Mate this was one of the best blender tutorials I've come across, thank you SO much, this was insanely helpful and exactly what I was looking/hoping for
This was awesome! The only big issue I ran into was when I was trying to extrude the thumbs. The geometry kept morphing inside itself at odd angles and came out extremely flat, almost 2D. No matter what transformations I tried it just kept twisting itself in strange ways. I tried going into x-ray mode to see if I had accidentally created duplicate edges/vertices (something I learned from another tutorial), but had no luck fixing it. I imagine this is something I'll figure out with enough time in the program. All in all you made this process a lot less daunting than I thought it would be. I'm excited to practice creating characters and to broaden my artistic abilities!
it sounds like what I was experiencing when I was trying to scale a couple things...if I'd move the cursor too far, it would invert on itself and look really weird. I think it's because I was too zoomed out, so tiny mouse movements go farther than you intend...it helped me to zoom in closer to the item I was trying to affect.
This is by far the most useful introduction to Blender i've found so far. Nice pacing, great that you repeat and speak out loud what shortcuts you use. So many others just roll on out there at 200 kilometers an hour, expecting people who have never used Blender, to catch on to the fact that you used a 40 key combo to do some crazy stuff.
wow, I learnt a TON! Thank you. I think this would be a perfect tutorial for beginners as it touches a lot of the basics tools... With this and a little initiative to experiment, you can basically propel yourself forward into other potential project ideas. Lovely!

I have done plenty of hard surface modeling for props and 3D printing in Blender but never any character stuff. This is such a great tutorial, and it's awesome to jog the memory if you haven't been doing anything in blender for a few months. Good stuff.
This was such an incredible tutorial. Such an accessibly way to get into modeling, the low poly format had me encouraged to continue modeling additional details afterwards. You explained it all so well and concisely!
This is a great tutorial. I had to restart 3-4 times because I'd rotate around my model and discover I hadn't selected all the vertices and I has some very odd faces. Now I know enough, I can spend a lot of time doing finer touches to the body shape. Thank you.
after months of putting blender off because I thought it too difficult I opted to try this - Now I may have given up on the thumbs as my model had arms longer than "coughs" they should be - but wow what a great tutorial!! Thank you so much for this starter into blender ^^
Very clear and concise tutorial! I was able to follow along with every step, get a decent looking result and an understanding of what I actually did to get to that point, thank you!
Very good video! I'm a programmer trying to get into modelling and that's exactly the level I needed. Despite knowing the most used tools, mentioning the shortcuts is great. Thank you ❤
Thank you for an excellent video. I am almost 80 years old and bland new to this. When trying it out on my just downloaded Blender, I made a lot of mistakes. So, the questions is, when that happens, how do I return the cube to it's start up form and position so I can start over again without having to quit Blender and start over? I noticed that in your video, you can rotate the cube many times all over, or move the cube way out, then, suddenly, you are back to it's normal position and continue with your lecture. How did you do that? How can I do the same? Sorry to trouble you.
To undo an action try 'ctrl' & 'z' at the same time, this should work across most of windows. There are lists of hot keys out there, but my advice is to go through the donut tutorial (it's also on youtube), it's much longer, but he teaches you more of the hot keys & quick tips at the same time. Good luck
hello . thank you so much for this amazing tutorial , I was overwhelmed by this program, and couldn't open it for a long time, but now I finally decided to do and follow your tutorial and I managed to create something, thank you very much the only problem I faceed is that sometimes (only sometimes) , after scaling an edge or extruding, I see that additional vertices are being created which messes those parts, I might be adding them by mistake , but do you know a way to avoid that?
I ran into this problem kinda often myself and I think I have narrowed it down to what causes it for me and a solution to avoid it. So, for me, if I try to select a face the way that he does by just clicking it I am able to. However, when I try to extrude, move, rotate, or scale that face it creates additional vertices and edges that are unexpected. The cause for this from what I have noticed is because when I click to select the face it selects just that, the face only. What it does not select is the edges and vertices so that they extrude, move, rotate, or scale with the face. It caused me a bit of headache until I figured it out but for me the best solution is selecting with the selector tool in the form of clicking and dragging. Later when I get into more detailed work and such this may become a problem but I will find a solution then as well.
@@Yazoon_S I actually ran into further problems and found the true cause. When you go to extrude but change your mind it still creates an extrusion although it is invisible. What it actually does is it moves the extrusion point, which is the face, away from the edges. If you are in Wireframe mode with face select on you will notice black dots on the edges and centers of faces. This is not normal. The black dots should only appear in the center of the face so to fix this you can select everything (hotkey "A") and either hit hotkey ("M") for merge or go to the Mesh at the top of edit mode and hit Merge and Merge By Distance. Another alternative to fixing this is going to the Mesh menu and clicking Clean Up then Degenerate Dissolve. What these methods do is eliminate zero area faces and bring them to the proper edges. I ran into one edge that would not Merge By Distance so I had to Degenerate Dissolve it. Also if you notice 2 or more dots in the center of a face you have a duplicate face and this too can cause issues. You can click the dots and delete unwanted faces.
@@toddg5966 oh!, extruding does happen even if we cancel it? , interesting! I see, thanks A BUNCH for your help, I screenshot your solution and can't wait to try it soon ^^
@@Yazoon_S Its confusing that extruding happens even though it is cancelled but I am sure it has its uses. You are welcome though. Hopefully everything works out well for you.
Honestly, thank you so much for this tutorial, I had no idea where to even mildly begin with using blender, but this helps so much with getting the basics down!
23:10 I keep getting tripped up here. When I hit the face and shrink it, it ends up creating a middle face, not a face that takes up the middle and left portions. When I try to proceed with the extra faces there, it just leads to a malformed mess.
i dont know if you figured out or what but im going to post an answer for anyone to see, after selecting the face of the object click on the 'Move' button on the left side of the screen and that is how to drag the legs

