      Oh my god, he must be heartbroken. I knew an op at Wicked Twister that was destroyed when that closed, and this ride was taken much more suddenly, and he seemed like he was very connected to Blue Streak, I hope he’s doing ok.

    In the late 70s Conneaut Lake Park had a ride called the Mindbender. It was essentially a scrambler set up indoors with strobe lights, black lights, huge mirrors, and loud music. It was AWESOME!!! very innovative.

    I don't know if I'm more stricken with grief or just plain angry of how this story ended. This coaster was really on it's way park -- as was the whole park -- and I'm sure you guys saw that. I wish more people knew it's capabilities rather than just judging it from a few rides a decade ago. This truly was one of the greats that can never be replicated since it's war wounds are part of why it was so special.

      For me it's pure rage, felt the same way about Big Dipper (and still do), I wish the worst things on those involved in it's demolition, including death.

      @@AceAviations2 Geauga Lake was just as painful but that scenario was more stupidity than it was evil. Todd Joseph is just pure evil and one of the worst types of human beings. Believe me, my rage is constant as well but my love for Blue Streak and desire to ride it again is about as strong as that rage.

    • @bobkmertz
      @bobkmertz 3 роки тому +5

      @Spike S It's a lot more involved than can be explained in a UA-cam comment. Basically the ride was being restored and the park was actually making a profit.... Covid hit and someone came and made an offer on the park with a very false narrative. Todd Joseph, a slum lord from Philly, took over the park and just destroyed everything despite tons of opposition. The events this week was him just destroying the coaster -- and it seems there were even issues with permits and stuff.... He basically did it very quick so as to make the coaster unrecoverable. If you're around for a bit I'm on a podcast in which we'll be going live in about an hour and this will be the main topic if you want to hear more. Search for Coaster Talk Podcast here on UA-cam if you're interested.

    This was my first big coaster in 2002, when I was 6 1/2 years old! My extended family used to go to Conneaut almost yearly growing up, and we would all take over the train on Blue Streak! I'll never forget sitting in the front when the tunnel was completely dark! I was hoping to go out there within the next couple of years to get one more ride, but looks like I won't be able to! I'll never forget the memories! I also remember when they were running with the original Ed Vettel trains! One time the train was freshly repainted, and my Dad got yellow paint from the fixed bar on his hands! 😂

    I remember a pre-season at CLP/CLH. I went to help clean up with a group of volunteers, would have been March/April 2002/2003. We were painting the structure of the coaster, tidied up paints around the carousel, and when it started to sleet, we got free Hot Cocoa and a tour of the Hotel complete with ghost stories. So sad to see it end this way.

    On their Facebook page it says damage to the ride was not caused from the fire. They were tearing the ride down and had permits to burn the wood as they ripped the ride down. Equipment failed and they fire unexpectedly spread. All the news is wrong and says it caught fire so they tore it down the same day. Sounds like the pos owner is broke and decided to bulldoze the park. Sad another park turned into expensive condos. Another thing that gets under my skin is all the locals being interviewed. “They don’t utilize that land, should put in some walking trails or an amphitheater to bring in more people.” Lady, we have exactly that in my town and the only thing it brings in is graffiti artist and vandals. Not people who want to buy junk from your store.

  • @slim9559
    @slim9559 3 роки тому

    Just a few facts:
    The coater did not burn down.
    While the coaster was being torn down, the fire from the burning rubble spread to the loading/ breaking pavilion of the ride.
    The fire was extinguished before it reached the track that was still standing.
    As of today (01/12/2022) about half of the track & frame is still standing, scheduled to be torn down as soon as weather permits.
    There was nothing illegal about the tearing down of the blue streak.
    The correct permits had been attained beforehand.
    It is very sad to see the coaster gone, however, it was in bad shape & it would have taken a huge monetary investment to make it viable again.
    On a positive note:
    Todd Joseph (Owner of the park) did donate one of the original Vettel cars & pieces of the track & frame from the ride to the Conneaut Lake Historical Museum.
    The Vettel cars haven’t been used since the ‘60s, they have been in storage at the park.
    The museum will be putting together a very nice interactive display with the donated items.
    Unfortunately, nothing can replace the blue streak, but the owner of the park has made an effort to insure that future generations will at least be able to able to see, touch & enjoy some pieces of its history.

  • @medea27
    @medea27 3 роки тому +1

    I'm shocked, saddened, enraged but not entirely surprised at this news.... the US is appalling at implementing building regs to protect heritage structures. In other western countries, a 130-year-old recreation park with an 84-year-old _functioning_ coaster would be heritage protected in a heartbeat... and the more I read about Conneaut Lake Park the sadder I feel that it's been completely let down. It was left _in the public trust_ yet it was still sold off to a shady developer, without so much as a single stipulation about preservation of the park. _The public & community owned that park_ & it should have been preserved for the public's use. RIP Blue Streak 🎢🤍
