Right bro same here, got 3 gg titles with TERRIBLE SLIPPING and overall mechanics. Didn’t realize how athletic i was until i started watching his videos. Mane I was just an athlete with decent power. 😂😂💯💯
This is the first time I watch your video. I just started boxing and I have a coach once a week. I am totally going to watch all of your videos to make me a better boxer. I loved the explanation and details given in your video. I thank people like you who are able to not only teach but show respect for the sport. In addition, I have noticed that you have replied to many comments posted on your videos and to me that shows respect for your followers and that you care about them. Keep it up!
Hi, I´m from Mexico, I´m a begginer in this sport, I used to practiced taekwondo and there´s a big diference between boxing. Your videos are very helpful because I can practice in my home, not only in the gym, thanks for your support.
I started boxing at the beginning of June (this year, 2011) and I have a coach, but after my session at the gym I always like to come home and watch your videos about what I covered in my session. I find your videos extremely helpful and I really improved because of them! Thanks for that. :)
Love this stuff! Too many coaches concentrate on blocking or parrying with the gloves, even counting on the glove size to protect their heads during slips or ducks, but that strategy goes to hell in an MMA fight. Glad to see some advice I can actually use :) Keep up the good work, coach
I always think to myself: sit, don't lean. Slipping as in transferring the weight is more of a sitting motion than a leaning over motion. This is a great video!
@OMGitsHYUN Hey. It sounds like you might be rotating your hips without allowing the back leg to bend enough. Focus on that back leg to ensure that your head is taken to the right slightly. Hope this helps!
Specifically speaking for the outside slip, I've never seen such technique until I saw it at you. It seems different, feels different. But I will master this technique since it allows the defender to counter punch more efficiently as it remains waist lean. thanks for all the informative stuff you do.
I grew up learning martial art from my late grandpa he encouraged me to join different seminars and training to develop my fighting for defense.. But when I started watching boxing videos, especially the fight of Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire few years ago ( 2018 ) I literally love boxing by progress. Way back, I fought in street like The late Bruce Lee, but now I can 40% punch and slip like a true boxer.. hehehe as of now, I enjoyed watching tutorials from Sir Fran Sands and Precision striking . They have the best boxing guidance for a begginer like me.. I'm 25years old now :)
@MrDJKushman It varies. If you are a competing boxer then you should run in cycles. Early in your training program, longer, slower runs. As you move through your training program and closer to optimal fight fitness, shorter, faster runs with lots of sprint work are the order of the day. Hope this helps
@Homeruler99 Good to hear from you again. I suppose the question is more about the alternative that you have been shown. When performed at competition speed, this slip is very fast, and there really isn't that much movement. This method also allows you to provide punching threat throughout. Minimizing movement is always good, so if you feel that your coach has shown you a method that is more effective when all of the benefits and risks are considered, then go with that. Thanks mate.
@AngelofHat Thanks for the comment. I can't really comment on whether a 'sweep' would be the end of a fight (I assume this is a kick boxing move and I'm a boxing coach.) On the other 'constant movement' point, I think that the slip along with ducking and 'rolling' all put together would constitute 'constant movement'. I'm demonstrating here a single skill element of 'slipping'. Putting all of this stuff together is the art form! Thanks very much for the comment and check out the site!
This is a very good video! those slips are very effective when used appropiately. I have noticed that most fighters last throughout their career and beyond by following the proper techniques..Those who "sho-boat" so to speak, end up feeling the after affects!
This is a great video, helped me alot! Are there any other videos where you are showing like basic punch combinations and other pure basic moves from boxing?
I love your videos. Even though I only did 2 years of tae kwon do and its alot different from boxing your tips are very helpful and interesting to know.
@zinowor Balance actually felt OK. If adding small steps works for you and you feel able to throw shots while you're doing it, then it's all good. Thanks
@slugfestdude Either really, you'll be able to counter just as effectively to the left or right, and ultimately making him miss is about making him pay. If I had to choose, it would be left as you can then counter the opening in the guard with a left hook. Hope this helps.
@myboxingcoach Very good point. So if I improve my technique, and focus mainly on that, then I will improve my ability to land my punchs and get out of the way of the incoming strikes with time. Great advice. Thanks once again.
@Homeruler99 Hey mate. Think about where your weight has been distributed when slipping outside; the back leg. this means that you have extra leverage for your (orthodox) right hand. Try combining the slip with the right cross or the long range right hook (starting the shot at the point in the slip where you are across to your right.) ;-) It's all good!
