I think this was one of the best generic identities ITV have had and the idea of incorporating all the local television providers onto the generic ITV logo is something to applaud. See a lot of stations refused to use it, wonder if they regret that decision as now the ITV, or itv, logo has no mention of a local provider now
Here’s what who did what: ANGLIA: DID NOT adopt the generic look. The Norwich based company adopted a new flag based logo in 1988, replacing the Anglia Knight, which was in use since day one, in 1959, only being updated in 1970, when Anglia first aired in Color. So they felt NO Need to adopt the Generic Logo. BORDER: Adopted the Generic Logo. This was one of the few adoptions that actually worked, as it was the first time Border had Animation in their ident. The Chopsticks logo also mainly fit the “V” in the ITV Logo. Central: adopted but would customize the ident before dropping the generic look altogether, adding their own jingle, then adopting the ITV logo into their idents, then dropping the generic look staying with “The Cake”. CHANNEL: DID NOT adopt the generic look. Channel had updated to a 3D animated variant of their CTV logo that same year, replacing the 2D animated CTV seen since the mid 1980s. GRAMPIAN: Adopted the generic look, in fact their logo fit so well, they kept it up to 1998. GRANADA: DID NOT fully adopt the Generic look, but they did have a custom version integrating their 1989 animation with the Generic ITV logo, which was used briefly. HTV (Harlech): Adopted the generic look, kept up until 1993. A variant with the jingle with the HTV logo staying on screen did exist. London weekend: adopted the generic look, but dropped it in 1992 for their own package. SCOTTISH: similar case to Granada, but no custom version. Scottish would drop the generic look almost immediately. THAMES: used the generic look up to 1991, when they lost the franchise round to Carlton. Their generic look got updated in 1990 TVS (Television South): DID NOT adopt the generic look. They introduced a new animated ident around 1987, and elected to stay with that logo. TSW (Television Southwest): DID NOT adopt the generic look, they debuted a 3D animated version of their logo in 1988. TYNE TEES: Adopted the Genetic look and used it up to 1991, the. Reintroduced their own package, keeping the 1970 (updated in 1979 and then again in 1988) logo with the Jingle up to 1993/94. ULSTER (UTV): DID NOT Adopt the Generic look. They adopted a 3D version of their logo in 1988. YORKSHIRE: did adopt the Generic look, but updated the design in 1991 to show the full Chevron.

Interesting how some regions had the music abruptly stop when the V appeared, and others had the flutes carrying on for a while. I was most familiar with the Yorkshire region growing up, but when I stayed in a hotel in London and heard that familiar melody stop, it was quite jarring!
Must admit I wasn't lover of these generic titles as each region sounded better by its own theme eg for me in London hearing the Thames and LWT jingles as for the other viewers whatever region you lived. Otherwise it brings back great memories

I love all the old TV idents. These have a special place in my heart as well as they remind me of watching television at the weekend.
Yeah, especially the other networks which used 1989 ITV generic ident.

I wasn't alive during this time but this music just makes me feel great but also relaxed at the same time like I've got no problems whatsoever.

Channel Television was made from The V's Triangle Shield to Turn into a CTV forum of ITV
All of them are here except for Yorkshire's second version which goes into the full Y.
When tv stations spent time and money on their idents
Who was actually commissioning all these, given that ITV plc didn't exist?
I think it was ITV themselves
There existed a central "network control" who were funded from each region.
