There are plenty of forests and camping spots in the East Coast. You are just not going to find them if you stay in the I-95 corridor. There is a whole world outside of that area on the east coast.
Yeah I grew up in New Hampshire. I live in Washington State. There's infinite places to camp in VT, NH, and ME and they are all gorgeous, lush forest that is much more green than Western states during the summer. And there's a LOT better places to swim than in WA State. Lakes out here in WA State are generally more desolate, often glacier so they're cold, and the weather doesn't get hot enough to enjoy a good swim.
@@dave3617There are plenty of great swimming spots in Washington. And not all of them are isolated. But the isolated ones are better because there's no people around to ruin the fun. And you just have to swim during the Summer when it gets hot enough to swim. Me and my family literally go to diffrent simming spots all summer long here in Washington.
@@chrizmerk756 And how many spots in NH or VT have you and your family been to? I've lived in WA State for 13 years and I spent the first 19 years of my life in New Hampshire. Sorry, but I'm speaking from experience. I'm not here to debate someone with a biased opinion who hasn't experienced both sides of the country.
Get a trucker GPS unit... Program the height of your van and it'll notify/detour you if the route is approaching low clearance. GPS units also doesn't need cellphone service; they're always connected to the satellites I mount mine on center or to the left of the A pillar Happy Travels 😊
You definitely need to come to upstate South Carolina! so many lakes, rivers and waterfalls to explore with plenty of free camping. Would love to see you explore smaller areas.
I lived in Oregon and there are only two states where you can't pump your own gas. Oregon and New Jersey. The reason is to provide paying jobs for people was the reason given to me. I was in Newark, NJ at WhiteCastle and I forgot I couldn't pump my own gas.
Because of the fire hazards associated with pumping gas- Oregon just lifted their ban on pumping gas now NJ is the only state left where you can’t pump gas
I feel and function better when I take a shower. Sometimes going to Planet Fitness is inconvenient. I bought a Geyser shower system for those occasions. It takes very little setup- a shower curtain isn't necessary, and there's very little grey water to dispose of. I was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing it is. I set it to a low flow rate and make multiple passes over my body with the sponge for 5-7 minutes then I detach the sponge, turn up the flow rate and rinse off using the spray nozzle for 1-2 minutes. It may not be as relaxing as a traditional shower, but I feel just as clean.
Ryan, I like these day to normal day living type of videos. Heck they are also better than no video and it is nice to keep up with your daily activities. Been with you since your first few videos and glad to see you still enjoying it. 'Til the next one be well.
As an urban van dweller, my favorite overnight parking spot is a 24hr convenient store. What's not to like? Fuel, restroom, basic supplies + foodie deals! Easy to blend in. Next is the 24hr gym. No parking hassle, exercise equipment, climate controlled, bathroom, hot showers. Last but not least, 24hr restaurants, Waffle House, IHOP, Dennys ect... make sure to patronize these businesses. Buy some Fuel, food or a cup of coffee ect. Like your channel man. Screw the mortgage con and mafia style vig rent. Van life is definitely worth a consideration.
I have heard suggestions that many Planet Fitness employees are well aware that full-timers (who are also members) overnight in their parking lots and don't care. Honestly, so long as they don't drop a bunch of litter or anything like that, why should they care?
@@thevagabondonwheels4918that’s great. As long as the van lifers keep their stuff clean and keep the gym and bathrooms they use tidy, they’ll probably continue to not bother them.
Look up the Dawn power wash - it is a foam like spray that is amazing for cleaning up even the greasiest of dishes - using just 2 micro dish towels, the one I use damp and to clean with the power wash, then a small pan of water to dip and rinse, then the dry towel to dry it off. I use minimal water this way when camping and it is a true water saver! Hope that helps.
I am making plans to go SUV camping on the East Coast soon. The Dawn Power Wash has been such a dramatic change to my dish washing at home. Very little water needed even on greasy pans.
