Hi Joanne, yes it was broadcast live. It was preceded by a film of winter scenes and festive music, (from which the still is taken) followed by the clock. He also did the birthdays following the welcome. I have also posted his closedown, which he did in a similar fashion. This time he had the red nose, bow tie, dinner jacket and a party blower which he used. Merry Christmas. Cheers.
Joanne Gray You obviously didn't live in the Tyne Tees region... the company invented the concept of not giving two hoots for professionalism in the early 1980s (especially around Christmas!!) ... witness 'The Tube' for example. It's why we miss them so much :-)
It was broadcast live, Tyne Tees always did the announcement at the start of the day live whereas some stations such as Border and YTV used prerecorded ones. Colin was as mad as a box of frogs and got way with all sorts that others wouldn't have. Tyne Tees always allowed announcers to do pretty much what they wanted to do, unlike some stations. When he was at Anglia, who didn't allow this free rein, he was always getting a bollocking for his daft remarks. There aren't any such characters like this anymore unfortunately.
Colin at 0:14 LOL
Was that clip of Colin Weston from the Tyne Tees VT Christmas tape? Can't imagine that would have been broadcast live?

Jason, I actually grew up in the Tyne Tees area. This clip must have been aired when the family telly was tuned into BBC or we had the radio on.

Hi, I thought it was Jack Hardy. Who used to work behind the bar in the Rovers in Corrie. Thanks.
I think you're right, I stand corrected.
Glad her never got down to ATV / Central. I'm surprised how Granada thought themselves such a prestige company that they ever employed him.
