Nice video. Might I suggest the name Kaloni from the Morris West book "The Navigator".

Awesome video, as always. My dad and I are planning on sailing from Yamba to Grafton on an oday daysailer. Bit of a salty pub crawl. Might have to bring swags depending on the current haha

There’s a trip like that in the planning for March. The guy in the Periwinkle (Bruce) said he was going to post on FB about it.

Hi Josh, you are making me very jealous.
It’s seen to take for every to get the dolphin ready but should have all the out standing hardware very soon. Then is will be ready for a sail. I will make a video of what I have done and put it up on my channel.

Would have been nice to catch up with you fellers, as the Clarence is my third favourite cruising area, but I find this summer heat too unbearable for me. I usually cruise between March and October and keep myself very busy catching up with duties, so I can be off again for an extended cruise. Last one was for a month between the top of Curtis Island and the top of the sandy Straits. Had some great sailing in strong winds. Thanks for the video Josh, keeps me interested while getting ready for the next trip.

Yeah summer is hard work! Sounds like you have a good calendar set out. Enjoy your trip planning.

Great vid Josh 👍🏻👍🏻 Explorer sail number 78….I owned one back in 2003 / 05
I can’t recall the sail number exactly but I have a gut feel it could have been 78. 🤔
Any idea how long they have owned it ? I sold mine in country Victoria about mid 05. It went to a lady at the Waranga Basin near Rushworth.
    Couldn’t be could it 🤷‍♂️
    Regards
    Ian

Hi Ian. That sail is a second hand one procured for this boat - not original. Andrew is fixing her up bit by bit.

So I've always wondered if there is any significant difference in performance between the gaff, sloop and standing lug rigs on the Navigator. I know you had a sloop and gaff out (maybe a standing lug?) Any thoughts? It's mostly a curiousity question as I like the way my standig lug performs and don't intend on making changes. I've had thoughts about setting up the impeder. The bungee wrap has served me, but as you noted, when you do need to grab the tiller and make a tack, or correction, the bungee only stretches so far and you feel like you're forcing something. Maybe that's another winter project. As always..thanks for sharing...you'll get me through out winter!!

Hi Tim, I didn’t really get a sense of performance difference between sloop and yawl as I was either teaching Jules in his boat or remaining close by. I did think the yawl was quite quick in the hands of a very experienced sailor and in the moments when we were travelling in same direction he wasn’t gaining on me at a noticeable rate. My sloop has a larger headsail than the new Nav so I imagine that was intrinsically quicker. The impeder is a great mod and I am glad I made the change. Thanks for watching, stay warm.. Josh
