Cloud Thief for me, this song makes me think this is a metaphor for losing a part of himself, an essential “something” part of his soul that disappeared sometime, and the singer spends many years searching for it. Only to realize years later only after finding that part of himself, that it was never the part that disappeared’s fault for his depression or feeling lost; it was his own for continuing to search for it.

I have my own theory for this, and, surprisingly, it's not about ghosts.
Song is about two people who are close friends. Maybe, even childhood friends. The tunnel represents their journey on life, on which they guide and help each other. And it lasts one year, two years, five years, and then something happens -- may it be simple disconnection (one person had to move to another place), or rather a quarrel led the friendship to end. In worst case, the two of them are getting into serious trouble(accident, kidnapping or even worse), both escape and survive but both think that other person is dead.
Anyway, person A leaves it behind and just lives normally, with other friends and other interests, while person B can't get over what happened, recalling "the good times" and the day it ended, again and again, asking why it should be like this and being in pain. They cannot make new friends and explore new activities, instead staying with what remains of their past friend and what reminds person B about them. Person B holds dear everything they left with and thinks it's the best they can do for person A.
Then they both meet again, but person B doesn't recognize person A at first and just sees them as an "unknown adult" (possibly because person B never really grew up because of attachment to the past) -- or rather, doesn't want to know person A isn't suffering like them and isn't the same as in old sweetened memories. Person B becomes really angry and hateful, because their own life is basically ruined while person A is happy and confident and probably "forgot" about person B. They start to actually despise person A and blaming them for the long unhappy times, never admitting it was their own decision to act like they did.

Here’s a really really rough translation that I managed to make out with my limited knowledge of Japanese and google translate. I’m mostly unsure of the last 12ish lines
in the dark tunnel we will go
But the good and drunken daughter “thump thump”
One year, two years, three, four, five years go
But then from your back there is none
      Where has it fallen?
      Go back to the search
      Take time in the dark
      To find pieces of you
      Can’t hear the single voice
      Where did you go?
      I’ve been searching forever
      You should have disappeared
      Always picking up
Where will I go to get to you?
      It’s been tied up forever
      You shouldn’t of have gone
It’s because- it’s because of you-
In the dark tunnel there is fireworks
But the flash cannot reach the end
A rainbow light that a single adult can’t understand
      I found it, ah
      Ah I found it again
      Ah, I am next
      Ah, a demon
      Ah, it is so fun
Ah, laughing when it got interesting
In the moment, boom, roar, crash, fall down
      The tunnel now crumbles
      Crumble, crumble, crumble
Have you had fun during your time?
      Where did you go?
      I’ve been searching forever
      You should have disappeared
      Where did you go?
You were tied up until your death
      You shouldn’t of have gone
It’s because- it’s because of you-
      I’ve been searching forever
      You should have disappeared
      Always picking up
I’m out of reach for the rest of my life
Until I die, I was tied up there
As I died, because of you
      It’s not my fault,
      No it’s not my fault
      Ah

    okay I have a theory:
The backstory is that Miku was playing a game with a close childhood friend in some abandonded place (MaYbE a TuNnEl?), but something fell, killing the other child. Their spirit came back to haunt Miku, and as she grew, she physically became an adult, but in her mind she was still a child and was attached to the other child's spirit. As she grows she gets even more regretful and remembers it even more clearly, since the other child's spirit doesn't want her to forget. This entertains the other child's spirit. At one point in time, there's some kind of festivity where she lives where fireworks are set off. These sounds remind her of the other child's death, and she loses it - she commits suicide out of desperation. The "tunnel" thats crumbling is her soul, and herself, as she dies. But she comes back, and sees what happens - she (as a spirit) blames the other child for her death, and is regretful for eternity.
sorry my theories kinda suck but yeah

Wind Power I’ll try to summarize because it’s kind of long. 2 people go into a tunnel and one of them die from starvation and so one of them eat the other (which is why they say “we’ll be together forever”) and so someone finally finds the person after years and the singer think they’re here to kill them (they’re insane so they think this ofc) and so the cave is starting to fall down and the singers final thoughts are that it’s not the singers fault their partner died (basically letting go of the partner / symbolism idk) and then they die

    • @wind3572
      @wind3572 5 років тому +21

@@jxmlentine idk about that. Some things seem to be missing. The singer notes that it's their(the person they supposedly ate, according to your theory) fault they are dying and also asks about how long someone had been "entertained" which is left our of your theory entirely. It's also important to look at things like this through metaphorical lenses sometimes. For instance, the cave could be a metaphor for...something. and it falling down could also be a metaphor for whatever the cave could be a metaphor for crumbling down. Or it could be literal tunnel. As of now, I really can't say. I'm stumped. Also the subtitles aren't perfect...

