Definitely need to check out the full version. The instrumental break is just iconic - and contains one of the great lyrics "Mama always told me not to look in to the eyes of the sun, but Mama, that's where the fun is." And then they play chopsticks lol. One of those covers that is just so ubiquitous that you don't realise it's a cover because you absolutely never hear the original. 100% cast iron banger.

Ahh,..life was fun back in the day. I got to work for all kinds of bands. It all started when I worked at a place called The Starwood Nightclub. Rock music was everywhere in Hollywood at the time. You couldnt walk two feet without tripping over members of some band.

The use of 2 separate lyrics at the same time is found with even greater effect on the song "Scarborough Fair/Canticle" by Simon and Garfunkel, where there are 2 stories being sung at the same time (one of love and one of war).
One of the best examples of two separate sets of lyrics sung at the same time that's ever been written. Watching the lyric video or lyrics to read along with helps a lot to see the ridiculous beauty of that song and their mind blowing harmonies.

@@brettv5967 I did too and when this version charted here in the UK, I had never even heard of Springsteen, although I was only ten at the time.
I just tend to find that people often prefer the version of a song that they hear first or the one that they are more familiar with.

In my mind/opinion, "blinded by the light" (also) refers to a quite literal light. If you've ever been up on stage giving a performance with spotlights on you (I have from Choir in HS and College) the spots a) generate a ton of heat, so everyone is sweating on the stage from being in their direct light, and b) while it helps the audience to see us, it makes it very difficult for us to see them. The spotlights all but blind us from seeing anything distinctly beyond the end of the stage, which is good as it helps keep us focused on the conductor.
Taking things a step further then, the song could be seen as a metaphor for life. When the spotlight focuses on us, it blinds us to the world around us, so take care not to stand in it for so long that you miss out on other great things life may have to offer but you can't see because you're hyperfocused on the only thing you can see-what's right in front of your face.

Manfred Mann was a band that rolled with the times. They had three big songs in three big era's. Doo Wah Diddy in the early 60's Beach Boys kinda thing. Mighty Quinn for the psychedelic late 60's (Bob Dylan cover) and this mid 70's cover of Springsteen channeling Dylan.

Great song. Manfred Mann is the lead singer on this song and also the keyboard player. His first group, simply called "Manfred Mann" had a couple of top ten hits in the U.S (and 13 in the UK)., "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" and "The Mighty Quinn". Manford Mann sang mostly backup vocals in his bands and played keyboards, "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" was sung by Paul Jones, who also played harmonica in some of their songs.
"The Mighty Quinn" was sung by Mike d'Abo, who also wrote the hit "Build Me Up Buttercup" which was a hit by The Foundations and the bass player was Klaus Voorman who also plays the flute in the song. Voorman went on to become a legendary bass player who played with a huge number of top artists, including the Beatles (both as a group and with each of them in their solo albums), The BeeGees, Nilsson, The Rolling Stones, BB King, Lou Reed and way too many more to list!
I would love to see you react to either of those two songs, although I favor "The Mighty Quinn" which was written by Bob Dylan, although it wasn't officially released by him until a couple of years after Manfred Mann's recording was released.
