Thank you for your insight, could you possibly do one on Gondolin - I would love to know more about its rise and fall. Its not really mentioned much in TLOR. It’s only in the Rings of Power that we see a little of it. Thanks again take care keep up the good work
@@myriadmediamusingslol yeah, knowing only like a handful of powerful bloodlines will always rule over you, for better or worse. Has to be pretty demoralizing that they can't, like, vote them out haha

They suffered exactly the same as the people in middle earth, but without elves or magic and no happy end
Would you please consider doing a “What If Sam Kept The One Ring?” video, Matt? I know it likely means a spectrum of ever darkening alternate endings, but I’d love to see where you take it by using the primary text as well as any and all Tolkien letters that reference Sam’s character, his loyalty to Frodo, and his interactions with the One Ring. What would happen if Sam never witnessed Gorbag and crew retrieving Frodo’s paralyzed body, and he truly believed Shelob killed Frodo? How would the last stage of his presumably tragic journey change his fate and the fates of Frodo, Gollum, the Fellowship, the Shire and all of Middle Earth? Would Sam make it through Mordor to the peak of Mount Doom? Where and how would he confront Gollum? Would he sacrifice himself to destroy the Ring if presented with the opportunity, or would he keep it? And perhaps most tragically, how would it change Sam’s heart and spirit? Apologies if you’ve already done something like this and I missed it. Just point me where to find it!
I think gollum would end up getting the ring and then shortly after the Nazgûl get it from him forcefully. Then Sauron has the power to win the war and kill everyone we love.
For those who stick with this recounting, there is an unexpected visual treat at 51:54 (on a green banner carried by one of the Rohirrim in the upper left of the picture). Well done.
Thank you for all the information in this video. As someone who read the LOTR decades ago, it's great to have such a source of information. The events in this video could give material for 5 to 10 seasons of a TV Series alone. I would love to see these stories come to life one day.❤😊
how did they manage to build such huge cities and fortresses in a few decades? any theories? and how did they manage to grow a population strong enough to challenge Mordor?
Idk about the building, but as for the population there were already men living in the area. Pelargir was a Numenorian outpost so there had been Numenorians already living in the area that the 5 ships joined. Also there were normal people living in the area, the Numenorians kinda just took charge when they established Gondor. I think of it like the aristocracy was Numenorians while the regular folk were just normal humans. I think that's why Arnor was weaker, because they had alot smaller population to start with.
Oh. And if I haven’t said so recently, you are the single best resource and voice for all things Tolkien, and you just keep getting better. The Tom Shippey of our generation. I mean that. Thank you.
My fondest memories from childhood are family vacations to rite aid. We would travel for a week just to spend a day basking in the joy that is rite aid. I would look at all the deodorant and shampoo. Speaking of Gondor, you should really do a "What if Boromir took the ring?". I would really like to know what Boromir would have done if he had actually succeeded in taking the One Ring from Frodo. Whether he would knock out Frodo or kill him doesn't matter, he would most likely escape just in time to avoid the orc attack. But what would he do? Would he give the ring to Denethor, or would he be tempted by the ring to kill his father Arthas- style and usurp the throne. What would the Fellowship do? Would the orcs still capture Merry and Pippin, and possibly Frodo too this time, or would things be different? Would the rest of the Fellowship go after the hobbits, or would they pursue Boromir to Gondor. What would Gondor do with the Ring? These are some interesting questions. I'd like to know your thoughts.
Nerd of the Rings, I'd like to see the histories of the Beacons of the mountains. If anything actually exists about them. I think it would be cool to hear about and why they were built or what event set them in motion.
I have only 4 days until the deadline of the submission of the scientific article, for which I still have to work on it, but here am I, at 2:00AM watching the history of Gondor
Learning the history of Denethor's resentment towards Aragorn makes me realize how short-changed the final Steward was in the movie. I think that would be okay in regard to the theatrical cut, but I wish the extended editions of Two Towers and Return of the King had fleshed out that aspect of his past to give his character more dimension.
In the books, upon meeting Denethor Pippin thinks to himself that Denethor looked more like a great Wizard than Gandalf did. Gandalf tells Pippin that regardless the generations between, the blood of Numenor ran nearly pure in Denethor, and in Faramir also. The great cares Denethor was burdened with, losing his wife, and later his son Boromir, and especially using the palantir giving Sauron the opportunity to poison his mind with fear and dread all had made him the way he had become by the time of the War of the Ring.
@@captainflamson That really should have been included in the ROTK movie. Audiences would have already been very familiar with Saruman's ability to poison Men's minds, and that would have made Denethor's descent into madness and subsequent suicide even more tragic.

Have you ever thought about reviewing some of the old Middle Earth Role Playing modules? They came with nice maps and artwork, and their content ranged from fitting nicely into Tolkien’s world to some pretty ridiculous stuff.
It was named Gondor after a cultural change led to a surge of seedy dive bars and more than half of the inhabitants were diagnosed with Gondorrhea. This was in the early days of Gondor as a college town.
In the German translation the Gondorians name for Amon Amarth is basically "Mount Destiny". I am not sure if Tolkien was involved in this change.
