The owner is a nice chap, I wish him well for his future wedding. His car is turning out to be nothing but beautiful. I hope he buys an e type for it's companion!
They say Germans have no humor, but they sure had taste! What a beauty!
For me the 190 SL is pure elegance.
In the late 50s in Germany, the 190SL was often seen in a combination with a young lady who worked as an high class escort in Frankfurt. Her name was Rosemarie Nitribit. She was killed at the age of 24, and the murder never found. She had a black 190 SL with red leather interiour. Rumors say that in the days she was in her ''active'' working live, some wealthy ladies in the Frankfurt area sold their 190SL, because they dont wanted to be mismatched with Rosemarie. For the Reason of ''Rosi'', the 190SL had a very distintive reputation here.
Gary, many thanks for this pisode. A beauty takes shape again.
Great story!
Therapy for Sunday morning viewing..
Agreed. I’m really pissed off right now and watching these videos is therapeutic and calming
Watching Gary Maver's Classic Obsession is like watching Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood as a kid but made for grown ups!
Love the background music.
An excellent job Gary to your usual fantastic standards.I m just itching to see it back on the road. This SL 190 is the best looking of them all , and you really have done it justice.
Loved seeing such a lovely car slowly improving, becoming a functioning beauty again...almost! Usual problem, one thing leads to another, to another!! Ifind your style of delivery very theraputic! That car deserves to be back on the road again, for people to see and admire. Great video Gary.
Your videos are refreshingly different Mr. Mathers. Carry on mate.
Water boiled, tea made and now relaxing and watching the meticulous Mr Mavers at work. It doesn't surprise me, at all, how Mercedes re-packages cloned parts. It seems that so many are in the same game.
Come back soon and have a lovely Christmas.
Another fine installment, illustrating why classic cars cost so much to own.
I really don’t know how you do it (well, I do, brilliant, well thought out production, and great cars) but I find your films so damn satisfying and relaxing to watch!!!❤
Hello Gary. This beautiful 190 SL required lots of love and attention. Fortunately you are the one that will bring this Mercedes back to life. Hopefully the owner will appreciate all your efforts and dedication. On top the facilities in terms of equipment and work space are really limited. Up to now your job is amazing. Well done and thank you for sharing with us. Greetings from Germany. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻😊🇩🇪
What a special car. Great work on her Gary
Wonder if this was rhe 190 SL that a classmate of mine spent hours on in 1974(?) while attending USC? Remember him chasing all over LA to buy an original dash clock and other parts.
Nice one. Gary, lots of TLC is making a huge difference to the engine bay. Looks like the better weather over there has kept siezed bolts to a minimum. Well done. Enjoyed the episode very much 👌
what a brilliant video, it's so nice to have a video with a human touch as well!
Fantastic Gary👏👨🔧
Thank you, down to earth
Well done Gary, 👍🏻😀
Awesome Gary ❤
Gary you are the best! 👍
Your videos are bringing back fond memories of my ‘61 190SL. It was white with black interior. Sold it back in 2011. If there were videos like this back then, I may have held on to it and did some needed work on it myself.
WOW GARY WHAT A GREAT CAR AND MECHANIC HAPPY CHRISTMAS SIR
Merry Christmas!
Lovely you got her nearly done just the pipe to replace. You’ve gone amazing job and he will appreciate that and and the lovely 190SL will also because let’s all be honest she should on the road I instead off being sat in garage 👌👌👌
You remind me so much of my Dad , he did cludgses and brakes on the drive.. pump, pump, hold. At years old.🥳😍
What a beautiful video 🥰🥰 are you going for the new James Bond movie ?
To play his father!! Regards.
Another good job done well Gary 👏👏👏
Really enjoying your videos you explain all things and make it look so effortless, the music accompanying the videos works well always look forward to your videos not just this but all your others ,keep up the good work ,very relaxing viewing ☺️
I don’t currently own a vintage Mercedes in need of restoration but if I did Gary would be the person I’d have work on it.
Nice job Gary!
Amazing Gary, truly amazing.
Having read your reply to another comment about your background, may I ask if you are self taught as a mechanic? You seem to have pretty detailed knowledge on all the cars I’ve watched you repair and restore and your results are excellent. Thanks for the videos. 👍🏆
Yep. Self taught. Regards
Merry Xmas to the Classic Obsession team. From your fans in Crich.
All the best for a merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year ahead. x
Amazing Gary
The way you dismantle everything and them you remember how everything gord again is remarcable.
You ate the best Gary simply the best
Great work on that fire wall. Didn’t see it on the video but seam sealer around all the tin joins is great stuff before top coat. That’s a lot of work in around there
Without doubt one of the most beautiful cars ever... well done 👍👍
Patience payed off. Looks many 100% better , well done Gary
Great show and the detail into the instalations is second to none, well done Gary Lad!