Hey Wishbone. Thanks for the comment. I;m sure you've made the right choice to stay in shape . Certainly hope that the videos give you a technical focus to help maintain the interest. Thanks pal.
once again i was a lazy boxer. i feel the leverage.i jus cant wait to get it to the point i can be loose with it like muhammid ali..can you make a vid helping me become more of a speed and elusive fighter like ali
Great video i learned something from it !! but i have a question: when someone throws a jab or a cross at me(even hooks) i tend not only to move my body but i actually make a little step, is it a bad habit? because i get a lot more stable that way. its not a big step, when i slip to the left it tend to be a 15cm step with my left foot to the left. and when its with my right foot it tend to be a 15cm step to the right.
@robny91 Hi Rob. Really great that the vids help mate, and I hope that you've enjoyed the mobility drill vids on the site. keep working hard champ and you'll only get better. ;-)
@myboxingcoach i must thank you very much i also subscribed to your site thnx for the tips i can already feel the work out of my knees when i was doing it. it also helped my bullying problem at school :) 2 bad your in Europe i would love to be your student
So many guys slip while dropping the hand!! A lot of pros. I'm sure they have that attitude where they assume a punch won't land at that moment. Head movement has to be the toughest skill to master. Would you try to master inside and outside slips before rolling?
+William Stage Good points William. Yes I would seek to master slipping first for 2 reasons 1) they are less complex and 2) the slip is actually the 1st part of the roll, so once you master it you've half-mastered the roll...if that makes sense?
I know this is an old video but just seeing this now, what would you recommend if someone was throwing punches very fast in high volume? Some people tell me it would be impossible to slip them all and you would have to rely on some slipping and some blocking. I want your opinion, should/can you slip all of those? If you do, would you lose the same technique you show in the video? It would be hard to move your legs that fast if someone was throwing lots, and fast.
Nice this helped me a lot. I have a question about the outside slip. It looks like you are moving a little bit backwards when slipping to the outside, but i thought one should always try to close the distance to the opponent when slipping. Could you elaborate on that :) ?
I have got hit badly in sparring today, and my plan is to master this slipping technique as it looks very good defence and you can even use it to prepare for a good attack. I am really angry as I got punched really badly but I was so slow to slip it, I think reputation is going to make me faster in this??? I will train every day early morning slipping until I am happy about it.
@ImCalumHD Landing your shots and getting out of the way is more about good technique than agility as such. So, relax and get your technique right. If you want some stuff on improving hand speed, there's an article on the MyBoxingCoach site, search on "Improving punch speed". Hope this helps.
tyson's camp decided those slips were not the proper way to move so they introduced the slip bag which he used for very different way of slipping shots. he used that tehnique of slipping to a great sucess
Is there some kind of general rule about slipping inside when your opponent throws a straight and slipping outside when it is a jab? Or, if there isn't, then how do you know which way it is best to go (other than avoiding the shot, obviously)?
To be honest, when I watch a boxing match, I rarely see boxers slipping punches. It's like they were never taught how to do it. Most will just put up their gloves and absorb the punch, if they're lucky. I wonder, "What the hell, weren't they taught how to slip a punch or what?" What do you have to say about this? I actually love your coaching.
I taught my nephew this Tyson slipping from day one they just get better every day you just start off slow than you speed it up as he advances. He won Ringside world title, Desert Show Down, National PAL Jr Olympic National Champion and was About to win the National Golden Gloves when he dislocated his shoulder. Hector Luna can be seen on UA-cam. He would have beat Raushee Warren and Joesph Diaz had he not had the injury in 2009 all these titles were accomplish with 48 Amateur bouts
It is very good instruction and explaination.... but actually I'm looking for slipping instructions for KARATE, of course full contact (Kyokushin). So, the punches goes to the CHEST, STOMACH, or KIDNEY not to the HEAD, can you cover that, too?
okay i have a question please find the time to reply i need to know when the pro boxers like mayweather run 8 miles how long do they run for when they are covering the 8 miles a hour?
Been Boxing for 10+ years and you managed to point out two fatal flaws I have been committing in a 4 min video. Thanks for the video!
+Brian Leonard Glad it helped Brian, thanks for the feedback
I know its years old but what specific things did you work out with this video?
@@rpgtalkout8793 pivoting at the feet and bending the knees
Right bro same here, got 3 gg titles with TERRIBLE SLIPPING and overall mechanics. Didn’t realize how athletic i was until i started watching his videos. Mane I was just an athlete with decent power. 😂😂💯💯
Wow this was the best slipping tutorial you really went in depth with it
+Imperial Drift Glad it helped, thanks for the comment

