Accuracy Testing 3 Carcanos from Royal Tiger Imports - 40 yard grouping, 100 Yards, and POV

- A lot of people are skeptical about Royal Tiger Imports (RTI) and the military surplus they have. The reason being is that many of the milsurps on their website are from Ethiopia and in rough shape. So it is a misconception to believe that everything they have is complete trash. In this video, I accuracy test some M91 Carcano Cavalry Carbines that I got from them. These ones are directly from Italy and bot Ethiopia. The difference is in storage condition, these Carcanos straight from Italy are in a lot nicer condition.

I acquired a Carcano cavalry carbine about 10 or more years ago with no import marks. Absolutely beautiful bore & stock, I think it was a war bring back. It also has a small crossed rifle stamp on the receiver indicating it was designated to have higher accuracy, I wouldn’t say match grade but above average.
Ballistic FYI Gents. Based on using
Military Ammo (or close to), using
the Italian "bottom of the V" sight
alignment, with the Carcano's 300
meter Zero- the Rounds will be ~12"
high at 100 yards, and ~ 14" high at
200 yards.
I painted a white strip on my rear sight to help get a consistent reference point for my front sight and it works well.
I have a couple that had their front sights painted by their previous owner
My Carcano came with a cracked stock. It was advertised in very good condition. RTI refused to exchange it or send parts.
Easiest thing to do is to reinforce the crack with a Brass Screw set flush with the stock.
Spread open the Crack, spray it with Break Cleaner, add Wood Glue or Epoxy, and clamp till dry. If the Screw must go all the way through the Stock, buy one that's too long, then cut off the excess.
Look up "the box o' truth repairing a split stock" to read an excellent site re, the above info.
The Carcano's that came out of Italy were amazing. Best I've seen in 30 years. 🤠
After shooting these three, inspecting them, and also getting a first hand look at a few more of them at RTI, I’d have to agree.
Battlefield Curator is one of the best hidden gems of guntube.
lol thanks 🍻
4:50 Great Dracula impression! 👍🏻
Waiting on mine from RTI. $229, SUPPOSED to be "Very Good" Italian import. I have 80 rounds of PPU waiting as well. PPU supposedly uses .264 bullets 😕 Hopefully I'm not disappointed.
As long as the bore is good and no other issues, you’d be ok at under 100 yards with .264 PPU.
I wasn’t planning on getting one but then one of my local shops somehow got one in
When I saw the one they had for sale was 1896 I couldn’t pass it up
Nice! Early date Carcanos are cool
Nice! I wouldn't mind picking one up. Every European surplus I have shoots about 8in high as they were designed that way.
I think you have a great channel, I wish you would test the norma ammo for accuracy, muzzle velocity, and penetration.
Ive shot it in several carcanos. Its a tad more accurate than ppu but not great cause its still .264. The exception being the norma 6.5 jap in my type I, that was very accurate.
Thanks. It’s actually hard to find new made Norma. I talked to another collector at a gunshow and he stated that Norma usually gets bought up pretty fast when it comes available. I have an older box of Norma, but the diameter of the bullet measures to .257… way under what actual specs should be. I’ll test that batch and keep searching though.
@@BattlefieldCurator I have shot about 5 boxes of various years of manufacture of the Norma ammo, they were all measured at .264 diameter, recheck your measurements, and use a micrometer, not calipers, it sells out fast because it is powerful, and accurate, I get mine from gun broker, I don't know of any bullet manufacture that makes a .257 diameter 6.5.
There seems to be quite a bit of shade on RTI floating around.
Have a old import and the ppu ammo will not stabilize. Reload with 160 round nose and some IMR magic stuff, shoots very nice.
Yes my older PPU ammo measured way undersized.
I've learned to hand load to shoot the more expensive calibers but the weird bullet diameter issue makes me hesitant. Steinel sells projectiles bur in pretty low quantities so even hand loading is still expensive
I would guess as long as Carcanos are available and abundant, new enthusiasts would get them and search for ammo, keeping it in high demand. Not much supply due to this, at least not until more manufacturers come into the market.
Hornady makes proper bullets for assembling be safe
I have a Beretta Carcano from RTI it shoots 1.5 feet low and 3 feet left but groups well.
Interesting… a Carcano that shoots low
I literally been thinking about buying another one to get that original tab bayonet to have all three. You’re really tempting me bro.
