CHARLES! THIS IS MY FAVORITE EPISODE!!!! THANK YOU! I live in NYC and one of the places i still love to visit is NYC Chinatown. To this day i go there. Sadly because of the pandemic lots of my favorite stores closed and its definitely getting worse. I still love the area though. I probably go there twice a month to eat at their great restaurants. Now back in the 70s around 74, 75, 76 77, 78 and 79... That was the place to be to get Bruce lee magazines , weaponry, kung fu wear ( especially my chinese kung fu slip ons. My brother and i called them chinese shoes ). Man Bruce Lee definitely made me a fan of Chinatown. One thing i do remember when visiting Chinatown was that billboard with the way of the dragon artwork. It was awesome to see that everytime i would visit.....i knew i was in Chinatown when i saw that billboard. Then as i got older the billboard suddenly vanished. I was sad to see it go...but worse i didn't remember the exact location where it stood. This bothered me for many years. When i would tell my kids about it they tell me that the internet should have an old photo of it somewhere. After countless Google searching i came up with nothing. Even started to think if i imagined the whole thing. When you get older, Proof is everything nowadays especially with fake news everywhere lurking about. After i saw this video i was delighted and ecstatic! I finally could show my sons what i saw was legit. I'm so glad you made this video. Not only was the video so informative with the various locations you took us but the trip to memory lane was the best part. The magazines, the shops , your friends stories....all exciting! I would like to thank you and your friends from the bottom of my heart for this video. It definitely made my day going to work this morning. Keep up the great work. Always a fan of yours and i hope to meet you in person to actual thank you for this and this channel personally.

Charles Damiano my mom introduced me to Bruce as a kid. She is a big fan of his. She had posters of him all over. His inspiration led me to take up martial arts and become Muay Thai national champion and full contact Kung fu world champion. I now own a successful mma/kickboxing/boxing gym in Brooklyn NY with local and international champions in these disciplines. So yes, I remember that martial arts store on Canal Streer with the picture of Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris up above. I used to shop there

I got my new home on Bruces 80th. I still haven't moved in yet as workmen are finishing off but i'm so happy i got the acceptance call on his 80th birthday. I'd love to dedicate the front room to chinese things with an amazing picture of Bruce.

This was a breath of fresh air. So many memories. I used to order so much from Bok Lei Tat. As a kid in the early to mid 70's I stumbled upon an ad of theirs. Wrote to them and ordered their catalog. I spent hours looking at all the kung fu weaponry. I even carried that catalog around with me. I regret never visiting there when I became old enough to travel. Sad that they are gone.

@@CharlesDamianoBLC Hi, ..I grew up in Baltimore Md. I first saw Bruce Lee as Kato. I was roughly eight years old. My interest was piqued from day one. How ever, I didn't start training in martial arts until I was about twelve. As a kid I used to cut grass in the summer, rake leaves in the fall and shovel snow in the winter. All so I could feed my interest in Bruce Lee and Kung Fu. Posters galore. Books, 8"x10" photos, kung fu uniforms. Anything I could get my hands on. I still have almost everything. Some things have been lost. Like those flip books you showed. After all these years of holding on to everything, I recently gave a few items away. My sister lost her husband, due to an illness a few years ago. It was a major blow to my nephew as they were very close. They were in town visiting a few weeks ago and she told me that he had become very interested in Bruce Lee. Knowing how much Bruce Lee meant to me, I knew what I wanted to do. When the poster magazine, Kung Fu Monthly came out. I always bought multiples. One for hanging and a couple for collecting. I gave them to my nephew and he was delighted. Just wanted to share some of the joy I always felt.

How "LUCKY" were we to have grown up at such an amazing time in New York City?! While the Bronx was burning around me, I never really noticed it until I look back at old videos of N.Y. back then. Actually, while we were taping at the store we mentioned that you were going to enjoy the “Four Seas Weekly” segment as you had shown interest to us before so we did it thinking of you! Glad you enjoyed it bro’ and another thing I didn’t mention that I got the Fist of Fury issue through you on the segment as I should have asked you permission to use your name but once again thanks for looking out. This was the toughest episode to do as we bounced around Chinatown with camera equipment and collectables and at the end exhaustion hit but so glad everyone has accepted this “labor of Bruce Lee love!” 🙏🌟🙏🌟

Maybe Hector can bring his event program to the actual site, possibly go inside and show where the stage was, where Bruce Lee did his demonstration in the boxing ring. Ive been to that store for years in NY chinatown! Very cool video to see you guys outside! MA stores arent even found anymore..everything is online. In good fun..Hector has balls to wear the kung fu outfit...id feel like someone would want to pick a fight and test me if I were to walk the streets with that! Lol
We did get a few stares from so of the local so I understand what you mean! Back in the day we would have been killed wearing Kung Fu uniforms by the Chinese gangs there at the time!

