IAMLXGEND, this is wonderful, thank you for doing this. I have been doing music cover videos for about a year and always knew I should upgrade my vocal recording to GarageBand but could never find a tutorial that clicked with me. I'm just an amateur having fun producing videos, but I hope to improve my vocal tracks using your instruction. Thank you again!
Lots of love from india😊😊I just love your contents can u please make a separate video about how to make normal guitar and vocals more attractive...?🙏🏻🙏🏻and crispier
I already did a video on EQ: ua-cam.com/video/jEaELhJbCk4/v-deo.html For guitar, I don’t record guitar ever so I’m not the best person to ask. I use VSTs
also can you do a video on formatting a track for beginners, in terms of knowing how many sounds should be used for the hook vs the verses and bridge, and transitioning that, if that makes sense, I just watched your video on making beats for beginners and wondered this 😩😩
All of that is subjective. There’s no set amount of how many sounds should be used for what. It’s just whatever you want to do and what sounds good to you without overloading the listener. I do have a video on song structure: ua-cam.com/video/QI_nJsccwhk/v-deo.html
You create by far the best Garageband tutorials as far as video quality and actually talking about what you're doing in an understandable way. I have 2 suggestions after watching 4 of your vids today searching for how to mix rap vocals on google, forums, gearslutz, youtube etc. 1: Include a link in your description to your music, you have so many views you have mid stream ads in your vids and no doubt are locking down some profits from googleadwords type ish, I checked out your website for beats but...where are UA-cam links to your raps? Self promote! You got talent. 2. Create a tutorial on how to mix rap vocals - IN DETAIL (versus just do it until it sounds right - not everyone has context or an ear for music like that). I've watched your vocal and harmonies, how to get autotune right, how to EQ vocals, how to mix and master (thanks for the Landr reference) but there still isn't a breakdown for things like what the mix actually is for high pass filters, reverb amount if any, high cuts, low cuts, how to balance tracks stacked for the right sound (tho that tip about not copy and pasting but doing doubles with dif panning is something I've used as well that's dope for a more 3D sound space) Spending an hour today I still haven't found what I'm looking for, which is a break down of specifically how to mix rap vocals the best way that sounds tight as far as specifics for the levels of each of the plug ins for each of the vocal tracks. When I released Rep My City I mainly used variations of parallel compression on Garageband and then imported all the tracks into a new Garageband project and mixed everything from there to make sure it sounded even. I think there are buses and sends on Garageband (newer versions) I need to find because that levels up your echo game and creating headroom in the track with compression and balances between the beat and the vocals. I think after failing today to find a good vid on how to specifically mix rap vocals I'm going to go back to parallel compression as I got some fire I need to drop on soundcloud, my website and YT (my other rap YT account) after I get it mixed nice. Also, while I'm not in San Diego, I think you got a nice sound from the snippets I've heard in the YT vids, if you ever want to collab via drop box garageband tracks I"m down. This is my latest track I'm on the 2nd verse and hook soundcloud.com/syllable/i-dont-need-that
1. There’s often links in the videos in cards or end screens to songs I’ve made and usually included in my tutorials already are the songs I’ve created myself and am working on. I’m already self promoting. But I’m not going to promote music that isn’t there yet. All my current music can be found on my channel. Under the current LXGEND moniker there are only 2 songs to link. 2. I have already created a tutorial on how to mix rap vocals in as much detail as I know how to explain. Everything I know and everything I do I showed exactly how I do it and why in that video. To make another one would be just me repeating the same things over again. Not everyone has context or an ear for that. But also not everyone is a teacher. I am not a teacher. I just share with people how I personally work. If it resonates then cool. If not, there’s nothing I can do about that. As shown, I don’t know all technical terminology and I already know how I mix is most certainly not even the “industry way” entirely to do it. I never post a video without already stating every single bit of information I know on a topic as I know it. What you see is what you’re gonna get. So my mixing video, that’s as detailed as you’re gonna get from me because that’s literally the only way I know how to explain. I learned everything on my own, by ear... so by ear is literally the only way I know how to tell this information. I did not go to school for music. Ever. Also, I already have a video where I talk SPECIFICALLY about highs, lows, mids and effects in a completely separate 15-20 minute video. How to EQ vocals in Garageband. It’s already there, you’ll find it in my tutorials playlist. All that extra stuff you mentioned is already talked about in all of my videos. Not just one. And thank you for checking out the videos and dropping a comment.
