This guy switches between stances so skillfully, it's ridiculous. He had an answer for everything.
ikr I thought he was a tas bot with how god like he was with execution lol
It's how I wish I could play Gen...
I don’t know if he’s using pad or stick, but if he’s using pad HolyCr4P 😳🤯🔥
I was gonna comment on that too. Natural Gen.
@@Chadius 😄 same here. I'm actually going play sfa3 to see if I figure out some of gen fu play style
That final combo with super and the air-throw was SO sick! Instantly reminded me when Xian's Gen started to body everyone in SF4. Crazy props to people that just sticks to their characters and evolve them to competitive status so everyone has to learn how to fight them.
Alpha 3 is my favorite Street Fighter so this was a treat. Thanks Justin.
That was straight sauce. I was like damn…
It was in the making too. You have a lot of options after super but it’s all dependent on how the air tech. Justin did a few air blocks after super earlier so that was the right call
@@fredmitchell5987 And he did air-throw just enough times to avoid being predictable, so that read worked like a charm.
I wish he did the Level 2 Dash Super into Uppercut/Level 1 Air Grab super, that shit can work if done quickly enough but i didn't see it :(((
12:48 12:52 12:58
That anti-air grab he does makes me scream whenever I get hit with it. So much damage and such a good answer.
Jesus Christ I have never seen an alpha3 Gen player so good. I knew Gen goes deep, but this guy has broke the code
Haqq's one of the best for sure.
Alioune was the top A-Gen back in the day before SF4 dropped (at least not counting Japan).
VER recently won Ultimate Zero 14 with Gen as well (largest A3 tournament).
Yup first time I see a good gen in alpha3
12:54 that tech trap was sick
Haqq 215 is a fellow player from Philly. He has, by far the best footsies I've ever played with in any SF game. Several long sets with, who I think, is the best Fightcade/GGPO A3 player. My tage is Audioruby. He helped me alot in getting good at not just Alpha but fighting games in general. One of the best quick/smart decision makers in gaming. He could smoke you with Vism but prefers Aism. And yes his Gen is oppressive, but he plays almost the whole cast at the highest of level. Jwong already caught that work from his Adon.
Does he have any streaming channel? I would love to see him play again.
Wouldn't say "In gaming". That's a ridiculous statement.
In fighting games maybe. Absolutely not gaming in general.
Audiodoody
@@nexxusty I think the reason you consider that such a ridiculous statement is a fundamental lack of appreciation for the decision making involved in high level fighting games. Either because you haven’t experienced it yourself, and/or haven’t been involved with it in other genres. I’ve done both.
I’ve won Halo tournaments, been to Grand Finals in Madden, Tekken and Street fighter tournaments (All locals mind you, I’m not some big name). And I’ve been analyzing several genres of competitive gaming since before streaming was a thing, when you had to fish for cassette tapes. So I can make the comparison.
Competitive gaming boils down to reactions, game knowledge, mechanical skill and decision making. I respect other genres and the life time of mastery it can take to compete at those levels. But fighting games have you cycle through its giant speed chess wheelhouse of choices in a way that other types of games pale in comparison at the higher level.
TLDR It wasn’t just a random statement. The praise for this guy is well earned, try playing him for yourself.
Bro where is the scene in Philly? I want to play and see where I actually stand lol. Haven’t been competitive in years but I love good fights
This guy was the first person I played on Alpha3 ggpo. I thought if this is the level of random A3 players there's no point challenging anyone else after this.
I love Gen in Alpha 3, he has so many options and playstyles it's very hard to master but when you do he is the most satisfying character to win with and his level of disrespect is unmatched "you a big fool" 😂
hm 🙏🏻
That Gen has crazy good fundamentals. Enjoyed watching that match. GGs Justin.
There is something very peaceful about watching one of the best FGC pros in the world just enjoy doing the thing he loves. Unashamedly just having fun. Justin ❤️ your channel. From one Justin to another. Keep rocking bro.
Bro. He's like.. yelling "Please die" while there's a baby there. ...
Wake up to how rotten life is. something peaceful. What a joke.
That gen made made sf4 gen look like a chump. That super with the jump throw read was lethal.
They had to make Gen a low tier after this lmao
Dude Gen is in my top 3 favorite SF characters, seeing this guy use him in Alpha 3 without Vism is so satisfying to watch. Good shit to both of you.
Gen is EASILY the coolest character in the franchise. And his A 3 iteration is the most awesome one! Also, contrary to most other viable characters, he doesn’t rely on V Ism. Gen is actually better in A Ism, which fits him well thematically as a Swiss Army knife type of character.
