@@FiveStarCarStereoInc hi sir i have an Kenwood ddx715wbt. I decided to shift to Poineer avh5550bt. Which one is good please tell. Kewood bass option is not good.
hey guys I had to post this I installed the 4200nex Pioneer in mine, a buddy of mine installed the 9903s Kenwood in his exact same Nissan Cube that I have except his is a 2014 both have Rockford Fosgate audio system. after his was set up the sound was clearly better in my Pioneer even my buddy agreed mainly due to the pioneer auto calibration. one more thing that sold me is the Pioneer has an SD card slot which means I can stick a 64 gig SD card full of movies and songs and leave it in there and the Kenwood requires you to give up one of your precious USB slots for a USB drive. we also put the same MP3s on a USB stick and compared Pioneer sound of the mp3s to Kenwood sound of the mp3s. the Pioneer has a button that like can give you two extra levels of processing vastly improving the sound quality of the mp3s, Kenwood doesn't have that, so if you love your MP3s the Pioneer is the right choice. oh we both got the idata link Maestro installed and they run exactly the same while I think Kenwood and Pioneer have different contracts I think the actual programming per automobile may be the same depending on the car.

S. Stallone I agree 100% kenwood decks look great and sound great when they work which isn't very often ' sorry kenwood fans but they're not reliable and if you've got one that is you're lucky. pioneer just work well and they last.
Tried to install the Kenwood 9903S and the hissing when plugging in an iPhone was just too much to handle. I am returning it and getting the 4200NEX. Bummer.
Great video. Keep up the great work guys. IMO there are 3 big make it or break deals. 1) Detachable face 2) Capacitive screen & 3) Auto EQI want a detachable face & an auto EQ. Capacitive feature is a luxury feature to me. If I wanted a capacitive, I'd get the 8200NEX with all it's features. I will say, that Kenwood is SWEET! It would definitely be my second brand choice in the HU category.
Again guys very informative thanku 😆, now one thing u mentioned that I found not correct the bt dual device is compatible with pioneer avh 4200nex I happen to have me & my wife paired to it
It is a totally different type of of pairing. On the Kenwood both phones are active at the same time. You can get a call on either phone while listening to either phone for music. The non Nex Pioneer radios also have the same dual Bluetooth.
Thanks for this video! I was torn between these two decks and seeing them side by side, I started leaning towards the Pioneer until I played with one in person. The physical buttons they use are horrible. Kenwood it is for me. Thanks again!
I want to install an incredibly advanced stereo in my traveling van. Can I somehow tell you what I want from a car stereo, have you tell me what crazy modern features I'm missing, and make a recommendation of what stereo I should buy from you?
You guys are the best! I was hoping to get a comparison for the DDX9703S versus the DDX9903S unit since I was seriously considering purchasing the DDX9703S at a great bargain but wasn't sure if there were any major differences between the two. My wife has the Pioneer AVH 4200NEX and she loves it but it is not on special. Thanks for any help.
I replaced a 4200 with the 9903 and I'm glad I did. The screen alone is worth it imo, the only thing I miss about the 4200 is the auto eq ability, other than that the Kenwood is the better unit. thanks for the great channel keep up the good work.
Are you using this with an iPhone, and if so are you happy with the audio quality? The Kenwood Excelon DDX6903s has all the features we want (I want a physical volume knob), but I'm hesitant to buy one due to the reported problems with audio noise or static with Car Play. A highly-rated installer near me in Portland told me he no longer stocks Excelon touchscreen models due to all the problems his customers were having with them.
Shawn Marshall I am using it with an iPhone and have not noticed any hiss at all. I was worried bout this as well but have nothing but good things to say about this unit. Maybe the hiss was software, maybe it was installer error or a poor ground? Whatever caused it, I don't have the problem.
Thanks for replying to my question; that's encouraging. Perhaps I'll buy the 6903s from Crutchfield and attempt to bench test it before I have it installed. One more quick question: In your setup, do you have your 9903 directly driving your speakers, or are you sending the signal to another amp (then to the speakers)? I'm wondering whether this reported hiss is happening is happening with certain types of setups. I wouldn't be using a separate amp in my car.
Shawn Marshall No amp, just an underseat sub connected. I am using aftermarket pioneer speakers, maybe the hiss has to do with using factory speakers? The 9903 is discounted in most places now, they're bringing out a 9904 soon so the 9903 is much cheaper than it was before.
Middle finger at 1:25,....lol,....i got the avh-4400 and love it,..kenwood has a nicer display though, but im.more familiar with the pioneer and knew it was going to do what do, sound like, and what esse of use was going to be like. Im not familiar with the kenwood,...
