Even though I was quite familiar with basic modelling - I always watch these kind of tutorials to see if I can pick up any new tips or tricks, which I did with this video. I also need to point out the excellent pace and clear presentation of this video. I wish I had a teacher like you when I was starting out, this is a brilliant introduction to basic modelling in Blender. Subscribed.
I'm only 6:30 into this video and I have declared this video the best Blender tutorial on the internet. He doesn't just rapidly work getting you lost. He actually explains what he's doing, things you should be looking at in the UI, and why he is doing things the way he is. That last part is critical for becoming a good modeler. It's very important to understand WHY certain techniques are used, instead of just do it this way because. Kudos, amazing tutorial.
I am totally new to blender and it's quite fast actually. Had to 0.75 speed and paused anyways. But yeah, as for a beginner I found it pretty nice. I don't fully understand the INSET however. Why can't i just add new cut loop for example and just move it? Wouldn't it be the same? Also, sometimes I clicked by accident something that my graphics went wild and had to restart xD
No kidding. I have been looking forever for a simple tutorial that explains the controls and edit mode. It's taken me forever to find one that is not out of date!
Is it just me or at least someone is getting lost? I have been to a few more tutorials, but jeez i didn't got a thing from those. I mean, i have a big, dummy head with no brain..
@@PinkeySuavo Loop cuts work by going around objects. ALL the way around. Face inset simply grabs one face and makes a smaller copy. For subsurf work like he's doing, face inset lets him clarify the square side of the hammer without restricting the top and bottom from rounding a bit, which is the effect he's looking for.
I have sensory issues and so I'm sensitive to the sound of people smacking their lips and like 85% of any blender tutorial has lipsmacking in it and it irritates me! because this video doesn't include those noises and the fact that this tutorial is easy to understand and it works makes this the most helpful tutorial I have ever seen in my 17 years of life! this is one of my favorite video lessons on the entire internet. thank you tutor4u, you were extremely helpful.
I agree with Farooq. One of the best teachers on Blender that I have found so far. Not trying to be oversmart, or racing ahead. Just speaking at the right pace, very clearly, and explaining every step. Kudos!!!
The key is that not a single line is excessive and off-topic, every single word of his is useful and to the point. He's probably a professional tutorial maker who make a living out of these. He reminds me of an old Flash tutorial book that I bought when I was little, the videos on that book's accompanied VCD was in a similar style, and I learned to make a simple Flash game from scratch in no time. I've been a Flash/AS2 and later AS3 developer ever since. This kind of videos can have huge impact on a kid's life.
This is the best blender tutorial on youtube. This guy explaines everything fast but fast enough for you to understand. He's also one of those guys who doesn't treat you like a baby so, that's nice
As a beginner to both CGI and Blender, I have read through the manual and watched several tutorials, but this is the best that I have found thus-far. The clear and concise explanations and relatively slow pace are VERY beneficial -- especially in 2021 starting out with Blender v2.93.1. Subscribed!
Holy cow, this is one of the best tutorials I have ever seen. It virtually takes you through all the basics of modelling something, unwrapping something, texturing something, lighting that something, and rendering that something ... like ... wow ...
Short and concise, one of the better step by step descriptions I have seen. It is always good to see when makers actually seem to have rehearsed it before recording it.

Not only one of the best basic modelling videos on blender, step by step with full explanations, but also the start of understanding how to tackle tricky real world objects and recreate them. Thank you.
Hello, back 2 years later with something to say. This video kicked off my love for 3D Modeling. This video was very motivational, and I remember exactly how excited I was to of made something. Every day, for 2 years I practiced. If I failed, I tried again with something new. Need a break? Opened a new project. I just *kept. going.* I even wanted to quit, thinking I wouldn't amount to anything with this knowledge, but I just kept coming back here, to this. I lost my job during covid, so I started taking commissions. Eventually, it became my main source of income to take care of myself. You single-handedly initiated a life I never saw before, changing it for the better.. Thank you for randomly deciding to make a hammer one day, and teaching all the basics I needed then. I hope you have been good as well! Stay safe and take care.