@@PetterNe So i used him correctly by not picking V or X, that's good to know.
I personally played him in X. He's a lot easier to use cuz you don't have to do stance switches.
Gen is a great V character tbh. I think they’re both viable if the Gen can reliably crouch cancel out of the V which is hard than he’s a little better imo. Once that guy starts canceling the fierces into super he’s going to be a god
This video is exactly why I love to watch you play. Your observation and adjustments are fantastic and fascinating to watch whether you win or lose.
I just realized I like watching Justin's matches because (besides being into a lot of the same games I like) he's fun to watch whether he wins or loses, and actually I almost like it sometimes when he does lose because he's not arrogant about it as if he's some expert know-it-all that got cheated when things don't go his way. He's just there to improve his skill and enjoy the game no matter what, and he can still be surprised and still get beaten sometimes, but he always gives it his best and keeps getting better. Justin just has a basically decent attitude towards fighting games in general.
@@howdyouknow True that! Joe, he does plays for keeps and he can also admit defeat and recognizes skill....12.54 after The combo, his face says it all.
12:11 The virgin V-ism player: Spends meter all the time throughout the rounds.
The Ultimate Chad A-ism Gen Player: No meter needed. Overwhelming neutral game. Sure of the comeback. Already thinking and preparing for Round 3.
Gen's alpha3 stage music is so dope! sorely underrated
I don't like watching you lose. I like watching you respond to losing in such a mature way.
Alpha 3 is no joke. Probably the best SF game ever.
Oh yeah!
I think 3rd strike is The goat, but yeah, alpha 3 is reallyyy good
It’s amazing, but USFIV is undoubtedly the best one from a technical standpoint. It’s masterfully balanced and its high-level gameplay is extremely interesting.
Yeah, for me Alpha 3 was my most favorite SF game ever.
Me, street fighter alpha 2 gold is the best..😁
What we DIDN'T see was all of the nasty setups Gen has into his Crane anti-air super. I was certain I was going to see the 4-hit Mantis anti-air into Crane kick super juggle. That super grabs you whether you flip out or not. Insane.
Flip activate gets you out of that setup. That's why he wasn't going for it much.
@@KyokujiFGC Wait...did something change? I remembered that super grabbing you no matter which direction you flipped. Granted, that was pretty much the first version of the arcade release.
@@TheRealFreshOJ Activate breaks the freeze from the super, and the invincibility frames give you time to press a button or fall out of range. Timing is tight, but it gets you out.
Gotcha. I was looking at it from the "pre V-ism" Era. My bad. We didn't know how nasty V-ism could really be until Diago Umehara came over to the US and played Alex Valle. Yet another handy V-ism benefit.
12:52 is justin wong mouth open face expression when he got that Gen Epic combo to take the lead and the air grab. That did it for me. I all on the ground lol. That face expression priceless, it's like where the hell did all this come from lo.
Announcer: "That was the best fight I ever saw!!" Great seeing my character being played on my "ism" ;-)
He has good buttons and a low jump arc which makes it hard to counter him with AA. Also his waterfall kick is insanely active and will hit you even if you think you can hit him.
he also gets 2 jump arcs that are both good
@@ghaspghasping5526 also very true...he is hard to counter at times because of that shit 😂😂😂
His whiff air grab makes him fall to the ground faster. That's why Justin couldn't land AA activates reliably.
I was #1 on arcade collection on switch using mostly gen at one point haha still got pics of my ranking now!
I want to play you... Here comes a new challenger! Lol
@@chrissmith8216 lmao i hardly play these days mate and lost my skill somewhat but if youre on switch we can have a few matches
@@xVNDL_ :^( im on PSN
I haven't seen a Gen this legit since Xian's on SF4. Wow!
Justin, you and Haqq played like warriors.
GG's!!!
It's fascinating to see you adapt to such playstyle in a matter of 2 to 3 rounds. Impressive as always, Justin.
I never seen Gen be used like that ever. Just use him flawless. Kudos man! Mad respect
Don from Dons arcade in SoCal has a nasty Gen. We ran a set a while back and he is nasty.
Gen is really good but he takes skill to use at the more highest and effective level.
4:38 that's the sickest sf super ever
Omae wa mou shundeiru
This is the best street fighter ever, the whole game had everything 🙌🏽
I prefer SFA3 UPPER, the roster made the game complete.
It could have been, if it wasn’t for V-ism infinites…
@@KenMasters. Alpha 3 Max took it even further.
@@81carlos
Alpha 3 Max? Nah.
What the PSP truly needed is Alpha Anthology with new and exclusive game-modes.