Awesome video guys!. Thank you, so here is the golden question- which one would you buy for your car? I know personal preferences but again what would you buy for yourself?
Great video! Any issues that you are aware of concerning Android Auto and USB type A to type C connections with the Pioneer? I have a Nexus 5x with type C end. Should I use the provided USB cable for the Pioneer to my own USB type c cable; or should I just run my own cable from the back of the unit to my phone? Does it matter? Thanks!
Million thanks 🙏... I did not know Ken wood has such a lot of features... I thought pioneer was the lion king 😁 Kindly advise which specific after-market radio will give me very low sub frequencies of 25Hz (air bass) without distortion. Am not into apple play/ android auto connect features or cameras... am more interested in sound quality . Thanks again Sir.
I'm currently deciding between these two head units and it's pretty tough. Both are currently $549 right now. The Kenwood has the nice capacitive touch and supposidly better audio. The Pioneer has the backup camera included (4201NEX model).
Yeah that's why they are both at $549. That price is after the $150 rebate. The Kenwood is $799 on sale for $549 and the Pioneer is $699 with a $150 rebate. I still can't decide lol
Great video Guys, The Pioneer 4200 for me, the auto calibration is fantastic takes what ever speakers you have and takes them up a whole other level. I am installing a new one in my cube. By the way my factory system has a MONO subwoofer built into the car... Do I connect it to white or red or use a Y adaptor and connect both of them in the back of the Pioneer ?
Francisco Ortiz just use on or the other, it is a mono output from the radio. Meaning even though there are 2 RCAs, it is same channel coming out of both.
wow - never had that explained in 25 years of playing w car stereo stuff- thank you - knew the sub was mono but didnt realize that meant same channel comes out of the subs 2 rca connects
I don't know what you guys in the comments below are smoking but clearly the Winner of features in this video comparison is the Kenwood DDX9903s! Its no brainer
June 21, 2017- crutchfield has kenwood $550 and pioneer $500 or $600 w camera included. So pioneer has removeable face plate(antitheft) sd card & older maestro Idad, single phone pairing at 1 time,4 volts preamp, less sharp clear resistive screen. Kenwood is $50 more, sharper touch capacitive screen, has newer idad plus version, dual phone pairing,5volts preamp out, faster car play scolling of playlists. proprietary usb connection, uses google maps on phone no navigation built in
I personally think I like the Kenwood better, I have owned the Pioneer 4200 which doesn't suck by any means. Good job keeping all of that straight Dean. The capacitive screen on the Kenwood is a BIG plus.
+Jedi Jamo The One that is a big word for a motor that moves the display down so you can but the DVD behind the screen. The Pioneer 4200 does have a fully detachable face though. We do take it for you in our unboxing video.
was trying to find info on the 9703s and couldn't find any so I called kenwood. apparently they are basically the same radio however the 9903 offers better stereo? planning on purchasing the 9703 so wanted to learn everything I could before I did. your videos are very helpful...........thanks again for taking the time to do them. I don't live anywher near you or I'd have you do my install....(and purchase)
+ssarge2 there is a newer version also. The 9704. The New feature are a menus, no Hdmi, and a better USB connection. Excelon' also have a 2 year warranty
I called kenwood yesterday to see what I could learn. they told me the 9703s is the same radio as the 9903s with the exception being the sound and the warranty.........I haven't seen the 9704 anywhere yet.....at the risk of sounding patronizing - I really do appreciate your doing these videos. Looks like I'm going with the 03s since I listen mostly to talk radio and use google maps and waze.
+ssarge2 the one thing the new 4,s have that is a big deal is the hated " ok" screen goes away after 7 seconds unlike the 3's you have to press it every time.
Torn between the two units! Have a 2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited that needs the factory nav radio updated in the worst way! No bluettoth streaming whatsoever on that unit. Anyways, I have a factory backup camera. Will it work with either of these units? Also, which one would look better in my vehicle? haha Really not a fan of that bullnose on the Pioneer deck, but I like how the radio station presets are on the left of the screen vs the right on the Kenwood. Why does that matter to me....because Toyota put our dang radios too damn far away from the driver! awesome video guys
Gr8 video. I'm interested in getting a nex 4200 however i have a few questions in mind.. Will this support Divx whereby i can download videos/movies from youtube etc and convert to divx format? Will this deck read this file on a usb drive or can i view videos/movies using the mirror cast using iphone? I PS I hate using DVD's.
