Tracing, Drawing and Node Editing with LightBurn for Lasers

  • I use LightBurn Software for Lasers to trace an image, actually a hand drawn image. The Image was not usable as it was for use on the laser so I used the pencil or line tool to trace , and the used node editing to refine the drawing. This would allow you to cut this drawing out as a puzzle on your Laser machine.

To change from straight to curved lines, its easier to (in edit nodes mode) grab the lines and drag them to the shape, they'll turn into curves and the point you grabbed will move with your mouse. That way you can turn only one side smooth as well.

To get smooth lines while drawing, instead of just clicking, click and hold while dragging your mouse a little bit and it will give you a smooth node instead of a straight one. Hope this helps 😊

An easier way to smooth your lines is , once you make your straight line shape, select it, use the offset tool to offset out a fairly large amount, deleting the original shape, and then shrink it back to the correct size.

I think the traced line should be traced along the middle of the path to have a more precise line of the drawing, I don't understand why you draw it along one of the sides of the shapes... if you do it like that, then you could just delete the outer line, or the inner line, and complete the pieces missing in the line you are left with... you wouldn't need so much work. But I thank you for this tutorial because I didn't know how you could draw with vector lines in Lightburn, I thought you always had to import them from any other program.

If those are continuous lines isn't there a feature where you can highlight the negative space and choose fill?

Thats the problem with a drawing like this, since I am not using shapes. If I set to fill and run a preview, this file has 58 open shapes!!!