    • @jxmlentine
      @jxmlentine 5 років тому +7

Wind Power I’m pretty sure these aren’t the right lyrics but I summarized from a theory I saw, so not everything I say could be perfect to the the one I saw. Also not everything has to be metaphorical, every Kikuo song is almost straightforward just like his songs which always leads to someone dying (for example my most favorite “Don’t look at me that way”)

A Carnival of the Afterlife, the cast filled to the brim of former prodigies whose careers were cut short, tortured and abused, yet enduring and strong souls, and some... special guest cast. Its performances would happen in October for all those who manage to stumble upon its various "gates" or "tolls" around the world and be treated with performances which have been refined for decades. However, once every 200 years, the cast is replaced with samples from the audience, living and dead, who practice just like their predecessors in a cycle of eternal improvement and new blood.

  • @Mutilatrix
    @Mutilatrix 5 років тому +1013

OK, here's my loooong rambling theory.🤷‍♀️
Keep in mind this is alllllll my opinion.
The first thing I noticed was the melody in the opening, particularly the starting notes. Kikuo seems to almost use certain melodic motifs when talking about certain subjects. Hole-Dwelling was generally about the afterlife, right? And the Cat's Dining Table was basically about resentful ghost children with only a cat to keep them company?
This song is probably intended to be ambiguous, and I think there may also be some pronoun and subject/object omission issues making our understanding of it murky, but I think it's partially about a child on a journey to the afterlife after being assaulted and murdered by a stranger. There are so many references in other songs to holes and empty spaces being the places where spirits live that I think the "tunnel" is both a physical place and a metaphor for the journey to the greater "hole" of the afterlife, something like tunnel=styx/limbo, hole=hell/nirvana. Regardless, there's a definite story here.
The years being counted in the beginning could be the child counting out their age on fingers, maybe? I think the nursery colors and chalk-like font supports the idea.
We get a good clue with the fireworks. I think there was a child out with their family and seemingly a friend or sibling of similar age, probably during a hanabi festival at night. In some way the children were separated and, in finding their way back, came upon something like a disused underpass or transit tunnel, which to young children might seem very much like an exciting secret tunnel. Obviously, if you're a kid having a fun night at matsuri and you happen to find a secret tunnel with your buddy, you go on an adventure down it on the way back to your group, if it's in the right direction. So they set off on their adventure down the awesome secret tunnel in the dark and in some way one starts to lag behind.
It's a while before the first child realizes they're alone. They turn back, slowly and clumsily finding their way to where their companion "fell" in total darkness, only to find "fragments" of them, possibly things they dropped, but no trace of their friend. The implication is that the friend was taken by surprise without so much as a cry in the dark.
In the chorus, there are actually two "you"s, "you, who are nowhere" and the one the singer now vaguely suspects is following them. They resentfully feel "tied" to the same fate by the friend they turned back for. It's important for nuance that the phrase translated in the video from the beginning as "for your sake" can also mean, more directly, "it's your fault that X," but I'm gonna look like a prick if I start making translation notes.
The fireworks (from a festival?) are far enough away to be inaudible, meaning there's probably no use in calling for help. But they do finally show the child they are in fact being followed by an unknown adult. "I've been spotted/found." The kid pretty much knows there's no hope now.
Under that lens, the onomatopoeia to me actually imply a noisy struggle or a flurry of blows.
The line that translates to "Did you have lots of fun the whole time?" immediately prefaced by "the tunnel breaks apart"… really seems dark as hell. In the worst case, a compound metaphor for the protagonist being r*ped and killed, in the best, just the moment of death as the character's perception of reality fades with consciousness. The singer is clearly more angry and bitter at both her companion and her attacker with each chorus.
So yeah, I really think this song is about an angry murdered child who now can't find their friend in limbo. This is all moony speculation on my part, but that's my best stab at it!
[Edit: wow my reaching and poorly-stated vocaloid theory suddenly has over 100 upvotes, this is unexpected thanks guys💕]

