I've seen a video doing those on any character and they all had this mustard-y blood. Maybe it was edited, but looked as if in-game there was some filter setting, like some streamer mode.
I like how a lot of the animals still resemble their regular forms. Pufferfish Rain is purple, Hyena Havik has the burned mouth, Porcupine Baraka has jacked up teeth, etc. It’s a nice touch.
And they’re what is known as Facultative herbivores. Some herbivores are obligate (aka they only eat plants), Facultative herbivores eat mostly plants but sometimes meat, most animals are omnivores, then there’s Facultative carnivores (the opposite of the facultative herbivores) and the obligate carnivores eat ONLY meat.
Ashrah takes the cake for me, the surprise, misdirection and a sudden torrent of rainbow flames was 11/10... Also makes sense that the character that wants to purify her demonic self and become a heavenly being to become a heavenly being who purifies curses, blights and diseases
The one thing that gets me is that Flytraps have a toxin in their mouth they use to dissolve their food. So it feels like a missed opportunity to not have them melt inside the mouth.
yet a Flytrap isnt even an animal and thats not how they kill insects, they should've made it trap and absorb them, literally melt their bodies, how could a missed oppertunity like that be overlooked? It sounds way better than what they did here

Mileena's is, to be more specific, an Orchid Mantis! They evolved the ability to camouflage amongst orchids in order to easily catch prey, so they come in a BEAUTIFUL range of colors.
Not only that, but it perfectly fits Mileena's femme fatale "Will fuck your brains out before eating your face" Kind of persona. After all, female mantis are known for eating the male's head (just like she did) right after they reproduce.
Homelander as a griffin was a interesting take for his character. Smoke going Kong Fantastic idea. The idea of Liu Kang becoming a phoenix is an interesting choice which I completely understand since like he’s mostly associated as a dragon so the change here is that he’s reborn from that which I like it’s a great take on his character However the one with Kung Lao as a tiger is my personal favorite 10 out of 10 on it

How did you all miss that the Phoenix is a reference to LK being the one who resets timeline? Its an easy 10/10. I love the Dragon, but it's been done so well in 2, 4 and 9, plus it was represented very well in his launch Fatal
6:14 I think they could have done a little bit better with Liu Kang's phoenix. I like where they were going, but the phoenix disappears too fast and pile of ash appears way too quickly. The way it currently is shot makes the pile of ash awkwardly just appear, despite the seemingly concussive force of the phoenix explosion. Had they made it so that the ash rained down and collected into said pile of ash, then I would have been satisfied with it. If I were doing this animality, I would have had it be slightly a little longer. Where the camera switches from the charred corpse inside to the exterior shot of the phoenix, I would have had the phoenix just be consumed by the fire, but not explosively. Instead, I would have had the flames burn super huge and bright, then hastily die down. Then, before the flames are all but snuffed out, the camera switches to focus on a single remaining feather, which drops towards the remaining dying flames and the pile of ash. It begins to play the "Animality", then the feather hits the pile of ash, right as the last flames are snuffed out, and the phoenix rises from the ash.
Max pretty much hit the nail on why I find it hard to care for modern fatalities, pre-MK9 fatalities knew how to mix brutal and fun. I still remember how iconic Joker's fatality was in MKvsDC.
One thing I love about the animalities is that they're animated with a sense of conscious behavior that you'd see in a PERSON. They use bits of their anatomy in ways an animal would never think to, like Scorpion using his tail to toss them up for a claw slash, or Shang Tsung being a cobra, but using his teeth to twist their head off rather than poisoning them or swallowing them whole.
Also, the funny thing? Nitara's battle cries and sounds weren't Megan Fox. Those were Cristina Vee. They knew she was so bad, they got someone else to do those too.
I still can't fathom having an accomplished voice actor on your payroll only too swap her with an actor who is only famous because she showed up in transformers