Not sure if you answer questions. Here is my big one. On the Kenwood, can you run Android Auto for navigation on one USB while playing an iPod Classic on the other USB? I know you can on the Pioneer, though Pioneer doesn't like the 30-pin connector, and if you use it you'll get static sometimes. You need to change to a lightning connector iPod like an iPod touch. I had a 4100 and replaced it with the 9902 because the Kenwood supported the 30-pin iPod, but the 9902 only has one USB. Thinking of updating to 9903 with two USB inputs if it will solve that issue
I bought the 4200 and haven't installed it yet. Is it possible to get RCA audio in from the rear drop down DVD player. I'm thinking it would be with the RCA audio in plugs but I just wanted to make sure. Great videos guys and thanks for making my car audio/video decisions 1000 times easier.
Joseph Hyde thank you, yes the RCA( yellow, red, white) on the back are for input. There is also an output rca(yellow) and 1/8 audio out to go with it. Plus there is also a 1/8 aux input to.
Five Star Car Stereo Can the aux out support video and audio with a 3 way RCA splitter or am I better off with the yellow video out and using a 2 way splitter with the red and white RCAs. For me the 3.5mm to 3 way RCA would be the preferred option to limit wires. Thanks again!
I have the 4200 and love it..Have it installed in a 06 odyssey...great on family Road trips. Only issue I have is the fm turner isnt that great, some local station come in like crap.
How is the audio out useful? You mentioned that you need an 1/8 inch to RCA adapter to use it. I would like an 1/8" audio input, do these have this capability? I think they do after watching another one of your videos about hdmi to the rear drop down monitor. I bought a kenwood 1/8" to 3 channel rca cac3 av and the isimple rca to hdmi on your recommendation.
Joseph Hyde yes they both have aux in. The av out is for audio if you are doing rear seat video. You can have the DVD player play on the back screen with headphones. Ca c3.av would plug into the aux input for av in like the Medialinx.
You guys always do a great job...I wish you would do a sound quality and overall wiring and such quality of a Pioneer unit vs a overseas Android unit that I see look like a direct nice dash integration selling for $350-450. Is that possible?
Man my personal pet peeve are those white box radios. They sound terrible and are so slow. If I could get them to send me one to test we would, but I don't think they will.
+UnknownHandle UnknownHandle yes that is them, they promise a lot for very little. I find it odd the Pioneer and Kenwood have not built anything like this.
That first difference with Warning is just software, as the 4100 is also STATIC! That Power OFF is nice addition. On the EQ, the most annoying thing is the sound muting while you adjust. This makes it harder to fine tune. I bought the mic, and have yet to use it. I wonder how effective it is? Pioneer remote is just Source, track, Volume, Mute. Not other controls. I kind of like the Kenwood for the dual platform phone pairing......, while I have the Pioneer :-)
Quick question: Can the Pioneer do the dual zone sound (DVD for kids in back, music in the front) without headphones, like the Kenwood can? The way it was worded in the video, it seemed to imply that the Pioneer needed headphones, but I wanted to clarify as the dual-zone without headphones needed is a big seller for me (2 young kids, lots of roadtrips!).
These are the two decks I have been looking at. I have two questions. 1) How is the glare difference between the two? That Kenwood with a glass front seems like it would have more glare than the Pioneer, making it harder to see in sunlight. Can you elaborate on that at all? 2) On the Pioneer, if one USB is for Apple, and the other for Android, can you run Android Auto off the one, and iPod off the other at the same time, or only thumb drives and CD's when using Android Auto??
There is a glare but no one has complained about it. You can till the screen up to help on both the radios. Yes you can play an iPod on USB 1 if you are doing AA on the other on the Pioneer.
ashemoski USB 1 is for apple and USB 2 is for android. You can only do one at a time. Yes you can choose one in smartphone settings but it is not totally necessary.
Which works better with the Navigation? Will the backup camera have the parking lines and automatically go on when the car is put in reverse? Also, I saw on Crutchfield that the Pioneer can accept the Iphone 8 and X, but the Kenwood only accepts the 7 or older for car play. Is that true? Thank you
+Kevin Duncan Honestly I don't remember. The 9902 was only around for like 7 months before it was replaced by the 9903. The 9904 will be out in a week or two. I just remember being happy that the 9902 was gone.
The one feature you did not mention that for me is what is the deal breaker is that you can use an iPod Classic with the Pioneer but not the Kenwood. I was set to purchase the Kenwood until I saw that it will not work with an older iPod.
