I personally think that had MC not backed down, Ryder would have stuck by CJ faking their friendship to a much further extent in the game up until he felt he was ready to backstab him and join Smoke at his side. this topic is highly debatable due to the amount of loyalty Ryder hints all throughout the first quarter of the game.

There were quite a few hints earlier in the game on Smoke's betrayal. I had my suspicions on Smoke living in the heart of Idlewood (Ballas turf)... wondering why he moved away from GSF, but then afterwards I didn't think much of it....till my brother mentioned that he was indeed a traitor! Kind of was hoping that Ryder wouldn't betray the group (I read somewhere that originally he wasn't supposed to betray them but they couldn't come up with some storylines for him), even though he pissed off CJ at times but he was ok till Pier 69!
The Ryder isn't supposed to be a traitor is true. The voice actor of Ryder has to left the contract (i really don't know for sure, but it is says that he has some conflict). Beside, it makes sense that Ryder isn't a traitor. His mission is indeed helping Grove Street (rather than Big Smoke missions). So yeah, actually it makes sense that Ryder didn't say a word while in pier 69. And yeah, on the script of The Green Sabre, that's why Ryder didn't get mentioned, because it's out of script.
Sometimes I doubt Hernandez’s piss break in that cut scene. I feel like he was either communicating and reporting to another officer about what Tenpenny and Pulaski were doing, taking down notes, or had a secret voice recorder recording of what they’re saying, which led to his death later in the game.
I think you're on the right track, but I doubt Hernandez would go that far. More likely, he was uncomfortable with the entire situation and so he deliberately found a reason to extract himself from it.

Wow! Knowing that Big Smoke and Ryder betrayed CJ came as a real shock to me. I never knew about this since I never got past the train mission but when I came to know it hurt me a lot since I never noticed the signs and I really liked these fools.

Junkies are always willing to do anything amd everything to support their drug habit even if it means selling out their family and friends, and if you pay attention to the story, you'll notice that all of Ryders missions have to do with obtaining weapons and munition crates, and goods, and none of it was for The Grove Street! 😅🤣🤦🏾♂

It's how the hood works. There are cats like sweet and CJ who are loyal to friends and family without realizing you can be loyal to people who aren't loyal to you. IT is very big problem just because you like someone or you're related to someone doesn't mean they are a good person. Someone being good to you does not make them a good person dig? Then there are the cats like Ryder and smoke who are only really loyal to themselves. Must heavy drug users care more about their highs than anyone else's life. People like smoke are opportunists. After a while, a good opportunist or drug dealer realizes friendships and relationships are more like investments. Some are worth keeping stock in others times it's better to just sell. these are the cats who cut deals and throw others under the bus. It's as simple as having a good business mindset as opposed to being a good person. The long and short of it is there is no honor amongst thieves. gangs are not going to consist of the most loyal and most stable. The trick is to get out.
