Kai Hahto is the current drummer of Nightwish (he still plays with Wintersun too) Kai had been covering for his friend Jukka at Nightwish, but has been made a permanent member fairly recently. Jukka is still with NW as the manager of their company, but cannot tour anymore due to health reasons.
Kai has a background in Jazz drumming, I guess that's why he knows how to mix it up. Kai made up all the drum parts himself in this one.
Aahh Kai, the human metronome lol. I read somewhere that the drummer who replaced him had to simplify the drumparts of this song!

As a guitarist you should check out Teemus winter madness giveaway.. Teemu (the one with the green guitar) plays the solo of Wintersuns song winter madness, and talks about techniques, he is a insane machine. And keep in mind that the singer, Jari writes and composes all off Wintersuns material.
Teemu's precision and timing in that video don't look human. Either he's some sort of higher-dimensional being or someone perfected a guitar-playing robot with a convincing AI.

Give a try to song "Time" from same band and training session (live from sonic pump studio). That's a song where he growls less but feels those parts are like it's a must to have to that specific song.

Jari was also the original singer for the folk metal heavy weight Ensiferum, and wrote their lyrics for the first two albums, as well as some of the songs.
I'll have to check Ensiferum out too! He's got a great singing style.

What is even crazier is that Jari (reads like Yari), guy who plays white guitar and is brain behind Wintersuns music and lyrics and who is guitar and musical wizard, also wrote, played and sung the entire album by himself, even the drums, which he programmed of course. He is one of the crazy characters in the metal world, and I mean that positively of course.
Yeah, Kai Hahto is now Nightwish drummer. Also very worth seeing is Time from this same session, it's also epic as Sons Of Winter And Stars and Loneliness.

I suggest you react to two other songs from same rehearsals Wintersun - Time and Land of Snow and Sorrow.
Wintersun is from Helsinki Finland. Jari Mäenpää guitarist, leadsinger) is mastermind behind the band and Wintersun started as his soloproject while he was still playing in Ensiferum. He writes all the songs. Other wizards are Teemu Mäntysaari (guitar), Jukka Koskinen (bass) and human metronome Kai Hahto (drummer) who plays of course in Nightwish.
Thank you again for this suggestion and for the new ones, Cashew! I'll probably be doing a poll for Wintersun in the near future to decide what to listen to next and I'll be sure to add these songs to it. I'm sure they're awesome! Cheers!
that type of growling is very common in nordic metal bands, especially from around the 90s and early 2000. anders fridén from in flames is another good example of that style

@@MattFarkas oh yes! they're my favorite band. I Am Above would be a rly good place to start, from their latest album.
they've been around for a while, i think their first album came out in 94. so there's a lot to choose from. the mirrors truth, take this life, the quiet place, trigger, clayman and colony are some of my favorites. only for the weak should also be noted since it is by far their most famous song.
Jari (the Vocalist) have lost 1/4 or 1/3 varies from source, due to TB.
Ps. I wish I was in the same shape as Kai (the Drummer), because I would be gasping for Air after 2 min.
The spanky guitar sound during the "accoustic" part is a piezo pickup in his guitar, you can see a switch for it on his guitar.
As a guitarist, you might even enjoy TIME from the same Sonic Pump session more. Jari (the singer) shows some of his phenomenal guitar playing talent there. Then there is awesome video where Teemu (lead guitarist) shows how he plays their Winter Madness solo. Definitely worth to check that out:

I'm not usually into this kind of metal, but I have to admire the skills and professionalism of the band. I get tired by only watching all of that. 😅
Check out their other songs like: Time, Lands Of Snow And Sorrow and Loneliness.
Less growling and more pure singing (and excellent singing also, to be precise). And more melodic and less Death Metal style.
Of course, then there are also VERY death metal songs, but they are very versatile...

Mutta vaikkapa Amorphiksen ja Wintersunin tuotannossa, joissa sitä on ripoteltu sekaan ja siitä saa selvän. Sekä laulajat pystyvät loistaviin "puhtaisiin" vokaalisuorituksiin, olen tosiaan alkanut sulattamaan myös sitä tyyliä. Ja Mors Principium Est iskee myös ;)

Toistaiseksi seilaan enimmäkseen siellä sinfonisen ja progressiivisen puolella, mutta muutkin kiinnostaa jo. Amorphiksella tuntuu olevan hyvää musiikkia, kunhan jaksaa sen örinän kuunnella. Pehmeämpää "metallia", joka jostain syystä paljolti Suomessa unohdettu kokonaan on esim. Magnum, jonka varsinkin -90 luvun kieppeillä julkaistut lätyt on loistavia (Vigilante, Wings Of Heaven ja tuplalive The Spirit) ja laulajalla on ihan helvetin hyvä ääni! Myös hänen omat soolot kannattaa kuunnella (The Tower, Middle Earth ainakin. Joista ensimmäinen on ihan järjettömän hieno levy)...

That’s the thing with LOCKDOWN 🤣 plenty of time to discover new music. I think I have listened to more new bands in the last 9 months than in the previous 9 years, and this band are way at the top of my favourites. They are MAGNIFICENT 🤘Looking forward to seein who else you got your sights on 🤗
Oh, absolutely the same for me. I'm a metal guy through and through, but there's so many bands out there I've overlooked just because of time. Great to finally hear some of them!
I think people like Jari's high growling because he has very good diction and you can hear what he's saying unlike some others.
Great band with some really outstanding musicians Kai/drummer also is with Nightwish. The lead vocalist had TB which has diminished his lung capacity....that was at 75% !!!
If you want great guitars might I suggest the all female metal band Lovebites and their 2 lead guitarists Midori and Miyako who riff and harmonize like no one else especially LIVE. They are small in stature (5' tall) and look like models but they have brought all the glory of 80's metal (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc..) to a whole new level with a bluesy vocalist who sings in English. They are the vanguard of the all female bands with some of the best guitarist playing today, Band Maid, Mary's Blood, Aldious, Show-Ya, etc.... Let me recommend either Holy War LIVE (ua-cam.com/video/bgAxpEpEcno/v-deo.html) or Scream for Me LIVE (ua-cam.com/video/9Og4gvSUmCo/v-deo.html) as an intro !

Did you know the singer only has 1 and 1/2 lung? And yes, epic. That's exactly how Jari (singer) described it when they asked what genre they play: Epic metal. I'd also describe them as musical intelligent metal. But that's too long. lol
the drummer can rest most of the year in Nightwish and regain stamina :p

@@Gorthol_X Their album Slayer of Gods gets a 9.9/10 from me. Wings of Fire is also very good but I can't give it more than a 9 due to the last two tracks.
Also, if you haven't heard of a band called Whispered, I highly suggest you go check them out. Metsutan - Songs of the Void is a 10/10 album IMO.
