  • Are you looking for an easy way to get from downtown Los Angeles to the beach, all in one day? Look no further than the L.A. Metro! Especially with 3 new stops along the Regional Connector that just opened up on June 16, it's never been easier.
    In this video, you'll get a step-by-step guide to riding the train from downtown LA to the beach, plus we tour each of the 3 new stops: 1) Little Tokyo/Arts District, 2) Historic Broadway, 3) Grand Avenue Arts/Bunker Hill. I also go over safety and tips for women riding the train.
    With fare caps coming in July 2023, the LA Metro is now the most cost-effective and convenient way to get around town. Visit the L.A. Metro website for more information on schedules and routes.

    Thanks for your videos. I'm visiting LA in a few weeks from Toronto and they've given me plenty of ideas for things to do. For what it's worth, the pandemic seems to have affected transit system safety everywhere. Even up here there's been a spike in random violent attacks on our transit system.
    Do you have any nightlife recommendations for the 30+ demographic? Maybe some fun restaurants, bars, or venues that have smaller indie shows?

      Thanks for your comment! Glad to hear my videos are helpful for your upcoming trip! Yes, for nightlife and live shows (with indie music) I recommend The Lodge Room & Checker Hall in Highland Park, The Echo/The Echoplex, The Peppermint Club, The Mint, the El Rey Theater in Miracle Mile. More bars: Far Bar in Koreatown, Good Times at Davey Wayne’s (often has a line), La Cita (for flamenco), Bar Henry, Library Bar (dtla), and Resident in the Arts District. Super fun! Hope you have a great time!

    I love your honest remarks with regards to safety. Unfortunately the Metro needs to ensure our safety. I enjoyed my recent trip from Long Beach to Old Town Pasadena. Jumping on and off was a blast!

    I took the Expo Line from the historic Broadway station 5o LA Brea and Exposition Thursday after spending the morning walking around in DTWNLA after reporting for Jury duty. I felt safe the whole time. When I got down to the platform, there were three LAPD officers and a couple Metro Ambassadors ( Hint LAPD headquarters are a block away from the station); I have yet to take the Expo( E) line to Santa Monica, but that's on my list. I have taken the new Crenshaw-LAX (K line) once a couple months ago from Inglewood to the Expo line and enjoyed the ride.

    You didn't showcase the third new station, the Grand Ave -Bunker Hill station. That station is unique in that there are no escalators. It's only accessible via 6 elevators, and has an even more spectacular 60 foot tall mosaic. It also is connected via a bridge to the Broad museum

    I have a student tap card, I don’t have to pay upfront when I get on the bus can I use this with the train as well?

      @@NotAnInternetTroll ok wasn’t sure, I’ve never used the card to take a train/tram before with it, only bus. This is good.

      Your student card works the same as my senior card. It charges you the individual fares, $.75 peak/$.35 non-peak until you reach the daily limit and then it just stops charging you. Lots of times you don’t even get charge that because it treats additional entries as a free transfer. Then as you approach the weekly rate it stops charging you after you paid that weekly amount.

    This was a very informative yet entertaining video. I used to take the Gold Line from South Pas to Highland Park to go skating. But now that they have connected the long beach route to Azusa I would rather drive.

      @@mrxman581 I think it has more to do with shady characters from Compton that still sit on the train and riding back and forth then on the Blue A Line. Although East LA has their fair share of colorful characters. It's not bad enough that wouldn't stop riding it but I do know I'd avoid the Red and Purple/B and D lines like the plague, I took it annually when I made a series of trips to LA, it's just gotten 10x worse every single time. I still feel generally comfortable on the Light Rail and Buses.

      @@islesofmets I agree, but LA Metro seems to finally be doing more significant work to improve safety and security on the system especially on the subway lines. They announced several new programs in late May including adding more transit officers and creating these transit ambassadors. I saw them when I checked out the Regional Connector last month. Hopefully, it will continue to improve.

    • @islesofmets
      @islesofmets Рік тому

      @mrxman581 I hope so too, and I hope they manage to find solutions for the homeless, mentally ill, and addicts before 2025 so they can be well enough to experience, and the system can be good for all of the FIFA 2026, Olympics 2028, and beyond. I am cautiously optimistic for now. And I still will take all the light rail lines at the moment as the activities aren't so different compared to SEPTA in neighboring Philadelphia which I use the 2nd Most after NYC area's (MTA/NJTransit).

      @@islesofmetsI tend to frame transit projects with the Olympics in mind, but you're right the World Cup is in 2026. Yeah, they definitely need to have everything fully implemented by 2025 and working well by 2026. People need to feel that the LA Metro system is safe and secure especially for potential passengers who might not be as familiar with the system like visitors and tourists during the World Cup. The last thing LA needs are for attendees go back to their home countries and relate horrible experiences while being in LA. Thanks.

    I feel like safety depends a lot on which line you're on. Generally, the B and D lines are much sketchier than the other lines. Buses are also usually quite safe.

    Yeah be careful on that DTLA to Santa Monica ride. I was on it a couple months ago. This guy was doing a line of coke off his TAP card and sat across a pretty girl, just staring at her throughout most of the ride. She was on her earphones and looking out the window, but I kept an eye on her. It was so uncomfortable. Sucks though because I did like using the metro rail. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the Gold Line to Pasadena is a bit "safer" at least?

      It's true that unfortunately drug use does happen on the train. You have to watch out. Yes -- it seems that most people agree that the Gold Line (now the A line) is a bit better than the others. The Purple and Red lines tend to be the sketchiest.

    • @rogedog92
      @rogedog92 Рік тому

      the sketchiest of them all is the Blue Line (A) from dtla to Long Beach Station.

    • @islesofmets
      @islesofmets Рік тому

      @@rogedog92 The Red and Purple (or B and D) line is really giving the Blue A and Green C Line(s) a run for sketch, I do know the issues on those and the Expo E Line, but it doesn't deter me from riding, the Red and Purple has too many drug users I literally felt off when riding it, I wonder if I got effects of the drugs via air particles but I didn't feel comfortable on the Red and Purple. It is really bad in 2023, I wish it was better 5 years ago even, like in 2018...
