Everyone telling you how to get rid of the mold you have now, which most have told you how to do, but the important thing is to stop it in the first place.
I would suggest you find where the leak is and if you can, block it, if not, put something under it to catch the leak.
If it is from the drain, and you don't have a way to stop it, put a bowl or something below to stop the drips, or when using the sink, wrap a piece of cloth around the area leaking, and then when finished, dry the cloth.
It may be harder if it is from the water coming in, but you could still use a cloth to absorb, and then swap out and dry.
It is important to get rid of mold, but if you don't get rid of the source it will keep coming back.

A lot of suggestions to use bleach to kill the mould ( the correct way of spelling )
Asa rule, bleach doesnt kill mould, it inhibits the growth & slows it down unless you use industrial double strength chlorine bleach.- breathing in chlorine bleach is just as bad if not worse than mould.
A much simpler & i suggest cheaper solution is to use isopropyl alcohol or 70-75% alcohol which if i remember correctly is in a green bottle labelled Greens isocol or sanitiser alcohol in the Philippines and is really quite cheap.
Douse or soak the area and allow it to penetrate & evaporate..

Alcohol does not usually kill mold it dries it and mostly does not kill it. There are still airborne deadly spores. If you guys were in the Philippines and your advice made her sick you could be prosecuted. Hi!
I just wanted to add to and clarify my comments below. The wipe should be soaked in either isopropyl alcohol, or another Black Mold killer. This way when you wipe, the spores hit the wet rag, and stick to it, a dry rag is no good, as it will allow the spores to become airborne.
So if the rag is folded into quarters, you make a single pass with the wipe, fold the rag over to a clean side, and repeat. 1 wipe for each clean quarter of the rag. Also, wear gloves, a mask, and then dispose of the rags into a sealed plastic bag. Use of fans as stated below is also recommended.
    Hopefully, this helps some folks.

Unfortunately bleach does very little for mold on organic surfaces like wood. Citrus products...if you can get them. You can also make your own by smashing lemons/oranges... anything highly acidic into a bit of water. Poor directly on the spot. It's unlikely that little spot is creating problems for you. But you can clean it with a rag and dish/laundry soap. Get the rag wet once, then use it to clean. If it gets dirty. Use a new cleaning rag. Then put them outside in the sun to dry for a couple of days. Then wash them as you normally would.

Bleach or Hydrogen Peroxide both work on black mold. I have found that using the Hydrogen Peroxide works faster, and doesn't have the strong, lingering odor that you'd get with bleach. In any case, black mold is very damaging to your respiratory system. Good luck.

I'd be working on a rain catchment system to provide a stable and abundant water supply. It's not that difficult to catch and filter rainwater, rather that paying for water that is shut off at night. Even if you're only there for a month, it would benefit future visitors, and your landlord might be willing to adjust your rent to compensate. The island looks like a nice place to visit. I've heard it's a spooky place. :)

Hi Ruby, have just seen your channel for the 1st time. Re the mold, i see lots of advice & some wrong. Maybe the correct advice is there, but not sifting through 500 comments lol
The most important thing is that there are 100's of molds, and some strains can actually kill or blind you. Plus it can effect you even after moving out. So the correct thing is to replace infected parts, and replace that part of the floor, but I doubt that the owner will go for it...but talk to her. If not fixed seriously get another place, even if more expensive.
In the interim use vinegar on the mold, plus stop the source of the problem. It could be a seal, but something like toilet pan sealer might work - it's cheap and a kind of a wax that is flexible... Good luck, J

You can kill that mold with bleach, pour it or spray it then scrub with a brush to clean then use towels to clean after then bag everything up and throw it away try to find where the drip under the sink is coming from and keep a pan there by the way its a good idea to wear a mask while you do that😊

Hi Ruby Charlie, from America. I am coming to Cebu in September. But Siquijor Philippines is absolutely on my list of places to visit. I started in Mexico two years ago. I was considering staying there, but Asia was calling and so I gave up my apartment and went to Vietnam in November and December. I am back to Boston now since the holidays here but back out traveling next week Mexico and then back to Vietnam on a 90 day visa April May and June. thank you for this informative video. You are very articulate and I appreciate everything you do. I’ve been invited to Cebu Phillipines I’m not sure how long I will stay in the Philippines. It is a great big world with beautiful people everywhere. I think I will like the Philippines. I will look forward to more of your videos, Thank you Ruby.. have a nice day. 👋