Really enjoyed just”hanging out” with you during this video. Wouldn’t mind seeing more like this at least weekly. Your share of travel time really makes my day. Peace!
I'm the same as Ryan as far as lonely/being alone. I very rarely ever get lonely, I actually prefer to be alone and very quiet, I don't enjoy chaos. But say if I go on vacation or something, I go from introvert to extrovert pretty quickly.
Exact same here! I prefer quiet and nature over people ANY day. I think the most disgusting thing I’ve done is go on a cruise. Man, the way people act these days is just sad.
I haven’t lived on the east coast/driven the NJ Turnpike in 30 years, but I remember those turnpike rate tickets well. I can’t believe they haven’t updated the system in all these years!
You literally were parked outside my first apartment in philly. It’s a pretty safe neighborhood, I would walk around the area at all hours of the night never felt unsafe. In philly young bulls riding on their atvs is a sign the weather is nice! Moved here 10 years ago and I still love it here.
I enjoyed this casual day-in-the-van-life video. I don't always need to see a hike or other tour, or a complex meal preparation. This is perfect just as it is.
Hey Ryan! I sure hope you're heading to Salem Mass on this trip! We just got back and it's incredible. We go every year. You will be AMAZED at all the street food, Artists, Carnivals, Haunted Houses, etc.. It should be a MUST do for your New England trip! Mark from Nashua NH
From a sauce-less sandwich to hitting the vending machine jackpot, you're on a roll - even if the traffic isn't! 😄 Might start taking bets on when you'll run out of water, but then again, with your uncanny water-sense, my money's on never. Shower or not, at least you've got a new figurine buddy to judge you in silence. Navigating rest stops and unexpected detours, you sure know how to make it entertaining. Keep it up, and always here for the ride!
By 1968, putting fuel in your own car was banned in 23 states. “Because of the fire hazards directly associated with dispensing fuel, it is in the public interest that gasoline station operators have the control needed over that activity,” New Jersey's law states.
Parkways are the worst! When I first got my short bus I could not find the alternate routes. I learned to type “truck route” and it helps. I stealth camp in Brooklyn when I visit my son… if you can get a spot it’s really no big deal! This is my first winter out west… what a difference and very easy to park and camp ✌🏼🚐✨✨
You should watch some Japanese van life channels. You can cover your pots and pans with tin foil so there is no clean up, even bowls and plates can be covered in a heat resistant plastic, so no washing needed.
Dude, should’ve headed west into PA! The beauty of Pennsylvania is everywhere but the cities lol all the small rural towns are what make PA, PA. A couple of places I recommend are Jim Thorpe (cool little touristy town. The PA Grand Canyon area is beautiful. Cherry springs is a really cool camping area as well! You could also head to southern PA to visit Gettysburg, lots of cool stuff to see here! Love your videos man, keep it up!
I don't quite get what he's doin in the E coast cities. I've been everywhere in the US except ME AK HI, and E coast cities just don't do it for me. I don't get tempted to hit a town unless I'm around Miami or maybe taking the subway in for the Mall in DC or the museums in NYC. But really it's back out to the four corners, NW, & intermountain W. Stop in KC or Fredericksburg TX for BBQ, maybe a day or two in New orleans, I'm GONE to New Mexico & onward. Oh, and here's a tip for cross country. Get a kayak or take up golf. ALL the seemingly boring areas have lakes or rivers, and most have cheap golf. Some have such good cheap golf I end up staying a couple days, but in any case 9 holes or a paddle makes a travel day a lot more fun. Lose the golf bag: too much space. Improvise with a backpack etc. I'd really like to try a folding kayak too. Sharon PA is a CLASSIC example vis a vis golf. They have a really nice 18 hole old oak course called tam o shanter for maybe 20 bucks... plus there's nine holes FREE by the park in town. Crazy.
@@martina21953 well you really need something to do if you're traveling across the flat part of the country a lot. Kayaking works pretty well too. You find nice lakes everywhere the same way you find nice golf courses.