I two for u I wonder do u remember a store in the Bronx near the number 4 train on Fordham Rd cuz they also had good BL memorabilia cuz I still have a BL book about teaching u how to use the nunchucks that I still have to this day. Also Charles of this is a lie please forgive me cuz someone told me this. In the film ETD the scene with BL fighting OHara the scene where BL jumped in the air then u see his face yelling. Now the person told me which I know he’s lying say that scene u see BL feet crushing OHara chest then u see BL face yelling. I just wanted to tell u that and again Charles u are great and always keep up the work and I’m still watching and buying what I can find

this was beautiful, although I dont recall big poster displays at the sun sing, I remember as a kid getting off the number 6 train and walking east with anticipation towards the ROSEMARY theatre because they were the only theatre that displayed movies like in hong kong with big poster displays on the roof of the theatre only to find out years later that it was not a hong kong theatre it was a theatre that played mainland china movies,I saw an uncut version of WAY OF THE DRAGON at the MUSIC PALACE in 1986, I saw the film FROM CHINA WITH DEATH aka WIT TO WITS at the SUN SING in chinese, alot of HENRY YU YOUNG movies played there,like FIST TO FIST aka FIST OF THE DOUBLE K in 1974 the summer,,,,THE QUEEN BOXER aka the avenger that was winter of 75,at the time I didnt know anything about marketing films to the west,I was a young teenager but i alway studied posters especially the chinese films, there was a theatre on canal st west of the number 6 train, I think it was called THE CANAL it was between the number 6 train stop on canal and broadway west but this theatre had alot of chinese gang activity so I stayed away I think they showed sex films there, and then there is the POGODA on east broadway that showed alot of GOLDEN HARVEST FILMS there,there was gang activity in there too, but not like the CANAL MOVIE HOUSE ,,, you see as a black person going down there in those days you had to be careful going into these places,this is what I did,, I would pay my admission and MY ANTENNAS would go up to full blast ,if I sensed the slightest bit of hostility from anybody,,I was in the wind,,but I didnt have to face much, thank god because I always carried myself like a gentleman even at 13 and 14 years of age thats why I didnt have a whole lot of friends, because they were out doing rebellious shit ,and I was always trying to find out, what was south of 96 st, I always knew when to be polite,now the books stores that you guys mention I been to all of them,,,and sometimes you cant control everything, sometimes you could feel there racism,,but I would still do my thing with 1000 eyes watching me to see if I was going to steal anything, because thats how they thought at that time, even in the restaurants when you ordered food, there would be an awkwardness,, like you know about chinese food in chinese, I mean they served you, that wasnt bad but the book stores with the old chinese men that would be security to anybody coming in that look like they didnt belong, that was a trip,, i got to know some of the old chinese men,they gotta kick out of that fact I knew all the chinese movie actors names in chinese, the same thing with the 666 restaurant,I made friends with all the waiters there, there was a dish I would always order in chinese,,,,WAH DUN NAW YO FAN,,,,,beef eggs and rice,,,,,my conversational chinese , this is were it all started for me, but over the years it has went down cause I dont use it as much anymore,,,, that life!!!!!!,,,,,,but watching this video brought back alot of memories for me, this is my point of view,,,,, and also there was a building on mott st and east broadway THE JOURNAL newspaper,its a red brick building, I also solicited this place for newspaper articles on bruce lee, it wasnt until 1985 that somebody called me from there office and told me about a newspaper article remembering bruce lee 13 years after his death from hong kong ,I still have this page, , alot of these chinese men and the waiters have all passed on, but its always good to reminisce about the good old days,,,,thank you HECTOR CHARLES and SPIDER I enjoyed this video. it sparked me to write this.........PEACE AND WALK ON BROTHERS... THIS IS THE REAL DEAL

James Lawrence My brother, you know I have mad respect for you. In some ways you remind me a lot about myself, I’m a very emotional person and I hold my memories of growing up deep in my soul. I respect the way you break down in detail your experiences (both good and bad) growing up in our great city and in Chinatown. This is why at almost 60 years old Charles and I have teamed up to do this type of thing, it helps to bring back those times of scouting Chinatown for Bruce Lee merchandise, visiting the movie theaters and enjoying the cuisine. I’m so glad we were able to touch a memory or two for you as this is the whole purpose of this program. I’ve known you for years my brother and I respect the fact that you are one of the few “real brothers.” God bless! 🙏

But I frequented 42nd St. and I have copies of newspaper ads of some of the Theaters you guys showed. As I am somewhat of a collector myself. No JKD schools in Manhattan that I know of but NY Martial Art Academy in Queens is a great JKD school. I know the owner Dino Orfanos who studies with Ted Wong fir over 25 years!

Wonderful episode guys seeing some pf your old haunts. Sadly, most of the shops and theaters I used to visit are long gone building and all. This reminds me of the story Hector told of him seeing a guy getting beaten up and him thinking the magazine he was looking at would protect him. Nice selection of 4 seas, wish I had some of those. Mr Martinez and Mr Charles,, I will like to find the family members of Mr Lee Hoi chuen Brother,, Bruce Lee father had a brother and he had a family also, so in NYC Chinatown there is family members that are Bruce Lee second cousins and Third cousins,, and they live in NYC Chinatown Mahattan next to Brooklyn bridge I tried googling but it doesn't look for the right information can you help me guy's please 🙏, I have a daughter that she is a family member of the Lee Hoi chuen brother family,, I am Puerto Rican and her father is Chinese and he is second cousin of master Bruce Lee,, he's name is Willie Lee that's the name that he gave me,in 1970 and in 1975 My daughter was born.

The local 6 train goes to Canal Street in Chinatown. Get off on the “Canal Street” stop and you’ll be in the center of Chinatown.