I have one but it’s missing the bayonet
😂
Oh I think Liberty Tree collectors, Apex parts or Sarco have bayonets in stock
@@BattlefieldCurator they have the bayonets but not the mounting hardware
Oddly I have two of them and they shoot better with the undersized PPU .264 rounds 139 grams versus that Steinel ammo. The Steinel Ammo is very nice ammo and well made. But I feel my rifles like the hotter load of the PPU rounds. Even though Steinel replicates the original bullet, I feel the load is weak and dosent replicate the original load and the PPU does better with that. Both my carbines care more about velocity and a hotter load than the bullet size.
So basically even though its technically undersized , I think these bores varied alot. Perhaps both of mine are closer to a .264 bore and that's why the PPU shoots better. But don't rule out the PPU because people tell you it's undersized and it ll shoot like crap. Some people's rifles the smaller bullet shoots better.
My biggest problem is just like the Mosin. They jam. Ive tried brass clips and steel clips. The brass clips are soft and will just end up as a mangled piece of brass. The steel work best but the bolt still jams against the clip.
Is there anything I can lubricate, replace , do differently, check, adjust, etc to make this thing cycle consistently? I know they don't have the smoothest action. I enjoy shooting guns that are the underdog. But sometimes it's beyond just a rough action. It turns into a single shot and I have a hard time even getting the clip and rest of the rounds out when I hit the release.
Interesting. I have had really great success shooting the .264 PPU from my carbine with an excellent bore under 100 yards. I noticed Steinel was better at 200-300 yards but had a bit more drop if I recall. Most of my clips are crap, but there are a few that run good. I’ll have to test them out again, I kept a few in my range bag and they got bent a tad bit and don’t work well now 😑
Out of my carbine, I get 1.5moa at 100 using norma or hornady RNSP handloads. Its 3moa with PPU. They seem to really like the long bearing surface bullets.
My carbine likes Norma too , you are correct, the torpedo shape bullet makes a difference, even tho they are .264 diameter, very accurate and powerful in my carbine.
Nice!
Just got myself one after seeing all these videos of yours and contemplating. It looks beautiful! I want to clean it up a bit though. Anyone know what to use on the stock? Can I use linseed oil like with an M1 Garand?
I ordered one of those 2wks ago, requesting round shank barrel.
Everyone should be warned to not have high expectations for RTI its a total lottery. A good majority of their rifles are junk and will need alot of work to be in shooting condition. The cheap milsurp train left the station years ago.
While the majority of the surplus they have were stored in Ethiopia and exposed to the elements, they do have some good surplus that was stored in more ideal conditions such as the Swiss K31 and K11s and the Carcanos directly out of itsly
Not exposed to the goats!
Right! I’m sure a good portion of the exterior damage on those Ethiopian surplus rifles is attributed to goat urine and feces over the many decades of being there.
I have 2 3D printed single shot blocks for my carcanos
Nice! I just keep using these clips, they came with the Carcanos from RTI
@@BattlefieldCurator i have a couple modern steel clips and like 2 brass clips.
Best place to still get them other than RTI?
Good question. I'm still getting some from J&G sales and Sarco has some discounted 'cracked' as well.
What does rifling look like inside is it real shiny or eroded and dark
Gun broker has alot.
@@MidwesternFCJ&G Sales & Sarco probably got their Carcano's from RTI.
Guns are usually only imported by 1 or 2 companies like RTI & Century Arms. Everyone else is just selling their rifles.
The J&G carbines I've seen and received came via PW Arms and the Sarco carbines they imported themselves but in general, you are correct in saying many of the imports come from a few companies. @@donwyoming1936
And only Carcano rifles use Magic Bullets. 😮
It's funny how people have been able to duplicate the "magic bullet" pretty easily. This cartridge does weird things on impact. Twists & curls and end up looking pristine at the end.
I cannot understand the want for a carcano. Impossible to find ammo locally. Rough impractical actions. Poor bores typically, not nearly as historically important as most surplus rifles. Inaccurate
These are really the only cheap surplus that are readily available. I've purchased a few of these M91 carbines for one fifty when they're on sale. We used to say the same thing about Mosins. Who knows what the prices will be on these in 10 years
It’s still a part of history, pre-WW1 and even post WW2. Definitely not as desirable as other military surplus but cheap and abundant currently.
Carcanos are much more important than your misguided comment. 👍🏻