I know you guys are busy but do you know where the DDX9903S starts to distort? I have one and planning on getting subs and do not have a DD1 to test. Thanks
I have the 4000NEX and have considered both the 4200 and the DDX9903S as upgrades... To me it came down to the Auto EQ. If the Kenwood had it, I would say it's a slam dunk (some people don't like the glare on the capacitive screens but it's not an issue in my car). The Auto EQ is great for systems that don't have a processor. It gives a good starting point for EQ and other sound settings and I didn't have to adjust things too much beyond what the Auto EQ did to get a nice reference EQ curve. I'm surprised you guys didn't give more props to the Pioneer for the auto EQ -- do you not think it's a killer feature?
Keith R yes it is definitely a killer feature, I wish they included the setup mic. I would not up grade to a 4200 just yet. If you can hold out till later this year, a hole new style radio is coming. Just an FYI
Five Star Car Stereo BTW I'm sure you know but others reading this might not -- you don't need the official pioneer mic for the auto eq. I used one from an Onkyo home theater receiver and it worked perfectly. Maybe that'll save someone $20...
im thinking on purchasing the nex 4200.. However i will like to know if 1.) i can convert my videos on divx and view on this stereo and which format in divx do i need to use? 2.) could i also watch netflix on this setup as well?? Thanks in advance.
4:30 - Power off You obviously didn't look that hard through the available menu options from the grid on the right for the Kenwood. There's a power off button in there. Also, if you hold the home button, the unit will shut off. Like... off off... not standby. Literally to the state that the radio was in prior to the key being turned.
Are there any other stereos that can show different things on different screens with dual zone audio? Specifically what if I wanted to run nav up front while the kids watch a film in the back? Is that possible?
You you said they both do steering wheel control via ext box like the PAC SWI-RC. I see the REM-IN on the pioneer ... but I do not see a REM-IN on the Kenwood. Please clarify how to use the PAC with the Kenwood with no REM-IN
PrismDetail Kenwood has a blue/ yellow wire on the main harness. The swi-RC has the same wire coming of of it. It is a wire to wire connection unlike the headphone type on the Pioneer.
Mike Jordan The Kenwood has that iDatalink Maestro RR (separate component you have to buy) Kenwood website has more info on that...if I had a Ken instead of a Pioneer, I would buy it and try it out, looks cool.
The Idatalink is not what I 'think" I am asking about. On one of the 300 vids I have watched on Android Auto radios, someone had a radio running the android Torque app (which I already have/use on my phone) and a Bluetooth OBDII sensor (which I already have) that displayed all of the gauges and OBDII info on the radio. I just don't know what radio or vid I watched now. Wondering if either of these 2 radios will do this, or if not if you know which one will?
Mike Jordan so the both have HDMI in that will let you screen share your phone. It will display what is on your phone on the screen but it will be the only active source. The iDatalink will be accessible anytime you like.
Just found out the pioneer will not work with a 2tb hard drive for external music because it works on fat 32 . The Kenwood has the NTFS which allows you to use the bigger external hard drives like a 2tb . I would think that's a big feature difference . Another big difference is the linux dual processor in the Kenwood the pioneer only has a single processor thing move slower .
Does anyone know if the 9903s has a native spotify app that will allow me to control spotify over bluetooth with playlist navigation? I know the 9904s has this, but it does not have the hdmi input, and trying to decide which model to get.
So I know the Kenwood can't turn off and completely power down like the Pioneer, but even if the unit doesn't power all the way down, is there a way on the Kenwood to blackout the screen?
the Pioneer CAN pair 2 devices at once.....also the Pioneer has network mode as an option that the Kenwood does not....also Pioneer has "app radio live" which you'll never use but it's still a feature over the Kenwood but both are really great units! nice to see Kenwood stepping up their game because Pioneer was running the ddin game for good minute!!
The Nex models do not have Network mode that feature is only available on the regular AVH models. They can pair up to 3 phones but can not use them at the same time like the Kenwood , that feature is also only available on the non NEX models. Yeah no one uses AppRadio that is why I forgot about it, oops. Yes it took a couple years but Kenwood is trying with these radios.
+Stephen Parrish yes App radio is a bit lacking. If it is an acronym for anything they never told us. I always thought it was supposed to mean next, because when they introduced them it was showcasing the new OS.
Larry Clements you should've address that comment to the original poster of this video as I am more than aware of what NEX meansif you would've read my Original comment thoroughly lol
They mention how on the Poineer only allows 1 custom background image. This is misleading because you can keep as many custom backgrounds as you want on your SD card and change it as often as you want. So yes there is only 1 icon for custom background, but that doesn't keep you from access ALL your custom image files on your card.