It is so smart of you to use this rental as a way of exploring what works for you, so that when you later 'rent up' you'll be clearer on what's suitable and what's not. On the other hand, if you can get the problems with this place dealt with, perhaps your stay will prove to be an extended one.
Mold. Yes, mold can be dangerous. Please for now at least sprinkle it heavily with something that absorbs moisture (e.g. baking soda), and then cover it so that the spores cannot become airborne. And though the landlady will likely be glad to have that section of wood cut out and replaced, what also needs to be addressed is the source of the problem. I assume it's dripping from the sink that kept the floor damp enough to develop mold. At minimum, a large plastic tray would serve as a barrier if that dripping doesn't get solved.
Eggs. Must say, those look totally store bought. I don't know what the Philippine market generally provides, but there are a couple things I know about eggs that matter. First, the yolks should be almost orange. If they're yellow instead, that's a low grade, comparatively lacking in nutrition. The second is, large eggs are less flavorful than medium or small ones.
Bathroom. Yes, when first built the water probably did what it's supposed to do. Almost certainly the center of that room has sunk. Even sinking an inch can make all the difference. Someone can climb under that bit of the house and use a combination of wooden blocks and a screw jack to lift the floor back up a tad. Then when it's level again, a combination of wooden blocks can be inserted to keep it that way permanently.
Mezzanine. No that means 'middle', which would imply a third floor. That's simply a loft. It's a charming bit of the place though if you can put it to some rewarding use.
I agree that the outdoors space with its views are the prime selling point. (just look at how blue the ocean is!) All else can be easily upgraded or managed.
Too I would add the following. It says a great deal about your character and humility that your love for nature is greater than your attachment to life's common comforts. Second, when you attempt as you do to tell wishful expats that Filipinas really are 'down to earth', that claim becomes all the more persuasive when we can watch 'our city girl' make this kind of a shift with such ease and genuine contentment.
Using Facebook groups to locate a rental, and making sure to get a management receipt are great tips. As you say, messages can be deleted and are considered the property of the site holder. Visiting a location if possible, before renting, also sounds like good advice. The rental itself may be fine, but that doesn't mean the area is.
Yes, the 'long term' story clearly was a misunderstanding, and is almost funny. Clearly you thought a night or two, like a bnb, would rank as short term. It's cool that your landlady got that.
I saw a dog. Can you tell us about that?

    • @Rubeauti
      @Rubeauti  6 місяців тому

Omg yes. That is it! :D
Thank you for the tip. I really appreciate it. The thing is there is no leak when I am using. I think the tenants before are not careful. they use water too much and it splatters everywhen and it goes down. But yes I will spray vinegar everyday until the woods rots in vinegar haha at least the mold will disappear forever :D

  • @kaikrist
    @kaikrist 6 місяців тому

Hi, you could have said; ''I want to rent for at least 1 month'', then there would have been no misunderstanding. Another thing, if you have a long-term dry cough, with no other symptoms, it could either be asthma (if you only have it in the house) or a mycoplasma (the smallest known bacteria) pneumonia. The last one is treated with 100 mg of Doxycycline tablets for nine days.

White vinegar is generally effective against most types of mould. If you can find cleaning vinegar (7.5 - 10 % acetic acid ) even better. Since lemon juice also contains 5% acetic acid it should also be effective.

Hello Rubeauti Vinegar is a super powerfulI it kills around 82% of mold species because it has acetic acid. On the other hand, baking soda is also good , one thing I would try to do is make sure there is some air flow in that area so the wood can dry out . Beautiful place you have to live its one Island I have always wanted to go to hahahaha but so many people from the Philippines will not go there because of its history :) Good luck take care .

HEY.. that mold isn’t healthy at all. Buy some rubber gloves, bleach and disinfectant spray (Lysol) also get a small door mat. Get a separate bucket fill up halfway add a cup of bleach get a scrub brush and lightly scrub area. Take door and pray disinfectant on bottom mat and lay over spot under sink. That should help while you’re there