I've been messing around with Blender for over a year, watching dozens of tutorials. How have I never come across Transform to Sphere before?!! Freaking amazing! I swear I learn more from one of yours than five other tutorials combined.
Best tutorial I've ever watched. This was the first one where I didn't make any errors all the way through, cause it was so well explained. Thank you for the awesome work!
I've just started with Blender and have done about 20 hours of tutorials but I hadn't drawn anything this good in Blender until seeing this tutorial. An excellent presentation.
WOW! I am really impressed by how much better the interface looks. It looks a lot cleaner than it used to, and it has a modern look which was needed. I love that the grid extends into infinity instead of the original ways for the new project. They devs have done an amazing job with Blender.
This 4 year old video is a MASSIVE help! I want to learn how to use blender and looking and the hammer I made as I watch the video made me feel so happy lol. I felt it was impossible for me to learn blender, but not anymore! Thank you so much
While using blender, I discovered that we can hold shift while moving or scaling anything, to do it more accurately. And while using loop cuts, you can press a number to specify how many loop cuts you want. Hope that helps in any possible way :)
I really appreciate that on one hand, you go to almost absurd levels of explicitly explaining literally every little step (which is a good thing in this case!), but then on the other hand you also hint at what other use-cases these functions can have, like at 6:50 and beyond. I'm coming from 2 years of learning Maya, and was looking for a tutorial on simple modelling using extrusion and bevel. This did the trick exactly as I needed it, so I'm glad I found this. Thanks!
I've had this one on my "to-do" list for a while. For what it's worth, this all works in Blender 4.0 with some minor changes in terminology. i loved the way you did the modelling. There were some things I learned with this and some things you made me remember. Thanks.
One tip for new people, when inseting new faces make sure the edges don't overlap with the old ones, they should be really close together but not over eachother. If they are over eachother if you use Mesh -> Clean Up -> Merge by distance in the future to remove doubles it will merge the vertices that are overlapped and ruin the inset.
this guy is so good cause he isn't fast paced and takes up his own time to help the noobs at blender such as me at getting better and does very excellent work
Thank you for the super straight-forward and informative tutorial. I really like how you take the time to pause and explain what some of the steps do, it helps a lot as a beginner who are just following along and not knowing what most of the tools do!
Excellent: love the way you've used a perfect example for reasonably complex geometry. You've also provided the example up front, so we can understand the purpose of everything you're doing, unlike so many, who seem to think they should keep everything a mystery until the very end.
Just recently downloaded this software, and have been looking for tutorials online and how to work it. This is by far the best video I found. Very well explained. Cannot wait for part two! Thank you very much :)
Excellent video. My favorite Blender 2.8 tutorial so far. Just two remarks. 1. There are a few extrude operations that are repeated twice, instead of doing it twice you can press shift+R to Repeat the action. 2. You can also quickly change viewpoints by using the tilde key (~, right above the Tab key on many keyboards). Press it and you'll see a menu with numbers. You can also hold it and flick your mouse in the direction of the buttons, i.e. left for left viewpoint, right for right viewpoint, up for top viewpoint etc. I don't have a numpad and this is much easier than going through the menu. In fact even if I had a numpad I'd use the tilde key, it's very fast.
This has to be the best blender tutorial on UA-cam, I love how he addresses possible problems one might come across, and take his time to explain what each thing he does means, unlike other UA-camrs who click random things without telling you what it was. You know, Blender was actually the very first modeling software I ever learned. It was back in around 2010, when I was in my last year of middle school, and I was actually pretty good at it. I stopped for a while and later learned Fusion360, since I was mostly using it for 3D printing, but now in trying to get back into Blender for work reasons, but with the new 2.8 interface, nothing looks the same and it looks like I'm going to have to learn it again from scratch. Your video is awesome! It doesn't drag things on, it gets straight to the point. Thanks a bunch!

I'm really glad I found this among the dozens of fast pace, hot shot videos. You explain the techniques and effects in a clear understandable way. You take a complex thing and make it comprehensive. Thanks for your efforts and I am looking forward to your videos on the more advanced functions.

This is by far the best Blender tutorial I have seen for a newbie like me.
When is part 2 coming?
I appreciate how you keep repeating the shortcuts instead of assuming we memorized them after hearing them once.
When the only thing you have is a hammer, every problem becomes a nail.

I just started to learn Blender. I went through lots of training videos but I found tutor4u the best one. Explicitly explained and step by step clear presentation. Very helpful. Thank you very much tutor4u.
