Hey Mike. Thank you for an awesome tutorial - as always! I've a question - I'm having trouble with previewing files. The folders with my samples in are blank, but my samples show when I'm using Ableton. Any advice on how I can maybe fix this?
Fantastic tutorial, Mike! Thank you so much. A quick question. I have been asked a question from a voiceover company that I don't have an answer to. Could you kindly let me know how to do this in Adobe Audition? Question is: "can you record timed to picture/ time synced in your studio?" Will be obliged to get a prompt response, if possible. Hi Mike ... How do you generate Silence. There's a lot of times when I want to 'zero' out breathing and other similar types of noises that occur in every day speech. Thank you & Best Regards, AzNeil

For a videographer that is thinking of doing audio edits in Audition, what would the workflow be... do all cutting and editing of the video in whatever NLE but not anything with the audio, then output the final video in a uncompressed format to then import into Audition to do all audio edits before final delivery? Anything I am missing? thanks.
A lot of what Audition can do can also be achieved in Premiere Pro natively. Alternatively you can use Adobe Dynamic link to work with your video project audio in Audition. One tip I’d share would be to do all the video cuts before linking your audio as any changes to the audio duration made in Audition won’t make the corresponding changes to the video duration.
Hi Mike, I'm keen to sign up for your class series but can not find the link, can you post it here please? I have a question also, I have the audio file from one of my vlogs that I recorded using a Rode NTG4+ and Zoom H6 but there are some loud noises on it (equipment scraping on a table and sound of equipment being put down) that I want to get rid of. I'm trying spectral view and healing but I don't really know what I am doing. 1. is it possible to delete this sound 2. would I learn this type of method on your course? Thanks.
Hi Rich. The courses link is courses.musicradiocreative.com/ Without hearing the audio and how severe it is I can’t say for certain whether it’s recoverable. We do cover noise reduction in the courses but obviously my best tip is to eradicate noise at source before recording. The techniques we cover in the courses can help eradicate noise but if it’s too bad then to remove it you’ll end up degrading the quality of the audio.
@@MikeRussell Hi Mike, thanks for the reply. I suspect It's a case of having to live with it on this occasion. I'll make sure I user a covering on the table next time or just be a lot quieter! Thanks also for the link.
Hey, Mike that was really helpful. I am making a mashup of songs and I would like to add some drumbeat or any beat pattern to the final. Could you suggest where I could get them, preferably free?
I am using Adobe Audition 2019 version. When you said that you applied the effects, I could not see where that apply button was because of the video playing. Can you please tell me how I apply my effects to my audio? Thank you.
To apply effects in Adobe Audition 2019, simply select the desired effect from the Effects Rack and adjust the settings, then click on the "Apply" button located at the bottom of the Effects window. Thank you for watching!
Hi Mike. I too have a Scarlett 2i2 as my audio device and I have an Audio Technica AT2020 microphone. The problem I'm having is that when i record, it only records to the left track. I did everything like you said but for some reason I can't record stereo. Maybe my Audition desktop settings are wrong? Please help!
Thank you Mike, very very helpful. Audition can be a bit intimidating with everything that is going on. I've got a video with a man talking and a door closing in the background as het speaks. Is there a way to lose the slamming door (and click-clack of high heels that also happened to be recorded) without losing his voice? Thank thanks thanks. Great you're helping out like this!
Hi Els, this all depends on how it's mixed. This video shows you how to remove vocals ua-cam.com/video/Dt18fkRq8pc/v-deo.html but you'd want to lower the side channels rather than the centre channel.
