Writing July 25, 2023 (over 4 years later) it is interesting to see so many of the greatest current NCAA D1 collegiate runners in one or the other flights of this race. Even young Natalie Cook was there. FOUR current NC State Wolfpack runners participated: Tuohy, Schulz, Quarzo and Rauber, all from NY State. Laurie Henes knows where to go lookin' for 'em. Katelyn famously said 'the hills pay the bills', but so does the rain, snow, sleet, wind, ice, mud and cold.
I had not heard of Katelyn Tuohy yesterday. Today, I saw a vid on my feed with her running. Watched that and have been binge watching her since. After listening to less than enthusiastic commentators, the music makes a positive change. Go, Katelyn!!!
I've watched a number of her races and try to analyze her form. Her stride is very long and her arm swing matches. She runs with her whole body, not just her legs. You have to anchor the legs with corresponding arm and upper body movement to drive the legs. And her flexibility and limberness add to her efficiency. She may the most perfect running machine right now. Obviously great coaching too.
@Armando Sturzenegger Well, when she set the"worlds 4th fastest time" I believe that puts her in league with world athletes. Now I agree she will be tested when she starts running in international events, but The records she's setting now can't be dismissed, especially the "Fourth fastest indoor 5K" full stop. All age groups, no restrictions .
We should all be honored to witness her running. Reminds me of when Prefontaine was coming into his own. This is just too fun to watch. Well done Katelyn!
Pure pleasure to watch Katelyn run.....look forward to seeing more .....impressed with the second place girl also...did well to stay that close ......very exciting seeing young talent ...you go girls !!!
Yeah, she’s a great runner as well. Katelyn was pacing her because she wanting to do a pr as well and knew that as long as she didn’t fall more than 75 meters behind she was on pace.
Watched her indoor 5k. 4th fastest time IN THE WORLD .....as a HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORE. No age or class restrictions. She is a prodigy. And a pleasure to watch. She make running look fun. I'm reminded of another runner, ridiculously fast, "Secretariat is running like a tremendous machine". She's in good company.
@@colleenposadas8415 Yes, the horse, who , like Katelyn, was beyond belief. His finish at the Belmont is legendary. When he cross the finish line, 2.5 seconds and 110 feet ahead of the second place horse he was still surging/accelerating. It's estimated that if the race had been another 1/8 mile he might have won by 3.5 to 4 seconds, ridiculously fast. That's miss touhy right now.
Please be realistic and know your facts. Almost no one runs indoors 5k except USA. She was 6 in world (not 4th) and 3rd fastest USA runner for indoors 5k run on a banked track. That is excellent but, again, no one runs it! In 5k OUTDOORS she was NOT in the top 100 JUST FOR THE YEAR. There were 17 USA women in top 100. Katelyn was around 130-150 for the year and around 25-30th ranked USA woman. Please don't put too much pressure on her. She MIGHT be ready for 2024 but probably 2028 Olympics but may have to move up to 10k as she is too slow. (Currently) There are 50 or 60 runners of the same age world wide who are faster than her. We will have to wait to see how she matures and improves as a runner. Don't believe me: check the World Rankings available. All info is there. Note" In all time best Kaitlyn is ranked around 450-500 in world. I'm not knocking her. She is young and in around 4-8 years, if she keeps improving, she could be great.
I've been running ever since the gyms closed, I found out I love to run, I saw Katelyn in my feed one day, I don't know why but she inspires me so much, I have a connection with her, what a talent and motivation
Thank you for posting the race. Don't worry about what the haters say about the music. Haters are going to hate. I look forward to seeing Katelyn in the Olympics!
Finally, someone with some common sense. Yes, she might be ready by 2024. Or perhaps 2028. She is an excellent young runner who, IF she keeps improving, could be ready by then. Cheers. Currently she is ranked around 400-450 in the world over 5000m. She is over a minute slower than the fastest and may have to move up in 2 or 3 years to the 10K. We'll see.
let each one of us run our race as she runs hers, with a smile, with great determination, with joy, with such focus, we should all learn from her, she does inspire,
They're all good runners or they wouldn't have made the cut to make it into the finals. But Touhy is on another plane. She drags them along at the beginning, but then the inevitable happens. They've over run themselves trying to keep her pace and they begin to drop back to their real capabilities. Again, not putting any of them down. It's just that she's a phenom. She set the 4th fastest time in the WORLD in the indoor 5k. That's for ALL classes, all age groups, no restrictions, and she was 16 at the time. She lapped the entire field THREE times. Then she just took a deep breath and casually walked of the track. I had to watch it over three times just to try to wrap my head around it.
@@loganstjohn6964 Everyone watching this knows Katelyn arrived years ago. She's a humble person as well. A good bet viewers here have long distance experience of their own. The choice of music suggests you don't.
Call me weird, but I kind of liked the music. It's certainly better than listening to moronic announcers repeating, ad nauseum, platitudes about how great Katelyn is. Even though it's true, we all know this (that's why we're watching). It could have been the theme from Chariots of Fire... Let's have a poll on what the best music for watching Ms. Touhy running. I'll take "the Ride of the Valkyries" or "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana (Carl Orff).
If Katelyn is in a distance race the question isn't who is going to finish First, it's who will finish first behind Katelyn. Her mechanics in running are flawless. I love watching that young lady run!
Katelyn is an excellent athlete. I hope she can get training at altitude, because without it, if she one day races against Kenyan and Ethiopian women she won't win.
She is a very strong relaxed runner! Against white girls she is tops but I think she knows what is coming when she faces the Ethiopians and Kenyans. It will be heart breaking and not close!
So, the big question has got to be, what was the name of the winner????? No commentary, so we don't know the entrants names, the time of the race...... was it a competitive time????
These young ladies all ran exceptionally well, but I have two issues. Since 2 miles isn’t an official distance for track and field records the track doesn’t have a start line for that event. The only distance in “English units” that is still officially recognized is 1 mile and it appears they started at the one mile start line, making the race actually a little over 30 feet short of two miles. The other issue I have is the choice of a song with rather adult lyrics for a video of a high school girls race.
@Jasleen Kaur (460jaskaur) The question was asking the name of the girl Katelyn Touhy "smoked", meaning blew past at a very fast pace, not the inhaling smoke kind. And yes, it was Katelyn Hart.
Yes, it was Hart, who came in a close second in the 2018 Footlocker Nat'l Cross Country Championship. Certainly no slouch, but Touhy is in another league.

Dave Valant yeah
She must've not been going as hard as she could've
That's Katelynne Hart and she's fast, it's just the other Katelyn is in a league of her own when it comes to high school t&f.