Ermac’s is easily my favourite by a MILE. Being a huge mythology fan, the locusts being on Ermac is a perfect reference to the 10 plagues, with one of them being a swarm of locusts.
I do posts on Aztec history and archeology, and Kitana's Hummingbird animality here shoulda been what Kotal got instead of his Jaguar stuff. For whatever reason the games/comics keep calling Kotal "Buluc", a Maya god, but Kotal is clearly based on Huitzliopotchli, a patron god of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital: Kotal's moveset and gear names use Nahuatl (Aztec language) words, Kotal's variations being tied to War, Sun, and Sacrifice all mesh with Huitz.'s associations, and Huitz. also has blue-green body paint and wields the fire serpent Xiuhcoatl as a weapon, and Kotal's concept art shows that was inspiration of his snake sickles. Huitzliopotchli was tied to Hummingbirds, his name even meaning something like "Left/South sided hummingbird" or "Hummingbird from the left/south": Hummingbirds were tied to warfare and combat, both perhaps because their quick movements and long beak evokes swift combat and strikes and males tend to get into fights with each other, but also because soldiers who died in combat were thought to be reborn in a floral realm of the sun where they suckled on nectar as Hummingbirds or butterflies.
I think you put more effort here into the idea than they did. Gotta remember Mortal Kombat characters are loosely based on cultural stereotypes and pop culture references rather than anything actually historically accurate. I'm pretty sure when designing Kotal they just went "Hey lets make an Aztec-ish character to replace our Genghis Kahn reference character, kinda like Ogre from Tekken 3 but with a backstory full of plot armor that he'll never have in the games."
@@shinzero0271 To be clear, I think Kotal is actually the least-badly handled Mesoamerican fighting game character: Tam-Tam and Huitzil aren't even really Mesoamerican, Ogre is as far as I can tell a complete nothing sterotype, and Necalli is even worse in his default form (tho I think his story mode form is a visually neat reference to some Mesoamerican mosaic artwork). Aside from his outfit and the jaguar elements instead of the hummingbird ones, Kotal is a pretty solid adaptation of Huitzliopotchli, and I'm willing to give MK slack since as you say, it's entire theme is over the top 80's action movies and those were filled with sterotypes.
Reptile’s animality reminds me of Poison Ivy’s super in Injustice 2 and every single time I see Tanya I am going to picture Patrick laughing and saying “it’s a giraffe!!”
You know, I think I like the animality better because they don’t have to end with “here’s my character standing next to my assist while we do a pose a respectful distance away from a pile of guts.” They get to get those incredible animals framed in a way that is unique to each one.
I've said this before: I think it would be funny if the T-1000 just turned back into his human form, because humans are technically animals and he's technically "transforming"

That is so well said and I fully agree. The Fatality shift to be as gruesome and uncomfortable, rather than gory but fun has been very unfortunate. Tis why these are so great - since you can tell that the animators had FUN making these, rather than accumulated trauma...
Homelander is pretty good, hes a monster so he got a monster verison of a Eagle, Americas fav animal. Peacemaker is basically that video with the eagle with guns and the some America Fuq' yEAH playing in the back
I think it’s more so to show the variety of people this interpretation will be able to appeal to, so we have the original first look at him and it’s very serious in nature then you have this look which is more so fun and bright. I definitely think he’s looking to make a version that’ll be more in line with the spirit of the Superman everyone’s more familiar with. Obviously people’s mileage may vary but I personally love it.

Max pretty much hit the nail on why I find it hard to care for modern fatalities, pre-MK9 fatalities knew how to mix brutal and fun. I still remember how iconic Joker's fatality was in MKvsDC.

One thing I love about the animalities is that they're animated with a sense of conscious behavior that you'd see in a PERSON. They use bits of their anatomy in ways an animal would never think to, like Scorpion using his tail to toss them up for a claw slash, or Shang Tsung being a cobra, but using his teeth to twist their head off rather than poisoning them or swallowing them whole.
As an animal nerd I love how accurate they real animals were. Lowkey nerded out when they got a scorpions mouth anatomically correct
With how gladiator inspired Reiko's design and gear is in this game I'm surprised he doesn't turn into A lion.