Hi Mike, I like your videos. I have some questions: How do I do the voice over for a project according to these requirements but delivering something of good quality? TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 24 bit, 44 kHz, mono, Unprocessed, RAW .wav, -60dB noise floor (or better). Naturally minimized background noise, breaths, and clicks (no plugins). I do not know which are plugins in the Effects panel. I looked at your video about the 5 mistakes but I do not know which steps I can take to improve the quality but still deliver according to tech requirements. Thank you. Kind regards, Veronica
Hi Veronica, thank you for your kind words! To achieve those technical requirements in Adobe Audition without using plugins, ensure to record in a quiet environment, use noise reduction tools like noise print, and gently edit out background noise, breaths, and clicks manually. Aim for a clean, natural sound by focusing on recording quality and subtle editing techniques.
@@MikeRussell Hi Mike, Thank you for your reply. I am working on a big vo project from a customer and they ask for a RAW WAV file without any plugins, nor compression, nor breaths, etc. Each script is about 10-18 pages long which takes me quite a long time to do it manually via Audacity. I am switching to Audition today in order to improve the workflow but I am unsure which are considered plugins since I only see Effects and there is no distinction there. I do not know which are plugins. I also do not know what is considered compression. I usually save after taking out the bg noise, the breaths, the mouth clicks, and normalizing. No compression. I do not know if normalize is considered compression.
Mike! I am in need of your help. After compressing the multiple tracks into one and then exiting Audition, is there any way to recover the multiple track format so I can edit those parts individually? Please let me know as soon as you get this! Thanks!
good video but as a beginner i need more detail like how do u cut that in 16:26, and is it rlly needed to mixdown the entire session to save multitrack audio or u can just save it without mixdown it?
If you’re working with the time selection tool and have a selection made when you press delete the selected audio is deleted. Also, you need to mix down a Multitrack session in order to have a file of the mix. You can only save a session as a .sesx file which contains no audio.
@@MikeRussell I don't have Premiere Pro. I have been given piece of film and a bunch of sound files. The film has rough audio on it, but I need to recreate the audio. Match up good quality vocal tracks and create the sound design.
In that case I would suggest opening the video in Audution and wokring on the audio there. When you're done export as a wav file and import that into the video in your video editing software, muting out the original audio.
Hi there, I really just want to edit my voice recordings for my pod cast. Adobe audition looks quite sophisticated. I really just want to remove/ cut clips. Do you think I am better of using a less sophisticated tool? I am only using the free trial to see whether it will be useful for me
Your DAW is a matter of personal choice. I use Audition as my every day DAW. Certainly Audacity could do what you want to do but Audacity would also come with a learning curve.
To show the volume meter at the top of your audio in Adobe Audition, simply go to the 'View' menu and select 'Show Audio Meters' to display the volume levels during your recording and editing.
Can one actually record in multitrack? Or does one have to record in Wavelength and the import stuff into Multitrack? If so, how would one sync up a separate vocal and other track?
Question: I have a video with an audio where the person repeats words and I have to take them away. I am thinking about improving the sound and changing the file. How can I change one file for another in Adobe Premiere Pro without messing up the video. In other words, how can I hide mistakes made by the speaker but not change the order so as the voice and video are synced? Thank you. Kind regards, Veronica
In Adobe Premiere Pro, you can easily swap out the audio file while keeping the video intact by using the "Replace with Clip" option, ensuring that the voice and video remain perfectly synced.
@@MikeRussell Hi Mike, Thank you for your reply. Where do I find that option? I need to edit the audio of a video because there is voice stutter from the speaker giving the presentation. How do I take away stutter? Thanks
Hi Christina, if you're working on a video in Premiere Pro you can export the audio to Audition and edit it there as a multi track and then save it back to Premiere Pro.
question if you don't mind. which would be better to use. audio interface like a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen) USB or a mixer like Yamaha MG10XU 10 Input (4 XLR) Mixer Board w/ Digital FX. I will be using adobe audition. Thank you in advance. Great tutorial as well.
If you want to record then you'll need a mic. You can get a USB mic for around £100. If however you want to record music then depending on what music you're recording you will need an interface / capture device.

The 2i2 is a two channel interface so in audio channel mapping you need to map the channel you're using to both left and right inputs
Great tutorial! Very helpfu, very informative and very well explained. Thanks a lot for creating this video. You are brilliant!
