I remember the telethons well only 3 were televised this was the first one the second one was in 1990 and the third (this happened to be last one) in1992 no telethons were broadcast after this
The telethons ended after 1992 due to backlash from disabled people, who felt they were being patronised and demeaned by the telethon. They really were made to feel like second rate citizens that should be pitied.
I was 7 and that theme tune has never left me.
Me neither. I was a teenager and I have always remembered it.
Hahaha I was 6 and same thing! We lived during the golden age of TV!
Glad to see I’m not the only one who still has this music stuck in their head from childhood!
That intro music is still stuck in my head to this day!
Another 80s kid whose had this theme tune stuck in his head for years.
I had mumps when this was on🤢. That intro sends chills down my spine!!!
The late Alyn Ainsworth who was the musical director for the occasion wrote the theme tune, and it's never left my mind since on this day in 1988.
Thanks for the info. A nice tune Cheers.
How strange, Jubilee Music, (from 1976) was on BBC 4 last night, and it featured Alyn Ainsworth and his Orchestra. Spooky.