Also, the funny thing? Nitara's battle cries and sounds weren't Megan Fox. Those were Cristina Vee. They knew she was so bad, they got someone else to do those too.
I still can't fathom having an accomplished voice actor on your payroll only too swap her with an actor who is only famous because she showed up in transformers

Ermac’s is easily my favourite by a MILE. Being a huge mythology fan, the locusts being on Ermac is a perfect reference to the 10 plagues, with one of them being a swarm of locusts.
I do posts on Aztec history and archeology, and Kitana's Hummingbird animality here shoulda been what Kotal got instead of his Jaguar stuff. For whatever reason the games/comics keep calling Kotal "Buluc", a Maya god, but Kotal is clearly based on Huitzliopotchli, a patron god of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital: Kotal's moveset and gear names use Nahuatl (Aztec language) words, Kotal's variations being tied to War, Sun, and Sacrifice all mesh with Huitz.'s associations, and Huitz. also has blue-green body paint and wields the fire serpent Xiuhcoatl as a weapon, and Kotal's concept art shows that was inspiration of his snake sickles. Huitzliopotchli was tied to Hummingbirds, his name even meaning something like "Left/South sided hummingbird" or "Hummingbird from the left/south": Hummingbirds were tied to warfare and combat, both perhaps because their quick movements and long beak evokes swift combat and strikes and males tend to get into fights with each other, but also because soldiers who died in combat were thought to be reborn in a floral realm of the sun where they suckled on nectar as Hummingbirds or butterflies.

I think you put more effort here into the idea than they did. Gotta remember Mortal Kombat characters are loosely based on cultural stereotypes and pop culture references rather than anything actually historically accurate. I'm pretty sure when designing Kotal they just went "Hey lets make an Aztec-ish character to replace our Genghis Kahn reference character, kinda like Ogre from Tekken 3 but with a backstory full of plot armor that he'll never have in the games."
@@shinzero0271 To be clear, I think Kotal is actually the least-badly handled Mesoamerican fighting game character: Tam-Tam and Huitzil aren't even really Mesoamerican, Ogre is as far as I can tell a complete nothing sterotype, and Necalli is even worse in his default form (tho I think his story mode form is a visually neat reference to some Mesoamerican mosaic artwork). Aside from his outfit and the jaguar elements instead of the hummingbird ones, Kotal is a pretty solid adaptation of Huitzliopotchli, and I'm willing to give MK slack since as you say, it's entire theme is over the top 80's action movies and those were filled with sterotypes.

You know, I think I like the animality better because they don’t have to end with “here’s my character standing next to my assist while we do a pose a respectful distance away from a pile of guts.” They get to get those incredible animals framed in a way that is unique to each one.
Some of these are the most gruesome fatalities than the ones in MK1 because of how realistic and/or creative they went.

That is so well said and I fully agree. The Fatality shift to be as gruesome and uncomfortable, rather than gory but fun has been very unfortunate.
Tis why these are so great - since you can tell that the animators had FUN making these, rather than accumulated trauma...
The artists and animators knocked these out of the park. Rain, Reptile, Li Mei...they're funny, gruesome, and like Max said, "snappy."
Homelander is pretty good, hes a monster so he got a monster verison of a Eagle, Americas fav animal. Peacemaker is basically that video with the eagle with guns and the some America Fuq' yEAH playing in the back

I think it’s more so to show the variety of people this interpretation will be able to appeal to, so we have the original first look at him and it’s very serious in nature then you have this look which is more so fun and bright. I definitely think he’s looking to make a version that’ll be more in line with the spirit of the Superman everyone’s more familiar with. Obviously people’s mileage may vary but I personally love it.
I like how the one's based on actual animals are pretty realistic kills. Like if you were living in ancient India tigers actually did that to people