Thanks Fran. This is a very informative video and I have found it to be very useful. No more bending from the waist for me!
Geoff Nickles Good stuff Geoff, cheers

You still boxing?
Great stuff, this is something missed out by too many martial artists
Excellent breakdown. I really appreciated how you showed the technique from different angles, which makes it much easier to learn from
Good slip technique. Best one I've seen so far.
Amazing video ! I just watched it ten years later it was posted, but I learned so much !
your way of teaching is the best in the world. I can set my stance very well. Thanks~~
Wow, thank you very much. glad the videos help.

Keep up the good work, coach
I always think to myself: sit, don't lean. Slipping as in transferring the weight is more of a sitting motion than a leaning over motion. This is a great video!
You've hit the nail on the head there. Provides piles of leverage for a nice hook
@OMGitsHYUN Hey. It sounds like you might be rotating your hips without allowing the back leg to bend enough. Focus on that back leg to ensure that your head is taken to the right slightly.
Hope this helps!
I would like to thank coach on a outstanding demo on the techniques of boxing I look forward to any new videos.

But I will master this technique since it allows the defender to counter punch more efficiently as it remains waist lean. thanks for all the informative stuff you do.
@MrDertertex Great that you find the videos helpful my Mexican friend. I wish you only good things in your road to become a boxer.

Learning a lot from your videos, thanks! Cheers from Greenland.
Nice technique I often forget to teach. Thanks, and I've already subscribed to myboxingcoach.
Joe
nicely done -- clear, simple, logical, coherent, and practical.
Nice form, technique and movement, learned a lot from the video.
Thank You.
You're welcome. Thanks for the comment
Great video series! Slip rotation makes a lot more sense to me now. Thanks for putting these up.
@MrDJKushman It varies. If you are a competing boxer then you should run in cycles. Early in your training program, longer, slower runs. As you move through your training program and closer to optimal fight fitness, shorter, faster runs with lots of sprint work are the order of the day. Hope this helps
You're welcome Omar. Thanks for the comment.
Thank for taking the time to illustrate the anatomy of a slip. I been doing it wrong, I left me vulnerable and unbalanced.
TimbapaEllegua Glad it helps, and it's a wonderful move when got right.
Another great video, nice explanation. I was leaning out the way and not using my legs. Thanks!
@Homeruler99 Good to hear from you again. I suppose the question is more about the alternative that you have been shown. Minimizing movement is always good, so if you feel that your coach has shown you a method that is more effective when all of the benefits and risks are considered, then go with that. Thanks mate.
nice vid mate, very well explained, even demonstrating it in the mirror made me feel more confident in slipping and it made my balance better, cheers
Thanks, glad you like it.