Also, adding Eagle, Ingrid, Maki, and Yun made zero sense, because it causes plot holes and continuity errors.
The game they should’ve been put in is the PS and XBOX ports of 3rd Strike.
@@PSNMyfoot V-ism style was nerfed in Alpha 3 Upper because of the infinites. V-ism crybaby players hate on that version because of the nerf. If you go to the chat room in Fightcade and bring up Alpha 3 upper they start whining about it. I never really used V-ism. Mostly A-ism, so it never really affected my game.
FWIW....Mantis and Crane Jumping medium kicks are both crossups for Gen. I had the pleasure of experiencing this from James Chen back when he'd make Gen look like a Marvel character. A-ism Gen is so much fun to play!
Omg that Gen is so incredible. I had no idea he could even move like that, what the heck.
Thanks to the editor for the explanation on what the finger jab does, because I wouldn’t have known at all otherwise lol. Had no idea Gen had a move like that, what the heccckkkk
OMG. I can't believe he got you with "the finger". hahaha that was sick
Back in Alpha's heyday I don't think I ever saw anybody around my way who could play Gen. It's cool to see someone playing a character like that to their potential, I always wondered what it would like like.
Your gameplay videos are always godlike to watch, win or lose. Thanks for the uploads justin and editor
12:44-13:15 - best comeback wow. That air-grab yo. Nice match!
man this game is actually crazy. I'd love to see it come back in some way
Gen and the players who use him are seriously underrated and he's only in the Old Street Fighters so its one of the major benefits of fighting Old School Street Fighter games!
That throw read on the super recovery at the end was godlike
Gen was the first fighting game character to introduce me to whole new level of complexity and how skillful you gotta be to get a hand of a character with stances. I never played him efficiently aside to my other main Rose. This is by far one of the best Gen videos i watched so far. Ggs.
OMG great set had me going crazy watching it. Keep it up Justin.
12:48
That's when I knew.......
THAT WAS A SICK LAST GAME!!!! That was some Grand Finals s***!!
I always get a kick out of it when I see someone like Jwong even he's like please get away from me your scaring me. I mean I know Jwong is a Pro fighting game player, but its humbling to see he still gets those OH SH!T moments too. Thanks for always making great video's and being such a awesome fighter game community player. That Gen player was insanely good.
Bro the entire sequence after 12:52 was insane!. Especially alpha counter to stop the V activation...ODDDD!!.
Can't lie, that Gen countdown super is CRAZY 😂 & 'that's not a mix up' funny as hell 🤣
Also Justin/Yipes/MvC2/Commentary 🙏🏾
One of the best A3 matches I have ever seen, forreal. Amazing stuff on both sides, that time bomb mechanic from Gen had me hype AF.
The one character I wish to see in SF6, Gen. Glad to see there is more justice for Gen players.
I dont play gen at all and i completely agree, he would be a great addition.
Holy shit, insane match especially that last round my jaw dropped man! Makes me wanna play Alpha 3 again!
I'm in no way an A3 expert but I always liked Gen and thought that his options in A-ISM are probably the strongest. I even think he's decent in X-ISM. He loses a lot of complexity there but is still fairly powerful when played well, even though it's arguably overall the weakest ISM choice for just about any character.
Man that last alpha counter was a perfect use of it and his meter. Instead of using it to do chip damage, he waited cause he knew Justin was going to activate V-ism.
That was so fun to watch. I never really seen Gen matches back during my time playing SFA3. And 6:10 had me laughing.
I also got exposed by that overhead, Def predicted he was going to DP
That has to be one of the most savage Alpha 3 fights I've seen in this channel.
I really like the way JW here is just having fun. Win or lose. That's what gaming is all about. Subscribed.
@7:54 "I feel good about myself." after the big-o word CHEAP came on the screen. I like that.
Man Justin this is some of the most wholesome content on UA-cam. I love it. Keep up the good work.
In Brasil we can say that this Gen joga y joga. This match made me interested in Alpha 3, i'll give a try in fightcade.
Not gonna lie you the best fgc content creator out 😤😤
Gen is propped up to be this legendary ancient master but never seemed to live up to the hype til right now 😮. I hope 6 brings back Gen or has another (non-Oro) character like that!
Huh? He was great in some iterations of IV but required a lot of skill, which fits the character well thematically.
GEN HYPE! I was BEYOND hyped to see him in your thumbnail - thought he’d been confirmed for VI! Is this player Dark perhaps? He’s a well-known Alpha Gen player.
"Neutch" LOOOOOOL I dunno why but the concept of neutral plus the way it SOUNDS makes me laugh every time
Switching between the stances is super hard and requires great timing. That’s a great opponent.