I just finished my goal of travelling to all of the lower 48 states within five years. This was done in my Ram Promaster (High top) Van and I checked that box end 2023. Last year I travelled the east coast. It is certainly harder for a RVer to find places to overnight that on the western side of the country. In fact looking from west to east...from around TX east , does it gets challenging. I stayed mostly at Walmarts and good ole Cracker Barrell. Thank goodness for those two.
You should stay at Sheetz on the east coast (and shower at Love's). In Texas and areas that have a Buc-ee's, you should sleep in a Buc-ee's parking lot.

I really love your van! I hope to get and build out my own as soon as I can, break free from rent and get out and explore my state. I would love to slightly copy and slightly modify your van setup, and have everything I needed out on the road like you have set up for yourself. Love your videos and maybe in a year or so I'll be ready to cut the cord, so to speak.
Great video, you definitely should do more. Also we call them "rest stops" not service centers, that might be just a Connecticut thing lol. Getting gas in Jersey, if you're in a hurry you can just get out and pump your own gas. Wawa's are usually fine with it. But in Jersey you can't pump your own gas or make left hand turns and have to pay to leave the state :)
I just got back from a similar NE trip and highly highly recommend visiting Montreal if you’re able to. Definitely the highlight of my trip, super easy to get to from NY, and gorgeous. Maybe a poutine taste test? If you do go my poutine vote is for Ma Poule Mouillée!
I downloaded the LOVE'S app and really wanted to take a road trip before the winter. I planned on car camping sleeping at LOVE'S or other truck stops and Cracker Barrel in a pinch. I've been putting off rigging up blackout curtains for the back of my Dodge Grand Caravan. Wanted to try East but it looks like it's a lot easier traveling West if you're going to be car camping.
When you went across the Ben Franklin Bridge, you were 10 minutes from my house! You coulda stopped in & clean up, re-supply, plug in....whatever you need!
Salem might be a zoo this time of year with halloween not too far off. You could park in like a nearby city near the train and take the train to Salem and walk around. Or head up to Hampton Beach/Salisbury beach, not sure whats happening there the next few weeks. Also Rt 133 through Essex Ma , there are some great fish food places. And Rowley flea market on Sunday.
If you ever come t Western Massachusetts hit a brother up and come have a warm meal and shower. I live alone with 3 bedrooms. I'll also show you some pretty cool local places and restaurants if ya want. Love your videos bud. Thanks for taking us along.
A friend of mine lives in New Jersey. She said and heard from a few it is to provide employment to the people that are pumping the gas. The first time I encountered it I was outside of my vehicle and very nicely asked to get in my car and the attendent will pump the gas.

Getting gas in Jersey, if you're in a hurry you can just get out and pump your own gas. Wawa's are usually fine with it. But in Jersey you can't pump your own gas or make left hand turns and have to pay to leave the state :)
Exit 10, that's one exit from my home, great to see this.
Hospital parking lots are my go to.
I would have absolute anxiety going thru there. It has been 24 yrs since I went thru atlanta, ga. I couldn't even do tht now forget this place.
I absolutely love your van👍👍🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀
NYC on the weekends isn't too bad tbh. You can find a low-key spot to park in the outer boroughs.
Cooking gormet gas station food would have been a fun addiction
Hey, you are very funny. When you are stressed or confused, you say "anyways" a lot :))
Pachuag State Forest in Voluntown, CT. Great campsite with water to fill up if you’re in the area 👍
Nice, kitchen towels! Perfect for hand wiping 😉
Jersey shore is great this time of year. ❤
When you went across the Ben Franklin Bridge, you were 10 minutes from my house! You coulda stopped in & clean up, re-supply, plug in....whatever you need!
That's my life. I live in my minivan in North Carolina. I usually sleep in Craker Barrel or hotels.
East coast hype, please do NYC camping 🥺
You have to hit up Rhode Island for the food! Especially Providence! You will not be disappointed.
Truck stops have showers.
I grew up on the east coast and after watching this l am
so glad l live out west
If you ever come t Western Massachusetts hit a brother up and come have a warm meal and shower. I live alone with 3 bedrooms. I'll also show you some pretty cool local places and restaurants if ya want. Love your videos bud. Thanks for taking us along.

Love this format, love the "no speaking - day in the life" format, they're all great
We don't need adventure to enjoy this journey w/ you
A friend of mine lives in New Jersey. She said and heard from a few it is to provide employment to the people that are pumping the gas. The first time I encountered it I was outside of my vehicle and very nicely asked to get in my car and the attendent will pump the gas.
Truck-Stop sunset 🌅 👌

Man i love your videos all the way from Soweto in South Africa