boxed sense 1983, didn't know that pivot's with the hips.....
that's way smoother and faster.....
another awesome tip from you guys !!!
This is a very good video! those slips are very effective when used appropiately. I have noticed that most fighters last throughout their career and beyond by following the proper techniques..Those who "sho-boat" so to speak, end up feeling the after affects!
Yea your tips are really good for beginners like me. Really enjoy watching your vids coach.
Thanks very much. Glad you like it.
This is a great video, helped me alot! Are there any other videos where you are showing like basic punch combinations and other pure basic moves from boxing?
@runhorun You're right, more often than not less is indeed more! Glad you enjoyed ;)
Thank you for that, I am going to use it on my next training session. :)
Edithx You're most welcome, glad it helps.
Very well put. Thanks
Great instructions, man !!! Thanks for explaining in so much detail.
first time i watched your video. great positioning and technique
I love your videos. Even though I only did 2 years of tae kwon do and its alot different from boxing your tips are very helpful and interesting to know.
técnica perfecta amigo!!!
+leandro ariel celaya Gracias!!!
thanks for the video, I will put these to good practice in my next sparring session
@golfcoachhc no problem, glad you found it helpful.
great techniques man
+Rizwan Khan Thanks Rizwan
@zinowor Balance actually felt OK. If adding small steps works for you and you feel able to throw shots while you're doing it, then it's all good. Thanks
where do you train u seem like a feally good coach great demonstration
Don't wait for the punch to slip it, keep slipping, ducking and rolling and the punches will land less! Keep practising and thanks for the comment.
Coach, can you make a video showing how to take punches to the head ? How to roll with the punch when it targets the head ?
Thank you. I hope that now it's 2 weeks later that you've managed to put it to good use. We can all do with getting hit less. :o)
@slugfestdude Either really, you'll be able to counter just as effectively to the left or right, and ultimately making him miss is about making him pay. If I had to choose, it would be left as you can then counter the opening in the guard with a left hook. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot this video made me better at slipping and being able to counter with some good shots !!
What accent is that, Midlands? Great video.
+Captain Sunday That's a Liverpool accent Cap'n :-)
Great, good luck with it. repetition always works.
@eliechallita Excellent. Good that you are looking to adapt stuff.
You're welcome, thank you.
Great video man, thanks
+smzaccaria You're welcome
Cool, thanks
I haven't had any lessons but I was waist moving
+Mr Locorio Yep...give the legs a go
once again i was a lazy boxer. i feel the leverage.i jus cant wait to get it to the point i can be loose with it like muhammid ali..can you make a vid helping me become more of a speed and elusive fighter like ali
thanks for the tips of economical movement. This proves that less is more.
@newzealandsurvival Thanks for the comment mate
Nice technique, except I think you should add small steps to your slips to maintain balance.
Thanks for your time. I train alone and believe me, before I saw this vid I didn't know how wrong I was doing the punches.
great vid... really exited to try it at boxing practice at monday :P
Great video i learned something from it !!

This video really helped thank you
Really need to work on my slipping this helped!
@robny91 Hi Rob. Really great that the vids help mate, and I hope that you've enjoyed the mobility drill vids on the site. keep working hard champ and you'll only get better. ;-)
Very good lesson
@myboxingcoach i must thank you very much i also subscribed to your site thnx for the tips i can already feel the work out of my knees when i was doing it. it also helped my bullying problem at school :) 2 bad your in Europe i would love to be your student
In what instances should I prefer the slipping technique over the other defences?
You were demonstrating slipping while staying in one place. I'd like to see a demonstration of this while moving around with a real opponent.
Prepare yourself. Always good to be prepared.
@ImCalumHD Thank you, nice comment

I would be inclined to push away (and then back to attack) from those type of shots Ronny. Hand blocks and parries also.
@dask8life Thanks mate. Thankfully the positive comments far outweigh the negative. Really grateful for your support!
good tips,,, non lazy tips,,,good old school ways
great video very clear