However with the Kenwood you can literally browse all your images soo quickly fromt same screen when ever you want to change. Trying that on the Pioneer will take 4 years lol
Is the NEX4200 the same as the AVH-8850bt? I ask because I've got the 8850bt (Aus) and it looks the same as the 4200nex. Also the MicroBypass works on the avh 8850bt. How does handbrake bypass on the kenwood work? Can it just simply be grounded?
My Pioneer 4100 will play pretty much anything. I'm thinking of switching to Kenwood but want to know if I can still play movies and videos just like the Pioneer.
+Five Star Car Stereo what do you guys think haves better sound for car system the pioneer nex or kenwoods double din I'm mainly concerned with audio quality
+juneacannon that is a really hard one to ask. Last year I would have said Pioneer no question. This year Kenwood really updated the sound in these radios. Now it is a much harder like picking the Lamdo or the Ferrari.
Detachable face is ok, but most people don't remove them after a couple of weeks and anyone will most likely know that the radio is in the car, close by
Wouldn't the DDX9703s be a better comparison to the 4200? I seen where people were talking about the pioneers screen which is more comparable with the 9703s not this one. Pioneers best screen is on there 8200 right? I personally have the 7100 pioneer, but I like the new Kenwood units and I sell a lot of them.
Kenwood uses Garmin, the same navigation that you can buy on the portable units. That is a selling point on the Kenwood, you don't have to learn a new navigation system.
Wait what? I thought these units didn't have Navigation. Do you mean it doesn't use the GPS antenna on your phone and instead uses the Garmin antenna? and if so how does it know? When I am connected to the Kenwood and using Google maps.. my phone knows that it is getting the GPS data elsewhere? confused about this.
Austin Dent Kenwood has the gps antenna to help the phone. When the phone is connected it can use the radios instead of the phones. That way you can leave the phone in a armrest or wherever and still have maps.
No that does not exist in the 12 volt world yet. It is because of the copyright of the data going over the HDMI. We do his for what you want. ua-cam.com/video/33f0pP_146s/v-deo.html
I am totally torn. on one hand, I want the Pioneer for the detachable face and iPod classic support for my Wrangler... on the other I want the capacitive screen, fast charge for my 6P. I like the Kenwood ui better....but....agggghhh!
you guys are awesome and an asset to the industry. as a manager of a stereo shop i am envious and appreciative of your efforts and information

Sweet, enjoy
I will say that is useful for those of us still living in the hood. Big point for Pioneer on that one

I replaced a 4200 with the 9903 and I'm glad I did. The screen alone is worth it imo, the only thing I miss about the 4200 is the auto eq ability, other than that the Kenwood is the better unit. thanks for the great channel keep up the good work.
+Kingston73 thank you for sharing. Yes the Auto EQ is the one thing that gets me too
Are you using this with an iPhone, and if so are you happy with the audio quality? The Kenwood Excelon DDX6903s has all the features we want (I want a physical volume knob), but I'm hesitant to buy one due to the reported problems with audio noise or static with Car Play. A highly-rated installer near me in Portland told me he no longer stocks Excelon touchscreen models due to all the problems his customers were having with them.
Shawn Marshall
I am using it with an iPhone and have not noticed any hiss at all.
Shawn Marshall
No amp, just an underseat sub connected. I am using aftermarket pioneer speakers, maybe the hiss has to do with using factory speakers? The 9903 is discounted in most places now, they're bringing out a 9904 soon so the 9903 is much cheaper than it was before.
The Pioneer is mirrorlink ready, but I dont know about the Kenwood. I love the detachable screen on the Pioneer.
Funny, I still have the DDX9903 but started out with the 4200 (which I sold, didn't like). Still happy with the 9903 three years later.
Middle finger at 1:25,....lol,....i got the avh-4400 and love it,..kenwood has a nicer display though, but im.more familiar with the pioneer and knew it was going to do what do, sound like, and what esse of use was going to be like. Im not familiar with the kenwood,...
Good job guys, keep up the great vids!
+Panayioti Kostrilis thank you
Awesome video guys!.
Thanks!
Damon Smith I would run their cable to somewhere easy to get to. Then plug in yours. You need a standard USB input to do software updates
Great. Thanks a lot. I wish you guys were in RI. Your video was very informative.
Damon Smith thank you
Million thanks 🙏... I did not know Ken wood has such a lot of features... I thought pioneer was the lion king 😁
Kindly advise which specific after-market radio will give me very low sub frequencies of 25Hz (air bass) without distortion.