Great job Gary looking forward to seeing the car in motion.
You have monumental knowledge
It is such a beautiful car, well done.
More top work Gary ,Dan seems well smitten with your transformation on his 190 which looks real cool ,again a while back now I used to gaze at one in cars of distinction Hatton garden Liverpool, keep it all going ,thanks again.😊
Love these episodes on the 190SL 👍
Please do the video on balancing the carbs Gary... I need to do that too! :-)
Ok. I’m back over there in January. Regards.
Congratulations Gary on such a beautiful result after your dedicated work. A lovely car is now back on the road. A credit to you.
Greetings from Australia. Had to laugh when you mentioned in the earlier episode with the 50 Series Land Cruiser. That Aussies love Land Cruisers, boy do they ever!
Lovely car. My neghbour rebuilt one back in the early 80s. Coincidentally he also had an old Landcruiser J40 variant.
Marvellous video I leaned a lot. I am a SL fan cannot afford a 190 but have owned a 1999 SL320 that I keep as immaculate as I can. I noticed that you were working through so much muck and corrosion I thought Californian cars were rot free, where's that car been? Great work cannot wait to see the finale and a great detail!
Hi, no there’s faith and surface rust but corrosion is zero honestly. Apart from brakes and wear and tear on some mechanical parts, the car really is in remarkable, original condition. But still, a whole lotta work!! Regards.
Nice job Gary 10 out of 10 from draycott Gary all the best for the new year
Nice. One question - it looks like those were standard American hose clamps instead of the Norma clamps that I would expect to see on a European car.
Jeff. I searched hi and low for descent hose clamps and literally that’s all I could find. In the end I got tired of driving around. Everything is so far away there. Regards.
Seasons Greetings Gary
Another fabulous video on the SL in sunny California
Does this mean we need to send the 928 gt to sunnier climes from Baltic Liverpool for some love?😎
Liverpool has the Baltic Triangle, don’t send the car there 😂
It’s rained in Liverpool for 4 months non stop! Regards.
Hi Garry enjoying your videos tremendously. I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions 1 is there a reason why you swap from one car to another instead of working on one to the finish . Watching your videos is there any job on a car you would not do yourself. third & how many hours a week do you put in & your knowledge on cars is fantastic are you self taught or are you a mechanic please keep your great videos coming please thanks Andrew
Hi. I’ll have a go at anything. I think home mechanics, having time to spend, tend to do jobs more thoroughly with better results. Garages seem to work on a quick turnaround so things are often not done or overlooked I find. I’m not a trained mechanic but self taught and learning all the time. Regards and thanks for your support!
And working a lot of hours lately!!
I really love your videos, specially I have enjoyed these series, since I’m Mercedes-Benz collector. Can you tell me where did you find all these classic parts? Are all from Mercedes Classic?
Hi, no. I get some parts from them but mostly from Vintage Euro parts in Santa Clarita. Mention my name when you call them. Regards.
What a great job on a really cool car Gary. Smashed it again 💪🏻 in real time how many hours did it take ?
So far 120 hours. Regards.
I am surprised that in the California FREAK SHOW, you were even able to purchase spray paint. Beautiful car, and well done.
Hub Cap Diamond Star Halo.........get it on....🎉
🤘😎🤘
Good job Gary, did you used to be a mechanic before an actor?
No I was a butcher then worked for a year as a carpenter. Regards.
Nice, but isn't the engine compartment supposed to be body colour like on the Pagodas?
No, I don’t think so but I stand to be corrected. Every other one I’ve seen was satin black. Regards.
I believe you are right, makes a lot more sense than body colour as that makes it easier to keep the engine bay looking clean and makes colour changes less challenging - thanks for your wonderful videos, they're my favourite bedtime stories 🙂 @@classic.obsession
Using a spray can to paint in the engine bay, did you use a wrinkle or hammered finish paint?
Heat resistant satin finish. Regards
Hi Gary,
what paint code is the paint that you use for the gold colour on the brackets? Love your work thanks for making these videos.
I just picked up a hold aerosol. I’ll have to look at the van next time over but any gold should do. Regards.
@@classic.obsession Thank you Gary, it’s a great idea and it looks mint.
Ok I have to ask where your music is from Gary? 👍
Free UA-cam tunes
Since you did this, Dan lost weight, got a hairpiece and now the girls call him a young Mavers.
can i ask the registration no at the back had 2022expiry date episode 1 yet in episode 5 it is 2004 can you explain
Hi James. No I can’t explain but I can ask the question when I’m next over. Regards.
Gary ever thought of a merc R107 ?
Yes they’re nice cars. Suffered from rot behind the bulk head and chassis and I always found their seats a tad uncomfortable. But, although the we Ed a lot of them about
Although there’s a lot of them about I think they’ve become a real classic and prices for the 500’s have been on the rise for a while now. Regards
