    Huge thank you to:
Ayu and Agung - For cooking amazing authentic Balinese food
Pak Choi - For arranging everything for us
Made - For driving us around
Lawar is a traditional Indonesian Balinese dish of which there are many variations, but typically it contains shredded coconut, and some kind of meat, and as I would find out and learn myself - pig’s blood.
Ayu is such an impressive cook, and for the different types of lawar, she mixed and matched all the ingredients, and mixed up everything with her hand to create these incredible salad like coconut mixtures. I didn’t know this until Ayu told me, but the traditional versions of Balinese lawar typically contain some raw blood mixed in, which creates a type of sauce.
After Ayu mixed up a bunch of different types of lawar, we sat down for what was easily one of the best meals I had in Bali, Indonesia. The food was impressively delicious, and the love that went into the cooking was also a huge contribution to what made this meal so special. This is one of those meals I’ll never forget.
Thank you again to Ayu and Agung, Made, and Pak Choi!

It was a huge honor to have this meal experience. And even though it contains raw blood, which I fully understand if it's not your preference (and I warned about in the title), I would greatly appreciate it if you would respect the culture and culinary traditions shown. Thank you so much for watching!

Mark Wiens i really appreciate it mark, dont mind those close minded people, for me your vid is not all about food, but how you introduce the culture, tradition and authentic stuffs from many places is what makes your channel "has it all", people should learn how to appreciate things more, they dont need to travel and have mark to show many things, adding to their knowledge, yet they still hating, this is why our world is going to hell.. keep up the good work !

My mom live in Bali for about several years and she also told me about that kind of lawar. That kind of lawars are rare and only served in some particular ceremony. Not all of Balinese food mixed with raw pig's blood and not all Balinese CAN EAT raw pig's blood. Note that guys...

Hello Mark and hello everyone. I'm from Bali. The blood is fresh. Lawar with raw blood must be eat before 4 hours after mixed. If u don't like lawar with raw blood, you can fried it after mixed with raw blood and it will be longlast. u can choose to use either pork or chicken blood. Its a must to try food when u come to Bali. 😊

Lawar actually a food that usually served on special occasions like festivals, weddings because of the complicated preparations back at the ancient days. Nowadays it is served as home cooking because you could buy the prepared ingredients right away from the market. Some region has their own specialty Lawar which is has different main ingredients such as star fruit leaf, underripe papaya or young coconut shell as the main ingredients and they have their own unique flavor. Even there is a lawar that has endangered turtle as the ingredients but it became rare because of the ingredients is hard to find and it is banned by the goverment as well. It is a pleasure to have you in bali. I hope you have 1 more time to visit bali

Jamu's are traditional Balinesian-Indonesian herbal remedies. They come in many forms, usually powders or pills. Made with different herbs, roots, spices; one either takes with water (pills) or make a tea with it (powders) then drink. Good to take after eating very rich fatty foods. Some Jamu's are also to be used externally for skin conditions. It's very popular for herbal beauty regimen and worked well for me. Not many people outside of Bali or Indonesia know about them, but they have been used for generations and are very good. As with any foods or health remedies, just make sure to first check contraindications with your MD if you take any western medications or have serious health issues.

I’ve had dishes like these before in s.e. Asia. The blood is fine. I wouldn’t seek it out to try again but it wasn’t unpleasant. There are far to many judgemental, Ill educated, unadventurous people making comments on here. Mark shows you truly authentic traditional foods and half of you all can’t even handle it,,

What's the problem ? Michelin star restaurants dishes serve Steak Tartare and Carpaccio and get rave reviews. Customers line to order raw meat dishes which has blood as an ingredient. So now you are the PC police...ffs if you don't like what you see then f... off to where someone might care about your sad/miserable opinion 😡
