The little glance when she looks over to analyze your pain... That is absolute power. Like... I would crumble. Yahhhh, I better slow down so I get second. She is truly intimidating. Her body is really strong, but her mind is why this all possible.
This race is a VINDICATION for Katelyn Touhy.. Finally winning a MAJOR collegiate 5K outdoor Track race ( NCAA) since coming out from High School. Her opponents are no pushover either. yet Katelyn Touhy INFORM them who is the REAL QUEEN in this event.
Those last few laps it was anyone's race. But just when you think she can't go faster, she kicks it into another gear and takes off. Great victory for Katelyn.
I'm glad Katelyn got to run on the new Oregon track, and win. Next Olympics is Paris, Then LA. That's right up her alley and the right time in her running career.
Man, Katelyn was so serious - looking almost angry - just before the start, definitely all business. Parker Valby seems to have one strategy: find Katelyn and stick with her as long as she can.
valby said it herself that indeed that was her plan, just stick with katelyn, seems like she already knew who's gonna win this race before even toeing the line
Well, I love the way she runs but she has now to prove that she's competitive at the highest level in international competitions and meetings. She needs to become able to run under 15' any 5k race. I hope she will soon.
K. almost ran herself legless, which few ladies are able to do even at the highest level. I am most impressed by that. She moved up from the schoolgirl ranks clueless about tactics but now has clearly had the benefit of some top coaching. Her physical stature has increased but she is always close to optimal weight and remains of an efficient size. So, no loss of weight needed. Overall she is satisfactorily transitioning into the senior ranks which is immensely difficult to do. She has worked through injuries with pluckiness and overall is making the best of herself. Many of us athletics fans in the U.K. continue to keep K. on our radar screens and wish her great success!
Almost identical to the NCAA East Regional 5K in B'town (Indiana University). Except, Parker Valby (U. of FL) actually passed KT w/ about 3/4 laps to go instead of staying on her outside hip the entire race. Perhaps Parker thought she could gas KT out. This strategy did not work either. When Katelyn untucks her jersey, it makes me think of the corner man for the Russian in Rocky IV. He yells some instruction in Russian at a certain point in the fight, which then causes the Russian boxer to go into "beast mode." Valby must be thrilled she wasn't born 3 years earlier or later! (sarcasm). She will be KT's only real "rival" till she is done w/ her college career. Congrats to Katelyn Tuohy (KT) on being a NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPION!! #TuohyForTheGolds #NextStopUSATFChampionships
I keep watching Katelyn stride, it’s so efficient, she doesn’t look like she is wasting any energy. Her stride seems to be more in a straight line and not like the other women whose stride is wider and their stride finish more to the side. Katelyn also seems to not twist her body as much in her stride so she doesn’t use as much energy keeping her balance and moving in a straight line. Watch her feet finish more in a line straight behind her while the other women their feet kick out more to the side twisting their body more and effecting their center of gravity.
In many respects her form is nearly perfect front to back and viewed from the side. It seems frictionless. In this respect she reminds me of sprinter Allyson Felix. The interesting thing to me is that like Felix her stride is more typical of a taller woman and she like Felix has manage to make this an advantage.
You're right! It's an interesting contrast with Kelsey Chmiel whom I like (no criticism intended) but who runs in such a gangly fashion that can't possibly be efficient.
It really nags at me that a person with her athletic and academic ability doesn't choose Stanford. Nothing wrong with NC State, good school but Stanford is life changing. In the end, it won't matter, she'll succeed in whatever she does, I'm sure, but Stanford is a different level, let's be honest.
she would not be the athlete that she is now if not for nc state's program, coaching staff, teammates, community, environment.. its what she feels right, not what we feel is right.
@@patois231 she is a very smart young lady, I get the sense that she knew very well the decision she was making to choose NC State over Stanford, and I don't get the sense that she is second-guessing that decision, it's just not the decision I would have made but ...who the hell am I? Haha. We all have reasons for making the decisions we make.
THE POWER HER STARE HOLDS 😳
It was almost an accusatory look at the 'starter' for lane 1 assignment. 🤨

Katelyn =. excellence, and you can tell she loves to run. Greetings from Canada
If a runner doesn't look serious, the alternative is looking scared--not a great way to start a race. She was serious, the proper way to be.
Try as many might Katelyn will show them who is boss!!!
Yup..k was on it...
Anyone surprised? Not. I would be surprised if she did not win it. I have been a fan for years. This young lady is a competitor. Straight A's as well.
This young lady needs much much more Recognition and awarded

Grande Katelyn y saludos desde Temuco Chile.

Thanks for sharing this! #suggestion = Putting the outcome of the race in the title of the race is kind of a spoiler if you haven't seen it.

They will both have competition from Natalie Cook of Oklahoma State this year, and possibly Jenna Hutchins from BYU, in both XC and track.

Wow! You are AWESOME!
Katelyn has a stronger legs.
She's still leaning forward in her finishing kicks, not like the next to her, she's leaning backwards already.
