Hey looks good. This is my 2nd year making black walnut syrup and I have already gotten over 20 gallons of sap this year. My question is how do I get it to be thicker in consistency? It seems too thin unless I leave some of the pectin to go in the bottle.
That’s a great question, even after it hits 219 degrees it’s definitely thinner than most syrup. 🤔 I just use it slightly watery. Let me know if you’re able to thicken it.
What does it taste like? I love the dark maple syrup buy i usually buy mine from Costco. Any recommendations of a brand that may taste similar to yours?
With the black walnut syrup mixed in there, it sorta has a butterscotch flavor. If you mix 1/3 black walnut syrup with 2/3 maple syrup, that’s probably close to how mine tastes
@@E_Fleming I bought this tap and I thought I installed it properly but I seem to be getting something wrong. I'd like to write you an email, send you photos or a video so that you can maybe help me. Anyway, I don't want to be a nuisance. Time is precious and I don't want to waste yours.
curious where you got your spiles. i did my maple first time this year. got about a pint. but i was stoked. just found i have around 10 more red maples in the bog in the back for next year too.
Of course, they aren’t available now, but this is what I purchased about a month ago. I just cut about a foot off of the tubing that came w each spile. www.amazon.com/Tapping-Plastic-Sugaring-Supplies-Collecting/dp/B09NKHPDZ6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1LSW054MPHT5S&keywords=12+pieces+maple+syrup&qid=1644338894&sprefix=12+pieces+maple+syrup%2Caps%2C60&sr=8-3
Thanks Eric! The syrups look good like honey.
Thank you for watching! Yeah, for sure!
Outstanding video of an incredibly time intensive process. Your outcome will be used to make maple salmon this week.