+Steven_Bikes the 4201 also has a $150 mail in rebate if you get it from an authorize Pioneer dealer
Yeah that's why they are both at $549. That price is after the $150 rebate. The Kenwood is $799 on sale for $549 and the Pioneer is $699 with a $150 rebate. I still can't decide lol
Well Crutchfield just made the choice easier by having the Kenwood on sale for $399. That's kind of a no brainer.
They didn't do a price comparison either. Kenwood is 750$ on amazon and Pioneer is 550 on amazon.
cruzernator price plays a huge factor
June 21, 2017- crutchfield has kenwood $550 and pioneer $500 or $600 w camera included. So pioneer has removeable face plate(antitheft) sd card & older maestro Idad, single phone pairing at 1 time,4 volts preamp, less sharp clear resistive screen. Kenwood is $50 more, sharper touch capacitive screen, has newer idad plus version, dual phone pairing,5volts preamp out, faster car play scolling of playlists. proprietary usb connection, uses google maps on phone no navigation built in
Five Star Car Stereo *Hey whats the name of the techno music with the guitar solo in the end?*
Sound quality wise, which one has better quality or dynamic? I prefer listening to low volume with lots of treble & bass.
I personally think I like the Kenwood better, I have owned the Pioneer 4200 which doesn't suck by any means. Good job keeping all of that straight Dean. The capacitive screen on the Kenwood is a BIG plus.
Just waiting on an update to fix a couple of issues.
detachable face, is that what they mean by mechanical display?
Not sure, but Dean could tell you.
+Jedi Jamo The One that is a big word for a motor that moves the display down so you can but the DVD behind the screen. The Pioneer 4200 does have a fully detachable face though. We do take it for you in our unboxing video.
Get can you guys do a Video on the Kicker Q class Comp Q and L7 please?
We have not brought that stuff in yet, but when we do you bet.
was trying to find info on the 9703s and couldn't find any so I called kenwood. apparently they are basically the same radio however the 9903 offers better stereo? planning on purchasing the 9703 so wanted to learn everything I could before I did. your videos are very helpful...........thanks again for taking the time to do them.
LOL that's the least of my concerns.......but would like everything else to work.......I'm used to waiting.......
Glenn Stewart they will both work with your camera, you will need an adapter on the car side. Sounds like you want the Pioneer
Gr8 video. I'm interested in getting a nex 4200 however i have a few questions in mind.. Will this support Divx whereby i can download videos/movies from youtube etc and convert to divx format? Will this deck read this file on a usb drive or can i view videos/movies using the mirror cast using iphone? I PS I hate using DVD's.
anthony castillo use the SD card with MP4 works great.
thanks and do i hv to format it once i hv downloaded it from youtube?
Five Star Car Stereo
Can the aux out support video and audio with a 3 way RCA splitter or am I better off with the yellow video out and using a 2 way splitter with the red and white RCAs.
For me the 3.5mm to 3 way RCA would be the preferred option to limit wires.
Thanks again!
Joseph Hyde the aux is an input not an output, you would need to use the yellow RCA out and the 1/8 to red/ white for rear video.
Curious about the RGB port on the Pioneer.
I don't know much about car audio but are you able to use the factory auxiliary jack/USB port with these head units.
bigjake97 most of the time yes, the either have an adapter plug or we make are own. Check PAC-audio for adapters
I have the 4200 and love it..Have it installed in a 06 odyssey...great on family Road trips. Only issue I have is the fm turner isnt that great, some local station come in like crap.
Make sure the blue wire in the factory wire harness adapter is connected. It powers the cars fm amplifier.
+Five Star Car Stereo didnt see a power ant. wire on the harness to the head unit.
+CLMDADE you can use the blue white or connect to the red.
+Five Star Car Stereo thx
Something like this...amzn.com/B01CHVLXU0
+UnknownHandle UnknownHandle yes that is them, they promise a lot for very little. I find it odd the Pioneer and Kenwood have not built anything like this.
Ya, But on Amazon this Kenwood model takes a beating with 2.5 star rating. Pioneer rating of the 4100 has some solid negatives, but overall good.
+UnknownHandle UnknownHandle the Kenwood shipped with a few problems, they just did a software update to fix that.
Great preview but showing a dvd vid would’ve helped me decide which had better visual
Try the mic, we use it all the time. The Kenwood is the new hotness right now.
