I find Sam's frantic head movement jarring and somehow bird-like, but I appreciate that Christian has significantly reduced the number of "100%s" in his responses.
I agree, smelling good shouldn't necessarily cost a lot, and it doesn't, plenty of affordable designer and even niche options. That's not what Fake is about, they are about wanting to smell like the established expensive one without paying the price, like someone wearing a fake Rolex is after as well
You are absolutely correct. Fake is to fragrances what Pagani is to watches. Pagani is not taking inspiration from a Rolex, but rather they are flat out copying them as cheap knockoffs. Supporting this parasitic relationship seems very odd from someone who clearly appreciates value. There are fragrances that pay homage in a much more tasteful and creative way. AF Fierce was an iconic fragrance for many men who were born in the 80s and 90s. Montblanc and Parfums de Marly both have fragrances inspired by Fierce, but neither fragrance is trying to be a cheap knockoff. PDM is a more luxurious and grown up version of Fierce. I get that Christian doesn't care about fragrances, but he's supporting a company that is basically founded on the idea you can't copyright smell. This company is doing nothing new or creative. They are riding the backs of another company's work and R&D. I like Christian a lot but I am surprised he is okay with this sort of business model from a sponsor.
Chanel Bleu is like $220 for 5oz. I bought mine 3 years ago and have 1/3 bottle left. Good fragrances can be had for not much money and you should pay the salaries of the perfumers that craft them.
Are fake fragrances legal because they’re not trying to pass as being the real thing? Kind of like how the invicta pro diver is very proudly branded invicta
I would imagine so. Same way homage watches like suggests and pagani design are legal. They also market it as “reverse engineering” and it may not a 100% replica, incase they can patent or copyright a scent in the U.S.(which may be possible idk)
The scent itself can be copied and sold by other companies and the scent cannot be like ‘patented’ by a single brand. Just the branding of the scent is often trademarked by the brands. But since formulations are often kept a secret by the companies it isnt impossible to copy or have a similar scent developed
@@MDSkai Somewhat amusingly, Pagani Design's legality is actually kinda dubious because the Pagani Automobili company isn't too chuffed by Pagani Design using that name within Europe.

