The last vision board was super impactful for very simple reasons- Kratos never saw himself as anything more than a monster (and Heimdal even touched on this during the fight) so to see himself as a god of something good just shook him. I freaking love this game!

I think in the original Prophecy, the Giants saw what happens if Atreus potentially looks into the tear, that seemed like a choice that would have mattered infinitely more than any other moment. And as a result of that choice, Odin is the one who’s soul he whispers out. I can imagine another path, where Odin and Loki fight and beat Kratos, and then Loki asks Kratos the same question he asked Odin, and Kratos responds something similar to What Odin did, cause in the alternative timeline Kratos didn’t change. He then whispers out Kratos’ soul like in the prophecy of the Giants. Perhaps Laufey knew that if they both knew it too early, it would fulfill the prophecy.

The point Max was saying at the end was, if the protagonist of a story always gets their way, it’s a boring uninteresting story. The game has to kick your ass a little bit and make you feel bad or like “man this is rough” in order for you to feel that sense of elation upon completing it.

The moment we march into Asgard for war I felt an adrenaline rush like I had not felt since the Battle Of Gondor in Return Of The King and the final battle scene in Endgame. This is one of not just greatest games I’ve ever played, it’s also one of the best sequel/conclusions to a saga I have ever seen on screen!
I cried no less than 4 times at this game, both at heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. And now we have seen not only Atreus/Loki grow into his own, we have seen Kratos finally do something I thought impossible…..open his heart not just for his wife and son, but to the world. The moment he breaks down after seeing his tryptic shrine and sees that even after all the horrible things he had done in Greece he becomes a good, caring and beloved god of all the Nine Realms I cried just as hard with him. And Atreus/Loki making the decision to leave his father and journey to find the rest of his people, I was damn near broken, this must be what parents feel like when their kids graduate and leave home.
The one thing that I had a problem with is that the “true ending” is with the funeral with Brok. I loved how it was done but I don’t want the conclusion to this game to be not just saying goodbye to Brok but seeing Sindri completely broken, and implying that he may never recover from his grief and guilt. My hope is that if we get a sequel with Atreus it will be of him helping Sindri while Sindri learns to forgive Atreus and himself. Despite that, this is not just a masterpiece of a game but one of the greatest video games ever made. And in my opinion the true 2022 Game Of The Year.
Thank you Corey Barlog, Eric Williams, the cast, and all the great geniuses behind making this game. I will treasure it always.😭😭😭👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🪓
Also I hope Max one day does a Lore Run of both of the Norse saga God Of War games.🤞🤞🤞

I mean, we gotta admit, A big factor to Max preferring GoW 2018 more than ragnarok has to be because he didn't play it in the HIGHEST difficulty.
A lot of why he spent soooooo much more time in this game is because he kept dying too much due to the difficulty. And let's face it, in the lower difficulty, it would be much easier to just blow past everything without engaging with the game's mechanics as both the damage you take and damage you deal are much more balanced.
But no, he had to choose give me god of war, got stuck in a lot of fights and barely got through most of them. I mean I love your playthroughs Max, but this one was rough. I didn't know what I was expecting when you could barely combo in dmc 5, or can barely dodge in spiderman ps4, but damn. Max barely learned the mechanics of this one at the end. And he chose to do it in a difficulty that demands actual skill and attention from the player. So he kinda messed up the game's pace for himself right there.
After finally watching his entire playthrough for this game, I think a lot of the feelings he got of the game overstaying it's welcome, actually came from him being overzealous about finishing as much of the game as he did in this game mode.

@@anjodanielsuper for sure. I love him, but he does do goofy stuff/say goofy shit sometimes. Say one thing and do another yanno. And whats strange is that some fighting games have such deep and sophisticated mechanics and yet he’s amazing and will pick up a new game with new mechanics and in like one stream he’s got it down and is wrecking ass. I guess thats the skill that comes with 30 years of experience but dudes also just got the natural talent and understanding of it. So its superrrrrr weird when it comes to games like this which have a lot of mechanics shit to use/do, and will utilize so little of it. I honestly think a second playthrough might help. He would probably never do it let alone stream it, but it helped me a lot. Played 2018 6 times, first on give me a challenge and then two new game plus’ on gmgow. Then I did two gmgow new games and one new game plus on gmgow. And even still, Gmgow in ragnarok kicked my fucking asssssss. I was using like half the mechanics and i used the raven tear armor for so long before trying anything else because nothing appealed to me(there are some wildddd builds but I wasnt gonna find those while barely understanding the new mechanics). Raven tear is good but the point is I played the game in a sort of one-dimensional way first time around. It was my second playthrough that a lot more of the mechanics clicked with me and i did soooooo much better and had such a better time with the difficulty. Anyways sorry for the long comment, I love god of war and I love max so I can get carried away lmaoooo

I agree. The game felt long to him because he insisted on playing it on the hardest difficulty, so dying so much sapped most of the enjoyment out of the game. It's why I always play on normal difficulty. I want to enjoy myself, not get stuck and frustrated for hours. It must be a weird ego thing. Sadly, it ruined the pace of his entire playthrough.