Jessica Scott the Pioneer is not like the Kenwood. You are correct, you need headphones for the Pioneer
Could you do this for the more competetivly priced DDX9703s and the 4200NEX?
Sorry we do not carry the 9703.
yeah the 9703 is resistive touch screen, evens them out much more.
any chance u guys going to compare again with the new sony? ;p
Dingo Blue did you see this one
ua-cam.com/video/ttd4seMmq0g/v-deo.html
What’s the deal with not being able to scroll Satellite radio presets on ANY after market radio?
wow great channel!
John Nguyen thank you.
I was advised that one must go into the Pioneer menu and select either Apple or Android Auto, and that only one can be active at a given time.
ashemoski USB 1 is for apple and USB 2 is for android. You can only do one at a time. Yes you can choose one in smartphone settings but it is not totally necessary.
but which one sounds the best????
Bro I think it depend on music system
Which works better with the Navigation? Will the backup camera have the parking lines and automatically go on when the car is put in reverse? Also, I saw on Crutchfield that the Pioneer can accept the Iphone 8 and X, but the Kenwood only accepts the 7 or older for car play. Is that true? Thank you
I'm stuck and need help I don't know which one to buy should I buy the ken wood or the prioneer? Please help which one do u recommend
Does the 4200 support NTFS hard drives like the Kenwood does?
What is the Diff between the Kenwood 9903s and the 9902 with regard to features?
+Kevin Duncan Honestly I don't remember. The 9902 was only around for like 7 months before it was replaced by the 9903. The 9904 will be out in a week or two. I just remember being happy that the 9902 was gone.
Thanks for the Video..
The one feature you did not mention that for me is what is the deal breaker is that you can use an iPod Classic with the Pioneer but not the Kenwood. I was set to purchase the Kenwood until I saw that it will not work with an older iPod.
MrKriez yeah good call. I forget how many of them are still out there. Thank you
Which has the better radio?
I've heard of Apple Carplay, but who is Andre Atto? 0:45
Lol
I know you guys are busy but do you know where the DDX9903S starts to distort? I have one and planning on getting subs and do not have a DD1 to test. Thanks
Don Schultz so we just tested it for you and the volume will play all the way up with sub at plus 1 before clip. EQ is flat
Nice. I was reading and noticed several head units clip about 75% of max volume. This is good to know. Thanks for checking that out for me.
Don Schultz you bet, enjoy
What's the BEST head unit from Kenwood currently?
Klefky ddx9903s without navigation and the dnx893s with navigation
great information!.. so the pioneer avh does not have a compass.
Just an FYI
Sweet, thanks for the heads up!
If the NEX4200 and DDX9903S had a baby... everyone would buy it.
However i will like to know if
1.) i can convert my videos on divx and view on this stereo and which format in divx do i need to use?
2.) could i also watch netflix on this setup as well?? Thanks in advance.
anthony castillo 1 we use MP4 or m4v for video
2 it has an HDMI input if you can connect your phone to it.
thanks.. have you tried using divx home theatre?
4:30 - Power off
You obviously didn't look that hard through the available menu options from the grid on the right for the Kenwood. There's a power off button in there. Also, if you hold the home button, the unit will shut off. Like... off off... not standby. Literally to the state that the radio was in prior to the key being turned.
Does the Kenwood still have the carplay hiss issue?
Kingston73 that has been taken care of according to them
Are there any other stereos that can show different things on different screens with dual zone audio? Specifically what if I wanted to run nav up front while the kids watch a film in the back? Is that possible?
methodinsane yes the Pioneer 4200/ 6200/ 7200/ 8200 will do it and the Kenwood 9903/ 893/ 6903 / 693 will all do it.
Thank you for the reply. I was looking for the 3.5mm and did on see it on the Kenwood and also did not know the SWI-RC had a wire.
I am really happy got the nex 4200 over the kenwood
I'm thinking in getting it as well. I would like to know from you are there any think you discover that they didn't mention? thanks
Martin Arnaud never replied to you for a reason. Realized Pioneer units really are inferior to Kenwood units in many if not all criteria
Does the Kenwood eXcelon's DDX9903s comes with network mode like the pioneer ?
Ryan Drielsma the Nex radios do not do network mode.
Can either of these radios connect to a bluetooth OBDII sensor and display data on the screen?
Mike Jordan The Kenwood has that iDatalink Maestro RR (separate component you have to buy) Kenwood website has more info on that...if I had a Ken instead of a Pioneer, I would buy it and try it out, looks cool.
Mike Jordan what car do you have?