It isn't really about an industry way or not, different people learn different ways. For me personally, if i have a specific template for what a good vocal mix sounds like and it's down to the exact amount (when you press 'A' on the GB track the slide bars appear to adjust the kind of specifics I was looking for) , that allows me to play with it and do what you do from the start and feel it out. Kind of like learning a blues scale on piano and improvising new melodies from it after you have a framework to move from. So my bad for asking for something that isn't what you can/want to offer. And I see where you're talking about about the 13 min mark on the EQ vocals vid, which is good, just not exactly what I'm looking for. But who am i to say anything about free content ? I know what I need to do. Thanks for providing a resource that helps a lot of people starting out
I know it isn’t. People do learn different ways which is why I share the way I do it. lol. By just whatever sounds good. This is my workflow. It doesn’t matter to me how I get the finished product. Just as long as I get to it. And yea it’s not that I don’t want to offer it. I already am just in the only way I know how. And No problem. Thank you 🙏🏾
Great video. Very helpful. Toward the end you started speeding up which made it a bit hard to follow. How could we increase the volume of a track? Thanks again for an excellent and helpful How To video.
Just rewind and rewatch. You can also change the speed of the video to half speed so it goes slower. To increase the volume just slide the volume slider on the track header to the right.
The sound is a part of the screen recording so I create a multi-angle camera clip with all the angles and use the audio from the screen recording to sync with the audio from the camera and mute the camera audio so you only hear the screen recorded audio.
I’ll see if I can work on one. It’s a bit hard for me to teach because I do it naturally. I’ll just have to figure out how best to explain it. I think there’s a tool I have to help as well.

@@IAMLXGEND thanks for your response. When you produce with mashine do you add any vocals with machine tracks? The reason for my question. I'm a guitarist and I'm thinking about purchasing either the machine MK3 or the mpc live. I like the fact that the mpc live have audio tracks but I like mashine Sound library but I haven't seen a way to record audio with mashine other than sampling.
No. I only use Garageband for any and everything related to vocal production. Maschine I only use for in-program sounds and VSTs. No vocals whatsoever. Unless it’s a sampled sound.
No. I use my Maschine to produce, entirely, by itself. No other program or DAW. Just Maschine. When I want to start adding vocals, I export from Maschine to a wav file. Import wav into Garageband. Record in Garageband. No other programs. Just Maschine for music. Garageband for vocals.
Hi! Ive searched and googled and i cannot! get it to show me the pedal board button :( working on garage band mac os, seriously been searching for hours
hey quick question! love your vids and was wondering why all my tracks get the same effects? for example, I have my beat at the top like you’re showing in your tracks, but if I were to add a vocal effect or waves auto tune on a vocal track, separate from the beat, it effects the beat also. it’s been driving me crazy! hope that makes sense lol
Hey LegendI am so hoping you can help me with a vocal volume problem I am having. I use garageband and a pretty inexpensive Behringer B1 condenser mic. The problem is that when I have finished making the music (rock music let`s say) and then record the vocals, even when I put them on max volume they are not loud enough. I record them with the maximum levels possible (not goin into the red). I usually crank the guitars and drums and bass up pretty high (in volume). It`s rock music I want it loud! Am I putting the instruments too loud and drowning out the vocals? Is it the mic that is not good? I do sometimes double the vocals and it helps but should I have to do that? Any help as to why my vocals are not loud enough would be so much appreciated. I love your channell and videos so much. Always well explained. And is there a better mic, in the 300$ range that would help? And when making a rock song (olr any song)should the drums be on max volume ? Hey sooooooo many thanks. Much appreciated.
A small and simple Steinberg U12. Thanks. Someone told me that I should not have the drums cranked up to the maximum level. That is what drowns the vocals out. Make sense? I was told to keep them about -5.0 db.
