Native Angeleno here, and I say this list is legit. Well done video too! Those crying about their restaurant or food spot not making the cut, there isn't enough time in a UA-cam video to cover it all. Also, your palate probably isn't refined enough, so you wouldn't know the difference between good and bad. Additionally, just because a place has existed for 50+ years doesn't make it good. Taco Bell has been around since 1954 ;)
This is the reason I miss living near L.A. you have every good food dish from every culture and being next to the Ocean helps make foreign seafood dishes taste very delicious and more fresh.
Just saw this video, a few years after the fact. I live in L.A., and you definitely hit some of the hot spots. I do realize that there's so much here, it's impossible to cover every cuisine. So can we just mention the huge number of Chinese restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley? From many difference provinces in China? Some of the best dim sum in the universe. Then there's a big Indian population in L.A., with restaurants in "Little India." You've got Thai Town and Little Ethiopia (injera, anyone?). Little Tokyo and Gardena for amazing, traditional Japanese food. The list goes on and on. Argentinian, Venezuelan, and Salvadoran food. How about food from Nigeria? We've got every ethnicity imaginable, and the restaurants to go along with it. Thank you, Jonathan Gold, for showing us how Los Angeles is one of the best places to eat out in the U.S.
I live near LA and this was a solid run down! Finally a blog tour that doesn't include Pinks or In-N-Out. Both awesome but there's much more than that. Our Mexican food is the best here in SoCal. I'm coming for that mole!

A lot of these places are on bus or train lines. The other day, I thought I would save time on a Lyft instead of Metro from Mid-City to Union Station, but it took only 10 minutes less than going by bus and subway.
Matt!!! Awesome channel. I'm a first time viewer and loved your content. Los Angeles is my birth place and I now live in The suburbs of Philadelphia. But I must back up about three years because I used to live in Atlanta and there's lots of food to explore there as well. But let's move forward to Los Angeles. When I used to live in LA there was a place in Alhambra called "The Hat". I remember their massive pastrami sandwiches. Then there was El Tepayac serving these awesome burritos. One was massive called the Manuel Special. And lastly Tommy's ! It was my top bucket list stops. I hadn't had that in 10 years. Chili burgers by Tommy's. Fantastic. And the next one on my bucket list was In-n-Out
The Hat is still around in fact there are 5 or 6 of that I know of. Pastrami roast beef sandwiches there damn good and when you order frys it's enough for about 3 or 4 people especially when you order them as chili fries
L.A and the greater L.A area has the largest Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Filipino, Korean, Armenian, Israeli, Persian and Vietnamese communities outside their respective countries...and we get to eat all their food , made as authentic as possible...
I feel L.A. is undervalued when it comes to food. Everyone touts New York, but L.A. reigns supreme. I am shocked you didn't give a nudge to The Pantry, Philippes, or Nicks Cafe. Maybe those are all too known (like Tommy's, In-N-Out, Versailles, and Roscoe's) but you did cover places I wasn't aware of.
I miss L.A! The Mexican restaurants are great an the restaurants in China town! One of my biggest complaints living in Utah, the Chile verde is very different here compared to restaurants in California.