2008 Chevy Silvarado 1500 5.3
The iDatalink will be accessible anytime you like.
can you use the steering wheel controls with bought stereos??
Alberto Gomez yes, to retain steering controls you will need a control interface. Something like the PAC SwiRC or the Swi Cp2.
and with that i got all the functions? does it work well? i want the kenwood 9903s do you recomend it or the pioner is for a nissan np300
can you plug a 2tb hard drive to the 4200 ? You said in another video that the 2tb hard drive worked in the DDX.
Just found out the pioneer will not work with a 2tb hard drive for external music because it works on fat 32 . The Kenwood has the NTFS which allows you to use the bigger external hard drives like a 2tb . I would think that's a big feature difference . Another big difference is the linux dual processor in the Kenwood the pioneer only has a single processor thing move slower .
steve dental When adding those huge storage devices, would the Head unit take years to load/scan/search and read from??
In their ddx 9903s video he talks about it . give it a listen but it sounds like it works great .
Austin Dent actually we found out if you hold the home button it will power off the radio.
the Pioneer CAN pair 2 devices at once.....also the Pioneer has network mode as an option that the Kenwood does not....also Pioneer has "app radio live" which you'll never use but it's still a feature over the Kenwood but both are really great units! nice to see Kenwood stepping up their game because Pioneer was running the ddin game for good minute!!
+Five Star Car Stereo yeah lol appradio sucks!! So what does the "NEX" in the NEX Units stand for?
+Stephen Parrish yes App radio is a bit lacking. If it is an acronym for anything they never told us. I always thought it was supposed to mean next, because when they introduced them it was showcasing the new OS.
Larry Clements you should've address that comment to the original poster of this video as I am more than aware of what NEX meansif you would've read my Original comment thoroughly lol
The screen of the Kenwood looks more of a true black. Is this just a setting or camera setting?
David Parker no it is a better screen, they are using a capacitive touch rather than a clear resistive
Well now if only Kenwood offered a $100.00 rebate..
Great vid!!
They mention how on the Poineer only allows 1 custom background image. This is misleading because you can keep as many custom backgrounds as you want on your SD card and change it as often as you want. So yes there is only 1 icon for custom background, but that doesn't keep you from access ALL your custom image files on your card.
Roy Rogers so it is true from a certain point of view, Luke.
However with the Kenwood you can literally browse all your images soo quickly fromt same screen when ever you want to change. Trying that on the Pioneer will take 4 years lol
Is there any way to use/hook up the factory installed usb in your car to either of these two?
pardn yes what car do you have?
2014 Hyundai Sonata. there is a usb and auxiliary/3.5mm ports in the middle next to the cigarette lighter/power socket
pardn here is what we do
ua-cam.com/video/XCFmT1frn7M/v-deo.html
is the 997 good?
Believe me I own both and personally Kenwood single din kmb or something like that is much better than pioneers avh touch screen and gets much louder
Yes they are the same and yes the microbypass works on yours. The Kenwood is just ground the wire.
Just narrowed it down for me......Kenwood it is!
Does the Kenwood play video files?
Mike P MPEG 2 or 4
Five Star Car Stereo Anything. AVI, MP2/4 MKV etc
My Pioneer 4100 will play pretty much anything. I'm thinking of switching to Kenwood but want to know if I can still play movies and videos just like the Pioneer.
I think Kenwood headunits have a better front and UI design than pioneer
Suh Duh no question. They certainly do
Will both allow for an external USB drive like a 64GB flash drive or a 1TB hard drive?
No, the Pioneer will do only thumb drives, the Kenwood will do both.
The Big Ticket we could have, but we were going for both top of the lines.
Talk more about the gps on the kenwood
Does either of these allow for hdmi input from a iPhone to RCA output for an overhead monitor? Or does that not exist?
No that does not exist in the 12 volt world yet. It is because of the copyright of the data going over the HDMI. We do his for what you want.
ua-cam.com/video/33f0pP_146s/v-deo.html
Thank you
Kinda like when looking at big screens at Walmart, which one looks nicer to our eyes , hdtv compared to plasma ex
I am totally torn. on one hand, I want the Pioneer for the detachable face and iPod classic support for my Wrangler... on the other I want the capacitive screen, fast charge for my 6P. I like the Kenwood ui better....but....agggghhh!
Sanderson Tattersall yeah that detachable face in the Jeep is nice. That is our number 1 Jeep radio. But like you I like that new Kenwood
I have a Hyundai Elantra Touring 2011. Trying to decide between Pioneer AVH-X391BH or AVH-4200NEX. I have an Android phone.
