3 and zinc, that are very good at supplying these nutrients - very helpful if one has trouble sleeping, or is constipated).

Just wondering what cooking oil you are using. Two of the best are ghee (clarified butter) and coconut oil. If you don't like the flavor of coconut then you can get the nno-virgin oil, which is from the second pressing. Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides, which are readily metabolized to give energy, and does not have the issue of creating dangerous free radicals in the body that attack tissues, as do long chain oils, like safflower, corn, canola, etc. Not only that but it will never go rancid, even if left unopened for months at a time. I believe the same is true for ghee (but might have to check that). In Ayurvedic medicine, old ghee is considered to be one of the most healthful things to eat, from a medicinal standpoint. If you can't find ghee, you can make your own by heating butter until the water boils off (butter is about 20% water), and then straining it through a fine mesh filter to remove the heavy butter solids that are the "bad" part of butter that increases health problems. Ghee can be found in Indian food markets, and since Indian people are all over the world, it should be readily available in most places. I have found that some Indian stores have many foods and spices much cheaper than regular markets. If you are in an area in the tropics where butter is very expensive, then coconut oil may be very inexpensive as the trees are native to the areas.

Welcome to the Caribbean food prices 2 - 3 times more expensive than Europe, obviously majority imported and poorer quality. Post Irma on SXM good tomatoes was and remains 23 USD a kilo. Prawns/Shrimp 45 USD a kilo and mussels 25 USD a kilo, not all pina colada's and palm trees is it? Bag of chicken feet always a bargain to be found :- ) Thumbs up guys
