After watching dozens of reviews about kestrel I came across your video and it convinced me to take zulu. You deserve more subscribers man ! Thank you !
In regards to your observation that there is too much fabric in the lid making it "untidy" that is because it is empty. As you yourself said a rain jacket or in my case since I use this pack in the winter snowshoeing / hiking it is the perfect pocket for a puffy jacket. This is the only external secure pocket on this pack and that means I put all kinds of stuff in there I can keep handy without having to open the main body of the pack all day long.
I have that Kestrel, I like that top lid because I can fit my first aid kit and Steripen to sterilize water within easy reach. Also on the bottom/internal part, I can put my passport or wallet, medication, etc. that I don't want to fall out or get stolen, or wet. That will fill up that nicely the lid and give you quick access. Also, the pad strap at the bottom is a must for even an overnighter to leave more room inside these smallish backpacks. But you can't go wrong with that Gregory pack. I am a fan of them, they tend to be a little lighter.
I'm sold for the zulu. Have many backpacks from 20 to 100+. I needed to feel the gap of a 40l overnight back pack. This one is my choice. Can't wait to test it
Excellent review and comparison on packs that that I love. I’m still using my Gregory’s from 1997 along with my Dana Designs packs. They just keep going and going. But it’s time to update. Thanks for the reviews. I just subscribed. 👍
I think you could compare Zulu vs Stratos - they both have ventilated back system so such comparison would be more interesting because you'd compare similar competitors
Yes I was going to change to the Stratos so went to the shop and weighed it. I don’t think many of the Osprey pack weights are correct. My Atmos 50 was the only one which was correct.
Brilliant video. The Kestrel looked like it had more spare space than the Zulu though. You’ve convinced me not to get the Kestrel unfortunately but I’m glad you did. I’ve got the 58, love the pack, loathe the brain. It just doesn’t work. It’s huge, and is just all over the place. I was hoping that as they went smaller that wouldn’t still be an issue, you’re the only one I’ve seen mention it. Is the back different to the 58. I would have described it as a trampoline style back on the 58. I would be interested now to see the Zulu but I am after more attachable than what the pack is
I had three kestrel 38,48 & 58, none are trampoline back and make you sweaty. For me none of the brains are neat and tidy like the Zulu. I think the Zulu 40 has same capacity as the Kestrel 38. Really enjoying the Zulu 40. I posted another review if you want to look. Thanks
I have an Osprey stratos 50 and a Gregory Zulu 55. Stratos is way much comfortable. I recommend you do a comparison the Gregory Zulu 40 with the Lowe Alpine Airzone Pro 35-45!!
@@evacoutdoors5867 yeah the weight counts. Would be interesting if gergory or deuter includes the attached raincover to the total bag weight. Right now i am looking for the best "weekend warrior" bag that works for single day or 2-3 day trips. I need to test the deuter to see wheter some of its features like those hidden extendable side pouches are worth the weigh difference for me....else i will get the zulu.
Nice presentation but I was abit sad that the camera was abit far we couldn't admire the backpack closer while listening I was like is he going zoom in a little but it didn't happen :(
@@evacoutdoors5867 you're very welcome good presentation love the view but please next time could you get abit closer so we can admire the beauty and the details of the backpack thank you very much
Your explanation is too much confusing!!!! hand was touching Ospray but your mouth spoke …Gregory …..bla. bla bla Not only too much difficult to understand But create misunderstanding
I started watching and got as far as you saying you were reviewing the Gregory "which came yesterday". I stopped there and then. I prefer a review by someone who has tried and tested the kit in the field. I'm not wasting my time watching someone give a rundown on features and benefits of a product without them being able to talk about the comfort, the longevity, how robust the kit is. After you've walked a few hundred miles in all kinds of weather I'd be interested in your opinion then. Sorry to be a tardy bum...

That is a valid point, but with my pack full and gear in the lid It was always a struggle to close over the top.
Agreed. I have my hygiene kit in the lid and fluffs it out just right.
It was a good review. It helped me decide to buy a backpack. It decided to purchase the Zulu 40. Thank you.
Maan.. what you say is so balanced and full of experience. What a gem.
Thanks A lot. Just reviewed the Zulu on another vid if you would like a look. Appreciate the comments.

This is a really useful video, thank you. Those air space backs make a huge difference. Next time find a table to save yourself bending down.

I have 24. Good pack but the 36 weights 1.75 kg.

Hi thanks for the video but all this gear you managed to put in the Zulu 30 already in previous video about the zulu 30 😊

Great review
Very nice comparison. Thanks for this video. Question about the Zulu 40: is it the S / M or M / L version?
The large
@@evacoutdoors5867 Hello
, good review, what is the minimum height of the backpack, if there is nothing in the lid?
Which one the Zulu ?

Now looking at the new Deuter futura pro 40l it seems very similar to the zulu. Maybe a mix of both bags
Looks similar but 300 g heavier!

The Gregory is 1330 g without rain cover
@@evacoutdoors5867 makes sense to weigh it without it
Will the Gregory Zulu 40 fit as hand luggage?
I guess it would depend upon the airline but strictly speaking it’s too long. Just got my Atom on easy jet and that’s 60 cm long.
Nice presentation but I was abit sad that the camera was abit far we couldn't admire the backpack closer while listening I was like is he going zoom in a little but it didn't happen :(
Shut up. The video was perfectly fine.
How tall are you and what size did you choose? S/M or M/L? I really like that Gregory. Thank you
185 cm ml

Can’t believe Gregory Zulu is 40.. looks much smaller and compact
Yes much neater.

I purchased not long ago Gregory zulu55 please can you review it next time

Your review is not clear because your camera's far from you.
Look at all the comments, maybe you need to turn up the volume.
Audio is poor.
Turn it up then. Also who cares?