Larry's tunes yes you should have nothing cranked to the absolute maximum in reality. That’s a recipe for disaster. But I do also know some preamps are quieter than others that’s why I asked for that as well.
Does anyone know how to comp vocals in GarageBand? I’m looking for tutorials on it and can’t find any? Like how would I record a bunch of different takes and choose the best ones? (I think it’s called comping vocals) thank you :)
IAMLXGEND hey thanks so much for replying. Is there a way though to make that I don’t have to push record while I’m trying to do multiple takes? Or will I have to quickly push the arrow down and then R? Sorry for all the questions
Question: I have my lyrics. I want to record vocals and put loops for the music. I am confused about the scale to choose, lets say I chose G-Major, then do I need to import only the G-Major loops or they get automatically converted into the selected scale/key in the project after import ? I don't think I can get the loops I want in the same scale and tempo that I want. Every loop on internet is with a different scale and tempo than what I need in my project. Please help
Yes. If your song is in G Major then only those sounds i the same key work. Otherwise its going to sound like a total mess completely out of key. Nothing gets converted automatically. Unless you’re using Apple’s Audio Loops built into the program. They should automatically change to the correct key. But sounds of your own that you find do not. You can use samples.landr.com to find and sort song keys and such for loops in the key you’re looking for.
can you make a video tutorial on how to use your template? like where to put your vocals on which track? I seem to get lost on where to put what bc they're all named the same...
@@IAMLXGEND honestly idek im barely geting into garageband. What im doing is i donwload the beat as a mp3 and i open garage band to a microphone preset and i drag the beat from the downloads into the app and when i press play it just goes super fast
You don’t set up pitches. That comes from your own singing. If you mean patches, then it has those but it’s set to how I do my vocals. Won’t be the same for everyone. You can use the ones I have set but may want to try others specifies for female vocals.
@@IAMLXGEND nooo it didn't bother me to hear the noise in your video , but when (I'm) trying to sing on garage band , it still like something noisy in the background which is not acceptable at all
The entire point of stacking vocals is recording unique separate vocals. If you just duplicate it it doesn’t have the same effect at all cuz it’s literally the exact same vocal. Duplicating a vocal is the same as just keeping one and turning it up. You HAVE to actually record 4 individual tracks the exact same way as I explained.
It’s panned to the left. When you pan all the way to the left, it comes out only the left. The purpose of panning is to get a fuller surround sound. So you pan 100% left. 50% left. 100% right. 50% right. Record the same part 4 times on those tracks. And all the tracks together will come together as one that sounds equal. You don’t want to pan to the left and only record one. If you’re doing a lead you don’t pan the track at all. Leave it in the center.
@@IAMLXGEND Do you have a video I can watch how to do that, I always get Inspirations but dont know how to record , want to start recording, I Have laptop and iPhone and already ordered microphones, I have watch many of video which inspired me, please show me how to attach beat in garageband thank you
An alternative way is to view the bottom left of the screen in the editor window while selected on the track. Scroll down and you’ll see a plugin window there in list form.
One thing that is very unclear for me is the tact between multiple tracks. I can't record multiple tracks in tact, don't really understand how to make it sound accurate. I am new to this sorry if it's something obvious!
Poor explanation by me, my bad. For example, I put in a synth with a melody I like, then I want to put in some bass in a new sound below the synth. Then I record the bass and when I listen to both sounds, one of the sounds is off compared to the other one. The times are different if u know what I mean?
@@IAMLXGEND yes the rhythms exactly, I use the keyboard on my Mac as I currently only have bought a Scarlett solo and a audio Technica mic, could it be like a man made error that I'm only bad at staying in rhythm with multiple sounds like the bass and synth? I don't know how to explain it really

hey quick question! love your vids and was wondering why all my tracks get the same effects? for example, I have my beat at the top like you’re showing in your tracks, but if I were to add a vocal effect or waves auto tune on a vocal track, separate from the beat, it effects the beat also. it’s been driving me crazy! hope that makes sense lol
Because you're likely adding your plugins onto the master track. Not the individual tracks.