      @Mutilatrix 5 років тому +99

Oh, can't believe I forgot: Keeping with the theme of playing a game, when she says " 次はぼくが, ああ 鬼だね," or something like "Ah, I'm the next demon," I'm pretty sure it's a direct reference to the blindfolded "tag" game similar to Marco Polo in the western world where children chant "鬼さんこちら, 手の鳴る方へ," or "demon, come over here, where my hands clap."
Their game of tag is over, Miku is caught by her assailant and is now "Oni-san" or "it."

Because when I first listened to this song (Yesterday) I thought that it might about a child that was following a stranger that told the child to follow them and took them into a tunnel where the tunnel starts to fall apart while the stranger just laughs while the child’s trying to evacuate the tunnel but gets crushed by a rock and dies.

I think the song is about "I" looking for their friends who they lost due to a lack of communication (The you behind me is gone, all i found were the pieces of you)
    "I" try finding "You"
(The you who was supposed to be nowhere is being gleaned at, to no end.)
The Tunnel Adventure collapses when "You" finds out "I" had been finding him, but "You" doesn't care and is actually being entertained.
Now "I" starts blaming "You" for trying so hard to connect with "You" yet "You" doesn't care.
Tysm here's luck 🎈 For listening/reading my comment!

A comment got be curious about this from different translations for this song (if someone said something similar, then my apologies.)
In 2:49, the person (who the perspective is for this song) uses "boku" // 僕 // ぼく to refer to themselves which is by males mostly (plus most of the text colour is blue). So I am guessing that ぼく is male. If so, it narrows down possible theories for the meaning. Still, if you would like to refer to the character as a female, feel free too. After all, it was purely just a thought I'd like to share.
    Edit:
I realised something else, after a year later. The text when they say "boku" is in hiragana (ぼく), not kanji (僕). That could say something about ぼく's age.
I am not sure what to say about the choice of colour, but to me, the text looks like chalk or colouring crayons, again hinting at ぼく's age.
    pink:
    いっしょに (together)
    きみに (you)
    きみの (your)
    きみを (you)
    きみを (you)
    きみに (you)
    きみの (your)
    せい (fault // because of)
きみのせい (your fault // because of you)
    きみが (you)
    きみを (you)
    きみの (your)
    きみに (you)
    きみの (you)
せいだよきみのせい (It's your fault, your fault // It's because of you, because of you)
    きみのせい (your fault/because of you)
    きみのせいだから (because of you)
red: ぼくのせいじゃないよ (It's not my fault // It's not because of me)
    pink: えぇ? (eh?)
    せい means
"The result that occurs from someone's actions."
    "A result of a cause"
    "Because"
I would assume the result was negative, so I used the word "fault".
Everytime they say きみ with a particle, it's pink. A negative connotation of pink is shallowness, not seeing reality. In the last line, it says "ぼくのせいじゃないよ" (it's not my fault). Maybe きみ can not see what they have done wrong? That would mean red is きみ.

The words are amazing and the melody is amazing. I felt so helpless and hopeless that my heart began to hurt and I think I’m going to cry now.. You were able to convey these feelings wonderfully. This is a very special work!.. Help

okay I came up with an interpretation-
this is about someone who was in a toxic, one-sided relationship who was murdered by their lover. In the beginning, the person didn't realize that they were killed and wanders around a tunnel clueless and confused. When their body was found in the living world, they felt relief because they thought their murderer would be brought to justice. The crumbling of the tunnel signifies the victim realizing the person who found them was actually their lover revisiting the scene years after they killed them. The crumbling also signifies the victim second guessing their relationship, as she always thought they were both happy together. When they say "for long where you always entertained?" this implies that the victim is thinking back on their relationship and realizing how their lover wasn't actually happy with them. Throughout this song it seems the victim has resentment for their lover, believing they should have been the one to "vanish". I believe the line "the you who is never anywhere, is being sought to no end" means that the murderer's love for the victim never existed, and the victim is trying to deny that fact, and believe their relationship was healthy.
I haven't heard other theories on this yet and are still trying to figure this one out :)