Thank you 🙏
Mike! I am in need of your help. After compressing the multiple tracks into one and then exiting Audition, is there any way to recover the multiple track format so I can edit those parts individually? Please let me know as soon as you get this! Thanks!
If you've edited in the waveform then these changes become permanent once saved so always best to keep the originals
Do people use this program on A grade movies too? What sound design programs they use on movies?
You'd have to ask production studios what they use but there's no reason they wouldn't be able to use Audition.
Wow! AMAZING! Could you show to record with minus one music?
You mean how to set up a mix minus? That differs depending on your audio set up.
good video but as a beginner i need more detail like how do u cut that in 16:26, and is it rlly needed to mixdown the entire session to save multitrack audio or u can just save it without mixdown it?
If you’re working with the time selection tool and have a selection made when you press delete the selected audio is deleted.
Also, you need to mix down a Multitrack session in order to have a file of the mix. You can only save a session as a .sesx file which contains no audio.
can you loopback audio from your pc to record from whatever is coming out of your soundcard?
Depends on your sound card but you’d need to enable stereo mix on a PC to do this.
This is fantastic, thanks for this review! So helpful!
👍
thank you! brilliantly succinct. 🙌Now I need the same for how to use Audition to do sound for a little video... 😸
In Premiere Pro you can export your audio to be edited in Audition.
@@MikeRussell ok brilliant, thanks!
Thanks! Great tutorial. I was wondering where I can get free sound effects like the ones you used in the video.
You can view our FX library that I use on a day to day basis here mrc.fm/sfx but they're not free.
Why doesn't it have a consalidating option? To make the wav the length of song. So you can work with the files in another daw
You can export any media file from Adobe Audition and open it in another DAW
thanks for the tutorial , this help me so much
👍
Where did you get all the collection of sound effects?
You can grab effects from mrc.fm/sfx
Great video! Clear. Concise. Great flow.
Thank you
Nice Tutorial. Thank you.
Thanks 👍
Hi there, I really just want to edit my voice recordings for my pod cast. Adobe audition looks quite sophisticated. I really just want to remove/ cut clips. Do you think I am better of using a less sophisticated tool? I am only using the free trial to see whether it will be useful for me
Your DAW is a matter of personal choice. I use Audition as my every day DAW. Certainly Audacity could do what you want to do but Audacity would also come with a learning curve.
Wow this video came at the perfect time! I can use so much of the advice here. Thanks you for making this!
Thanks
Also I don't have the volume showing at the top of my audio. How do I get this to show up?
To show the volume meter at the top of your audio in Adobe Audition, simply go to the 'View' menu and select 'Show Audio Meters' to display the volume levels during your recording and editing.
Can one actually record in multitrack? Or does one have to record in Wavelength and the import stuff into Multitrack? If so, how would one sync up a separate vocal and other track?
You can record in multitrack or waveform
Thanks
Great video! So if I want a video, I can add it to the multi-track and clip/edit my video to match music, etc?
Hi Christina, if you're working on a video in Premiere Pro you can export the audio to Audition and edit it there as a multi track and then save it back to Premiere Pro.
Mike Russell ok got it. Thanks!
👌
question if you don't mind. which would be better to use. audio interface like a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen) USB or a mixer like Yamaha MG10XU 10 Input (4 XLR) Mixer Board w/ Digital FX. I will be using adobe audition. Thank you in advance. Great tutorial as well.
You can't beat the 2i2 for the price. Mixer is good if you need more features.
This is so useful! Thank you!
Thanks Caroline.
this was so very helpful... thanks Mike.
Thanks Kevin. Glad it helped
That background is nice with the colors!
Thanks 👍
Recording needs a external mic to avoid buzzing sound from computer and it can record clear vocals, right?
If you want to record then you'll need a mic. You can get a USB mic for around £100. If however you want to record music then depending on what music you're recording you will need an interface / capture device.