I completely agree about vintage dress watches. I have 4 Bulova's from the 50's that look like nothing you see now, and 3 Lord Elgin's. 2 drivers from the 40's and a gorgeous Mystery Dial from 1957. You are taking your chances buying vintage watches, but if you find people who are servicing the watches in-house and aren't refinishing them, you can buy with a bit more confidence. My absolute favorite is a 1938 LeCoultre tank that I picked up for a song, looks very classy with a T-shirt and jeans and keeps time like a champ. (for the record, I bought the LeCoultre from a guy in Jersey and he's great)
Well done Sam Some great picks in this video. Love the Longines salmon dial . Love the Nomos WorldTimer blue dial. Would be great to hear your opinion / feature on Frederique Constant and the complications offered for the price point in a future video.
Tissot Heritage 1938 COSC salmon dial has become my every day watch. So comfortable to wear, readable and light. It has a precise accuracy. I have measured it in 62 seconds slow in 16 days. That is less than -4 seconds/day.
Bulova designs in the 60s and 70s were wild! I recently picked up an Accuquartz, and it wasn't until a few days later I noticed the lugs. It's an integrated bracelet, and the upper lugs are big and beefy, and has a fairly fairly wide bracelet, while the lower lugs are curved and sculpted, with a slim bracelet. So starting at 12, they are wide, then taper down to the clasp, but then stay tapered all the way to the lugs at 6.
On top of the vintage gold hamiltons, there’s a ton of great vintage bulovas in that style too. They had the “his exellency” series in the 40s and 50s of small tank watches. And they have really great movements for the era. I have a 1948 model, gold filled, that looks amazing and keeps great time. Found it for $40
I am a long time collector. I have owned a number of tank style Hamilton, Longines, Bulova and Elgin from the 30s to early 50s, and several 60s era Omega. I would advise caution on anything made before 1950 due to extreme age, lack or shock protection and almost no water resistance. If you do takes the plunge, find one that is in clean condition. You don’t need a watch that was ridden hard for 50 plus years. On the other hand, I would suggest vintage watches from the late 60s to mid 70s. Watches of that era still have great design but not as old and better shock protection and water resistance.
The dark blue Yema chronograph you show after the initial images, when discussing the shape of the sub dials (I think the design is called dashboard), is not one of the $370 Rallygrafs. It's actually a limited edition Alpine automatic, mechanical Rallygraf, which sells for $2200 - a beautiful watch nonetheless, and still reasonably priced IMHO.
the longines one... either the small second is smaller and doesnt cut into the 5 and the 7 or it cuts into both... but only cut into the 7 and not into the 5 is just flawed looking AND i loved the copper looking dial and wanted to buy it in vienna and when i saw it in person i cant unsee that questionbale design decision anymore 😅🤔
Don’t listen to the haters! OG Theo and Harris fans know Sam has been part of this family from the beginning. We love Michael and Sam equally. Keep on keeping on!
It's been said before, but I think you're missing the mark on Fake Christian. It feels like you have a lack of knowledge about the craft of fragrance creation and are thus taking it for granted. Perhaps it would be wrong to compare them to outright fake watches, but rather comparing them to homage watches would be the more apt comparison. Are you okay with wearing a homage watch, a 1 to 1 homage, with a reverse engineered movement? Absolutely no craft or design has truly gone in to the watch, there's no considered choices, no expression within it, it's just a reverse engineered knock off, so would you wear it? If you would, or at the very least, you wouldn't begrudge anyone else wearing one, then I don't think you're at risk of being a hypocrite. If you wouldn't wear it, if you'd look down on the homage watch on other people's wrists, then I think you should reconsider your relationship with Fake or risk tarnishing your brand. To sum up, I couldn't see you wearing a knock off Cartier with a different brand on the dial, so why would you wear a knock off Cartier fragrance?
It was a real 70's revisited episode today. Sam even has the start of a 70's comb over going on, which is dedicated, and perhaps beyond the call of duty. "Does Rolex own Pepsi?" is such a funny question because the simple act of calling the color combo "Pepsi" implies that PEPSI owns those colors if anyone does!
I feel like the fake fragrance vs fake watch argument is flawed. Fake fragrances use more synthetic ingredients where it may smell similar to a designer fragrance in the air but when you get close it smells more like chemicals. Therefore, it’s misleading to say they use the “highest quality”. This is important to differentiate since us watch people care about the finer details.
Isn’t that similar to a fake watch manufacturer spraying a hairspring blue to portray Rolex’s silicon one? The fake one won’t have the same properties or longevity potentially, as the original. The argument isn’t flawed; it’s almost directly comparable, no?
@@a-shaw-photo 100% true. It’s a knock-off of a designer product. Whether a fragrance, clothes or a watch it’s the same. Captain Obvious can see this one! makes me wonder.
You're right that not all 41mm watches look the same. I own a 45mm Radiomir that looks just fine on my wrist. Perfect proportions. On the other hand, I used to own a 42mm IWC Portugieser that I had to sell because it looked monstrously large on me. And in my view the width of the bezel is the main variable to determine how large or small a watch looks on you (along with the lug-to-lug dimension as a secondary characteristic). Really, it's the size of the dial that makes the difference in my eyes. I own 33mm and 34mm vintage watches that look just perfect, while I simply could not wear 36mm Datejusts or 34mm Oyster Perpetuals because they looked and felt too small as a result of the super wide bezels and consequently small dials. That's the beauty of design ... you can manipulate people's perspective via a few simple tricks.
So YOU were blue collar and WE're James Bond huh? I'm from a single parent household but still managed to become a WOSTEP watchmaker and was into watches 10 years prior to your birth so you might wanna tone it down a bit there Christian.
That rallygraph is sweet. There are so many more underpriced great watches its hard to cover it all, but finidng ones that are standalone greats, ones that don't ripoff popular brands is the real game. PS I can see the Sam is finding his feet on this channel. I hope we get to see more of him and get to know his story and his personal tastes. I think this channel thrives on individual, and slightly quirky tastes that define each person's life and view points. So I'm excited to see more of that from Sam
Anything cheap or average is not worth making especially if it uses up scarce resources. I think anyone buying a cheap watch should be made to pay the actual cost to the environment for their classless and very basic indulgence. Watches are not a tool and luxury isn't for everyone.
Longines isn't really underpriced. It's just less overpriced than brands like Omega and Rolex.

100%. They don’t last as long and smell more like alcohol. I don’t think the value prop is really there.
If anyone were to “own Pepsi” colors wouldn’t it be Pepsi Cola?
Rolex can’t get ownership of the Pepsi bezel until they figure out how not to mess it up.
BTW, your "cover shot" has a Baltic on it. But we only got Bullcrapova! Was there an error? Is it Sam's fault?

I would have thought that's a 40mm Longines. Maybe because he's topically wearing veey small watches, and maybe his wrist is also like 15-16cm.
Tissot Heritage 1938 COSC salmon dial
The longines is 38.5 though
Gotta remember that we got watch dealers talking (selling) here.
Wich watch Christian is wearing?????????????? I try to identify, but was impossible to see!!!!!!
So YOU were blue collar and WE're James Bond huh? I'm from a single parent household but still managed to become a WOSTEP watchmaker and was into watches 10 years prior to your birth so you might wanna tone it down a bit there Christian.
I love that zoolander voice at 25:24 😂
Facial hair seems to be becoming a major asset on this channel.
What watch is Christian wearing here? Couldn't take my eyes off of it.
This is like when Van Halen put in Sammy Hagar.
Anything cheap or average is not worth making especially if it uses up scarce resources. I think anyone buying a cheap watch should be made to pay the actual cost to the environment for their classless and very basic indulgence. Watches are not a tool and luxury isn't for everyone.
The Bulova mil ships would be a commercial hit at a smaller diameter and larger lug width. It just looks strange now, imho.
Imagine if the bezel moved!
Excellent and interesting selection 👏
Where Michael??
Great episode! Thanks!
