0:13 It also has, of all things, a sprinkle of Lego Rock Raiders. I can't remember the exact name off the top of my head at the moment (I haven't touched the game since I 100%ed it) but the bulky one that is unlocked by default (and which you've used for the thumbail) is basically just a big Rock Raider's reference. The chest resembles (okay less resembles more just IS) the cockpit of vehicles like the Chrome Crushed or Large Mobile Laser Cutter, it has the classic Rock Raiders color scheme, and IIRC it also has some references in its flavor text.
Looking at @duckpondanimations YT channel he actually made his start with Lego stop motion videos. He's actually gathered MILLION of views from them and I'm guessing that's how he got his start up money to make this game, especially since he got those views pre-ad apocalypse, assuming he got his channel monetized around 8 ish years ago (his videos go back to 12 years). Good on him! I wish him the best in his endeavors!
any pc should be able to play 1st to 3rd gen just fine (PCSX2 and PPSSPP surely will need tweaking to lowest graphics and even underclock for stable 30 fps in both)
the problem is that I already play all the AC of the third generation in the PPSSPP which brings a good advantage and that you can use transfer all the saves from armored core 3 to the last raven 🧐 what I want is to play the fourth generation, which I can't unless I have a good graphics card and processor to use the RPCS3 emulator🤯
Never knew this game existed but I'm glad that you were the one to bring it to my attention. It looks so old school but in a good way, The fact that you can kill alien bugs is something that makes me happy because it gives me hardcore starship trooper vibes except what would happen if Rico and his squad were piloting gundams and finally that thank you from the dev REALLY feels all warm and fuzzy. We need more warm and fuzzy feelings like that in the gaming industry but besides that this feels like a very good indie game especially since it was made by one guy.
Thank you for bringing this game to my attention sir. I love Armored Core, been with it since the original, and I love Gundam and mecha in general. So finding out about this was great.
I know a lot of people won't understand this comparison but a lot of aliens reminds of the once from VN call Muv-Luv, from the once that charge at you to the once that shot out a light at you.
It's amazing that gems like these have a platform to be noticed in now! Love the style of your videos btw. The way you overlay the gameplay in the background reminds me of press conferences where high profile AAA games have backgrounds of the gameplay all over, and reporters talk in front of them. Love how even smaller games get to have the same spotlight now.
Wouldn't know about this game without this video. Looks great. Another cool indie sort of armored core game is Project Nimbus, it has pretty similar controls to armored core and even some gundam tropes(the pilot even say FUNNEL when you launch the drone bits) and there's some cool stuff like cockpit view(if you can play without getting motion sickness) and even transformation for some units.
@@JarboeGaming There are 2 games under that name, the OG Project Nimbus and Project Nimbus: Infinity that's basically still in early access. I suggest you get the OG first since it's done and has received overhauls to the graphics.
I remember coming across demo/beta of this back on Itch a few months before its official Steam release. I honestly love what was on offer with GearBits. It's basically less like Armored Core and more like Muv-Luv (with how giant alien bugs are invading human colonies) and Ace Combat (with its more traditional story focused approach and mission based gameplay). It's a really good game for its price. My loadout often was the Heavy Cannon (big AOE for swarms), Drum Gun (high capacity suppression), and Charge Laser (practically guaranteed instant death and penetration). This pretty much carried me through all the missions until I unlocked the hidden special mech.
I'm gonna look into this game for sure. I was so disappointed in AC6, it was not what I wanted in an Armored Core game. I played the hell out of AC1-3 back in the day!
When I saw the Gameplay I didn't hesitate for a second to go to the steam page and put it on my Wishlist. The world needs more AC or Gundam inspired games.
This video wasn't in my feed for some reason but so happy a friend told me you uploaded. This game looks great definitely gonna try to snag it when I can.
The thing I look most forward to in any mecha game is visual customization. Gundam Breakers lets you mix-and-match parts as if you are making your own Gunpla. Armored Core has a good amount of it. And M.A.S.S. Builder is like a 3D art program with how much you can visually customize mechs, and even weapons. In fact, I would like to see some more attention being brought to MASS Builder. Not only is it fun to create mechs and weapons, but it is also fun to play. The game is still in early access, but its coming along quite well, with promising updates and progress being shown frequently.
This is the kind of game that I would happily pay extra for voice acted dialogue in a vein similar to Ace Combat / Project Wingman, just for that extra atmosphere.
the description in the first 18 seconds was sounding like robotech battlecry also, the animated actor sprites are very 2010s newgrounds and that makes me smile
Holy crap, I need to pick this up. Last time I saw a small indie game under ten dollars recommended to me by a youtube video with relatively little engagement like this, I found what's currently my favorite game of all time (Psuedoregalia- a 32/64 bit era styled 3d platformer with the tightest controls I've ever seen). This gives me those same vibes. I think this might be something really special.
Thanks for letting me know this game exists, as a person who finished the first armored core for ps1 I'm interested in this game and everything it offers :D
If they were to add Co Op and create a mission share system shareable across the community, I could guarantee plenty of sales, especially at this price tag.
Looks like my already busy gaming week, got more busier. I've actually just bought Gearbits alongside Metaphor today. Thanks to bringing this to my attention!
Saw 5 seconds of the video gameplay and decided to give a shot, holy fuck, what an amazing game! The gameplay feels so goddamn good, what a gem, I love it, thanks for this video!
Looks interesting, and coming from a one-man development team this looks damn impressive, might have to buy it even though I don't play a lot of games nowadays.
Yooooo, the first gen ac games are amazing, I'll try this for sure! I can see why nobody talked about this game tho, it has the presentation of a flash game. One of the best part of og armored core was his atmosphere, that's half of the charm

This is the type of stuff I really wished got more publicity, the mech ganre is severely lacking in games. I know its tough for a solo dev, but I'd love to get my friends into a game like this in multiplayer... Here's to wish plenty morefun mech action from the dev!
This game looks amazing - like the game I'd been hoping for since back when Armored Core 6 was just a distant fantasy. Can't believe I haven't heard of it. I immediately turned around to throw my money at it.

Looks like everything I want out of Armored Core without the things I can't stand about Armored Core plus some of the things I love about MechWarrior. I'll check it out.
If you want to consider another indie mech game made by a solo dev, you should also try Mecha Knights: Nightmare. It's a little cruder than this one with relatively simple gameplay (go to location, kill horde of enemies that run straight at you/objective), but it has a very 'arcade' feel to it. It even comes complete with a plot and voice acting straight out of a 90's action movie (it's predictable, and gloriously cheesy). Overall, it's a fun romp with a lot of very big guns and a fair amount of customization for the mech itself.
This sounds like everything I enjoy in gameplay style and wish we would get from official Gundam games again. The only thing that can top this for me would be a FromSoft UC Gundam game with AC style customization. Hopefully this can be released on Switch someday because I dont have a PC setup to game well.