Blacks need not apply seems our cuisine doesn’t matter
A lot of these places are on bus or train lines. The other day, I thought I would save time on a Lyft instead of Metro from Mid-City to Union Station, but it took only 10 minutes less than going by bus and subway.
Your travel videos are the best!
Luiz Botton Thank you!!!
Great video! It's clear a lot of passion went into it!
I go to many taco places even through Boyle Heights and East LA. I was thrilled to see you single out Guerilla Tacos. I agree!
discovering LA Glad you agree! Love that place:)
Cheers,
M
Fantastic. And the next one on my bucket list was In-n-Out
1BIG tuna Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment and suggestions! Cheers!
1BIG tuna El Tepayac is in my neighborhood. Tommys, The Hat hmm.
The Hat is still around in fact there are 5 or 6 of that I know of. Pastrami roast beef sandwiches there damn good and when you order frys it's enough for about 3 or 4 people especially when you order them as chili fries
When I used to frequent El Tepeyac, if you can finish the El Manuel, it's free. I'd usually get the Hollenbeck burrito and eat it over two days.
You had me at Langer's, and now all I want to do is get on Interstate Five and drive the two hours to get there.
Ian Cunningham The best right??
Langer’s is better than Katz’s.
Ian Cunningham I live in Sacramento and I sometimes consider driving down just to eat in LA restaurants and Langers No 19 is on my list!
BRENT'S Deli in Northridge... Black Pastrami Reuben with slaw instead of kraut. Thick cut fries... Unbelievably great!
Louis burgers in Compton has the best chili cheese fries w/ pastrami. A hole in a wall but the best taste. And the orange bang there is delicious
hmm I will try
They shut it down. The one on alameda and Compton right?
Theres another louis on rosecrans and bullis
@@jaelove7579 , Bullis Rd & Rosecrans is the best one. Been going there since the 70's🍔🍟🍨
Jae Love totally forgot about it
L.A and the greater L.A area has the largest Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Filipino, Korean, Armenian, Israeli, Persian and Vietnamese communities outside their respective countries...and we get to eat all their food , made as authentic as possible...
conni70 Amen!!
So do I need a hipster beanie to do this LA food tour?
I moved to Texas in 2/19. I'm moving back to SoCal for the food again! 😋😋😋😋
My friend did that to lmao
Lmao you do know Texas got foods also depends on where you live at
Spent 5 years in Houston, but came back to LA. Got hooked on Texas Roadhouse there. But it’s gradually working towards LA.
The hat pastrami , king taco , Philippe’s , boos cheese steaks , mulberry pizza , the pantry , dupars ,
folieros pizza. highland park .
vinny Nicholas haha my mom is obsessed with dupars
David Briones.today is a better tacos, all over LA , my favorite la cienega and Lennox, Friday night true, Sunday.
vinny Nicholas you don’t know nothing of street tacos
I feel L.A. is undervalued when it comes to food.
Jason Weller I agree about LA. And some good added suggestions!
Cheers,
M
Jason Weller - Yes! Versailles! Especially the Culver City location. Awesome Cuban food.
Used to live near Nicks for breakfast.
I miss L.A! The Mexican restaurants are great an the restaurants in China town! One of my biggest complaints living in Utah, the Chile verde is very different here compared to restaurants in California.
I'm visiting soon and i don't see Howlin Ray's, one of the reasons I'm going to LA, they've been open since 2015 and this video was made in 2018
Howlin Rays kicks so much ass
Such a Excellent Video. Thank God I live in L.A. 😀 Thank You So Much
You got to try Salsa & Beer In No. Hollywood. Sit at the Bar. Get there at 11am. It’s Incredible & Very affordable
Cheers 🍻
Mick Cotton Bar -B - Q Glad you like the video! And I’ll definitely check it out! Thanks!
All the best,
M
The Parks Finest in echo park is one of the best Filipino style bbq in La! A total must try.
I've never had Filipino bbq until I went there, and I agree, very good.
Excellent spot!
For the cheap section you should have gone to 26th Ave Taco Stand. Their dollar tacos, and they are amazing.
My friends introduced me to this stand. They have the absolute best tacos I've ever had. I ate 9 of them! I couldn't stop.
I really appreciate this as an LA resident of 21 years
I beg of you Los Angeles!!!!! PLEASE do not turn into San Francisco with a franchise on every street corner!!!
Cheap: 1:15
Mid range : 8:30
Expensive: 12:05
Guerilla tacos have a store front now. In Boyle heights
Krystal Dominguez Arts District !
So great 🤤yummy👍🏿 makes me miss home so much!!! And, dude is so funny😂✨
And, he forgot El Cholo Family Mexican Restaurant. The food is magical!!!

Karen Cortez Of course! They’re so good:)
Cheers,
M
How did you miss all the amazing Chinese food in San Gabriel valley? LA is known to have some of the BEST authentic Chinese food in the country.
Totally agree. SGV has world class, authentic Chinese and Taiwanese food. It was here I first learned about REAL Chinese food (and how much better it is compared to Americanized Chinese food).
Probably on a tight timeline and didn’t want to drive through the traffic lmao
Bro ive lived LA all my life and never ate majority of these spots lmaoo
domo535 haha! same here, bro - and I'm still eating at Wendy's
poor you thers so much more and better
Bro? Sounds like a dumb millennial that has never experienced the best that L.A. has to offer.
Lol same. Not kidding the 9nly places on here i ate were portos and bestie.
Pelon lmao
Moved from SoCal to Ohio. Really regretting that decision after watching this video. Not that I wasnt already lol.

MrMagillacutty Thanks!

thepolarbearfromlost Thanks so much for the kind words! New vids coming soon!
Matt! Thank you for ur advice, I traveled to nyc on december and I stoped by absolute bagels, xi'an famous foods, and difara's ... it was really very good!! Good job and keep on posting more videos! #love
Luz Selene Valenzuela Aguilera Thanks so much! Glad the NYC vid was helpful! But now all I want is Di Fara:)
In and out burgers🍔🍟
reason why .CA food is so delish is it's grown so close to LA and the ocean is right there.
Armando Pina Amen:)