Maybe its because It was a second playthrough but I have to NO DAMAGE fights to get a challenge now as The game even on GIVE ME GOW isn't THAT HARD especially compared to 2018 where you did Chip Damage with no moves basically until mid game. He didn't try to learn the mechanics of the game at all or look at the indicators of incoming attacks he tried playing it like a Souls game for some reason when its an RPG God of War Action Game.

Let me help with the Jormangandur thing.
2018 Jormie IS the Jormie that Loki creates via the soul marble in grandmas house. The serpent grows super fast since he’s been imparted with a giant soul and heads straight to Ragnarök and fights Thor.
From here he gets sent way back in time. Like way back. From that point he ages into bearded, mossy faced 2018 Jormie we know and love. We meet him in 2018, then again briefly before heading to Ironwood and then his old self just chills in midgar during Ragnarök.
So he probably has a recollection of the events of Ragnarök but either says nothing in 2018 to not change destiny or he legitimately only recognizes Loki from the brief few seconds he saw him after Loki created him but doesn’t know exactly why he’s familiar in 2018 due to hundreds of years passing.
So the serpent at Ragnarök was the one that grew really fast from Grandmas house. He gets sent back and ages into 2018 serpent. He lies dormant in the ice during winter/Ragnarök while his younger self fights Thor only to be sent back in time.
It seems very confusing but it’s not. Hope this helps.
Edit: I’d also like to add that it’s funny that in GoW lore it’s entirely possibly that Jormie only hates Thor so much because he is imparted with the soul of a Giant. Giants were completely wiped out by Thor and now the soul from the marble has a vessel to intact revenge. The whole thing was honestly a really clever take on the Norse myth of Loki birthing the serpent and making it fit within GoW lore.

If anything, Kratos would likely kill Thor, ignore Thrud, make an enemy out of her (possibly, Sif would've explained that Odin is a bad influence) like he did with Freya at the end of GoW 2018. At large, very little would've changed - the Asgard would fall to Ragnarok, Freyr would likely survive because he wouldn't have to hold off Ragnarok to save Midgardians and other "innocents". Yes Atreus would've been less compassionate at the end, and they likely would've killed Odin instead of having Sindri smash the marble, but the outcome would be the same

Personally, that comparison is extremely unfair. Elden Ring did not have a heavy, focused narrative like this. If you're going to do a bunch of side quests, then the story is going to feel longer. I did 4-5 hours of extra side quests as I went through Ragnarok, and beat the game on normal difficulty at about 27 hours (it felt like the perfect length). I got the Platinum at just over 40 hours. Max's first playthrough here ends at about 51 hours, so with the added difficulty plus all the extra stuff he did, I don't see why he doesn't recognize that if the narrative feels too long, it is because he didn't play solely going through the narrative.
Obviously play how you want, I just think if you're going to complain about the narrative length, understand that the actual story length is 23-27 hours, not 51-54 hours; and certainly not compare a story driven game to an open world game that is far less narrative driven and is a different type of game. Not to say Ragnarok is better than Elden Ring or anything like that, but it's an odd comparison to make.

It's definitely much better paced when you are not dying constantly to random mini bosses because the game is on the hardest difficulty. Also, it kinda takes the fun away from the combat for the first half+ of the game because the weapons do such little chip damage that it takes the weight out of it. I think No Mercy is the best balanced of the difficulty settings. Why Elden Ring is different in Max’s mind, and mine as well, is because their games are built around difficult combat, so it’s more tuned- it doesn’t feel as cheap when you die because you a) expect difficulty and b) it’s most often your fault and you learn from it. FromSoft has learned how to deliver the perfect combat reward system derived from their difficulty- Santa Monica doesn’t build their games with this in mind so it’s understandable they turn to cheap tactics to sub for wasting dev hours on actually tuning a difficulty setting only 10% of players will try.

I don’t think this game is really that long. I was able to almost completely 100% the game in less than 50 hours. But I thinks it’s that all of the side content is meaningful to the gameplay experience and story they’re telling. I think story seems so long because it all has major plot relevance and stays ramped up in excitement throughout its entirety.

I think the fact of the matter is that you took so long to finish it, your fan base adores you for good reason but having the content comeout so late as opposed to the rest of the internet means many of them went off to watch others play it because people were so hungry for the story, and they came back to see your reaction and want you to have the best experience possible so they "try to help you" by backseating asking you to do certain content.

Thus surviving and Odin died instead. Faye destroyed the future part of their mural with the hope/desire for kratos and Atreus to have a different future. It was always kratos in the mural. He made different decisions and they resulted in different outcomes. Outcomes where kratos lives and has his redemption.

Ragnarok tried to balance too many plates. I felt that Ragnarok itself should have been a situation occurring more in the ether, with Kratos and Atreus working to stave off its effects while Odin and his acolytes try to impose themselves on their lives. With the amount present throughout, it could have been two games. Freya's turn was hasty in my view, and Freyr's tedious dude-bro act wore thin, as did some of the more self-aware elements of the game. In trying to say something about everyone, it took the focus away from developing parts of its core. I understand the writers wanted our protagonists to amass a war band to fight Asgard, only to choose another destiny, but it felt bloated and underdeveloped in parts. That said, what it did get right ended up being spectacular and thrilling. I prefer 2018, but there's no denying GoWR's obscene quality across the board. I had a great time with it and I'm going to enjoy getting to 100% over the next few weeks.
