But at some point on her current trajectory an all out effort for Paris 2024 has to start, and that probably doesn't keep her as an NC State student athlete.

While top collegiate athletes can compete internationally, for many the regimen and stress of the intercollegiate events puts a damper on training for international, and so the collegiate years is viewed as a developmental precursor to international competition.
The way that Katelyn runs looks so comfortable and relaxed which is deceiving to onlookers and competitors alike. Her tenacity , true grit and determination kicks in when she drops the hammer and powers up. Katelyn is truly an awesome athlete .
Even so, like four paces after she crossed the line she casually turns to watch the race for second place and doesn't even seem to be short of breath!!

My daughter broke her hip and will never run again. But talents like Tuohy inspire us and this channel allows us to "run virtually" with them for the last few years now. there's no crying for what she's lost, there's tears of joy for the heroes.

Smooth, so mechanically efficient . Very little vertical movement of the head or side to side sway. I know she's working hard but she makes it look so easy. A pleasure to watch and I'm so excited to see her mature into her full potential. Just hope she can handle the press attention and expectations. I hope she is going to surround herself with good people who are looking out for her best interests as well as her emotional well being.

A whole 10 seconds faster than 2nd Place. While being crowded for the first 1/3rd of the race, then she breaks in the clear and lights the afterburners. AMAZING! I have to say that I am not a huge fan of track, but I absolutely love watching this girl run. It's just incredible, like watching a force of nature in motion. You see it, you know it's coming, and you can't take your eyes off of it, like seeing a tornado or tidal wave. I can't wait to see more. I am definitely a fan, and I hope she enjoys competing as much as I enjoy watching. I hope she stays healthy and continues what has been the start to a great career. GO PACK!
Katelyn Tuohy is an extraordinary athlete she looks like she could have cut that time that she just ran by another 10 seconds if she had wanted. I have been watching Katlyn since her school days and I predict before her career is over she will be a household name with many world records under her belt.
Tuohy ran well within herself, but running only 5-6 seconds slower than her NCAA record after going deep into the tank with her DMR effort was probably not in the cards, especially considering she would have had to solo from the start to get to near to that time.
@@tak-el-uc She ran 16 seconds slower then her NCAA record. Hard to do that again until she races a tougher field. Otherwise she would have to just take off on her own and go for it. The record race she had a pro pacer to follow.

At Millrose not only did Tuohy have a pacer dedicated to the NCAA record pace, she was able to follow Whittni Morgan for much of the race after the pacer was done. It's hard to imagine Tuohy's NCAA 3k record would fall in a race without pacers and pro-runners even to Katelyn herself.

It's so so inspiring and amazing to watch. Maybe running will make a comeback as a recreational sport like it was in the 80s. That's when I got my start, and I've been running for over 40 years since then.
It's always such a pleasure watching her run! She's put in so much hard work, and it's great that she isn't letting her success go to her head, because, as she mentions, she gets to train with the best. To be the best, you have to train with the best, as well as share ideas, and have a great coach! If you only train with runners nowhere near your standards, it's harder to bring them up, than for them to get you off your pace and bring you down.
She is incredible! Her poise and calm demeanor, when she runs, is amazing. Watching her is akin to watching Michael Jordan or Mia Hamm or Wayne Gretzky. They were all athletes were head-and-shoulders above everyone else, and Ms. Tuohy is, as well. It's remarkable see.

KT set on autopilot and still laps a competitor. Her natural skill, internal and external motivations, IQ, and modesty make her an Earth-level powerhouse and a good human.
Just stay on Earth please. Not saying that she is having a low IQ, but running 3000 meters doesn’t need high IQ. That she needs to finish her education. Runners are a different kind of people with a huge hearth which probably was born with. I would compare her to SECRETARIAT the race horse who won the Tripple Crown with the same distance as Katelyn won this race. She could be the nicest girl with a low IQ but still could win this race because of her heart and talent of running. External motivations have nothing to do with just like internal doesn’t. I’m just praying that she will not burn out before she goes to world events, because there where she could shine.

Tuohy is a phenomenal collegiate runner so it will be interesting to see when she moves up a level and starts coming up against the worlds best in the World Championships and the Olympics.
OK, just watched this again. What I found more amazing then her actual running, but once passed the finish line, barely any show of fatigue. No cool down activities, no leaning on her knees, no apparent heavy breathing, nothing that shows that she couldn't run for another 2k at her final pace.

She's the total package: incredible talent, race smarts, class, poise, charisma, sunny disposition, good looks. She's only 20...middle distance runners peak in their mid to later 20s...she'll be setting new records for years to come!
A very apt comparison. I was there at that race and the crowd was going nuts as Secretariat, after running even with Sham for a while, said "okay, look guys, this is how it's done". Tuohy does the same thing .

I'll be honest that I have no idea who Katelyn is, except that she is apparently a very talented young lady. Watching this I just think how proud she must be and also her parents. I'm can hear mom and dad each say "that's MY girl". I know that I just get that feeling of pride knowing this young lady is running for her team and mostly for herself and simply running away from the field. Good luck this season Katelyn. This kid is a pure runner, her form is great and her race IQ is off the charts.