Try holding shift to have more precision
I have the same problem.
This is my first creation other than a table!! Lol thank you!!
This is by far the most useful introduction to Blender i've found so far.
Nice pacing, great that you repeat and speak out loud what shortcuts you use.
So many others just roll on out there at 200 kilometers an hour, expecting people who have never used Blender, to catch on to the fact that you used a 40 key combo to do some crazy stuff.
we all have our preferences
This is literally the best tutorial for beginners on blender i have seen tysm
I made it 12 minutes in before I gave up. I love these speed build tutorials!
8:58 is pretty much where the tut starts btw

wow, I learnt a TON! Thank you. I think this would be a perfect tutorial for beginners as it touches a lot of the basics tools... With this and a little initiative to experiment, you can basically propel yourself forward into other potential project ideas. Lovely!
words can’t describe how thankful i am for this!! you’re such a life saver!!
This was my first time ever 3d modeling and I'm very impressed with the results, amazing tutorial
And the legend strikes again!
Thanks for this very well explained tutorial, it was definitely worth watching it! Thumbs up!
at 22 minutes after spending 2 hours and my character isnt as good but ive learned alot going to re watch and re create till my characters are decent looking and not so fat lol! thank you bro very good tutorial 10/10
This actually helped me A LOT surprisingly, considering the many tutorials I've skimmed through, this one takes the cake in my book
Thank you so much!!! this video really helped me make a character model for the first time and now i feel ready to start making character models
Woah! My first model and it's so incredible, with this tutorial you can do almost everything you want
This is a fantastic tutorial thank you so much for making this, this has taught me so much!

That feeling when a low poly model has better dance moves than you.
Thank you ❤
I am a total beginner with Blender, and i immediatly subbed before event look at your video. Thanks for this, i am sure its going to be helpful!
For some reason, this is easier than the donut
I have no idea what i have done...
Far more useful than making a donut.
HAHA I KNOW YGAT VIDEO
Blender guru
I used that video with 3.X and still perfectly works! Thank you so much for this help! 🙂
i didnt watch the whole tutorial but i learned the half of the blender with just a simple tutorial thank you for that :)
I hope no one did the same stupid thing as me and end up setting the subdivisional surface to level 100. My laptop was not able to restore the model.
Good luck
hello . thank you so much for this amazing tutorial , I was overwhelmed by this program, and couldn't open it for a long time, but now I finally decided to do and follow your tutorial and I managed to create something, thank you very much
the only problem I faceed is that sometimes (only sometimes) , after scaling an edge or extruding, I see that additional vertices are being created which messes those parts, I might be adding them by mistake , but do you know a way to avoid that?
@@toddg5966 thanks a lot for the info ^^
This guy is the best teacher I have seen on UA-cam
23:10 I keep getting tripped up here. When I hit the face and shrink it, it ends up creating a middle face, not a face that takes up the middle and left portions. When I try to proceed with the extra faces there, it just leads to a malformed mess.
16:11 How do you drag the legs like that? i couldnt understand that part
Im having the same issue
Same thing here
This is very late but for future viewers, he pressed G
i dont know if you figured out or what but im going to post an answer for anyone to see, after selecting the face of the object click on the 'Move' button on the left side of the screen and that is how to drag the legs
I'm having the same issue, the move button doesn't do it the way he's done it 🤔
*sees there isn’t enough r34 of a character*

This really helped me understand the tools in blender way better. First recommendation video for getting started
This is amazing! Thank you so much. I had no clue how to even start. I went through the whole video and worked alongside on my own human. Took me 2 hours but time so well spent!