IAMLXGEND Ahh okay so at the bottom from smart controls you have to make sure you’re hovered over track and not master, right?
@@danielescalona8196 did you ever find an answer to this it always edits the beat
Not hovered. You have to have the track selected that you want to add it to. Physically click the track first. Then go to the plug-in window.
@@IAMLXGEND yeah just realised from watching your video damn bro feel like I've just unlocked a superpower thanks
Hey LegendI am so hoping you can help me with a vocal
volume problem I am having. I use garageband and a pretty inexpensive Behringer
B1 condenser mic. The problem is that when I have finished making the music
(rock music let`s say) and then record the vocals, even when I put them on max
volume they are not loud enough. I
record them with the maximum levels possible (not goin into the red).
I usually crank the guitars and drums and bass
up pretty high (in volume). It`s rock music I want it loud! Am I putting the instruments too loud and
drowning out the vocals? Is it the mic that is not good? I do sometimes double
the vocals and it helps but should I have to do that? Any help as to why my vocals are not loud
enough would be so much appreciated. I love your channell and videos so much.
Always well explained.
And is there a better mic, in the 300$ range
that would help? And when making a rock song (olr any song)should the drums
be on max volume ?
Hey sooooooo many thanks. Much appreciated.
What preamp/interface are you using?
A small and simple Steinberg U12. Thanks. Someone told me that I should not have the drums cranked up to the maximum level. That is what drowns the vocals out. Make sense? I was told to keep them about -5.0 db.
Larry's tunes yes you should have nothing cranked to the absolute maximum in reality. That’s a recipe for disaster. But I do also know some preamps are quieter than others that’s why I asked for that as well.
@@IAMLXGEND Thanks so much.
This is very helpful. Thanks! :)
Hope this answered some of your questions. You were the first person to come to mind when i made this video.
Dope 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
Thank you 🙏🏾
How can I turn files into wav on GarageBand?
You can’t. You have to do it off of Garageband. Unless you’re trying to export a song in which case, just export it as wav.
IAMLXGEND alright thanks
Does anyone know how to comp vocals in GarageBand? I’m looking for tutorials on it and can’t find any? Like how would I record a bunch of different takes and choose the best ones? (I think it’s called comping vocals) thank you :)
Just record multiple vocals on separate tracks.
@@IAMLXGEND thanks a lot for your response...!!
I got a mac pro, how do I ransfer a beat from youtube onto garageband?
download with a youtube video downloader. Drag and drop.
@@IAMLXGEND also i cant hear the track when it click record on headphones?
can you make a video tutorial on how to use your template? like where to put your vocals on which track? I seem to get lost on where to put what bc they're all named the same...

I’m holding my ears for the rest of this video
Hahahahah I knew someone would comment on that part
What does it mean if garage band is crashing ? I just bought my Mac and it seems that garage band would crash in just a few minutes of been on it.
It means you need a better computer. What specs do you have and how old is your Mac.
And what version of Garageband and what version of macOS are you on
I have the scarlet 2i2 and it's really good for a deasent price but I froget the price lol
$150-ish
What is the name of the mouse you use?
It’s an Apple Magic Mouse
So when i import a beat into garageband it goes 2x as fast and i dont know how to change it to where the beat sounds normal
are you importing it into its own track
@@IAMLXGEND honestly idek im barely geting into garageband. What im doing is i donwload the beat as a mp3 and i open garage band to a microphone preset and i drag the beat from the downloads into the app and when i press play it just goes super fast
Whats wrong when the line stays in one position
My new ringtone 6:03
Somebody make it. LOL. I will sell it on my site. Sounding like Chubacka
IAMLXGEND 😂 Thank you
is the preset basically the basics set up?
What do you mean
IAMLXGEND like are the vocal pitches and set up I absolutely have no idea what I’m doing
I can’t even find the autonomies feature or anything 😭😭😭😭
You don’t set up pitches. That comes from your own singing. If you mean patches, then it has those but it’s set to how I do my vocals. Won’t be the same for everyone. You can use the ones I have set but may want to try others specifies for female vocals.