4:50 Ok that sonic drowning music edit there was excellent.
Gen is my fav character ever. Specially in Alpha 2, I remember destroying Shin Akuma repeatedly back in my day with gen
6:04 HAHAHAHA
He was definitely top tier in Zero 2 along with Sagat.
@@exeortegarubio Top tier?? Not really, we have Rose, Sakura, Rolento and Gouki in that game, Gen is probably high A
Have you played FFLNS ULTIMATE V.03 using Master Gen? And if so how was your use with him...
@@DARKONE-E.I.C.O.S.A.T. I never played any mugen
*counter hit* damn
That comeback round at the very end..... wow.
The end though. Nah........ Followed up with the insincere statement of he's so good with the expression on your face that doesn't concur. Lol. Priceless.
Btw ty jwong for the triple ko podcast reference to sf giant attack such a beautiful game I went back and played again and loved the animations and stages forgot how good it was
What an amazing set! That humble pie at the end😭
Wow what a skilled player he had an answer for everything, mind blown🤯
it's like watchin' some of those old "kung fu" movies. fr
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Justin was so scared... He was so surprised by how fast Gen was landing.
Editors, you are golden with that cat meme edit. It fits so well the salt given and taken at that moment.
I wanted to thank you justin for your mk2 video. i was one of those guys bustin' your bawls every week askin' you for that vid. Seems to me you're one of those few Ytubers that really take into consideration the opinions and suggestions from your viewers. thanks very much
Bro the Spongebob tune at 10:10 was perfect 👍🏻
Not to take anything away from Haqq (who played great here 😃), but I feel like Gen is hard to fight in SF partly because his stances give him so many tools that it takes a ton of dedicated match-up knowledge/experience to avoid getting exposed, and it's hard to actually *get* the experience because he's played so rarely. Sort of like Jhun or Mary in KOF 2k2 often outperforming their tier because they're just so different from other characters.
I see, but It takes even more hours trying to master him
@@fidacuca That's the thing with maining unpopular characters, though: you only have master them once, and you'll be experienced in all the common match-ups along the way. Your opponents likely have to each go out of their way to understand the match-up from the other side. Not saying that secretly makes low tier characters good, but it's part of why there are some low tier characters who tend to do better than their ranking suggests.
Love those sound FX man. The monkey gets me everytime. 😂
3:45 he gets genuinely happy, that makes me happy :)
12:53, yooooo!!! That air grab
Acknowledgement of another great player is an indication humbleness. Ggs.
Justin still posts when losing. Not many people does that this long.
+respect
I love the monkey making sounds in Mr. Wongs videos. I subscribed on that alone haha.
Love how the momentum shifted with the outfit change
Alpha 3 was my first SF and I mastered Gen. Took him to SFIV and had a blast. Wish they'd bring him back
This was so awesome. Credit to the Gen. Really sick playx
His Gen is crazy. Great set.
12:52 That was sick 😲
Justin looked like he was having a lot of fun wit these matches.
You dat dude bro, I look forward to your notifications all da time. Good stuff to keep it a buck.💯🔥
12:54 that one combo! Good lord!
I lmaod so hard at that "well be right back"
Dang, that last round made it look like they held back for much of the set.
"You are big fool." (Just kidding, love you Justin and love seeing my boy out there mixing it up!)
Every time I eat a meal I watch your vids lol. Keep ‘em coming!!
i love that you showcase other good players you encounter, top content!
Great match it's dope how you punk and Smug, show wins and loses on your channels ✊🏽
Just amazing!!!! A3 is such a good wholesome game!!!! totally fun!! Btw, we need somehow to get Daigo's akuma in Fightcate A3.. now THIS would be Legendary.
Awesome match, both fighters are geniuses. That match got so much hype 🔥
12:52.. that was some sick stuff right there
JWongg: "but if you guys want to..."
Me: jump 10 seconds
One of best Gens I have seen, I love playing a Gen but at that level is incredible. Hats off to the Gen player and to you Justin for being a good sport about it. 🎩 😃
Wooooow. I swear, I held on to the chair until the last milessecond. What a sensational match. I feel inspired to continue to the end in these difficult online challenges. Thnak you Justin. Let's gooo!
Gen is by far my favorite character in Alpha 3. Tons of normals and supers. Great range. His Crane jump in roundhouse hits twice. Mantis has insane links. Playing him is so much fun
That last counter to your V-ISM was soooooo good Jesus Christ!!! As always my man GGs. Can't wait to see some more high level FGC content and you never fail to deliver my man, even if your cheeks get clapped 💯