IAMLXGEND ohhh okay Thankyou and how do you slow down tracks like I took one from UA-cam and it’s just way too fast
bro there is noise in ur video and that is exactly what im trying to avoid , how to make the voice clear ?
The noise is from a faulty connection. Just have a good connection. Lol.
@@IAMLXGEND nooo it didn't bother me to hear the noise in your video , but when (I'm) trying to sing on garage band , it still like something noisy in the background which is not acceptable at all
I paid for the template. Where do I find it after its download it to garage band?
You don’t download it to Garageband. It’s a project file you open.
Thanks for your help! You deserve every good thing coming your way!
Thanks man
I can’t get sound to come out I have a m audio interface and a ride mic please help
Make sure you select the interface in the input and output midi preferences.
Does your MacBook run warm or hot when using GarageBand?
If I’m using a lot of tracks with many plugins, yes.
Okay thank you wasn't sure this is my very first Macbook..and just getting familiar with GarageBand...notice the gets pretty hot...
Yup. That’s a MacBook for ya. The new ones are a little better.
Wish laptop is good for garageband please tell me wish is good
Any Mac after 2013.
how do I get rid of that random noise every time I click play on garage band when there's nothing on the track
No idea what the random noise is. Can't tell you how to fix it without hearing it.
@@IAMLXGEND no worries I figured it out it was just the triangle thing thanks for the reply tho
Yoo man
How do you duplicate the track?
Command D on the track you want duplicated.
@@IAMLXGEND THANK U and I’m using GarageBand to record any tips on how to make my vocals sound professional
Unable to record more than 3 vocal track simultaneously. Please help.
Do it one at a time.
@@IAMLXGEND Should I duplicate the track with different settings (right/left) after recording?
No.
@@IAMLXGEND Thanks a lot for the explanation.
do you have a decent waves cracc I could use lol
No. Buy it.
My vocals only come out of my left monitor.
When you record your vocals, the sound waves are in the dead center..need some help :(
Did you pan the vocal track you’re recording on? Or is the actual audio file showing up as only coming out of one side?
IAMLXGEND I panned it but it still only coming out of the left side only
That’s why... lol.
Leave it in the center.
watch this, I explain it all: ua-cam.com/video/fcjYMqv3g48/v-deo.html
What if i have beat separately can i upload it here and record voice together, please tell me how, really need it?
Just drag the beat in.
@@IAMLXGEND Do you have a video I can watch how to do that, I always get Inspirations but dont know how to record , want to start recording, I Have laptop and iPhone and already ordered microphones, I have watch many of video which inspired me, please show me how to attach beat in garageband thank you
The extra plugins don’t pop up for me
An alternative way is to view the bottom left of the screen in the editor window while selected on the track. Scroll down and you’ll see a plugin window there in list form.
Thank you sir
🙏🏾🙏🏾
hahaha "why is my hand frozen"
One thing that is very unclear for me is the tact between multiple tracks. I can't record multiple tracks in tact, don't really understand how to make it sound accurate. I am new to this sorry if it's something obvious!
I’m not entirely sure what you mean by you can’t record multiple tracks in tact.
Poor explanation by me, my bad. For example, I put in a synth with a melody I like, then I want to put in some bass in a new sound below the synth. Then I record the bass and when I listen to both sounds, one of the sounds is off compared to the other one. The times are different if u know what I mean?
The times? Like the rhythms don’t line up? What do you mean? One is later than the other?
@@IAMLXGEND yes the rhythms exactly, I use the keyboard on my Mac as I currently only have bought a Scarlett solo and a audio Technica mic, could it be like a man made error that I'm only bad at staying in rhythm with multiple sounds like the bass and synth? I don't know how to explain it really
It could be human error or could be latency issues. Easy way to fix this: just slide the audio over until it’s on beat after you record.
Watching this because I undid my whole song and can’t ever get that sound back
What sound?
you look same like a nepali famous hiphop artist uniq poet 100% sure you guys can check him too his name is uniq poet
